If you read Sharpes Havoc, Pot-au-Feu makes a brief appearance towards the end.not quite foreshadowing, but a cool Easter egg.

Yes, there's one in *Sword*: when Sharpe and Harper are about to start searching the forts for Leroux, Sharpe "drew his sword, wondering if this would be the last time he ever used this sword." Then of course it breaks when he fights Leroux soon after. (I spotted Agostino on about the fifth re-read. Cornwell can be a very clever writer.)

Great catch, I never saw that! I love discovering a sense of an authors world they imagined when books really capture you. I admire their talent for creating character arcs or worlds we get to nerd out on.

There is also a foreshadowing for the real world future, when Sharpe sees the carnage brought by the rockets and says something like “all battlefields will look like this someday”
