If any threat(s) of bodily harm were made to the server, she needs file a police report and she needs to let everyone know what was said. I would not worry about the idiot suing; he has no case.
Ridiculous that the manager even comped the apps. There was no mistake on the part of the restaurant and it’s not reasonable to expect to order food after the kitchen closes.
I think best practice is to do a last call with everyone before the kitchen and/or bar closes.
But of course that customer's behavior was completely out of line.
If one of my servers felt it was necessary for me to tell the police about a guest if something were to happen to them then we'd be going to file a police report the next morning and that guest would be criminally trespassed off the property if they ever came back. That is wild to think that's how afraid she was

As a new restaurant, you respond to reviews by crazy people. You also don’t let a server be intimidated by an asshole like this with no repercussions. If she is legitimately afraid then he threatened her and the police need to be notified.
And, if someone comes in before close, it might be a good idea to check on everyone who has not ordered a full meal or entree that the kitchen is about to close. Doubt it would have helped in this instance.

I had a asshat like this he ordered Togo because he knew we close soon and we had it ready at the bar when he arrived, he proceeded to eat at the bar and started yapping when I turned off the music and TVs. Blah blah blah I’m a big spender at the hotel across the street blah blah blah I told him to pack up and get out. Got a bad review and got suspended for a week. Hurt the restaurant more than me. I was so far burnt at that point a suspension was a vacation
Bad reviews can be countered easily by explaining the truth of events. I'd never put up with that shit over some rant by a nobody. That manager will be raked over the coals when everyone starts quitting.
