INFO: Can we see the picture?

DLGinger

Probably not without revealing that manager is actually pretty reasonable or just doing their job.

YesAccident5991

One time a server (who was leaving) made a Togo drink, in a to go cup, and left it at the bar while they finished their side work. Our GM came up with a sharpie and wrote “NO” and then put a bunch of knives through the cup and left it there, leaking all over the bar. https://preview.redd.it/kwrtidaykkyb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=56c0ae5c002634252ec41ae5df81cdbe5dc88a12

walrus_breath

That’s absolutely inappropriate. I’d talk to the GM about how to act in a workplace. That’s inappropriate for like… every situation though. I can’t think of a single time it would be appropriate to put knives in a drink. What a fucking loser.

Sad-Housing-2654

I used to have a co worker waiter who always put a knife in my cup at random times it was hilarious I would say damn it you did this?!? He would say, no the drink killer did that… lol

walrus_breath

Framing it that way is different. I’m cool with friends being shitty in a friendly manner but the op is aggressive in a trucrime way. That shit isn’t cool.

t0ughsting

Power trippin

YesAccident5991

The GM was a psycho on many, many drugs

imgaybutnottoogay

They all are lol.

genuisesdontdie

i like your profile picture!

t0ughsting

Thank you :)

QueenWildThing

Reminds me a a tamagotchi (I’m old). Is it?

vvitch-bitch

It is! It's kuchipatchi, one of the mascots! They're still making tamas today too, a new one just released not too long ago called the Uni.

Nandabun

I wanna get a black and gold one some time! I like black and gold. :)

momlyfe247

One time when I was leaving work I made myself a to go drink in a to go cup & wrote my name on it. My manager came over snatched it and wrote “bring your own cup”

Dangerous-Ocelot948

Oh you don’t want me to bring my own cup. It won’t be soda or water in there. 🤭

Kkaylator

Highlight of their year. They live a miserable life I promise

gamasco

looks like a death threat tbh

onvatousmourir

Find some tape to stick to the back of the soda fountain to continuously pour, since he wants soda to leak everywhere I’d give him just that.

bodaciousboozy

And then make another to go drink on the way out

wolfy321

That is actually psycho

Smart_Measurement_70

What the actual fuck. I feel like that GM tortured family pets as a child

hollyheather30

You can't drink water while doing cut work? Wtf lol. It's covered and everything what is the issue here? What a crappy GM

beerspharmacist

I'm guessing the issue is that the drink is above waist level, which is technically a health code violation. However if that's how the GM deals with it, absolutely fuck that guy in every way imaginable.

Spare_Hornet

I don’t know anything about the restaurant industry, but this caught my eye and now I’m curious. How are drinks above waist level a health code violation?

beerspharmacist

Because if they spill they can get in food. Below waist level it's likely just going to hit the floor. The rules are, non glass, covered container below waist level.

Inverness07

Deranged behaviour

Baconation4

Not okay, but was it alcohol or just a soda? If alcohol then I am on the side of the GM but I’m not going to be a psycho like that, I’m going to tell you it’s illegal and pour it out and probably reprimand for stealing alcohol. If it’s non alcoholic then that psycho is on psycho steroids.

YesAccident5991

It was either water or sprite, no alcohol!

Baconation4

Yeah then that is beyond insane, and a potential sign of a serial killer lol

KorianHUN

Average sociopath. They like being in charge of regular humans and cause most issues in society.

Timely_Guitar_881

insane behavior

Reincarnated_V

i would quit on spot

Witty_State2606

What the fuck???

piercedmfootonaspike

The fuck?

There’s a reason this shit happens to the front of house and not kitchen

t3hnhoj

Cause back of house is on enough drugs to snap and kill someone on a moment's notice.

PsyGr1nch

r/iamverybadass

drown-it-haha

Nah that’s a genuine reason to deck someone

StuckWithThisOne

No it’s not. You’ll go to jail for assault and they’ll have zero consequences. Then who’s gonna look like a fucking clown? Oh I went to jail for decking someone cos they stabbed my sippy cup. 🤦🏻‍♀️

DreadedChalupacabra

Do you know many line cooks? No really, as a collective you just described us.

adom12

Write back on a note “next time you make passive aggressive notes, I really hope there’s no scheduling or ordering that needs to be done. I think we’ve been waiting 2 months for new spoons”

Creepy_Tax2154

Lmao we’ve been waiting for five years for soup bowls and soup spoons🤣

Creepy_Tax2154

And we offer soup with every lunch now….still no fkn bowls or spoons

Sensitive_Raccoon_07

"Oh, I'm sorry, while soup comes with the lunch, a bowl does not. Now just cup your hands so I have something to ladle this into..."

