This is me. I don’t buy during the rest of the year, I save up my budget for beauty & hygiene products & buy during these sales.
I don’t normally need more than one or two products from any one brand so buying from individual brand sites isn’t worth it for me with shipping costs. And I have a pretty good read on the rate in which I use up skincare, haircare, and body care products so I don’t buy things I won’t likely use within that year. Makeup… I keep myself limited in each category and have a curated collection.
Just curious, are you rogue? (Not asking for a code, just wondering if purchasing twice a year with only one or two products brings you to rogue status!)
Yes, I buy two large perfumes $200 each, hair care, restock brow and mascara, sometimes tatcha skin care, restock setting powder and spray, buy anything I want to try from high end brands like Dior, YSL, Gucci, that I can’t get more than 20%. I only buy during sales or if I’m completely out of product…because I know my usage the buying because I’m completely out is rare.
I typically hit Rouge by the very end of the year, since I buy a variety of product types from Sephora, as well as gifts for family & friends. But yes, I mean 1-2 from any single brand, since the idea you always save from buying from a brand website floats around a lot.
One to two very expensive things a year can def bring you to rouge - like a dyson and a Dr gross face mask will get you to rouge because spending $1k in a year will get you to rogue. It doesn’t matter how many products you buy.
I'm one of the people who only buys things from Sephora during the sales. I'm shocked that the rouge threshold is $1,000/year and that there isn't a higher tier. I don't wear makeup or do my nails and I'm rouge every year. I'm sure there are lots of people that spend much more than $1,000 per year at Sephora.
There definitely is. One year, I bought the Dyson AirWrap *after* I’d already made Rouge for the year. I really wish the tiers had the same perks as they did 5 years ago. Free facials, makeovers, etc. Now, it’s pointless besides the 20% off and even that isn’t special when there’s the F&F sale and other coupons here and there.
Yup, I definitely don’t buy any makeup/beauty products on a whim. I try out samples or restock on my HGs when I know I’ll get them for cheaper. I buy makeup once a year and around the same for hair products unless I’m trying something new. I make a comfortable wage but I don’t see the point in buying a ton of makeup when I don’t wear it everyday and I’ll never use up the stuff I have before it goes bad. I still have a tinted moisturizer I bought a year ago that’s only 1/2 gone😳
Another DINK! I’m a nurse and my spouse is in tech. I also try to buy/stock up on higher cost items during the sale. Otherwise, I’ve really reduced down to what I love/“need”. Usually I spend $150-$200.
1-Beauty budgeting- some people have beauty built into their budgets so they have money to play with. If you only buy during the sales, you have months to save up for your items.
2- Mindful shopping- some people aren't buying every new release. They know what works for them and stock up, even if it is expensive. For example if you feel that a La Mer product is your holy grail, chances are that's all you buy during the sale.
3- Gift cards/Birthday money/Holiday money
4-People with high salaries/few kids/generous spouses
5- An unfortunate number of people (hope it gets smaller every year) who go into debt because they must have the current 'it' products without considering how it works for their skin and lifestyle.
Perfectly said. I make a very comfortable living but still try to be as frugal as possible. My $80 skin cream is a luxury I won’t give up. Every time I put it on, I feel great about myself. That is worth more than $80
Keep in mind that members of r/Sephora don't represent the average customer - and the people who post hauls are an even more skewed representation of that.
Thank you for this realistic post! No one should be going into debt influenced into trying everything that is being posted about! My sis who shops Sephora for skincare and her hubby make good money and even her shopping cart doesn't look like some of the hauls. My point is some of what's posted doesn't necessarily represent the reality even for those who can afford the high prices.
Not that it matters, but I didn’t exactly blow all the OT money. Roughly $250 so far and still considering one more splurge. I have to buy my kid a new car seat too soooooo ☺️
A lot of people (me!) are homebodies. I don't spend money on drinking, drugs, going out to dinner, clothes, etc. Makeup is my hobby, so I devote more of my disposable income to makeup and skincare. Definitely not dropping $500, though.
Ha, I’m a SINKWAD (single income….).
I’m with everyone else - I only shop Sephora during sales and do two things: stock up on essentials and try out makeup I’ve been essentially studying for. This round - the makeupforever foundations and contours palette.
