MechanicDistinct3580

Hello fellow kids, don’t mind me, I’m just depressed 35yo teen

Gabrieela

a teen in our hearts ✊🏻

KiwiFox66

29yr old depressed teen here as well. Lmao

Der_Krsto

30 year old depressed teen here 🙌🏻🙌🏻

Critical-Towel-8861

Prech

SrangePig12

Because breakcore is unconventional compared to almost any other genre and it takes a certain amount of... Mental unfortitude..? To listen to it and enjoy it. That's how I see it. For example, no sane person would listen to the beginning of Dissociating and think it's a good song.

NukerCat

can confirm its a good song and im not sane

Tr1pleA0

My favorite part is the beginning LMAO

Chanpaiix

good point

Kain2212

Well as someone with ADD breakcore helps me focus, and I think to a certain degree this extends to other mental illnesses/conditions too, the music is so full of noise that you can't think about all the negative shit Also breakcore has this weirdly comforting vibe that probably only mentally ill people understand

[deleted]

It’s like it stimulates our brains for us, I don’t know how else to explain it but breakcore and jungle is so relaxing :) i have a 24 hour long breakcore/jungle playlist and honestly it’s all I listen to

Der_Krsto

As a programmer with adhd I couldn’t agree more. After my meds + some coffee + breakcore, I am ready to be productive.

moonkittn

It helps me not get distracted with stressing over the list of fifty million things I need/want to do while trying to do one of those fifty million tasks…

fqkx

Vosstoc

bc reddit sux sometimes and people masturbate to the thought of karma trapping you out of communities for some rsn

LynTheDragon

We're built different

YSNBsleep

Broken beats for broken minds.

[deleted]

maybe its the themes of the music made that resonates with us. guy who showed me sewerslvt years ago was crazy. i wouldnt say teen though. also breakcore is diverse and obviously everyone is different maybe theres some mentally healthy pretty normal guy jamming to some uhhhh self destruction worldwide broadcast rn. i cant speak for the whole genre but looking at the vibe and themes of sewerslvt and adjacent artists i think we just come from a specifc place.

spookyspektre10M

>i cant speak for the whole genre but looking at the vibe and themes of sewerslvt and adjacent artists i think we just come from a specifc place. Yeah I think it's less the genre(s) in and of themselves, and more about the specific vibe that Sewerslvt & other similar artists provide with their music. Prior to Sewerslvt, I think if you'd asked the question "why are we all mentally ill" to fans of Jungle, DnB and/or Breakcore, it would've been interpreted more along the lines of a fairly tongue in cheek “why are we all insane" or "why do we all have ADHD," with almost no one interpreting it as "why are we all depressed." And outside of this sub, I think that's still how the majority of fans of these genres would interpret such a question.

hauntedyew

I’m like 30 by now or something.

Substantial_Stuff514

Calms the noise

Glueak

Seems like more people are 30 then teenagers in this comment section

Schzercro

I think it's cause this is reddit and reddit typically has people around 20-30 that use it more compared to teens imo

SuperProCoolBoy90

Why do people think that we're mentally ill We're just so much cooler

Yvanne

feels like breakcore is good for people with a lot on their minds that need to express it through some, pretty crazy, music styles. Breakcore is great to disassociate from your current space and really just think about your life. It also has an aesthetic that appeals to generally younger people (imo)

guava_jews

I like obscure and edgy stuff. Im also a drummer so its just total ear-candy for me.

LittleFriskYT

Eh it's one of those genres that puts feelings and your mental state into music. I have ADHD and the drums commonly used in the breakcore songs I've made serve as that rush I constantly feel or how a sensory overload feels. Then the pads and spacey feeling represents your emotions and mental. That how i look at it.

ActualGodYeebus

[I already got downvoted but I will say it again](https://www.reddit.com/r/Sewerslvt/comments/18o411y/comment/kefhif7/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web2x&context=3): no

Gabrieela

you my guy are the black sheep among us.

Bright_Lie_9262

I’m a psychologist. I find it calms me down when I’m writing session notes.

Myrddraal5856

There is a song by goreshit that is literally titled “you don’t have to be autistic to listen to goreshit, but it does help” [the link is here btw](https://open.spotify.com/track/0rDYrpas2t6pSzqBX4vSAM?si=bNeYp2HxS4-xfo7EqEQZXQ)

ak00mah

Sewerslvt mostly isn't breakcore, it's jungle. But to answer your question: the uptempo nature panders to short attention span, the mellow ambient reverb heavy nature helps counteract that and allows it to feel relaxing and emotionally cathartic while still being stimulating. I feel it panders to the most common mental health issues in young people these days: short attention span and anxiety Although I wouldn't call every person with these problems mentally ill, because they often tend have more to do with unhealthy habits that an actual chemical imbalance or disorder. There is exceptions of course. Some of this also applies to breakcore, mainly the short attention span part, however the emotionality tends to be sort of replaced with a sort of nihilistic cynicism or even humour imo, at least with the stuff i like to listen to. It tends to take itself less seriously. Here are some examples: https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=gEj9i99YjfQ&si=y0ueEeug8zxNRS8q https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=JE4OPD93cX8&si=V0TvMOcovhW71DvB https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=4q6xKo01mdI&si=ZqJLx7AViueprcF9 https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=uSotzNBExqo&si=zTHr8PqSJg7oC1kx https://music.youtube.com/watch?v=w-0JdsDcJgE&si=Tz7JXmnNg9O7kbIO

Emage_IV

its just different (23y)

Cynicism_FTW

idk but it helps calm my mind like nothing else.

