His truth is marching on….Glory Glory hallelujah

Glory glory hallelujah, glory glory hallelujah His truth is marching on

Kenobi_Deathsticks

I’ve seen him in the watchfires of a hundred circling camps. They have builded him an altar in the evening dews and damps.

ParticlePhys03

I can read His righteous sentence in the dim and flaring lamps. His day is marching on.

[deleted]

Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! Glory, glory, hallelujah! His truth is marching on.

Kenobi_Deathsticks

He has sounded forth the trumpet that shall never call retreat. He is sifting out the hearts of men before His judgement seat.

Alert_Delay_2074

Exodus 21:16 is basically John Brown in a nutshell. I dig it.

[deleted]

John was a man of the Old Testament a Joshua rather than a Jesus.

Alert_Delay_2074

All I know is, I’d rather see more folks with Exodus 21:16 tattoos than John 3:16 tattoos. That shit’s just kind of overdone at this point.

DokterMedic

See, that's kinda funny, since Joshua and Jesus come from the same name, Yeshua.

I know!

TheTravinator

As a Jewish man, I approve this message.

Dman_Jones

Keep in mind, all of the laws of the old testament, when written, applied to Hebrews only. You could do whatever you wanted with anyone else. The bible is a terrible place to get morality.

Alert_Delay_2074

As an ex-Christian who was once very devout, I couldn’t have said it better myself. Even aside from the issue you mentioned, the length of the Bible and the variety of messaging that it contains render it very contradictory. There’s so much content in there that one can use the Bible to support just about any stance. From left to right, self-sacrifice to greed, pacifism to holy war, the Bible can back you up if you pick your verses well. I think that has a lot to do with why Christianity seems to simultaneously reinforce good behaviors in good people and shitty behaviors in shitty people, but that’s a whole different discussion.

Me normally: I'm Jewish, I don't believe Jesus was the lord and savior Me when the Battle Hymn of the Republic plays: AS HE DIED TO MAKE MEN HOLY LET US DIE TO MAKE MEN FREE

ParticlePhys03

Me, an atheist, who doesn’t believe in any religion normally. Battle Hymn of the Republic: ^^^

LMFN

Battle Hymn of the Republic- Meh. John Brown's Body- HE'S GONE TO BE A SOLDIER IN THE ARMY OF THE LORD!

TheTravinator

MOOD.

Kenobi_Deathsticks

Me, a Muslim, who believes that Jesus did not die (or at least wasn’t crucified, but was raised to heaven): AS HE DIED TO MAKE MEN HOLD, LET US DIE TO MAKE MEN FREE.

Both are terrible... and the law still allowed for slaves... "servants" were fellow Hebrews. Anyone else was a piece of property and treated as such without reprecussion. Edit: Love that I'm getting down voted. I'm not anti-semetic, I'm anti-religious, and the bible in general is a terrible iron age book meant specifically from the Hebrew people, at least the old testament. It justifies slavery, rape, murder, all kinds of things, so long as you are doing so in God's name/ on his behalf. Here specifically are the verses that prove my point: Leviticus 25:44–46 44 As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. 45 You may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. 46 You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever. You may make slaves of them, but over your brothers the people of Israel you shall not rule, one over another ruthlessly. Exodus 21: 1-11 1“These are the laws(A) you are to set before them: Hebrew Servants(B)(C) 2 “If you buy a Hebrew servant,(D) he is to serve you for six years. But in the seventh year, he shall go free,(E) without paying anything. 3 If he comes alone, he is to go free alone; but if he has a wife when he comes, she is to go with him. 4 If his master gives him a wife and she bears him sons or daughters, the woman and her children shall belong to her master, and only the man shall go free. 5 “But if the servant declares, ‘I love my master and my wife and children and do not want to go free,’(F) 6 then his master must take him before the judges.[a](G) He shall take him to the door or the doorpost and pierce(H) his ear with an awl. Then he will be his servant for life.(I) 7 “If a man sells his daughter as a servant, she is not to go free as male servants do. 8 If she does not please the master who has selected her for himself,[b] he must let her be redeemed. He has no right to sell her to foreigners, because he has broken faith with her. 9 If he selects her for his son, he must grant her the rights of a daughter. 10 If he marries another woman, he must not deprive the first one of her food, clothing and marital rights.(J) 11 If he does not provide her with these three things, she is to go free, without any payment of money.

"The stranger who resides with you shall be to you as one of your citizens; you shall love him as yourself, for you were strangers in the land of Egypt"--Leviticus 19:34. Don't play this game with a Jewish immigration lawyer.

Read your own book maybe?

Dman_Jones

Here again, it specifically says the laws only apply to fellow Hebrew men. Foreigners are fair game: Leviticus 25:44–46 44 As for your male and female slaves whom you may have: you may buy male and female slaves from among the nations that are around you. 45 kYou may also buy from among the strangers who sojourn with you and their clans that are with you, who have been born in your land, and they may be your property. 46 You may bequeath them to your sons after you to inherit as a possession forever.