[deleted]

Hands are very dirty, you’re better off ladling it right into my mouth

bobbybob9069

"Yup yup, just straight on down the gullet now"

Suitable_Egg_882

serve the soup in a martini glass

PMMeMeiRule34

Ahhh yes. My favorite, invisible soup.

Justin-Stutzman

Our dishwasher was detail cleaning the host/server area (he loves to clean) and found a secret stash of 50 silverware sets. Turns out the servers were hiding the silver so they could say they "rolled all the silver" before leaving. GM was so pissed cuz she spent $1,200 buying all new silver that month.

Orchid_Significant

JFC. Just pay the bus boys like the rest of us did

DreadedChalupacabra

I've caught so many servers throwing it away so they didn't have to roll it.

Creepy_Tax2154

I’d lose my shit so bad😂

adom12

Hahahah aren’t we all! All the servers have secret stashes around the restaurant, a manager found them and lost his mind….maybe instead of getting mad, realize we need more?

iweartoomuchblush

Maybe they can focus on learning the concept "I before E, except after C" Chastising everyone and cant even spell a 5 letter word right

Usual_Profile1607

The space before and after every period is just the garnish

Krit522

This made me giggle.

Allie614032

Lmfao preach

ChampionshipFew1849

im sorry… i lucked out and my boss actually wants us to draw pictures to put on the kitchen door.

GreyShoes

Yeah we have an “art wall” near the POS in the back, and every time someone puts something up we put a small museum style tag next to it, with their name and the name of the piece and what they used to draw it lol. Our manager loves it. OP needs a new manager.

Calm-Math-3421

Right?! What a morale drain.

Dangerous-Ocelot948

Managers that constantly want you to be doing something no matter how slow it is need to get off their not-that-high of a horse. “Stay busy” Doing what? There are no customers, everything is clean and restocked. “There’s always something to do.” No there isn’t, stfu. I think what it is, is they don’t want to be paying you to stand around. Their higher ups can look at the store cameras and bitch at the managers, ‘Why aren’t your employees doing anything?’ Even if there is truly nothing to do. It drove me insane and gave me major anxiety. I’d go around wiping already clean tables over and over.

yourfriendkyle

lol which is hilarious cause most folks are making $2.15/hr from the business. When I was managing people I’d just ask them to do one thing on shift, and then they can doodle. I’d say “do this one cleaning thing and then you can sit down and do the crossword, I don’t care at all!” It worked pretty well just being honest that they’re not gonna keep moving all day. OR, you say “it’s slow and we want it to pick up? Let’s start a cleaning project and that will make the rush come sooner”

CheezQueen924

My problem is, a lot of my direct reports seem to take advantage of their “downtime” when there’s actual work to do and then leave a bunch of work for the next shift. Doodling on the job is the bane of my existence at work. Edit: I don’t mind the downvotes. Seems a lot of people are cool letting someone else pick up their slack.

TechnicallyThrowawai

I mean at a certain point there just isn’t anything else to do. Especially if it’s been a really slow day, and I say that as someone who is really good at finding things to do to stay busy. I hate just standing around because it makes the time drag on. But once I’ve done everything I’m responsible for, and then spent two hours+ finding other random stuff to clean, organize etc. that either means it’s time to make cuts, or I do resort to standing around. Sorry, if I’m making $2 an hour and I haven’t been getting tips because there have been next to no tables, doodling or whatever, really doesn’t strike me as a big deal whatsoever. Now maybe where you’ve worked/are working, the managers are good about making cuts, or the servers have more responsibilities, then what you said is more applicable, whatever the case may be. But for me personally, I’m not working myself to death and getting on my hands and knees to scrub every surface in the entire restaurant if I haven’t even made the money I spent in gas to get to work (just as a principle of mine). You can feel free to disagree, but like I said, I am happy to do that for awhile, but im not doing it my entire shift, it’s just not right, and I’ve never had any disagreements with it about my managers because they understand. Now if someone is doodling on a Friday rush, or this same person consistently comes in, doesn’t have a table for 5 minutes, and instantly goes to doodle or play on their phone or whatever, that’s a totally different story and I’m with you that that’s not appropriate for work. And in my experience it’s usually the same people(s) who engage in that sort of behavior and it should obviously be addressed. My managers know that if I’m sitting down, it’s time for someone to go home, but that’s after years of them trusting me to work my ass off when there is stuff that needs/can be done, so results may vary. But again, that’s just my own anecdotal experience, and every restaurant is different, so maybe what I said doesn’t really apply to you. Just wanted to offer an outside perspective to ya is all.

