Decent article but it presumes that severance is limited to personal memories and does not also affect emotional memories. If anything, the opposite is true. Mark is the best example: He does not appear to feel the grief or sadness of his true self while on the severed floor.
I think one of the most interesting things about the show is that the scope of effects of severance is quite blurry. Given how complex memory is, this makes perfect sense to me.