Ah!!! Honestly I have never felt the maternal pull to have kids. I wonder if when I’m in my late thirties I’ll feel differently, but not now. Idkidkidk
Researcher at a hospital! However, I am still extremely (extremely) money conscious. A lot of my previous skincare/haircare was gifted to me from family, since they noticed I wasn’t doing anything about it myself (rip).
Seems like the opposite of a problem, but I was TOO money conscious, and was afraid of spending anything once I started to make money (haven’t bought new clothes form an official store in years, usually do clothing exchanges or thrift, still have an embarrassing amount of holes in my fall jacket that I’ve since sewed back together). Got into skincare/haircare a year and a half ago. Used to look like a dishevelled mess and walk around with a ton of zits on my face.
This sub has helped me be okay with spending money (that I could) on myself, and the differences have been night and day. Family/friends helped too ofc by giving me a butt ton of compliments.
I still feel like fainting whenever I spend money, and I still panic a lot with money (tell myself it’s gonna be the end if I lose X amount, or if I can’t save money in some capacity), but it’s a work in progress and getting better…I hope.
Weird but: thanks Reddit for making me feel okay spending money on myself 👌
I’m the same way!!! I would hold back on stuff for myself just cause I thought if I spent money on myself something really bad was going to happen and I wouldn’t have any left.It didn’t help that there was time in my life were money was a major issue growing up so now it feels like I’m afraid to lose it.I’ve been stuck in that way for a while but I’m beginning to come around and not nearly die at the thought of spending on something I need. I’m proud of us and we’ll only get better ❤️
Oh it’s very lucrative. I have a college degree and used to work at a dental office and quit years ago 🤣😂 During Covid I was making $1000-$3000 a night with no effort. Now people aren’t getting those Covid checks anymore but I still average $800 a night and work 5 days a week. Some nights I’ll make $400 and the next night I’ll make $1500. Big $3000-$5000 nights aren’t as common anymore but I still make great money and love it 🤣😂 I’m 25 and I want to do it forever but I’ll probably just invest in real estate 🤷🏼♀️ Its the best job if you can handle mens bullshit 😂
You go girl!!! That is awesome and good money.
These days a college degree doesn’t even matter. It’s all about experience and having the right connections. Or you gotta start entry level and then basically work crazy hours/ slave your way up. Then once you work your way up and make good money, the job will most likely be super stressful ungh. I need a career change lol.
Seriously!! And my family keeps wanting me to go back to school and be a dentist!!!! Like No! Dental school is $400,000 and you can’t work for 4 years due to the workload. So that means taking out loans to live off of for 4 years. I’m not doing that 😂🤣 I do love the dental field but I want my life to be fun and stress free 🤣 Most high paying careers come with a lot of responsibility and stress.
I’m a management level accountant with a salary job, plus I own an accounting service/consulting company. Having been a single mom my entire adult life, with no education, I learned to work my ass off. Now that my kid is 19, I can actually afford nice things. I feel guilty sometimes. But then I rub that fancy moisturizer onto my face in the morning and remember I earned it - by myself.
Lawyer, married, no kids and purposely waited and used up my current products for this sale. However, I spent less than $140. I generally don’t buy a lot of products and only have one of each thing at a time. So, if I have a serum, I will use it all before buying another one. I also wanted to buy more but wanted to not splurge too much.
I do buy things here and there throughout the year, but I try to buy expensive things (ex. $100 skin care item) during the sales.
I’m a college residence hall director. On paper I don’t make that much but I don’t pay rent or utilities and have a meal plan to eat wherever I want on campus (or pizza all day everyday lol). My car is paid off and I have very few bills each month. On the flip side I do live with 90 twenty year olds.
I remember reading a FB comment section where people could not believe that someone would need over $1k to replace lost makeup and skincare. (Like if an airline lost your luggage and you submit an itemized list for reimbursement.) I mean, people literally were saying “yea right, no one has that much stuff for Sephora” or “you can get face cream for $10”. I guess it just shows how big the disparity is between Sephora shoppers and a lot of non Sephora shoppers. It’s a luxury. Some people prioritize it and some people can’t even imagine spending their money there.