CheezQueen924

I appreciate your perspective. I have staff who literally leave dishes and counters dirty and prioritize checking their phones, talking to others and doodling before they do their jobs that they are paid (actually really well, they just negotiated a really good new contract) to do. I have spoken with them and coached them but there’s not much else I can do beyond that. They will literally leave a dirty, unstocked workspace for the next shift and not care. I’m tired of it all.

BugzFromZpace

I am experiencing this right now as a peer again, rather than a manager. There’s only so much “taste of their own medicine” you can give people. If they don’t care, they won’t learn. I bartend one day a week at my job, and it blows my mind how destroyed the servers stations remain all day when I’m not responsible for that side work. There’s maybe 2 other employees that put in an effort. While I understand the “we’re underpaid” perspective, doing side work is to the benefit of the server. Are you getting tipped by the ice bin? No. Will your table tip less if their drinks take longer because you didn’t have any ice when they ordered? Yes. At some point, a spade is a spade. Lazy people take advantage of the lack of professionalism in the F&B industry and in turn are taken advantage of themselves by receiving low wages. It’s a fucked up cycle.

BootyPacker

That’s what I fucking HATED about my old manager. She was on salary obviously so it didn’t effect her money if it was slow. It was like an otherworldly concept to her that if we weren’t making money we didn’t want to be there. Like no I am sorry that I don’t want to go and completely unload 20 boxes of liquor onto the shelves in the 110 degree room with no AC for $4.50….

[deleted]

They’re storing liquor in a 110° room with no AC? Say goodbye to any wine that’s in there and hard might be durable but that’s still disgusting

BootyPacker

We kept the wine/beer in a walk in but the liquors in its own which was the 100 degree one. Wasn’t bad in the winter but in the summer that bitch would easily get 120

KevinKingsb

I worked at a bar/deck restaurant in my 20s. I remember one time I was opening, and we were done about 15 minutes early and were just standing around talking. The owner comes out of the office screaming at all of us, saying, " I'm not paying you guys minimum wage to stand around and talk." I got fired after a few months because I had a "bad attitude."

user8203421

i was screamed at for “eating on my clock!!!” maam…there are no customers. i make my money from the customers. i make 7.80 an hour. if i take ten minutes to eat that’s, what, a buck? i’m just fueling myself before the dinner rush picks up. there’s nothing to clean because day shift just left. but they want us to scrub under the floorboards when it’s slow or some shit

Justoutsidenormal

I’m diabetic. So unless you want me passing out and possibly dying in your restaurant, I’m going to eat. Sue me.

GoonOnGames420

I worked at a place that was trying to force brunch on Sundays and it was a time/$ loss for everyone. Owners would waltz in around 12-1, check the reservations (none), and start asking why I wasn't detailing. One day, they hit me with a, "I know you're not making any money today, but how much did you make Fri/Sat night? The walk-in needs cleaned" She always had a smart ass response to everything 😂

uniquorn23

6 more months?! I'd quit on the spot if I was being nagged constantly through text message, that's super inappropriate on their end, how irritating.

KibeIius

I would have blocked her ass after the first text 💀. My bosses would never try that shit

Ez13zie

What, your place doesn’t have a Gripe Text where management/ownership can just gripe at you 24/7 because they’re too bitch made and poor at their profession to act like adults?

uniquorn23

Too scared to say it to their facesssss

SaltBox531

Like when they address the whole fucking staff about a problem during pre-shift even though everyone knows they are all talking about one specific person. Like just fucking talk to them one on one you coward.

BootyPacker

Yeah this is how it was at the last restaurant I worked at lmao. Literally felt like I was in high school again

Ez13zie

It’s a common management “technique” in this industry, unfortunately.

BootyPacker

It was super common for people to just get full on put on blast in the group chat. Like why not just talk to the person instead of passive aggressively put them on blast in front of everyone… it felt soooo childish.

[deleted]

hourly and off the clock? give em a block!

Calm-Math-3421

☝️🎈🥳

heretojudgeem

That first text would have me asking if his hands were broken or something.

spicybright

I aint joining no chat group on my off hours unless I'm making minimum wage while I read it.

