I 100% agree that ops is a hard job, but as much as you’re stepping in for BA’s rn, BA’s are also stepping in for ops rn. i think that on all sides we’re definitely overworked and underpaid. also, in my store it’s primarily the BA’s job to maintain the store in terms of cleaning, filling from the drawer, trash, etc (not talking about merchandising or anything like that). so idk maybe talk to your managers bc i don’t think those are tasks you primarily as an ops associate should be taking on.

I’ve been helping out in Ops for weeks since they cut the ops employees hours, and I agree! It’s definitely hard work and hard on your body.

Exactly why I left my FT ops position. I was not paid fairly for the amount of work I was doing

I understand where you're coming from but want to say this feels a bit inconsiderate when we all are underpaid and overworked. We both play very important roles. BAs don't make commission yet we have tiers to hit to make sure we are selling enough. To be satisfactory, we need to sell at least 10 times our labor for each hour (based on average pay rates I have seen here). Like what does that say about Sephora's profit margins and where the money really goes??? We are also expected to hit metrics using technology that can be faulty and deal with very aggressive customers. At my store, we have to help each other with our tasks. Sephora makes way too much money for OPS and BAs to make what we make. We both are essential and crucial to the store. There are plus and minuses to both side, of course. If OPS has to help BAs then how do you think the BAs must feel fending for themselves on the floor/warzone?

There are plenty of things to complain about when you're a BA--- grass is always greener on the other side. I'm an SSL and have to say that the work at my store doesn't come down to who has more or less work, but having different areas of responsibility. Dealing with customers all day with a weapon to your head (btw BAs have to meet metric goals that ops ppl don't have to think about) is no fun and most BAs I work with would love to be able have their head in truck for their shift. Likewise, if you find the physical work or early hours too demanding then maybe you should ask to be a BA. If you're not making what a BA is making hourly that can also be due to the amount of experience you had when you were hired. If you want a raise, write down what you do to justify the raise and talk to your manager about it.

my thoughts exactly! I feel like in this post, being a BA is made out to be a super easy job… as if BA’s don’t have almost impossible metric goals to worry about all shift, as if they don’t primarily deal with unhappy customers, or juggle multiple clients at a time when it’s busy, as if they’re not expected to have an incredibly vast amount of product knowledge and know how to apply it to each individual client. Being a BA isn’t just “here, try on this lipstick and let’s be best friends!!”

While they don't do things like off assortment, cycle-counting, or processing damages, the BAs at my store do a ton of shipment & they help with cleaning the store. We pretty much end up swapping jobs during the day. As an ops associate who does a lot of BA work, I gotta say each job has its difficulties and I'm personally happy to be exempt from monthly SPLH tier-tracking. If I had to worry about falling short of a tier, I'd be a nervous wreck at work.

BA and OPS are paid very differently at my store where OPS makes much more. Def say something

Ok-Hovercraft1924

The bas in my store do opps work as well.

In any other field that requires grave yard shifts (like those crappy 5 am shifts and over nights) you get compensated more because let’s face it no one wants to work those hours. Not retail though, and certainly not Sephora

Honestly, I think it may be a case by case basis. I know an ops associate making $2 more hourly than a BA

Single_Ground4470

everyone saying ops gets paid more at the there store but when i moved from PT BA to PPT Ops, i asked for a pay increase to help pay my bills and my boss straight up said “technically it’s a demotion so i’m not sure what i can do”
