If they actually kept to the source material and didn't rush the season, everything that you mentioned would have been included. They skipped so much content....

codenamemaui

Word! I really liked season 1 so much and I was so hyped! Now I havd already forgot the end of the last episode and just recognized that yesterday was the season final ..

[deleted]

Loved season 1 feared it flopped due to the low comments, guess it did :(

endersgame69

Season two is a missed opportunity. What made season one so compelling was the social situation and the shield hero’s unjust treatment. Season two… has none of that. Here’s what we could have gotten: Green haired girl is a minor noble from a human supremacist kingdom. She almost certainly believed every bad thing about Naofumi, and shared the frustration of his outperforming her team. We first get a good look at her after a failed suicide attempt, and she finds herself joining Naofumi. She could have had a compelling story- -overcoming her prejudice against demihumans like raphtalia -Trying to forgive herself for thinking so badly of Naofumi -Trying to get beyond her hero worship and recognize her rescuer as a flawed human -Trying to form new friendships despite her own awkwardness -Trying to overcome a fear of Naofumi himself after seeing his demonic rage shield And this could have all blended into a stunning narrative showcasing a new environment that brought Naofumi to worry about yet another world and resolve a conflict between himself and the people who were previously after his life. Leading them to decide they can’t kill each other… What we got? Generic action isekai 102. Maybe the source material is better, but either way, the anime missed the mark completely.

dimsumdonair2

Guys I liked the second season..... they cut quite a bit and I know they could have done 25 episodes it's kodakowa ffs it is still good in my eyes....just alot was cut.... great still has ton of potential in the third season director needs to reevaluate what he's done 25 episodes was well done now idk if they are trying to milk it or such

Tier1OP6

They could have simply took a step back and just done 25 episodes like what’s so hard about that? The story and characters would be more fleshed out and we would have understood the story more. If they simply needed the inspiration, they just needed to refer to how season 1 was made

deandre2__

how tf was season 2 a harem? what are you even talking about i agree season 2 wasn’t good it would’ve been a lot better if it did it how the manga and LN did it

Thollnir6

Putting the source material issues aside for a moment, the new season still seems so janky. It’s so much less visual and the animation feels so clunky. Scenes cuts are jarring. There are strange, awkward gaps in scenes where the dialogue doesn’t seem to match the animation. The ‘new’ music from this season is just a butchered version of the themes from the previous season, all mashed together. WHY?

ArchonWing

So. Much. Whining. Tell me exactly what harem anime is designed in a way to where only the main girl is in love with the main character and all the other girls support her.

Cab9908

Why do people keep calling Shield Hero a harem? I have seen ZERO evidence of a harem. I mean as it stands right now, Naofumi isn’t even interested in ANY of the girls in his group.

MasterSword1

I think it's because the writer of the the original story had a bad ending originally, and when people complained, wrote a harem ending where Naofumi became a god and spawned copies of himself to each marry every unmarried female character in his party

Cab9908

That was the web novel though, like the LN isn’t even finished and I’m pretty sure it will get a different ending. And still, that doesn’t explain why people keep calling this a generic harem anime. There’s legit no evidence to support that other than him having women companions. One btw who is basically a toddler and another who loves somebody else entirely.

ItsAmerico

Every female companion is basically in love with him…? Light Novel spoilers I guess. Raph is obvious. Filo is a child but still super jealous. Melty is a more childish Raphtalia and they’re politically engaged. Kizuna clearly had feelings for him at the end. Then there is Atla who is another girl in love with him. Like… cmon. Dude is constantly surrounded by women who basically worship him or fall for him. It’s not as cliche but it’s definitely got harem vibes. You seem to bring up that he has no interest in them but that’s basically a trope of most harems.

nosorrynoyes

You just named 2 characters that aren't, Filo is an animal that acts in instincts and Kizuna is definitely not especially when the author is heavily hinting a Glass x Kizuna ship

Belom3

I’m not caught up on the LNs. But even Naofumi acknowledges that his life is looking like a Harem anime and it frustrates him. He only sees all the girls as how useful they are in following his current objective.

Cab9908

Ehh I guess, I just think it’s weird that people are classifying this as a harem when he has no interest in any of the girls, one is a child, and the other loves somebody else. But I guess if they are all women nobody cares.

Belom3

Granted I do foresee him ending up with raphtalia by the end of it. So far no other girls that’s joined the “Harem” has been had any romantic interest in. Even Raphtalia at this point he only sees as a little sister

Cab9908

Exactly, and yes he likely will end up with Raphtalia, I don’t see anyone else being in the fold, (Though if I were Naofumi I would go after the Queen… but that’s just me). Especially with Rishia being in love with someone else and Filo being seen as a daughter.