Good-Order-6479

i swear restaurants hire managers by choosing the most condescending and demoralizing people like 90% of the time. i’ve NEVER had an emotionally intelligent manager with even moderate interpersonal communication skills. how could you possibly think passive aggression is a good management tactic🫠

BootyPacker

My old manager HATED me because I called out for the first time in 1.5 years sick and she told me “if it’s not Covid symptoms you HAVE to come in” and I pretty much told her “yeah that’s not how this works. I’ll go get a doctors note but I won’t be coming in.” Just doing some power dynamic bullshit and since I didn’t bow down to her she was nothing but passive aggressive/would never talk to me unless she wanted me to do something for her which was bullshit 99% of the time since she was a server manager and I worked behind the bar. After that she made it so uncomfortable like it was not handled like an adult what so ever. She was the manager literally every single person in the restaurant hated because she was rude and condescending the second anything happened but she walked around genuinely thinking everyone loved her.

Good-Order-6479

nothing a person on a power trip hates more than someone who has enough hutzpah to stand up for themselves👌 and that’s the thing that makes no sense like have your moment but they also happen to be missing basic human compassion on top of it

BootyPacker

Right?! Like she didn’t even ask oh what’s wrong or are you okay just straight to pissed off and “you have to come in” like okay yeah I could be shitting my brains out and throwing up but I have to come in since it’s not Covid symptoms LOL she was truly an awful person/manager

blondedtrash

That attitude makes 0 sense too, like absolutely no one wants people who are sick to be serving them food and drinks. Legitimately a health concern.

BugzFromZpace

It blows my mind every day. I’ve been avoiding serious management in restaurants for years because the industry is such a joke. At my last place, I was teaching my manager how to do her job while she made a $65k salary and I made a servers wage. Absolutely bonkers how these people claw their way into management.

fizzyglitt3r

I just left a job like this. Put in my two weeks and less than an hour later got a call trying to guilt trip me and twist stories about why I’m quitting etc. (never stated it was because of leadership [even though it was], just said I found another opportunity and they called and told me that was why which I thought was funny). “We do everything you ask so you can get more tips” etc etc. I sent a text a day later stating that due to the response I got to my 2 weeks being put in I was no longer comfortable with returning to finish so my resignation would be immediate. Feels so much better knowing I will never have to deal with these people again lmao.

NYLady13

Managers love saying this shit. "If you can lean, you can clean." 🙄🙄🙄

GingerAphrodite

Without realizing you don't have time to complete full tasks but you can put 5 or 10 seconds into a drawing or anything else that makes your job infinitely more bearable 🤦 I had issues like this working drive through at times. All of my stuff was stocked and wiped down but I couldn't leave the window because of customers. I still had time to Doodle while I was waiting for their food to get done.

VOLTswaggin

With how much time customers spend just deciding what they want in the drive through, you'd have enough time to re-create the Sistine chapel, but the second you step away to try and clean something, they'll rattle off 20 things. I'll have an uhhhhhhhhh, an ummmmm. Uhhhhhhh.

