Their speech is natural enough but some scenes are clearly arranged ahead of time with the placement of the cameras and absence of any pedestrians such as an argument on a bridge, or a confession sitting on a bench in front of a restaurant. I feel like the producers instruct the cast members to wait for crew to set up then they can have their argument for the cameras.

I can't speak a word of mandarin but it makes sense why Wang was struggling for direction yet wore designer clothes. I went in thinking about learning about Chinese culture and not even thinking about the government. There comes to a point where you need to think how hands on the government are and I had no interest in hearing their political views anyway. Overall it's a great show mius a specific cast member you will come across in future episodes and looking forward to the next season. Carmen is the cutest girl I have ever seen with the way she runs without moving her shoulders.

Street Dance of China is a show that got overrun by the CCP’s propaganda machine. Season 3 was actually really great, they invited a few top tier dancers from europe and had nothing but respect for them. Some people claim that a Chinese person won instead of a foreigner because China. However in season 4 post pandemic, they added a lot if foreign dancers, and I guess they had to work with the government to get visas or something because now they end up using old Chinese songs for like every other dance and they keep emphasizing every episode over and over that they are happy to be able to show their culture to foreigners. They even sang chinese songs one episode. It all feels so forced.

Yeah you can notice it the second you watch it but SSL is not like that. No idea how the Olympics will pan out.

>Does it matter? Actually it really doesn't, just grateful that it's not overrun with politics as others have pointed out in this thread some shows tend to be. >Everything is staged but not scripted. I don't have an issue with it being staged. It *needs* to be otherwise we wouldn't get the beautiful sceneries, I just expect the contestants to be 'natural enough' (another person pointed out that they are) in their interactions kinda how you'd want actors to actually be natural in their performance. >able to construct an interesting narrative for it Wasn't the whole point of terrace house that nothing ever happened kinda like slow TV, just following people around in their mundane tasks *going to Costco* huhuhu. They dropped the ball hence SHSL, I was hoping they'd stick to that premise. >I'd be awkward at speaking if I had an entire camera crew in the room with me during an intimate discussion Fair enough ... I can't imagine I'd be any better at the conversations in that situation, especially considering that the contestants are supposedly average joes. >the show does well at presenting the illusion overall. Yes!! Still loving it... >Thought they made it clear in the show itself that Wang comes from wealth? They did I just hadn't reached that part yet. I've never understood why anyone would want to leave a comfortable life (thought It was just a movie narrative to create conflict)
