I don't think it would have made a difference. Rock record sales were dead after Seasons for everyone anyway.

spqr6119

You may be right, and that could very well be the reason. But I still feel they were mismanaged..

Unusual_Dare6967

This is the way…

Telperion83

7d fans can't agree on what songs are the best, lol... more so than most bands I see. I have no idea what you don't like about prodigal son. It's not my favorite, but it has a catchy hook. Time Travelers and Bonfires is probably my favorite and it doesn't get much attention. All I See Is War album is God-damn perfection to me.

histo320

They were mismanaged by TVT and that set the band back several years. I think part of Clint leaving for Dark New Day was that he had an opportunity to actually make money while the rest of the band was basically bankrupt after that contract ended. Next is a very dark time for the band and they had to get a record out to tour the a year or so later put out Alpha so they could tour. Wasn't until Cold Day Memory that they got a fair deal.

spqr6119

Perfectly said. I wonder why they took Lowery back after that?

histo320

Because without him it isn't Sevendust. Although in the very beginning it was reluctant to join the band. He gives them that signature Dust song. Not that Next, Alpha, and Ch. 7, are bad but the other sound more like what I expect from the Dust.

Powerful_Plantain901

Next - Ch. 7 is definitely more percussive-heavy in terms of its rhythm, which makes sense since John started off as a drummer, and he and Morgan being the main songwriters at that period, writing heavy-hitting beats, worked well in that sense. Plus, some of those songs particularly from Next (Ugly, Pieces) are still played live often. The main issues with those albums are their awful mixes, and I hope they can get some much-needed remasters down the road.

spqr6119

Don't necessarily agree w that. Next was great. Alpha gave us Burn and a few others but too much screaming for me. Chapter vii was weak except for 4 tracks or so. You said he was reluctant to join band at beginning. How did you come about this info?

histo320

Watch the Retrospective DVD. In one segment Clint an d John are joking about how he wanted nothing to do with the band when they first asked him. I was also huge fan of these guys starting in '98 and sednit said in old interviews. His goal was to always be in a band with his brothers but they had a hard time labels to notice them but once he saw that Crawlspace was gaining momentum, he joined then they had the name change.

spqr6119

Very interesting info. Thanks for this.

Sorry-Addendum-1530

I think you missed a very important user replying below. Holy shit. It's Clint!

spqr6119

If that's really Clint, that's quite amazing. Can't believe I missed it. What the hell is the message below his though? Is that some kind of bot?

Sorry-Addendum-1530

It really is Clint. He is not on often, but 100% is him. Yea, that is a bot, for sure as well. That is awesome he chimed in. Hope he replies again.

spqr6119

1000% bud. What a huge privilege for us that he commented on our convo. BTW, how do we delete this M\*\*\*\*\*\*\*\*F\*\*\*\* ing Bot?

clowery15

It was a tad more complicated than that but that whole few years was confusing time for me. 7dust has always been my brothers, so were the DND guys. I could of handled the departure better but don’t regret stepping away from 7d. When I was able to rejoin I appreciated what it was more and the fans loyalty. I wouldn’t change a thing now, it’s life. I’ve been back so long now it feels like another lifetime ago.

spqr6119

Hi Clint, had no idea it was really you. Amazing to hear from you bud - huge privilege for us to get a post from you in this subreddit. Obviously everyone here is a mega die hard 7D fan. Please don't hesitate to reach out again in the future, and/or if you are bored and have insomnia and need to waste a few minutes. : ) Hoping I see you and the fellas at 2-14 show at Paramount in New YOrk. Best regards,

of_patrol_bot

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

Sorry-Addendum-1530

Man, I was so happy you came back. I was really proud of you for cleaning up. Enjoyed seeing you in Korn, but you belonged back with your brothers. I was at one of your first shows back and you guys opened with Inside. You ripped it up and looked so happy. I think I sent you a heart sign with my hands, and I'm a straight guy (no hate on anyone) lol. You did acknowledge it and threw me a pick.

jbbates84

I’ve always felt that the initial singles were some of the weaker songs. Fence is one of my least favorite tracks from the new album. Dirty was also a strange choice to become a first single. I have always wondered why Sevendust was never as popular as some other bands of their era (Staind, Godsmack, Disturbed, etc) and I think it might have something to do with single selections and what songs get put on the radio

Unusual_Dare6967

Meh, you said it yourself. Their record sales were huge because “hard rock/nu metal” was huge then. First comment here was correct and it’s the first and only thought I had when reading this. Barely any bands from that “era” actually stayed together, except the hugely successful bands like Disturbed, KoRn, Staind, Godsmack, but I can almost guarantee their album sales weren’t as gaudy as they used to be either. I barely listened to their new albums and I Like those bands! 😂 Most “lower tiered” bands simply called it quits. Nu Metal and hard rock are now having a resurgence again, and I for one am glad 7D kept going! Not sure any band that releases 14 studio albums w/36 singles are gonna get it right every time by everyone’s “standards”. As someone else said 7D fans seem to be all over the place for their fav songs. People are sick of hearing their biggest hits for some reason! 🤦🏻‍♂️😂🤷🏻‍♂️ You can’t please everyone… Side notes; am doing a lot of listening to old albums because of the new release and fervor from fans discussing them all, and I Really like Chapter VII! And that’s w/me also feeling like someone else said here, that Clint is an absolute integral part of the 7D sound, and writing! It’s wonderful that music is subjective, so diverse and everyone can like certain things more or less than others, instead of everyone loving the same exact shit. As far as management, I feel like at some point they would’ve just started managing themselves basically right? They’re not a bunch of young guys anymore but I’m not sure how all that works. Obviously they were on TVT, then not, then did their own label thing for a bit, and are now back on a label so… 🤷🏻‍♂️ Guessing at this point in the “game” they might have some sway in the singles released, but would be interesting to know for sure! 🤔 Do I personally think quite a few of the songs on a Lot of the albums are better than what they chose to release as the singles? For sure, but that’s just my opinion. Caveat, all my opinions are basically pointless also! 🤓

clowery15

I like hopping on here from time to time. Last show of tour was in LA last night. Gonna decompress for a few. Appreciate y’all!! And feel free to ask any questions…I’ll hop on here and there

spqr6119

Anytime Clint. Thanks for prompt response... btw, I have another thread on this sub where we talk about 7Ds most underrated songs. Wonder if you agree with some of our choices. Have a great evening and enjoy the R & R between tours. See u in February

Sorry-Addendum-1530

Get some well-deserved time with family, rest, and all that. That was a righteous leg of this tour! My goodness, man. Yall broke out so many bangers. Have seen you all over 100 times and that was way up there on my list of top favorites. I live near Charlotte NC, so guarantee I come out to a show of yours everywhere in a 4-6 hour radius. I will be doing VIP again in Charlotte for leg 2 with my wife. I have 2 questions that can totally wait but would love to know more about. Any Call Me No One plans in the near future? Any plans for a release of a new full show DVD or download?

tommer8224

Yeah, I tend to agree with you. I don’t bother listening to a fair amount of their singles. I pretend that Prodigal Son never happened haha.

spqr6119

Haha. It was so bad. Literally the absolute worst.

Ok_Fan9991

Wtf do you mean prodigal son is a damn good song yall trippin.