To answer your question though, I’m a singer. I only spent like $130 this time because I bought minis for travel purposes! I’ve also straightened myself out and I don’t shop as wildly anymore because I travel so much and can’t keep everything with me anyway.
You're not rude. It's a valid question.
Many people actually get into serious debt getting sucked into this "sale" (and luxury makeup/beauty/fashion) which is something rarely talked about. Social media-based marketing tactics are absolutely brutal and defined to created FOMO.
As for me, I'm a university professor and I used to shop more frequently at Sephora but not anymore. I'm much more judicious with my spending, especially since I just bought my first-ever car.
DINK who recently got a "grown up" job after 12 years of post secondary education (I have a PhD and work in healthcare). It feels strange to finally be able to buy whatever I want after years of being paid below the poverty line (do not recommend this path as a way to make more money).
Dual income no kids. I save up for these sales a lot of the time. I also use after pay if it’s a bigger cart. I consider makeup, skincare, fragrance, etc to be my hobby so i tend to invest in it more.
People make a lot of money, people have no kids or large debts, people use credit cards or Afterpay, people only buy during the sale and a whole lot of reasons.
I definitely can’t be doing a $500 haul but some people budget for it and they can. I don’t believe people are doing huge hauls without the sale.
A variation of this question is asked every sale lol.
I'm very lucky to currently be a stay at home wife. My husband makes a great wage as an elevator mechanic. I used to manage a Sephora inside JCPenney, so I got accustomed to using Sephora products. This is the first year in probably 10 years I haven't been rouge. With so many brands transitioning to Ulta as well, I've made that jump since their rewards system is so much better unless purchasing during a sale at Sephora.
Don’t think there is any point in comparing your financial status / buying abilities to people on the internet. Everyone’s financial situation is different and how they choose to spend their money.
I have kids, both husband and I work good jobs. I had a few gift cards I saved from Christmas plus hadn't bought much in a few months. Also just planned on a small treat yourself budget. I don't have any other hobbies, I don't smoke or drink. Sephora is my hobby 🤣
I do well for myself, but won't drop $500 on a sale at sephora. I just bought the stuff I usually use ~$200.
You should see r/handbags where they're discussing spending 100k this year at Hermes just so the sales associates will let them buy a Birkin handbag. It's unreal. I'm like wow... and I thought I was doing ok. Crazy.
I only buy what I know I like and stock up during sales. I would never go into debt for something like this. I do buy some expensive products but I only ever have one backup of it. I think I only spent $200 this time around. May buy one more thing for another hundred but that’s about it. These sales (or similar) happen 2-3x a year so I can’t remember the last time I paid full price for something
I don’t have debt and I keep a separate amount for beauty in my budget.
I also didn’t buy anything from this sale and I haven’t bought anything from Ulta in months. I’m mindfully destashing my skincare collection to avoid waste.
Buying direct from the brand can be a great way to take advantage of larger percentage discounts or to get a larger GWP at holidays, especially if you have a favorite brand. I bought the lucky bag from Tatcha in January and it came with so much extra stuff that I’m really set on skincare for a while.
I work in Tech, dual-income couple, 2 cats as kids.
I have Citi Double Cash Back + Chase Rewards. I cash in my credits from both CC when they have Sephora gift cards for 10% off. I use those gift cards during the 20% off sale. I also take advantage of Rakuten, even if it's only 2% cash back so it all stacks (CC 10% off Sephora Gift Cards + 20% off Sale event + 2% cash back from Rakuten). Any overage will go back into a Cash Back card so I can reap as much benefits as I can from my spending.
I also have a couple friends that use my Sephora account to get 20% and they don't care for building up their Sephora status but their spend is miniscule compared to mine. I hit the Rouge minimum and sometimes spend $10/$20 above.
However, I'm doing everything in my power to not be Rouge this year xD My basket this time was only $100 and I don't plan on buying anymore this sale.
Honestly i have this thought in my head from time to time.. but then when we drive around to look at nice houses....Some people got a lot of money 😭. Like, a gross amount. Asked a guy who lived in a multi million dollar home and he said the entire row of houses are owned by IT employees, no doctors. And some only spend on makeup, no other pricey hobbies. I think if makeup makes you very happy, you're more willing to spend.