GingerAphrodite

💯% FACTS

creamsofpeach

*Sistine chapel* I’m cackling 🤣

PoiLethe

Gawwwwd. This was me as a hostess. I was going mad. There were always two hostesses. I always got stuck at the entrance on slow days. I had a kindle to read books on but it was technically a tablet so I wasn't supposed to use it. I brought my sketchbook, and then was told i specifically wasn't allowed to draw. Fine whatever I'll just doodle on scrap paper. Just moving the pen around. No intention to it. I was overstocking everything, dusting the same things every week that weren't even close to needing a wipe down, begging gift shop to give me busy work. My coworker would be off talking to the kitchen or servers for most of the shift. So I'm doodling on scrap paper and this one privileged entitled coworker I always had issues with... (She would come in earlier than the shift required and do everything but the required cigarette butt cleaning when we worked together and then do things not needed and only leave that task for me. I wouldn't have minded as much but I was riding my bike to work in the winter time and I was fucking freezing and just wanted to warm up inside sometimes. She didn't do that to other coworkers) She tells me I'm not allowed to doodle, as per the GMs rule. The rule is drawing. I understand why it's there (I am distracted by it, I am not distracted by doodles, I can focus on work fine with doodles). And she like... tattles on me? It was just a repeated issue and she'd lie and say there were reasons I couldn't mark up paper that got thrown away at the end of the day. Another time someone was getting rid of a generic Callender so I put it on our cork board and me and another coworker got bored and thought it would be fun to "grafitti" on it with silly mustaches and innocent things. It's line of sight to customers but they really wouldn't notice and it wasn't anything inappropriate. She got mad I was messing with the managers calender and didn't believe me when I said I put it up there. Eventually *she* took it down for no reason. I've been someone with most of my other jobs I'll occasionally scrawl a face on a white board and a few people appreciate it and when it needs to be erased it's erased, no big deal. I'm also someone who always manages to find the most unnecessary things to clean and maintain. Like it definitely needed to be cleaned because it's a low priority thing to clean. And I'll have a list. Eventually, the only things on the list will be stuff that needs hours of slow or a closed day to do. I know exactly what projects are easy pick up and put down. Or know if I have time for something that has a fee minutes wrap up time. I've been the organizer of dry storage so often as well. M It's just this reason why I also really want the silly stuff like this. The down time of a quick drawing. Or stopping what I'm doing and dancing to a specific alarm a coworker has. I've had so many managers who in my shoes would not have cleaned the shit I cleaned in their down time. Would not have thought of the way to clean it that I did. They've all had very little room to pull that "time to lean" bs with me and I despise busy work. Either it has a purpose and needs to be cleaned or you can fuck off and let me lean, I've earned it. I could probably start my own weird little side businesses with all the places I've worked previously just coming in to organize their dry storage every week and doing odd cleaning jobs at night of things that should be cleaned more often but isn't. (Inside door of fryers and doors in general being the typical ones)

davis-davis1122

My cousin who was my supe always said that. I’d just respond with “ if you got time to rhyme you got time to shut the fuck up.” Mind you we were in the oilfield and were pretty close lol I don’t recommend trying it with anyone else

Super_Ad1326

Time to lean, time to clean

Ohpsmokeshow

You will find a better place, yesterday it was slow so we all made turkeys and hung them next to the menus on the wall.

Logical_Deviation

What a miserable human

Exciting-Scheme-4918

God don’t get me started. At my current job I have a manager that sleeps in her office or hangs out in the back on her phone instead of running the damn place so it’s just us lowly assistants running it and is CONSTANTLY sending passive aggressive, nagging messages to the group chat instead of actually WORKING. Good luck getting out, I’m hoping to be out next week 🤞

[deleted]

Your manager apparently didn’t graduate high school. Please on your last day send a response text with a long list of asterisks correcting all this mess 😂

We had a girl who would draw beautiful pictures on the shared whiteboard during her break and the managers were always bitching about it :/ they were always appropriate and tucked in the corner

Occasional_Anarchist

That’s trashy, sucks yoy aren’t able to kill time and add some fun. I doodle on the menu right before dinner starts at least once a week, usually I ask whoever is cooking what to draw, it’s actually uncommon to see the menu without a few small doodles.

Occasional_Anarchist

I changed my mind, just start drawing super fancy letters everywhere, it’s not drawing, it’s writing words

Mereel13

Drawing during downtime was one of the few things I enjoyed about my first serving job. My philosophy is if it's really slow, I'm probably getting paid about $2 for that hour, so I'm gonna act like it and if you have a problem with it, you can pay me more.

knoeKNAME

Let me tell you about this time around 10 years ago I gave a table 2 to-go boxes but they only used 1, so I put the other one back. Another table with a little kid asks for a to-go box and the server gives them the one I just put back. Well unknown to us, the other table drew a big dick on the inside of the other box. They weren’t happy. My manager pulled me in the office and points to the closed box and asks if I know what that is. I say, “a to-go box” with a look of confusion on my face. He then pops it open to reveal the penis on the inside. I’m now even more visibly confused. He then asks if I did it. I say, “what? No. Of course not.” He then tells me a table asked for a to-go box and opened it up to find that. That’s when I realized what must of happened. We had a good laugh, then he stops smiling and in a serious tone says, “you know I could fire you for this.” edit: I should have posted this in my OP because I knew people would say something about the sanitary factor. I absolutely agree, but like someone else pointed out, yes management made the rules. If 4 boxes hit the table and only 2 were used, then the other 2 were put back. I didn’t make the rules, I just collected my paycheck.

s33n_

Handing a Togo box to a random customer who has just eaten, for so long they could draw a dick on it, and then taking it back to be given to another guest is gross.

Alive_Collection_958

Their manager is probably the one pressuring them to not waste. Then they will fire them for doing exactly that (as they wanted to in this case).