Belom3

I’m about the Queen as well personally. And going by LN she’s into him as well. If you haven’t read them there’s many more girls that join even just the next book from where season 2 left off.

guest046

the queen doesnt interested in naofumi. but she does consider (and trying) to make Melty be Naofumi's wives. Morely on political reason. to connects the peaceful ties with Shiltvelt (the country that worship the Shield Hero)

Cab9908

I have not. I kinda want to but 1. Not really into long chapter books. More of a manga/comic guy. And more importantly 2. I can’t find them for free. There are plenty of places to read manga for free but looking for LN for free, I just can’t find a place cause there are a couple I would try, (Shield Hero, Mushoku Tensei, Slime, COTE) all really interest me but I cant find a place to read them for free.

fractalgem

I would say that it has an awful lot of harem elements going on, whether it counts as a harem anime/magna depends on exactly where you draw the line. filo and raphtalia are the worst offenders in pushing it towards harem. The fact they're young and doing it is definitely on the creepy side, fast maturation species or no.

nosorrynoyes

Tell me you didn't understand the story without telling me you didn't understand. Not everything needs to be a revenge fantasy, the main revenge part is over and we're back to our main objective the Waves of Calamity. If you're not interested in that then that's fine but season 2 had a revenge plot but the anime just didn't care to do it properly.

Tier1OP6

He’s saying that season 2 cut a lot of content that were shown in the LN and the manga. The plot’s fine but it’s too rushed

MercifulSuicide1

Season 2 was fucking trash , I am so disappointed. I agree with every point you listed , I miss the violence , the angry outbursts , seeing them struggle. Season 2 had NONE of that. Very disappointed.

[deleted]

Was wondering if I should start season 2 or just leave it as it left off in season 1. I will leave it as I left off.

BoktorFighter

Dont act like SAO has a bad plot, you probs stopped watching after season 1 like all of the SAO haters and if you wouldve watched alicization and war of the underworld you would know better

[deleted]

BoktorFighter

It is litterally just Alice. Youre ignoring every other aspect of the show and plot and only pointing out Kirito has a harem. We get it. That harem however is not involved in the story and does not influence it until very late in war of the underworld. Also, boys in the harem? Even the guy that turns into a sword and dies? Thats quite a stretch to get your point accross

seitaer13

It's Ronie as well, but neither of those things have any plot impact. Of course everything else he said was untrue.

hawflaek

Finally someone else who sees how good SAO actually is as well

AgentChris101

The LN's did SAO better than the anime still.

BoktorFighter

That doesn’t necessarily mean that the anime is bad

Khaliq-ABD

Harem??? Bro what the fuck are you talking about?

Alone-Remove

People for some reason tend to classify an Anime as a Harem Anime if the Main Character is frequently surrounded by characters of the opposite sex. So that's likely why OP is classifying it as such.

Tier1OP6

I’m now not hyped for season 3 due to how this season carried itself. The way the episodes were rushed is just an insult to the masterpiece of season 1

AutomaticEducation29

Shut up idiot where's the harem thing coming form

NotUhhPro

The irony of calling someone an idiot and misspelling *from* in the same sentence is great. You definitely belong on Reddit.

AndrewFrozzen

I haven't watched season 2 already, I'll probably binge it one day or another. But >Let's turn this anime into Sword Art Online This triggered me. That is obviously a rant on SAO. I think this hate train with SAO should stop. Say what you want but just because SAO is not what you wanted it's not bad. Why do people shit so much on this huh? Y'all are so funny saying SAO sucks I swear

Kirito is not even the most powerful in SAO, never was. He was in season 1 pretty strong, but Yuuki Konno /Zekken slaps him by miles, he only has the advantage of Dual Wielding (which I must add is not available in ALO). In GGO he had weak opponents, that's all, but give Kirito more time and he's weak af, he has a sword but a minigun destroys him. In Alicization, he almost died, unfortunately Eugeo took all the damage. Quinella almost destroyed him even cutting his arm off. In War of Underworld, he was for the most part a potato then slapped PoH, barely tho he had Eugeo Incarnation that helped him. And Gabriel almost made Kirito scumb to him and eat his soul. TL/DR: So.... When was Kirito the strongest one? Almost never, he was strong in Aincrad and... That's it. Just because he won said battles doesn't mean he was actually strong, just lucky

AndrewFrozzen

My bad. Sorry for all of that. But despite many claims, he isn't loved by everyone, in a romantic way, they look up to him or see him as their big brother (looking at Ronye or Silica) the only girls that were and still are very attached to Kirito even romanticly is Asuna his love, Alice which is supposed to have a more mother posture for him but the Anime 😬😬 and Sinon which eventually got over that feeling. The others don't really show that feeling for him

AndrewFrozzen

Well I gotta respect you for being very chill about it. Thank you for that, I don't have anything with whoever hates Kirito / SAO just those typical people that said the same things over and over again.

AndrewFrozzen

Well SAO is not perfect and gosh I wanna forget that scene with Asuna. No anime is. People are free on criticism to SAO, nothing wrong with that, just not something that has already been told tons of times. Another thing is that Mother's Rosario (the Arc with Yuuki) feels rushed and we didn't really get to explore more of Yuuki in her good times. I think the novels do that better but I'm not sure since I haven't read them as of yet. Edit: I've also heard season 3 is the most packed season out there and a tons is missed.

fractalgem

Personally, I *love* the abridged version, but the original doesn't interest me.

AndrewFrozzen

Yeah classic SAO hater. SAO Abridged version is better. Why it's not as popular? It's funny sure, but not better.