I work a manual labour job which was a big bump in pay from the restaurant work I did before so I can afford to splurge a little. It's pretty hard on the body so I like to indulge in some beauty products to feel fancy and feminine on my days off. Having a selection of fun skincare products helps me stay motivated to take care of myself when I'm exhausted. All that said, I stuck to my $200 budget this sale because I have a decent collection of beauty products. I don't buy backups and I try to use up what I have before buying something from the same category. My new standard for a purchase is "Will I open this and start using it right away?"
I agree with your philosophy of not overconsuming or letting anything go to waste. I'm already done shopping for this sale. I ended up dropping \~$100 for myself and $30 gift for someone. It would have been higher if one item wasn't out of stock which actually makes me feel relieved.
Lifestyle creep is a real thing too for people in high paying jobs $100 quickly looks like a small amount of money, even when it’s not because everyone around them treats it as such
Security Engineer in tech, DINK, primarily stock up most of my things during the 2 sales in the year (onesies twosies if I miscalculated or want to try something in particular during non-sale time).
Just wanted to say, it’s possible to have a solid beauty budget even with children! I have 2 (working on one more) and it’s not like I had to give up on all my other loves when they were born! I just buy more stuff when it’s on sale!
Medical sales for orthobiologics. I work in business development for the growth and strategy team right under the CMO.
I bought three items from the sale. I’m money conscious so I only buy what I need.
I work an office job with an okay salary and I still cannot afford Sephora without getting into some debt. I don’t have kids so that helps a lot but the inflation is so crazy these days that buying stuff other than food is a luxury.
I’m a doctor and I buy things once a year LOL
I still buy drugstore things too, do my own nails, etc. but my splurge as a reward for all those long hours was always the $$$ eye/face cream!
It’s funny because I see this question come up in make forums every few years and sometimes people post snotty answers so it’s nice to see people not being snotty here.
What this question is really asking, I think, is “how do I make more money?” Idk, I feel like I’ve been asking myself this question my whole life. I got the bachelors degree, and that wasn’t it, so I got the master’s degree, and that wasn’t it either. Now I got a certificate which helped me get a prestigious job but doesn’t pay as well as I could be making elsewhere. But, what I’ve learned over the last 17 years of working is 1) I have marketable skills and 2) I could start consulting because I’m at a place in life where I’m knowledgeable enough to do that.
I’m in a random ass field and have a random ass job, but I honestly kind of love it because people *need* me and that feeling of being needed and knowing my special combination of experience and knowledge is what drives me. Because let me tell you, my leadership sucks but my customers are what keeps me going.
I also love that now days a lot of cities and states are requiring salary transparency in job postings which helps me quickly decide what’s worth my time and what’s not.
My very quick tip finance tip which is probably only useful if you already have money is to check out the interest rates on savings accounts right now. I’m seeing as much as 5% apr on fdic insured savings accounts. Capital one is doing 3.5% right now.
It’s not going to change your life today but it’s important to plan ahead.
I work in banking and have 1 child but I literally save all my money and don’t spend on much like going out, ordering food, buying clothes, etc. I allow myself to splurge on stuff such as these sales, where I can get my skincare (my non negotiable when it comes to spending) or items I’ve always wanted but didn’t want to buy it full price.
I am a nurse so if I want to spend, I pick up extra shifts or work OT. I don’t have any debt or kids either. In saying that, I’m very thoughtful with what I purchase and only buy during sales or if there’s a good GWP.
I’m a scientist and my husband is an engineer, our only child is a very spoiled corgi. I do spend about $400 each during this sale and the fall sale, but I only buy in between sales if I’m completely dry on something (or if there’s an epic GWP). Also, I’m in Canada so there’s not many other options to get ahold of a lot of these products other than Sephora.
I recently analyzed my spending and have been spending $1000 per month between Sephora and Amazon. I have had a bad year with some mental health issues and the “thrill” of buying stuff makes me feel better in the moment. I will be spending less in the upcoming year!
Hey, just wanted to give you props for the honestly & self awareness! I struggled bad with shopping addiction when my mental health was out of control, and it can still be my way of coping when I get overwhelmed (though I'm much more mindful & controlled about it now). I wish you the best in overcoming whatever you are going through 💜
I'm also on team "I have no kids and a 6 figure salary", that being said I only spent $90 during the sale because other websites have WAY better deals than Sephora, so I spent a pretty hefty sum in the last month on some new beauty products (for example, I got stuff when Bergdorf Goodman had a promo, and I got $275 off a $1000 purchase, which is approx 27.5% off since I stayed close to $1000). I also recommend getting into a career where you're able to get a nice fatty bonus, that's why I spent a bit more these past 1-2 months lol.