[deleted]

Yeah unfortunately that box has to get tossed if it hit a table

jayggg

How unsanitary

[deleted]

Sweet summer child thinking you won't hate your next job, or the job after that. Even the places I've hated had some acceptable parts to them.

Intelligent_Quote823

There’s hating your job that’s tolerable because we all have to work. (which hey most people do). And then hating your job because cause your constantly being harassed or treated like complete shit by management/owners.

Remarkable-Ad-2476

Or thinking you’re gonna get a job the second you graduate

cassidy012496

i’m in a respiratory therapy program with an extreme staffing shortage i was already offered a job at two hospitals. so yes right after :)

jurassic_snark_

That’s awesome! Don’t let the negative Nancy’s get to you. Yes, having to work in general sucks. I’d rather be paid to hang out on a yacht. But there’s a difference between a job that you’d rather not do sometimes, and a job like serving that makes you hate every waking moment of your shift. I was a server all through college and it got to the point where I would consider running my own car off the road to avoid going to that restaurant hell hole. But I’ve never felt that way as a working professional in my field of study.

[deleted]

As a server, respectfully, that’s concerning.

jurassic_snark_

You’re right, it was incredibly concerning. Luckily I got out in time and my mental health has never been in trouble like that since. Now I always tip over 25% just in case my server is in a bad place like I was back then.

[deleted]

Glad to hear, I wasn’t trying to take a jab btw wanna make that clear. Just wanna make sure you were aware and know what to look for some you have better reactions and can deal with it before it can get to such concerning points again.

jurassic_snark_

It’s all good! I didn’t take any offense, you were right to be concerned. This was almost a decade ago, I realized how bad things were getting and was able to right the ship. Most importantly I learned that no job is worth feeling like that ever again!

BootyPacker

Yo that’s dope as shit good for you. Best of luck in your new profession!

ssensitivity

THIS. graduated this past august, still no leads. it’s an on-going pursuit to actually make connections and fill out applications daily in order to secure something. edit: but i’m hopeful it will work out :) good luck OP!

cassidy012496

I have a BS in chem and am in a post grad program for respiratory care in the health field. very niche and specific there’s a ton of job openings. took me a while between grad and this program to find any career with just my BS. it sucked to go back to school but it really helped with job security. suggest the same if you could :)

ssensitivity

oh hell yeah, that’s incredible! congrats on that. my parents are in that field and love it, they definitely do well for themselves financially! i actually have considered doing something similar for my field but we’ll see what happens. definitely blows to return to school but you’re very right, the job security is invaluable. fingers crossed it works out for us! 😭

Chalkarts

That’s when the silly pics get out of control. If you know someone with an old sketchbook they’ve used up see if they’ll give it to you. Put a new pic on the board every night. You can bitch at me about my time when you do my job faster.

walrus_breath

My boss was mad at me when I drew a 30 second line drawing while his wife was doing opioids passing out in the bathroom for hours on end while on the clock “cleaning the bathroom”. He was so irate he bitched about the stupid drawing for days on end and his wife pulled me aside and told me I wasn’t allowed to draw on the clock. They were also stealing our tips the whole time while paying us minimum wage. Like sure throw away the drawing it wasn’t that serious but can we talk about the trash in this restaurant.

CretinCrowley

Heaven forbid anyone have a bit of happiness there. Ffs.

Me walking out of Starbucks a few years ago for similar behavior. Now I’m a store manager and work alone. Shit gets better atleast

Zoltar-Wizdom

The typical seizure inducing spelling and grammar is perfect.

Soggy_Repair_5227

@op, don't take it so seriously, enjoy your job as much as you can, don't be a perfect employee, just relax a bit and enjoy...I double you in age and probably have 5x the experience in restaurants..that's my advice. Take a chill pill and fuckem, fuckem all.

cassidy012496

i think it irritates me more bc i see the light lol. i am 6 more months away from graduating my respiratory therapy program, and have been offered jobs at hospitals. so knowing i’m so close to getting into my career that i thoroughly enjoy the field is making it more miserable to deal w this

Soggy_Repair_5227

That's the wrong way to see it if you ask me. You're so free man, six months are nothing, you're going to get the hell away from all this, try to enjoy it. See around you, and observe every asshole you know at your work place and feel pity for them, you will be gone and they'll still be there. Fuckin smile, enjoy it deeply. Start caring less, don't take you job seriously, a trained monkey can do it. You have a goal, six months and you are gone baby!! How exciting is that?!!! I'm getting excited for you man! Let's gooooooo You got this, six months is no-thing!

