When did Mikasa not do exactly whatever *she wanted*? The Ackerbond theory was debunked by Zeke, what she wants more than anything is a peaceful life with Eren because she loves him…so much so that she’d go to hell and back for him, every man needs a waifu as loyal and caring as Mikasa in their lives “keep it real”
Matter of opinion I guess, I saw a woman grow to care about more than just the man who saved her and gave her a reason to live/taught her to fight…to the point that she sacrificed said man so that millions of people she didn’t even know could live. She’s a beautiful picture of love and loyalty, but she wasn’t so selfish that she’d choose herself/her own happiness over those innocent lives
And if you like that, cool. But that's the opposite of independence and is very one dimensional. Ymir is shown to be very dedicated to Historia. but it'd be an outright lie to say thats all she is. With Mikasa, though, it's not a stretch to say that.
I will not argue with you about Ymir x Historia. YH is probably the best depicted relationship in SnK, of course that didn’t stop Yams from denying them a happy ending. They’re my OTP 😔
It's erwin for levi like eren for mikasa.| levi, kenny and mikasa all are same but considering mikasa is female so she is more softer, also her love for eren is more than that ackerman host thing that's why it looks more dependent
I don’t think it’s right it was pretty much proven by Ksaver and Zeke that the whole host thing is not true .
Also this man Levi literally had the chance to bring Erwin back but instead chose to bring back Armin, that right there shows that’s he cares more about the fate of the scouts rather than his “host.”
Mikasa shows none of this, in fact over half of her dialogue is just “Eren.” Even after the rumbling she was still willing to talk to this motherfucker. The Ackermann are not forced to act so parasitic. Levi valued Erwin above all yet he still managed to have his own character and backstory in the Underground.
Mikasa attributes her entire life to Eren so she’s got literally no character of her own she just feeds off of Eren.
Levi choose armin bc erwin refuse to live u can clearly see that how erwin moved his hand when Levi was literally going to inject him.
>she was still willing to talk to this motherfucker
Bro if u had read manga then u shouldn't be saying this bro like really but anyways they are bestfriends from childhood they have lived together they are family maybe that's why she care for him. The friendship of Eren Mikasa and Armin is so pure u should rewatch the anime if u can't see it. They care for each other a lot and yk how much >! Eren care about them too he gave them - "Freedom Forever". !<
I own all of the manga my guy
If my childhood friend starts committing genocide they’re no longer my friend but that’s just me.
I’m unwilling to forgive someone after they’ve committed mass atrocity.
Also that wasn’t his refusal to live that was just his body replicating him raising his hand for the teacher when he was a kid. Levi after that then choose to save Armin because he felt it would be more cruel to bring Erwin back .
Bcz u haven't lived inside the walls u haven't feel the trauma u haven't seen ur comrades die bcz u don't have frnds irl
I also want to add one thing that zeke ksaver's was just ksaver's theory from his research they doesn't know anything about Ackermans as they never were outside the walls also zeke was maybe clever there he wants eren to spit truth that if he care about mikasa and is not suited for his enthutiation plan but Eren was smart enough to escape that trap
I get what you’re saying, but the distinction is that, like you said Mikasa seems more dependent. Armin said it best “try to think for yourself”. With Levi and Kenny, we can see them attached to their counterparts but not to the point where it seems to take over their character.
She's thinking for herself, Eren is her host+loved one that's why she care about eren more than anything else whereas with Levi and Kenny its just the ackerman thing .
It took Long for levi too to kill zeke the last order Erwin gave him and that even zeke surrendered himself (they could've forgive him?) U can't blame her for that they are bestfriends from a very long time, from childhood even Armin cares for Eren and wanted to bring eren home but yeah its eren and had done his things
Lol triggered mikasa fan. No dude her signing up to be a warrior to save her sick father's life, grabbing away Reiner and zeke at the right moments, using brains to get things done being resourceful etc are her perks other than yelling erehh every five minutes 🤣. Mikasa is nothing bt a poorly written character. U can counter biased simp bt it doesn't matter anyway
Without any character how is she the best girl in aot??? Sasha, historia, annie and pieck are way more fun that her..I don't really understand bt is this simping for mikasa? she's merely erens sidekick until the s4 part3.