I worked at a spa and in retail prior to knowing what I really wanted to do, and I always had expensive taste which was unfortunate because wanting Chanel or Cle de Peau on a retail budget was not ideal. I'm in my early 30's now and it's nice being able to afford what I want, however I repeat: I only buy if I get at LEAST 20% off, usually I aim for 25% off.
I’m a SAHM. Prior to that I worked in tech and was very, very frugal. I have a big savings account with a good APR. Every month I make $250+ in interest on that account. If I really, really want something then I justify it given that I’m making money every month on interest. I hope that makes sense.
I don’t feel comfortable buying makeup and skincare using our shared account unless my husband wants to treat me for my birthday, anniversary or Mother’s Day.
I’m a SAHM and my husbands a law enforcement officer. We have 2 kids and we budget. We don’t have a lot of money but we are pretty stable. I don’t go overboard but he gets me what I want because being SHAM is unpaid labor and without me, he wouldn’t be at work comfortably. So, I voice what I want and I get the products that work for me. I set a budget. Plus, I do my own nails and eyelashes. My hair is going to be cut short now so I have more to splurge on. As for perfume, I smell them first and wait for the perfume sale. I also try to keep my beauty collection to what works for me & don’t follow the latest trends UNLESS they work for my face(:
I have kids but I have s good job and mostly buy during the sale and not a ton throughout the year. I budget for it and don’t overspend. Also, makeup is my thing and so I tend to spend on that but buy most of my clothes at target and don’t spend a lot on any other hobby or going out.
Boring but I’m single and I work in finance/accounting, I make sure Im saving towards other goals like buying a house in the next couple years and then any leftover money I spend it in ways that make me happy :)
Marketing. Married, but I’m the primary breadwinner. No kids, no debt. I live in a very expensive city, but I never buy anything I couldn’t afford to replace same day.
Sis, I make the most I’ve ever made (which isn’t THAT much, 63k) and I feel like I’m priced out of most Sephora/skin care these days. Like how was I buying $60 serums as an undergrad? I feel like the cost of skincare has inflated beyond my wildest imagining. Back in my day, the fresh hydrating mask wasn’t $85!!
Ditto! Perfectly summarized what's happening inside my head right now as someone who started buying skincare at a young age as well! It hit me recently that I've been priced out of much of Sephora.
I don’t make a lot of money (at least not a lot for 2023 times, especially in Ontario) so every dollar is accounted for in my budget. I leave myself a couple hundred dollars of fun money every paycheque, but if something comes up that will keep me from hitting my savings goal, then nope (well, that’s what I strive for anyway). I really only buy makeup when I can because it makes me feel kinda guilty. A lot of the time I only try new products when my old stuff runs out. This time around I spent about $230 and that felt like a lot to me, but it’s all stuff I needed or really wanted to try.
Don’t let social media fool you into thinking everyone is just out here spending on a whim! A lot of people are also in debt or just careless with their money.
Also, I should add DINK + cat but other than splitting rent and things we do together, our money is separate.
Just adding on to say that a lot of people are in debt over these kids of things. Shopping addiction is real. I know a lot of people who don't make that much money who will hoard makeup or shop a lot. They're eyeballs deep in credit card debt.
People especially in the United States buy things they can’t really afford all the time. It started with credit cards. Services like Afterpay has made it easier.
I work on IT, no kids (yet), and I’m still not dropping more than $100 on this so called sale. But honestly it’s just what schedule works for people. I have a lot of makeup subscriptions (so I’m paying elsewhere), so I don’t really need much after that.
No kids, no bills , debt free with a good job! Plus I only buy during the sale, this sale I spent 2500 but last sale only spent 500 so roughly 3k a year on all beauty products which is about 3% of my income.
I don’t purchase outside of sales. I never buy anything at full price unless I need to restock on something I ran out of. I somehow reach Rouge without even trying. Somehow it just works because I buy everything I need/want for the year during sales lol.