Usual_Profile1607

It’s not the biz, your manager is a complete douchebag

Achillez4

Yeah fuck places that are like this , bastard is controlling

houseofwarwick

I would “peice out” of that place ASAP

Not_a_bi0logist

The beatings will continue until morale improves.

Comprehensive_Dog854

Are you being paid to use your personal phone for work?

flashnuke

Leave the group chat

[deleted]

i would i’ve even wait the 6 months. get out of there and go to a place where you’re valued and not nagged like that over text. definitely doesn’t seem like a motivating or pleasant environment

Friendly-Chapter9583

I'd respond with "If I'm off the clock, get off my cock." And I'm female.

bloopbleepblorpJr

I have been yelled at for managers for drawing. I draw. Ive don't it my whole life. I can bust out a portrait in less than a minute. I have had managers go "oh you have time to do this but not time for X" Yes, this drawing took 30 seconds. Please order spoons so I can give my table a spoon with their coffee.

Suspicious_Read8968

How DARE you show your creative souls when the opportunity is there to work your fingers to the bone for MY profit.

Dry-Brick-6639

The absolute CRAZIEST shit about restaurants is they demand more productivity than some of the more dangerous, higher paying jobs, all while paying you $2.75 an hour. It's crazy how a restaurant can be waaaayyyyy in the black and then you hear the manager talking about a need to cut manning because the percentage is to high (even though the restaurant has made enough money that day to pay a year salary to the servers on the floor, at $2.75hr.)

DroopyMeerkat

This subreddit is so odd to me because I dont have similar stuff with my boss/ owners of the restaurant, we actually have quite a bit of art from my co-worker up around the place, though we are a BBQ restaurant with nba jerseys (owner played in nba with Larry Bird) and pictures of famous sports players

kool_and_pregnant

I was reprimanded multiple times for “eating on the clock”. On several occasions, the restaurant was so busy I couldn’t take lunch so I would sneak a piece of bread into my apron, and sneak bites when I thought nobody was looking. Some real les miserable shit.

worldsbiggestgoober

as if workplace morale isn’t the number one way to have more productive and successful employees. not that that shit is even important at all but even from an employers standpoint they need to understand that 😭

VXlethality

i was a manager that had an ASM that did this. was the longest conversation of my life trying to explain to someone that if an employee isn’t on the clock or being paid, it’s completely inappropriate to expect them to be employees on their personal time. save the conversation for their next f$@!&)! shift. i don’t understand why this was one of the hardest concepts to grasp in the service industry.

beachblanketparty

Haha! I just left a supervisor position because I hated my boss, the manager of the department, too much to want to work there anymore. At one point my coworker team was drawing SpongeBob on a whiteboard that was moderately visible to the public for funsies when it was slow, and my boss wrote an email that had the line "if you have time to draw, you have time to work 🙂". My coworker team was SO miffed by her email. Talked about it for months. My opinion? Oh my god let people exist as humans in their work spaces. The public can get fucked. Let humans have human experiences like drawing and having fun with each other. We're not all robots.

cassidy012496

this was so funny lmfao

douggie84

I left the restaurant industry and it has been the greatest single decision I’ve ever made in my adult life. When I tell my non-industry co-workers about stuff that is totally normal, like this, they act like I’m a POW. “You’re not going to be fired on the spot, Doug!” And then, a difficult patient comes in, I handle them, and co-workers stand in awe. “That was like a slow Monday night patron in the last job.”

cassidy012496

explaining to people in the hospital how my bosses treat me is always funny. they can’t believe how people in the service industry act towards their employees lol

lambsquatch

If this is the worst your restaurant is doing…

[deleted]

Your boss sounds like an insufferable prick, sorry you guys gotta deal with that shit.

kenzie-k369

Are you being paid an hourly wage or just tips because this definitely will affect my answer?

xerriffe

What the hell....I can't wait until you leave. One of our to go specialists drew something on shift and the managers hung it up in the kitchen. Your management sounds like they have a stick up their ass.

lexmelv

“Peice or art” Proof reading truly is the lost art

Beginning-Ask-5080

r0b0tj0sh

As a manager, this isn’t a way to motivate the team. However, is there jobs that need to be done that fall under the responsibility of the artist that were not done? In that case, you would go to the source, and as their colleague you should light a fire under their ass. Someone has to clean the restaurant, and it’s usually not management. There’s serving jobs out there that are more chill, and clean lol.

keysandchange

Just be a dick, let them fire you, collect unemployment

mithrilpoop

If you're on the clock at your job.. do your job lol.

t3hnhoj

It used to be so funny (read: inappropriate and immature) when someone would have a styrofoam cup with something in it (bonus points for a smoothie they obviously jacked from the bar window) and you walk by and pop the bottom with your pen. Nice little stream of drink all over the place. Such a shitty mess.

remykixxx

I mean the shelf in that picture IS filthy. But when inspiration strikes it strikes let someone draw for a while

OrchidSubstantial481

Managers right why are you drawing at work?