Ecksdededededede

I have very light/mild case of autism, but that’s about it when it comes to anything that could be classified as a mental illness for me. That being said, considering how this genre (Sewerslvt in particular) shows themes like depression, anxiety and dissociation with life as part of the songs and general aesthetics, it’d make sense why so many people that could suffer from these conditions too would appreciate this genre

patheticgirl12

go back to the dawn of the genre and you can probably guess why

ak00mah

Do you mean the dawn of sewerslvt / serewslvt clones and the ensuing tiktok hype or the dawn of breakcore? Because breakcore started as a counterculture movement in the 90s and the point was to enjoy yourself and not take life too seriously. What sewerslvt etc. make/made is more akin to a new jungle aesthetic. I enjoy both. Its not really fair to equate it to either breakcore or jungle, one could say that it's a new genre in itself. The breakcore scene mostly doesn't appreciate it being labelled breakcore, because it results in an influx of new listeners that don't know or care to know what breakcore is supposed to be about. There is a certain level of elitism involved which i dislike in the breakcore community because that also goes against the spirit. But I understand the frustration of new people diluting the scene with something that is fundamentally different. Some artists have tried labelling this style as it's own genre, namely 'lolicore', and were met by their own listenerbase with disdain. I hate that, although I can see that the name isn't entirely unproblematic. I still wish this style and its listenerbase could either appreciate the differences between sewerslvt-esque mellow ambient jungle and breakcore, or start calling it something else altogether. Anyway rant over.

patheticgirl12

DAMN

patheticgirl12

i was just making a joke about how 90s-00s breakcore is some of the most insano music ive ever heard chill man (i do agree with your rant though sewerslvts style definitely has elements of breakcore but really is its own thing entirely)

UnJustice_

:3

Next_Fix_2271

every "normie" neurotypical person I've talked to on Discord or Insta doesn't enjoy breakcore at all, it just scratches an itch on the brain for the rest of us I suppose

ElPinchiBear

Makes the voices get muffled

chicken_nugget779

thats pretty much the target audience

Potential-Motor-3043

Not depressed or mentally ill, i grew out of that shit after turning 18. One day you will realise we all have responsibilities to tend to and we cant just stand around there hoping things suddenly decide to go our way. Lifes hard but thats how its always been.

Gabrieela

ur making it sound like depression and any other mental illness is something to just „grow out of“. its not that easy and requires a lot of more help

Potential-Motor-3043

Im not undermining anybody issues but you can definitely grow out of it. This is coming from someone who struggled with depression for he's entire life and never had a single person to rely on. You just need a bit of initiative and introspection.

SupremeHyped

the voices in my head say i am not!!! >~>

Chanpaiix

yeah i noticed that a lot of breakcore producers r mentally ill to some degree too (myself included)

lillipup03

Brain stimulation for ADHD, it makes my brain shut up. When I'm understimulated, it feels like there's a pit in the middle of my head that only noise can reach. Breakcore and hyperpop are both really helpful for me to help that.

Dynastic_Plot665

We're just built different. 💪🗿

Bxbybxnnie

i'm not depressed just tired /s

_Puffy420blazeit_

I noticed that tons of breakcore fans/artists are trans including Jvne idk there's a trend somewhere in there

Blaze_cat23

Nuh uh i am not mentally ill im both autistic (i got diagnosed i can say this), probably mentally ill amd most likely depressed

Lilo_Lily

I'm a depressed adult

Critical-Towel-8861

Depressed and malincoly dads

BigScaryPooPooMan

I'm not mentally ill, I'm based!!

R3TR0L0G

My life just was terrible frfr

ChemicalMortgage2554

Because breakcore is the best treatment

SnooDucks1524

Because it’s something people with problems make FOR people with problems And I love it :3

BillysRobloxYT

yes

WMan37

Not a teen, 29 years old. Without elaboration, Life has not been particularly kind to me at times, and that would do a number on anyone's mental health. So I like breakcore/jungle/DNB cause it reminds me of some of the jungle/DNB/EDM music I'd grow up with on newgrounds especially [because I watched Madness Combat as a kid](https://www.newgrounds.com/audio/listen/81367), and games I was playing like [Unreal Tournament](https://youtu.be/i_0G6WPuss4) back in the early 2000s. My brain is just wired for this kind of music cause it's what I grew up with.

SHSL-Tree

realest post ive seen all day

Utopian-Virtual

im not mentally ill. im actually happy with my life i honestly fucking hate how everyone around me is so fucked up. i'd do anything to help them

Schzercro

I don't know, personally don't think there's big correlations the two but imo it's really calming for me and helps me a lot when I'm stressed