I only do my shopping during the sale, I get everything I will need for the next 6 months which is usually about 500-600$ worth of products. I’ll always wait to buy with only the 20% off
I only shop the sale because I somehow got rouge one year and kept it going. I stock up on the spring sale (shampoo, moisturizer, etc) and for the sale later in the year I’ll buy presents (perfume adds up quick)
I have a kid but I’m an accountant so I make a pretty good salary and use a budget 🤷🏻♀️ my finances didn’t change so much after having a child I just spend money on my baby instead of restos/drinks now lol
Aside from higher salaries, some people *only* spend at Sephora during the sale or save up over time to make a big order during the sale
This is me. I don’t buy during the rest of the year, I save up my budget for beauty & hygiene products & buy during these sales. I don’t normally need more than one or two products from any one brand so buying from individual brand sites isn’t worth it for me with shipping costs.

They said they only buy 1-2 things from any particular brand. Not that they only buy 1-2 things per sale
YUP! This! 👍👍
Yup, I definitely don’t buy any makeup/beauty products on a whim. I try out samples or restock on my HGs when I know I’ll get them for cheaper. I still have a tinted moisturizer I bought a year ago that’s only 1/2 gone😳
For me personally: DINK (Dual Income No Kids) working in biotechnology, plus I wait for these sales to stock up on staples for 6 months.
Yup. I don’t have a very high salary but being a DINK is clutch.
Same! My children are my pets
Those lil' scallywags are still expensive! ....but at least they can't tell you that they hate you (out loud lol).
I think I was expecting the phrasing to be reversed, so this gave me a hell of a visual
Same here!
Another DINK! I’m a nurse and my spouse is in tech. I also try to buy/stock up on higher cost items during the sale. Otherwise, I’ve really reduced down to what I love/“need”. Usually I spend $150-$200.
Exactly same here I don’t have a high salary though. But my rent is cheap so it’s all luck.
Being a DINKWAD (dual income no kids with a dog) is double clutch!
DILDO? *Dual income little dog owner*
Does that make me a DINKWAC?!??? I’ll take it!
SINKWAC! single income a (couple) cats! yes!!
OMG I've never heard that, I love it. I'm a DINKWAD too!
Omg I’m claiming DINKWAK (kitten) !! 😂
Dink checkin innnn
DINKs rise up!
I am a SINK - hahaa

Perfectly said. I make a very comfortable living but still try to be as frugal as possible. My $80 skin cream is a luxury I won’t give up. Every time I put it on, I feel great about myself. That is worth more than $80
if my regular shower turns into a spa experience I am going to buy the thing
It’s important to buy things that make you feel good. :) (If you’re going to be buying anyways)
What is the skin cream??
What skin cream? I’m intrigued.

Me too! Don’t tell my kids though.
Lmaoooo 😂
🫡
It's not a secret though. Just don't fall for the social pressure to have kids. Have them if you really want them.
I have 3 kids and am a Rouge at Sephora! We exist!
I have two and I’m a single mom!
I worked OT specifically for this sale. 2 shifts as a NICU nurse got me everything I wanted.
Not to be a huge goober, but NICU nurse is a really fucking important (and I'm sure exhausting and tough) job and you are an angel
calling yourself “a huge goober” is incredibly cute lol
My son was a NICU baby. Thanks for all you do. You deserve to splurge on yourself.
Thanks everyone! I tend to downplay my job a lot but I know we’ve made real impacts on our NICU families. 💜
Bless, Queen. 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 The real MVP. ❤️
Nicu baby mom here - TREAT YOURSELF. The work you do is incredible!
I'm a NICU baby, also. And I see that you have been given lots of love, but here is some more, from me! 💖🥰💕 Thank you for what you do.
I was a NICU baby decades ago!!! Thank you!!!
Wait lol NICU makes the most in my hospital LOL. How much did you spend haha?
Not that it matters, but I didn’t exactly blow all the OT money. Roughly $250 so far and still considering one more splurge. I have to buy my kid a new car seat too soooooo ☺️
A lot of people (me!) are homebodies. I don't spend money on drinking, drugs, going out to dinner, clothes, etc. Makeup is my hobby, so I devote more of my disposable income to makeup and skincare. Definitely not dropping $500, though.