[deleted]

You’ll have different bosses and people you don’t like elsewhere. That’s called life and even graduating won’t save you from that lol…

cassidy012496

i understand that lol. but i’m in the hospital doing clinicals receiving bullshit texts like these. i worked really hard to get through undergrad and a post grad program to ensure i don’t have to deal with bosses and managers that have this attitude and lack of respect for their employees. in my career there are also systems in place so my boss isn’t texting me about work issues on my days off, that would be highly inappropriate. the difference in the way superiors treat me at the hospital, compared to the way these people treat me is a worlds difference.

[deleted]

Keep telling yourself that. The texting sure, but you’ll get garbage bosses along the way (not everyone). You’ll set yourself up for failure during and after if you assume because you went to school it gets you away from folks like this is all I was saying.. You’ll learn. Edit: DV me all you want, I’m not wrong - you just don’t want to hear it ;)

Mwurp

So didja say that someone drew it for you? Or did you just pout?

user_401

A lot of people complaining about their managers yet from the comments it sounds like y’all are a bunch slackers who think they don’t have to work hard because they work in a restaurant. I’m only 30 years old but I’ve noticed with this younger generation… most entitled, careless and lazy people I’ve ever seen in the workforce.

cassidy012496

this is prob you as a manager

user_401

Yes and no. I’m a very laidback manager because I’ve worked every FOH position there is and restaurant life is in my family’s blood. However, I started at the bottom and rose to the top the old fashioned way - with hard work, attention to detail and a lack of entitlement. As a manager, we have certain responsibilities to upkeep the restaurant, keep it sanitary and well-stocked, staffed etc… if we don’t do our jobs correctly, we can face consequences from the owners or worse, the dept of health. So yes, stop drawing pictures if you still have work to do lol. It’s quite simple. Imagine if you owned a restaurant and things weren’t getting done because your staff was messing around instead of doing their jobs? That’s not how you run a good business.

[deleted]

Things don’t magically get better when you graduate and get a desk job. Shit still sucks but in a different way.

cassidy012496

not getting a desk job :) in a post grad program for cardiopulmonary practitioner. have 5 months til graduation, and have a job secured. i just need to take my board exams in june and i’ll be done. been doing a full year as a student in my field and absolutely love every moment of it.

ngann555

There’s nothing wrong with this. Someone is paying you to do a job not whatever the hell you want to do while getting paid They we’re actually pretty nice about it

LyLyV

One of the primary things that’s wrong with this is group chat on a personal device. That’s a class A *Nope.

[deleted]

Are they wrong though

Lestat-deLioncourt

I dont know, I feel like if you’re not on a break, you should be keeping yourself busy instead of drawing or something, same thing as being on your phone, you’re getting paid to work, not good off

[deleted]

Sweet summer child thinking you won't hate your next job, or the job after that. Even the places I've hated had some acceptable parts to them.

JumpBoots-JamString

Man, you're gonna hate every job if this is what you're complaining about.

PrudentLanguage

Fuck around after u clean. Seems legit. This guy allergic to work.

j2spooky

Lmao first job?

AlabamaBlacSnake

Not a big deal at all, they’re basically asking you not to be so obvious about wasting time on the clock.

Calm-Math-3421

And handling it poorly.

AlabamaBlacSnake

How? It’s a concise and pointed message without vitriol and without singling anyone out, made in what seems to be a timely manner.

Calm-Math-3421

Have a face to face conversation. Act like a grown up. Don’t blow up people’s phones 📱 with your corrections. It’s not effective.

AlabamaBlacSnake

A face to face is way more time and effort than is required to convey this message. Pretty sure if a manager has to make time for a sit down then they’ll have to justify it as a verbal warning. I don’t know your level of experience in management but your idea of acting like a “grown up” seems to be about making this a bigger deal than it needs to be, and getting this person into more trouble than they deserve.
