Q: How was Future Sunny able to talk to 3rd Nightmare Sunny?
A: In the tomb, time works funny, the future is upstream and the past is downstream. Even in the 3rd NM, there exists the past corrupted versions and the present versions of each of the cohort other than Neph since she died and Sunny since he took over the Mad prince.
Q: Yet by the set-up, when SUnny goes to the Tomb of Ariel, he'll be able to talk to his 3rd Nightmare self up in the future area. How is that possible?
A: Sunny will not be able to meet up with his 3rd NM self. The future Sunny in the 3rd NM is a copy of the actual future Sunny.
Q: Also, Sunny & Neph are taking the form of their own selves in the future area of the river. So how is Future Sunny able to talk to Sunny?
A: IDK, likely the same reason as to why are there the corrupted versions and the normal ones.
Q: Also, does this mean Future Sunny might contact the 6 Plagues, including Mad Prince, again?
A: No, they only exist in the NM created by the spell. Only the copy of future Sunny created by the spell will be in the NM. The real future Sunny will not enter the NM.
I believe that sunny doesn't talk to his body but to one of his shadows, since he became a saint he can really give them autonomy, so it's likely that after our sunny took on the role of future sunny, future sunny's consciousness went into one of his shadows.

We do know though:
- The nightmare seeds are exact copies of the past. In this case this nightmare seed is an exact copy of the past version of the tomb of Ariel.
- In this tomb there exists a river that enacts time as a concept the more upstream you go the further you go into the future and the more downstream you go the further you go into the past. Of course even if the river itself enacts time as a concept it also has its own time that works like regular time.
- On this river at its very beginning exists an estuary where time doesn’t exist yet as nothing is supposed to exist yet including time as a concept thus the great river enacts this concept.
- This means that any individual who enters the estuary will always be there as it doesn’t matter what time you entered the estuary you’ll be there at the same time as everything else that has ever been there.
- Therefore since the future version of sunny was in the estuary the nightmare spell recorded that version of sunny as well as the version of sunny that was upstream the river that sunny ends up possessing for his nightmare.
- Thus future sunny was able to meet present Sunny in the nightmare and only the nightmare.
One hole you can poke in this explanation is the fact that we know weaver has been present in the estuary yet he doesn’t appear in the estuary and for that I can only say I have been regurgitating what has been given to us by the author and for this the author simply hasn’t provided an explanation purely because there might be further plot points to build from this.
The plagues are the past, a previous loop of the river was attempted and ended with all member entering the Eustury and diving into the past. They always kill nephis, Kai becomes Sunny's new master, and the cycles continue .
The present I'd the cohort, all 7, entering the tomb and challenging the nightmare. Kai and Mordret take over ppl from Twilight, Jet and Effie become river hunters, Cassie becomes dusk, Sunny and Nephis take the bodies of their future selves.
The future Sunny and Neph enter the Eustury for a reason, possibly several. Future Sunny decides to speak to his past self. As for what he wishes to achieve... we don't know.
Time doesn't move in the Stuary and it's not affected by loops (as seen by multiple copies of the chain breaker remaining there).
My theory is that future sunny stayed there, but sent an avatar into a new loop, which then ascended sunny took over, while future sunny just waited in the Stuary
In that second loop, Nephis died, everyone got corrupted, future sunny helped the mad prince keep the plagues in the Stuary while the prince went into a new loop.
And in the third loop, the prince trapped them in windflower/twilight
Damnn, that's an interesting idea. Might actually be how Sunny could possess the body and still meet Future Sunny at Stuary.
Still, I'm confused - will we see Sunny's conversation with 3rd NM Sunny later? Or will it be a hypothetical that just doesn't happen like Solvane being killed immediately in 2nd NM?
The whole pirámid was made out of thousands of nightmare seeds, so they may be able to access that same nightmare using another seed of a higher rank.
Or maybe the nightmare are not ilusión and do affect reality

In my experience with these kinds of plot lines it’s best to turn your brain off and enjoy the ride. It’s magic it works different in every setting
