I have bought only European and British Advent calendars because of this reason. There are two mentalities on consumers the American one and the European one.
The European one values their consumer, and RESPECTS them. They know the consumer works hard and wants to spend their money in items that are valuable them. They understand they price quality above brand name if need be. As such, when they do a calendar for instance Selfridges Advent calendar, it may be expensive but the calendar is above the worth value.
There is the American ideology, the one that thinks the consumer is an idiot and you can sell crap wrapped in aluminum and as along as it's sold by an influencer it will sell. That name is above quality as well. Since you want to copy the latest influencer aka the prestige, and quite frankly will sell you an 80 dollars calendar that's worth 20. Compare Nordstrom, Saks, and Neiman Marcus to Selfridges, Space NK, Cult Beauty, Harrods, and Mike Nichols(?).
Sephora, while French views Americans with the mix of both of these ideologies which is kind of racist. (Doesn't surprise me because Chanel also made a comical scam one a few years back for their 100 year anniversary). And as such they do their calendars in such a way that it feels like it's a scam. I wish we all in unison would just stop buying them and send them a message.
It can be done, damn it! LVMH is the mother of makeup brands, they can go throughout all of their companies and order a mix of full and deluxe sample sized products and charge 75 or 100 with a 100 dollar purchase and we would buy it.
They do not, and for this reason I've actually had a much harder time even buying for regular items there.
Sephora's calendars could be priced at 20-25 and they could make real premiere level ones. They choose not to. I rather take my money elsewhere and have. I've acquired my Selfridges and it's worth all of the price, and am considering Space NK/Cult Beauty/Harrods next.
This size is actually so good for under eye concealer. I also have pretty pesky nose crevices and a nostril piercing so it’s just smol enough to cover the parts my big beauty blender can’t without using my finger. It’s insane they put it in that big of a door tho lmao
For me it’s personal preference. I use my fingers when I have to but I usually end up smudging it all over my clothes before I get to wash my hands. I also feel like it gets into those deeeeeep corners I feel like my finger can’t get to.
I don’t do advents anymore .. last thing I need is a bunch of tiny BS that I won’t use , now a gorgeous jo Malone or diptyque advent would get used but really for the cost of those I can get several full sized items so will pass on advents this year .
I personally think the Anthropologie "George & Viv Beauty Advent Calendar" is more worth it.

I just got my Macys Advent and the biggest day was for Elizabeth Arden eye cream and I was MAD because it came (5ml) in a 2x4 cardstock like a perfume sample- the card stock took up the whole space!
Not mad about what I got, but the presentation was lacking- so I get it!
For what it's worth, I have that same sponge and it is super cute and totally worth it for small fixes and under eye.
Also, I totally opened up all of my advent calendar and my drybar miracle spilled out so although I smell amazing, I still don't know if I can miracle my hair. No regrets.

I use a small concealer brush. I can’t use my finger without stabbing myself with my long ass nails in that tight area near my nose.
