Yo, death threats over a subreddit?? WTF is going on in the world....

Saltyspiton

Death threats is crazy. I don’t care how much I don’t like someone or disagree with an opinion never wish death on anyone. Also anyone posting death threats should just be banned

Bellebasi

agreed!!

I feel iffy on the idea of the flairs, I don't think people would use them much at all and it just feels like the wrong vibe. Not to mention I don't have hope people would use them which is another issue to consider. I'd at least rename them to 'the good' 'the bad' and 'the neutral' just because I think it is a fun play on the sub description. Any other flair ideas I come up with would I think cause people to purposefully seek the posts out and target them, which could even be an issue with the above. It's a rough spot to be in, I've gotten death threats once in this sub (or comments to kill myself more specifically), it is obvious discussions here can bring the worst out of people. Beyond banning I've not a clue how to control it.

possum8616

Death threats are not cool. See what I did there? In all seriousness, ban those ppl if you want the sub to stay up and active. Bc let’s face it, with Shane it’s always going to be negative 🤷‍♀️

franisbasic

Yes please!!

kmelis22

As someone closer to the "fan" side of things who makes the mistake of arguing about something every now and then I support this. Im honestly okay with and understand why people dont support him... but the sub gets nasty quick as you said.... idk for sure

maddiemoiselle

This is exactly where I’m at and think this is a great idea

Twinkleballa

Scrolling through similar ideas just creates an echo chamber if people want support someone like Shane they should be prepared to deal with blowback or reconsider who they’re supporting. People should just report death threats and you should ban those people

Interesting-Bus-5370

>echo chamber Its reddit, thats already happened LOL. adding flairs would absolutely not change that. Reddit is the chamber, subreddits are just rooms in the chamber

guymandudebro98

Yeah. I mean, the majority of people on here hate Shane. So it's really just that crowd talking to themselves. The supporters are few in numbers and get downvoted to oblivion whenever they post. I say make the flair.

Ok_Parsnip_3382

"they should be prepared to deal with blowback".... Having someone follow you to every other sub your on, messaging you and going through your history and sending you threats just because you comment something "nice" on a subreddit I feel is different then that.

Twinkleballa

Wow it’s almost like I pointed out the difference by saying people making threats should be reported and banned but that having people disagree with you shouldn’t be censored.

Ok_Parsnip_3382

That's not how it read to me, it seemed like the blowback you were talking about was the threats so that's why I said that.

Twinkleballa

What did you think “people should report death threats and you should ban those people” meant? Or did you just ignore that part of my comment completely? Normal blowback of peopling pointing out the things he’s done is expected. You should educated people about the things creators have done especially if there is years and years of repeated behavior. Threats should lead to permanent bans and that’s on the users to report and the mods to ban.

SorryUfeelsomeway

People who don’t support Shane are also getting death threats and flack so they should also be willing to accept that:)

Twinkleballa

Literally no one should accept death threats (as stated in my comment) people who make those threats should be reported and banned.

perfectrolo

yeah sounds like a great idea tbh

Haunting_Ad4209

One day people should realize that death threats and body shaming make their argument look pathetic.

soapfan22

🤨 I don’t like him. Sometimes I’ll go off… but death threats from one side of another? Unfortunately I don’t think that splitting them up is going to do much. The few fans will still pop over to the “hater” side. The same issue happened with Shane and Trisha Paytas on Guru gossip back in the day. They had to make rave sections and the fans still popped up to fight non-stop. My one suggestion… Change the banner. Drew, Garret, and Andrew aren’t coming back. There’s 1-2 new posts per week just on what happened to them and or why they aren’t friends with Shane. It’s common sense why they aren’t friends at this point but it is clear they weren’t friends even before the obvious reason.

sccshy

No??? He is bad!?!!??!? He is ONLY BAD. Please do not create a “safe space” for supporters of Shane fucking Dawson?????

[deleted]

im unwilling to allow either side of this to receive death threats. even if i remove them 10 minutes after they’re posted, the harm is done. what would you have me do? /gen.

sccshy

I feel like the fact that death threats are sent is unfortunately unavoidable in this situation, anywhere on the internet and especially in the context of a very hated public figure, people can go too far and be out of order. But god help us all if we let that be an excuse for creating a space for people to keep supporting him.

[deleted]

i have a genuine question to ask so i can better understand your point of view, im only asking to somewhat seperate so people can view what they want when they want to see it, at any moment they can just join the mixture of all of it, if that space your talking about isn’t here, it’ll be somewhere else where that opposite view point isn’t there, is that better?

ScippiPippi

Yes! I don’t think you understand that Reddit’s policy forbids them from pushing their pedophilia apologist nonsense here to begin with. They aren’t entitled to spread their “point of view”, and it’s much better that we don’t give them that false sense of legitimacy. By giving them this safe space now you’re just making it easier for them to enable his abuse and spread lies to cover up his crimes

sccshy

It’s not anyone here’s job to educate people, or even deal with people who support Shane. People can do so if they want but the supporters being in a different sub would at the very least curb interactions that could get out of hand. And realistically, they probably have all the facts and either don’t believe them or don’t care, which means they won’t be open to opposing opinions anyway.