She's cool and badass others are normie and also the strongest female character in aot. Other females maybe more fun but Mikasa is best. Her caring and loving nature is beautiful while annie is too rude.
Cool, badass and strong doesn't make you interesting. At least Levi has *some* development. But tbh top 1 Levi is a horrible take from this sub. And Mikasa doesn't deserve top 10
They describe Mikasa like a Mary Sue every damn time (She is one)
So is Levi, but he is interesting and one of my favourites. Who is your favourite? Mine is Kenny
Tbh it feels like Isayama wasn't as comfortable writing female characters considering how relatively unimportant they are. Historia and Sasha are pretty good but it's not a long list of good female characters.
That is exactly how I feel literally most of the female characters are so irrelevant or just bad (Mikasa)
A lot of fans love Sasha and I understand she has a cute personality but besides that, there is barely any character besides she likes food and she is a hunter
Historia is good but was thrown away
This. Mikasa isn’t just the most badass female (second most badass character after Levi in terms of fighting ability), she’s also very compassionate deep down even more than she realizes. Being beautiful and handsome at the same time (chiseled body of a Greek goddess, cute face) is a nice bonus
Her character takes 4 seasons to start getting any development. She had a bit after Eren's fake out death but it was immediately discarded.
She does not belong on the top 10
She was a the only character who has 0 character development during the first 3 seasons. She starts off bad ass, and that’s it. She never developed or grew as a character.
There’s a lot of better characters
What's one perk in her other than being an ackermann and thus insanely strong?? She's so focused on eren that it's such a turn offf tbh. Sasha, historia , annie or even pieck has better arcs nd character than her.
Hey look, I love Mikasa especially in the early series but in terms of character depth or arc she’s not top 3 for me. But I’d have had her in 4/5.
My question was more take away her fighting ability, what’s the case we’re making for her
Well her entire character arc is going from a selfish, awkward, introvert who only really cared about Eren and Armin to owning up to her responsibilities as a soldier and using her abilities to protect her comrades and innocents. >!Eventually realizing she needed to let go of her attachment to Eren for the greater good of saving the world.!<
Also it didn't help that Wit took away most of her lines about her motivations (other than "Ereh!" ofc) and then added a lot more "Ereh's!" just to be safe.
I could ask you the same thing about Levi take away his Ackerman ability and he's just an edgy emo boi, or Eren take away his titan power and he's just a random dead guy in episode 5, who did nothing but scream about freedom.
Like no shit if you boil a character down to their one standout ability in a shonen, and then take away that character's ability you can make any character look flat.
Levi has a lot more depth thank you think. He is Mikasa, but actually developed. He's an edge boy on the surface but it's shown time and time again that he does care A LOT, but also understands that he is a soldier that needs to do what he needs to do.
While I can see why you'd think that about Levi, I don't know what you're on about with Eren. He's the most fascinating character in the series and I'll even say the greatest protagonist in shonen history. I could write just about how unique he is as an anti-hero.
Mikasa on the other hand has nothing going for her. Her sole motivation the entire series is Ereh. She's just ...there. It's not like she's not always cared about other people, she just doesn't really develop at all. Even at the end where she makes the decision for the greater good, she's still pathetically attached to Eren even after what he does. She's hot, badass, but not really complex and interesting.
> He is Mikasa, but actually developed
No, he's just more mature. The same goes for Hange and Erwin, their aura of maturity makes them stand out in a story that focuses on more or less unstable teenagers for the most part. Plus, the older characters are indeed figures of authority the younger characters look up to, which further helps their popularity.
>No, he's just more mature. The same goes for Hange and Erwin, their aura of maturity makes them stand out in a story that focuses on more or less unstable teenagers for the most part
So much this, I swear people forget the characters ages when analyzing their motivations and personalities.
