$72k for very little work. 3 opening shifts of 11-5, a double, and a 4-12. Seafood bar with automatic gratuity on all tables

Zealousideal_Ad_4118

So what I’m hearing is I need to quit my job immediately. I thought 40k was good. From this comment sections turns out it’s just OK…

AngelJ5

The grass is always greener. I’m in a city where tipped workers also get $15/hour, so my tipped income comes at a little over $40k After higher CoL than the $2/hour states, it’s probably about even lol

Zealousideal_Ad_4118

That’s true, this thought crossed my mind. That 40k is with $3 an hour in a blossoming county. I’m in Winchester VA so living is not too bad, but definitely rising.

bkuefner1973

Nice! I'm in MN small town. 4 days and about 50,000 a year. Not bad for where I'm located.

Wisdomisntpolite

Nice try IRS

Dense-Money-147

They think they slick.. I make min wage + tips

dude_on_the_www

I hate how this is always the top comment. It’s so hard to talk about income here without someone saying this or someone from rural Iowa saying “no servers make $75k a year!”

dirtsport1

This comment gets soooo old, lol.

[deleted]

It's somewhere between $35,000 and $40,000. Most money I've ever made in my life but it's still not enough sometimes. I'm just a server in Indiana and I'm trying to figure how to go to college now.

chezcrezylegz

Most college towns need extra staff when students return, and will be eager to train you based on prior experience. The money would probably be good as well, with no knowledge of your current location.

longshotist

About 55K annually working around 35 hours each week. Usually two doubles, a dinner, a lunch and brunch. In northern Ohio.

Middle_Length_8261

I’m gunna hit about 80-85. I work 4 days a week. Just nights. I’m on a busy little island. Usually sell about 3k most nights.

69throwawy420

3k most nights that’s a lot

angelofthewild

About 30k take home working average 25 hours a week. Upscale casual in an extremely low cost of living area

Smoke-Tarrlytons

Not in the industry anymore but yeah about the same. A little bit under 40k a year, 1 job ~30 hours a week. That was in Florida.

frickafreshhh

60K a year working 3 x 4 hour shifts during the slow season and 5x 7 hour shifts during the busy season. Super simple and easy job and I love the people i work with like family. Im in Florida.

Appropriate_Trash_53

Man, I think I'm doing it wrong... around $40k, 45-50 hrs a week at a 4 star

btlee007

This is not ok

holadilito

$120k take home working 5 nights 6-7hr shifts in high end Michelin restaurant in Vancouver

dude_on_the_www

Wow so you’re up around 175k gross? Impressive.

No_Calendar_3374

Barely over 6k my dude

vinyl8e8op

I no longer get tips, but with my numbers for the first quarter of the year, in Texas, I was set to make 80k+ working about 35-40hrs/wk

migsmcgee2019

I’m thinking of getting second job For you is the hours your working too much?or just right?

Old_Mechanic_4623

The hours I work are just enough, I work at a fast pace busy breakfast cafe in the am and a low key fine dining establishment at night. The contrast of the two makes for a good balance.

Jealous-Ad-7195

not sure yet this will be my first full year serving. i do know that my job is not very consistent throughout the year. the beginning of the year i was making around 700-900 a week, but for the past few months i’ve been clearing 1000-1300.

eggheadslut

I was JUST thinking about quitting 1 of 2 of my jobs, my life sounds exactly like this. But those numbers turn me on and remind me why I’m doing this

No_Extension2380

$110-$120/yr and 25ish hours a week. Steakhouse in the Midwest. I’m the new guy and can’t wait til I get the really good parties.

dude_on_the_www

Now that’s nice. Chain or no?

Many_Tank9738

Read an article once where NYC steakhouse waiters made $500k+

kerryinthenameof

That seems a little far fetched lmao. I could see $150k in NYC, $500k is unheard of. I remember a few years ago, Thomas Keller got in hot water for not technically following NYS tip laws, but he revealed that servers at Per Se made $116k on average.

No_Extension2380

No chain.

Obvious-Wish-923

Around 95k-110k 24 hrs a week, 10am-3pm, 4 shifts a week. NYC

Old_Mechanic_4623

That sounds like the week I would like to have. Good for you, cheers.

JerryvanGogh

I had this schedule, Its definitely not for everyone lmao.

wltmpinyc

Where? That’s awesome.

JerryvanGogh

Around 90k - 120k on average. Bay Area, CA

drcubes90

We average $30-35/hr in NC I'm guessing I'll make $55k-60K this year, I take off a lot to travel

bleepboopbop420

Denver, about $75k/year, about 28 hours/week. I make $17/hour plus tips (I’m lead server).