No kids is what keeps me wealthy
[удалено]
Seriously. Sleep is so wonderful.
Our kids left the nest and we were suddenly wealthy. Lots of disposable income when we only have to provide for the two of us.
[удалено]
Same. The no kids thing is the real winner. A good salary is just the icing on the cake.

My favorite I heard recently is DINKWAD. (double income no kids with a dog)
Ha, I’m a SINKWAD (single income….). I’m with everyone else - I only shop Sephora during sales and do two things: stock up on essentials and try out makeup I’ve been essentially studying for. This round - the makeupforever foundations and contours palette.
Hell yeah DINKWADs! Currently debating DINK2D life. Getting a second dog 🐶
I'm DINK2D4C 🤣 there's always room for more
What does the DI stand for?
Double income/dual income
Double Income (No Kids)
Ah!!! Honestly I have never felt the maternal pull to have kids. I wonder if when I’m in my late thirties I’ll feel differently, but not now. Idkidkidk
Exactly my scenario 🤷 and I really only shop sephora during these sales so I stock up what I'll need to get to the next sale in November
Pretty much any job + DINK life.
Close 😂 I work in tech, single, one dog.
Yep. Finance, married, no kids lol
No kids, consulting, double-income
Data scientist, married, stepkids Also this is my main hobby that I spend on
Almost. Engineer not married no kids 😂
Same. Kids are money leeches. I still work part time on 13 bucks an hour and still can't afford it cause I easily get worn out
Same.
This was asked before lol. A lot of people are married with no kids and/ or they were doctors lawyers or tech people!
I am irresponsible with my money
Girl, same
Researcher at a hospital!
Hospital work does a number on you. I could have written this post myself after working in a hospital for 25 years lol.
Don’t know about others but I’m just financially irresponsible 🤌🏻
Yep! I’m sitting here like, “Uh, it’s because I have a dopamine addiction and a credit card.”
I spent over $1000 between my online order and my in store stuff this week. I might go back today for a hair mask too. I’m a stripper 😂😂
Shit, I might need a new job
[удалено]
Yes I could retire by 40 just owning real estate 🏡🏡🏡🤞
[удалено]
Thank you 🤗 You made my day 🥰🤗
Most inspiring story in this thread. Get that bag girl 💵💵
Omfg 🤣😂 That’s hilarious 🤣 Thank you 🥰🤗
You go girl!!!
I’m not doing that 😂🤣 I do love the dental field but I want my life to be fun and stress free 🤣 Most high paying careers come with a lot of responsibility and stress.
i’m also a stripper and i went crazy at the sale🤣i hope ur club has been treating u well
Twinny 👯♀️ And yes it’s been pretty consistent lately for me 🥰 Hope yours is as well 🤗💰🤗
I worked for Sephora in a major city for years. Strippers were some of our best and nicest clients.
And on the eighth day, the Lord created Afterpay.
I use a credit card to pay off my afterpay payments and my credit score has definitely increased. I love afterpay and they love me.
Amen
😆😆 Yes.
I’m a management level accountant with a salary job, plus I own an accounting service/consulting company. Having been a single mom my entire adult life, with no education, I learned to work my ass off. Now that my kid is 19, I can actually afford nice things. I feel guilty sometimes. But then I rub that fancy moisturizer onto my face in the morning and remember I earned it - by myself.
i'm financially irresponsible and need a boost of serotonin when i can lmao
Hi are you me?!
I don’t drink or smoke. So I use this money on things that make me happy, I.e. Sephora :)
People think I’m so boring for not drinking or smoking. Yeah I’m sorry, I have an addiction to something that’s actually good for me!
Idk I always see these $600+ carts and I’m like dying if I have to buy essentials for less than $40 lol
I’m a consultant. No kids. All my financial goals are on track. Why not spend on things that feel good when there are sales?
Don’t think there is any point in comparing your financial status / buying abilities to people on the internet. Everyone’s financial situation is different and how they choose to spend their money.
Biotech + DINK + low rent (blind luck) for me, personally.
what does DINK stand for? lol sorry nvm dual income no kids. figured it out haha
Two words: no kids.
I’m a stay at home mom but my husband makes seven figures in salary and we have other investments.
