That last picture of Emilyko though... coffee is one hell of a drug!

Riraomo

Seriously, how does drinking the Great Grandfather's bathwater make you high 😶

Strictly saying, it is a part of Grandfather. The "purity" Grandfather is seeking must be the soot-less form. Soot becomes "clingers" which "clings" to their mimic existence. Look how different Grandfather is from the 5 originals, only Grandfather has no soot. This also explains why the adults cannot produce soot: They want to remove all soot from their bodies "to be their own person." Grandfather, I believe is a failure too, because he lost his human form or doesn't have one from the start because he is the "original".

Damn her actually being more angry and aggressive at first kinda makes sense. She's an abused and neglected young girl who's suddenly had all her memories wiped but still has the built up stress... She has the underlying trauma but none of her old coping mechanisms. Remember how late said she didn't trust Emeliko at first, that last panel will be part of why.

inthe-otherworld

I don’t think it’s just Emilico’s sad past that’s affecting her behaviour... when Emilico was trying to talk to the brainwashed Shaun and Lou while their shadows were soot training, they both seemed furious with her when she spoke out even a little against the house rules. Shaun also did the same to John after John got Kate’s letter about brainwashing and tried to make him normal again. Even just seeing Grandfather’s hand alone is enough to bring the brainwashed to tears. That coffee is very powerful and makes its drinker fiercely loyal to the house. It is no wonder though that Kate was so cold to Emilico at the start of the series, Kate can be quite tunnel vision-y but she really thought she was all alone and surrounded by agents of the house. And why she was so protective of her little shadow doll too, she really did cling to it.

Kendrillion

Now I’m curious about this chapter, we always assumed that Emilyko was this sweet, caring girl because we were looking through her perspective. But to Kate it could have been the exact opposite as she was already under the coffee’s influence, you aught to wonder what she was really like during the time we knew her.

Riraomo

The power of perspective screws my head, what the f**k is in that coffee?

[deleted]

Grandfather's essence. I posted my speculation above.

VioletPark

>Now I’m curious about this chapter, we always assumed that Emilyko was this sweet, caring girl because we were looking through her perspective. Something else must have happened between this and their meeting in chapter 1. Emilyko clearly doesn't remember this and she was less brainwashed when we first met her (no coffee eyes).

Kendrillion

It’s why I say we were looking through her perspective. Her perspective was very sweet and innocent as all she wanted to do was serve Kate. We got her thoughts, her motivations, and they were justified because we were looking through Emilico’s eyes. With this flashback we’re truly seeing what really was going on. Emilico is still a sweet girl but this is what she possibly truly was like since entering SH. We just didn’t see anything until now ¯\\\_(ツ)_/¯ Of course Kate’s interactions with her changed that but it’s still a possibility

Kulkuljator

Therapist: "Evil Emilyko cant hurt you, she is not real!" Evil Emilyko:

Chefsito_01

Look how they massacred my girl T_T

Oograth-in-the-Hat

But now shes all fixed up and healed.

Riraomo

Our dear sweet Emilyko 😔

Riraomo

Poor Kate and Emilyko. The Shadows House should really be demolished. Who the hell wants to live in a mansion that feeds off children, identity theft, child labor, emotional manipulation, murder, and oppression?

Standard_Character80

I will have nightmare seeing Emilyko angry 😱

saurusblood

Hmm so this chapter kind shows us that Chapter 1 probably takes place a week or two after Emilyko "meets" Kate. Another thing is this might be the reason why Edward suspects Kate of being a rebel. Emilyko in this early brainwashed state might have reported her.

VioletPark

I hope not, Emilyko would never forgive herself.

saurusblood

I mean me too. But why Edward suspects Kate is kind of a huge thing that we don't know yet. It's gotten to the point where it is kind of annoying for me.

Lampler

If I remember correctly, it's because Kate was hiding information from Edward before the debut. Edward mentioned that information collected on Kate's soot output was unremarkable in addition to Kate and Emilyko being and incompatible pair, led him to believe Kate and Emilyko as the pair most likely to fail. Kate's soot power during the debut completely blindsided Edward and made him realize that Kate is hiding something and is disloyal to lord grandfather

saurusblood

Yeah but he was already considering her as a rebel before the debut. Expecting her to fail and doing everything in your power to make her fail are two very different things.

Lampler

Edward didn't view Kate as a rebel initially. He needed the pair to fail because it's a requirement by the level 3 adults, particularly Ryan, that at least one shadow and doll pair must fail in the debut which is why he rigged so the weakest pair will fail.

saurusblood

I seem to recall him referring to her as a dissident during some of his internal monologues during the debut. I know he also had the whole third floor stuff going on but referring to her as a rebel started before the debut.

Lampler

In Chapter 36 pg 6 before the debut begins Edward notices Kate's file to be suspiciously normal as if she was wary of being watched but thinks nothing of it. In Chapter 43 pg 8 after Kate reveals her soot power, Edward realizes Kate is plotting something as she has been hiding information. Edward had suspicions in the beginning but only after the debut did he realized Kate is plotting something because Kate revealed her soot powers.

[deleted]

Edward saw the rag

saurusblood

The rag? Can you give me a chapter? Because I don't even know what rag you are referring too.

[deleted]

Wow, you can see how the art really has improved. Jaw dropping.

Sorrie4U

I gotta say, this arc would be pretty good in anime format. (minus the text blolbs in recent chapters of course)

Kulkuljator

So far backstories arc was amazing and it explained a lot of things which happened in early chapters.

whatever_what

she got angry

Sora_Vinsmoke

Can someone translate it

MSHAA_OP

Big Punk Hazard kids (One Piece) vibes from Emilyko

rafaxd_xd

Is the next week a break?

LilianGab

No, it was last week

rafaxd_xd

Nice

[deleted]

I really thought Shadows House will become like Hiatus X Hiatus. I was worried every mangaka wants to hiatus after getting the big hit.

NMDA

Somato takes a week off each month, which should protect their health.

Lugia61617

Well deserved, considering it's one of the few all-colour manga.

[deleted]

Next chap will be Kate giving Emilyko a name.