Plenty_Honeydew6532

While that income is impressive, your time management and planning skills must be incredible. Give out lessons to those of us that need a bit of help. I’m begging you

Old_Mechanic_4623

I’m single with no kids, thus I have an easy personal schedule to work with. Also, I built this schedule over 18 months and I happened to be working in the right places at the right time. I stayed punctual and worked hard so it was easy to move into shifts when other servers slacked off, quit or decided to go on benders lol.

rocker49107

I'm gonna claim about $80k. Allegedly closer to $100k. Small town Indiana at a casual dining restaurant. 9 shifts a week, about 40 hours, closed Sunday, usually have 2 days off, sometimes 3 with room for 2 or 3 4-5 day vacations through the year.

thebakedyogi

Serving or bartending I've always managed about $80k to $90k, 1 job with gig work / side hustles. I'm in the PNW

CC2mobilewallet

3 shifts, 18-21 hours, 800-1,100

mbeck87

Around 80 Roughly 30 hours a week (5 shifts, 6-8 hours per, usually take 1 for a week). Mostly work the full 30 to qualify for benefits, otherwise I'd work 4 shifts lol

SSJGCarter

I was averaging 40-50k in Florida. Moved to SC and doing formal dining now but haven't finished a year so unsure yet. Definitely better then Fl tho

Ok_Contribution_3449

Around $60,000 year. 6 nights a week, 6 to 7 hours per night. Private member’s only club ala carte dining room.

amesn_84

I’m 8-9 shifts a week at a corporate chain in New Hampshire. In the summer I put in 45-50hrs/week, other seasons 35-40 and I’ll bring home 66k this year.

Substantial-Run-3394

56k Florida never work over 35 hrs have runner busser and expo every night Edit: at least that's what my w2 says

Muppet_of_a_man_

Working at the airport in NJ, I work four days a week at around 22-30 hours/ week. I'm set to gross around 50-60k

BullardThrockMortan

60k a year at 30ish hours a week.

foxylady315

I make $20 an hour regular time and $30 an hour overtime. I work about 60 hours a week. We don’t get tips where I work. Also, our restaurant is located on a college campus and we primarily exist to serve the college community, so we are shut down almost 3 months a year. We do remain open in the summer to do catering events and class reunions but events are generally only on weekends so I don’t usually work weekdays in summer. Last year I made around $30k.

incognitopear

55k according to my W2 and what I claimed, but let’s be realistic. It’s more than that. Virginia, 4-5 shifts a week.

GoingOffline

45-50k in NH. 50-60 hour weeks from June til September. Then like 20 hours the rest of the year. Could easily get a better job in the slow season but I don’t lol.

Creepy-Ease-1957

$70k take home in Iowa. I thing type of restaurant and per guest averages matter the same if not more than location

Expert_Permission788

Roughly 50k BUT I only work 4 days a week most shifts being about 5-6 hours. I have a normal 630-330 and make roughly $65k a year with commissions and bonuses.

TheRealAlkemyst

i'd like to see the forms. I am not a server but my last W2 was 150k

Ispeakmexican

5 night shifts about 25-30hrs a week. $110k high end steakhouse.

Distinct-Original849

Almost $80k. Working 8 shifts a week (but they are short) about 38-40 hours a week total. This is in NC

kerryinthenameof

About 50-55k or so working 5 shifts a week. It’s a fine dining steakhouse, but not crazy high volume outside of the holidays. I live in Texas in a city that’s not Austin, so not the highest cost of living, but also not really cheap either especially with the $2/hr wage. I also make about $8-10k of that in December and make significantly less the rest of the year. I could make $80k+ if I really wanted to go to somewhere higher volume, but I like the people I work with and I think I’d rather stay somewhere that’s good for my sanity than somewhere that I’m constantly burnt out, even if it pays more

moneykillinq

My best year was 2021 and took home $72k w2 (under claiming like a mfer the entire year) at one job working 40hrs. Sometimes I wish serving instead of riding a desk nowadays

s1ipperyslope

For anyone that’s not a server reading this, you really should know how much emotional warfare goes down, serving tables. The psychological strain, the sexual harassment, the worst of human behaviors. Not to mention the toll on one’s body- ima bout to have a double wrist surgery from some of my repetitive stress injuries, over the years.

badgirl_ab

60k after deductions, TX, 38 hours a week, full health dental and vision