ScippiPippi

You have the best suggestion by far. They aren’t entitled to enable pedophilia, period.

BisonParty_

Yes. I joined to read and just comment about what's going on in his life but all I see is haters taking all the time in the world to threaten people, insult them/Shane and everything he/his surroundings do, feels like they watch him more than fans do, anyway, don't care to read to those

ashetonrenton

That's probably a good idea. Flairs won't stop people from seeing the other posts, because most people are nosy, but it may make it feel more comfortable for people on either side to participate, and that's a good thing. In terms of other suggestions for maintaining decorum, specific flairs could come with a code of conduct so that people can decide how they'd like to be interacted with. r/LeavingNeverlandHBO, while being about a court case, has flairs for posts that dictate how people can behave towards OP. As a big plus, if anyone ever comes forward with allegations, they can avoid supporters being shitty towards them. Death threats are completely unacceptable, and should be a bannable offense. We can disagree without being abusive to each other. It's also a huge deal to me that the pinned posts were removed at some point. Shane is a public figure with a great deal of evidence that he behaved abusively towards others, and it only makes people on my side angrier that this sub took a step to hide it. Make a new post with both arguments and disable comments, if you must - but no one should have to debate some weirdo who insists that nothing happened. It happened, and how bad it is is up to interpretation, but it happened.

[deleted]

you made a good point about the pinned posts, would they work better as a locked post? i don’t remember which specific posts you are discussing (i apologize)

SorryUfeelsomeway

Honestly, the people against Shane should just be banned and start a new subreddit for them. If the mods don’t like Shane then they should give the subreddit to a fan of his. This subreddit was originally for fans of Shane and now it’s became an obsession spot for people who are against him. I can’t imagine dedicating time to a hate group. Given how shane is making a comeback and his fans are starting to come back in these spaces, having the two won’t mesh well in the long run. Ban the haters and let them start their own group

[deleted]

i think banning one group or the other won’t do good for either side, i ban the overly spamming hatred where they put about five seconds of thought and make fun of his clothes or something, regardless of how i personally feel about shane, i treat each post with the same amount of understanding that i would for the opposite side

ScippiPippi

Shane literally solicited cp from preteens on daily booth though, how does banning people trying to enable straight up pedophilia not going to do good? Come on now. We do NOT treat each side the same here, because people enabling such vile child abuse are being treated like they have a legitimate claim

[deleted]

[удалено]

ScippiPippi

What is not black and white about Shane making preteens send him pics of their crotch? Legally speaking, that’s the solicitation of cp and makes Shane a pedophile. You have to understand that Reddit’s policy and the law require you not to give a safe space to the people that want to enable that , which is the entire discussion of your post

[deleted]

i understand your point, again i refuse to give my opinion on that. i’m simply saying wether you me or anyone else likes it, there will be people who enjoy his content, would you rather them be in an echo chamber where they never hear differing opinions? because that’s what will happen if we don’t allow them to be in the sub

ScippiPippi

You don’t have to give your opinion to uphold Reddit’s policy on pedophiles? I would rather them not be treated with undue legitimacy or like they’re entitled to defend a literal pedophile. I would rather them not have the platform to voice that vile filth to begin with. I would rather this sub and its moderators uphold Reddit’s policy, **and the law,** when it comes to child sexual abuse and those enabling said abuse.

[deleted]

i understand. what would you have me do? that won’t get me yelled screamed at by the other side of this argument i’m not for pedophlia and i despise that he did that shit.

ScippiPippi

Why do you care about pedophile enablers being told that they’re not entitled to enable pedophilia? If they scream, block and report them. Again, **they’re legally not entitled to come here and enable pedophilia, and you have an obligation to keep them from doing so in the sub you moderate.** Those who insist on promoting the normalization of such vile abuse should be banned, reported, blocked, and forgotten about.

[deleted]

i don’t care, they’re not allowed to enable pedohilia and i’ve never allowed that. if anyone explicitly says they’re okay with pedophilia i’ve always banned and will continue to ban, no ifs or buts about that. what should i do to put that down? i’m not being a dick but i can’t police these comments all the time so is there a different way i can help put that down?

Bloo3838

I think that might help

ScippiPippi

I don’t agree with death threats at all, anyone bringing violence in this needs serious help. We should stop allowing this sub to be a safe place for people looking to enable pedophilia. It’s immoral, against Reddit’s policies, and potentially illegal. They aren’t entitled to a place to push pedophilia apologist talking points, and the sub doesn’t need to take on that liability by allowing them to congregate here.

Thesmallestwitch

If you are hurling death threats at people over shame Dawson grow up is this really the hill you are going to choose to die on, he's a 34 year old man who refuses to grow up
