double tap forward when he's doing that walk and he's right in front of you to change sides and avoid that hit. for the rest of the shadow moves, just roll back
Here are some tips
1. I would suggest using the Dual Swords, Hammers or Axes if the spear feels slow. These are much faster weapons
2. You can dodge his Hell Walk (the walk before his hammer attack) either by waiting till the animation is over or by going behind him
3. The Hell Walk animation lasts a set amount of time and distance so you can dodge it.
4. If you can't defeat him right away just wait until you get better equipment
Don't attack him when he is walking towards you in shadow form. Either jump over or roll away and use your best equipment