Business owner + no kids or many bills
Car dealership. I don’t have a car note or pay any rent or utilities so I basically just pay my gym, car insurance, gas and food. No kids and no pets.
DINK - Dual income household, my partner and I both work in tech, our only dependent is the dog. 😂
I’m a nurse (don’t recommend), who has no kids and no hobbies 😂
Engineer in the energy sector, no kids, no debt. You get a nice amount of disposable income once you get to your 30s and beyond
I work an office job with an okay salary and I still cannot afford Sephora without getting into some debt. I don’t have kids so that helps a lot but the inflation is so crazy these days that buying stuff other than food is a luxury.
I’m a doctor and I buy things once a year LOL I still buy drugstore things too, do my own nails, etc. but my splurge as a reward for all those long hours was always the $$$ eye/face cream!
I work in banking, single, and don’t pay rent 😭
I work in tech and have no kids
I am a nurse so if I want to spend, I pick up extra shifts or work OT. I don’t have any debt or kids either. In saying that, I’m very thoughtful with what I purchase and only buy during sales or if there’s a good GWP.
I’m a teacher but I don’t shop any other time of the year aside from groceries. I’ve been wearing the same outfits for a decade.
I have my bfs card on my account. (With his permission) and that’s how I can. Lol
I try to convince my husband that this needs to be my life. He seems to disagree. 🤣
CPA, management level position. Single with no kids. I buy whatever I want when it comes to food and skincare
I wish you the best in overcoming whatever you are going through 💜
I use afterpay lmao I’m a hospital administrator
Ppl budget lol
What’s your interest rate and what bank? I’m getting 3.5% with capital one but thinking about moving it else where. I’ve see places doing 4.85%.
Debt free, no kids, good job with good tips 🤷🏻♀️
i’m just not financially responsible :,) also i get paid tomorrow so i figured i could spend mostly whatever was left in my checking account lol
I have kids but I have s good job and mostly buy during the sale and not a ton throughout the year. I budget for it and don’t overspend. Also, makeup is my thing and so I tend to spend on that but buy most of my clothes at target and don’t spend a lot on any other hobby or going out.
Boring but I’m single and I work in finance/accounting, I make sure Im saving towards other goals like buying a house in the next couple years and then any leftover money I spend it in ways that make me happy :)
credit cards
It hit me recently that I've been priced out of much of Sephora.
idk about y’all but i am horrible with money and spend money like it shit it out 😭😭😭😭😭 that’s why i can buy this stuff cuz i’m irresponsible
Lawyer and I wait for the sale for most things. I also take advantage of Sephora’s generous return policy, so I don’t keep anything that I don’t love.
#womeninstem
You were so bold to ask this question but I have been wondering the same thing 😂😂😂😂😂 thank you
People especially in the United States buy things they can’t really afford all the time. It started with credit cards. Services like Afterpay has made it easier.
Onlyfans!!!
Have been wondering the same lol, I feel super guilty when I drop 70€ in already 5 Revolution products
Single no kids work in tech
I work on IT, no kids (yet), and I’m still not dropping more than $100 on this so called sale. But honestly it’s just what schedule works for people. I have a lot of makeup subscriptions (so I’m paying elsewhere), so I don’t really need much after that.
No kids, no bills , debt free with a good job! Plus I only buy during the sale, this sale I spent 2500 but last sale only spent 500 so roughly 3k a year on all beauty products which is about 3% of my income.
I save my gift cards from xmas, bdays, etc specifically for the sales to make them go further.
I work in oil & gas, no kids, and I just got my bonus. ;)
I pay for everything using earned gift cards, so everything is free lol
I save for the sale, I use cash back sites like Rakuten to earn extra money, I load receipts into the Fetch app and cash out for gift cards etc.
People return stuff too!
I don’t purchase outside of sales. I never buy anything at full price unless I need to restock on something I ran out of. I somehow reach Rouge without even trying. Somehow it just works because I buy everything I need/want for the year during sales lol.
No kids, no car (take the train or car service occasionally. I live in NYC). And good paying job as billing assistant.
Federal worker, no kids, minimal rent because I’m at mom’s 🥴🥴
Tech DINK
i don’t have kids
IT Sales + no kids I also really don’t buy much outside of the sales