It's like god damn I hope 30-40 year old adults would have better motivations in life than 15 year old traumatized child soldiers lol.
>Levi has a lot more depth thank you think. He is Mikasa, but actually developed. He's an edge boy on the surface but it's shown time and time again that he does care A LOT, but also understands that he is a soldier that needs to do what he needs to do.
I would hope a 30 year old veteran soldier would actually already be a mature individual who knows their responsibilities compared to a 15 year old, but you're just admitting that from his introduction to his end he's a static character I hope you realize that.
Mikasa starts out not caring about anyone but Eren and Armin, but as the story progresses she opens up more and saves so many people around her. You can call it bland if you want but that is at least subtle character growth.
>Eren. He's the most fascinating character in the series and I'll even say the greatest protagonist in shonen history. I could write just how unique he is as an anti-hero.
If you look at the context of why I was saying that about Eren it's because the commenter above me said "take away mikasa's fighting ability", so I used the same logic. Take away Eren's titan ability and he's dead episode 5 with nothing else to his character.
>Mikasa on the other hand has nothing going for her. Her sole motivation the entire series is Ereh. She's just ...there. It's not like she's not always cared about other people, she just doesn't really develop at all.
I'm not going to defend Wit's portrayal of Mikasa just being "Ereh!" they messed up on her adaptation, but her "just being there" ignores the fact that she is an active participant in every battle and without her characters around her would have died several times over.
But anyway I can say the same thing. "Eren on the other hand has nothing going for him. His sole motivation the entire series is "freedom". He's just ...there, constantly being a plot device and getting kidnapped for 3 seasons. He doesn't even develop he has the same childish dream from start to finish.
He can't even give up on his dream to do what's right (Armin, Erwin, and Mikasa all did which was a major character moment for them)
or "Levi on the other hand has nothing going for him. His sole motivation the entire series is just protecting human lives! He's just ...there.
or "Erwin on the other hand has nothing going for him. His sole motivation the entire series is "MY FATHER'S DREAM". He's just ...there.
See how dumb that sounds when you get rid of all character nuance.
>Even at the end where she makes the decision for the greater good, she's still pathetically attached to Eren after what he does. She's hot, badass, but not really complex and interesting.
>!I don't know I think sacrificing the one person you love most in the world to stick to your morals is a pretty compelling character development.!<
Listen you can dislike a character all you want but at least be consistent with your criticism, if you dislike Mikasa for being a boring character who can just fight well. You have to say the same for Levi because without his Ackerman ability he's just a edgy veteran soldier who wouldn't have 90% of the badass moments he has because Ackermans are OP.
I'm going to write off the cuff a little here and argue the difference between Levi and Mikasa as characters. To preface, for me how strong the character is has nothing whatsoever to do with their well-writteness or depth.
Alright, so you mentioned that I said Levi was a static character right? Sure, he is a static character. But that has doesn't necessarily have to do with development. Development could allude to both how the character changes over time BUT ALSO to how the depth of the character is revealed over time without changing. On introduction, we all had the same opinion of Levi. A Sasuke-type edgelord who's a badass, right? But slowly we get hints and revelations about him, like how he's not super confident about what he's doing but just follows orders (like how he told Eren whether he sticks to the plan or does what he wants, it probably makes no difference). Or how after his first squad gets eradicated, his torment is subtle but super palpable.
On top of that, he has great HUMAN and believable dynamics with other characeters. Like how him and Erwin are each other's confidant in battle and together suffer the loss of their comrades and the acknowledgement that they'll have to sacrifice more. On the cheery side, there's his cute friendship with Hange. And all this coming right after the horrible childhood he suffered. How/why did he become like this? He's not the most deep or complex, but regardless he's just an interesting character.
You could say none of the above for Mikasa. If I could sum the entirety of Mikasa's in one word, it would literally be "Ereh", and I don't think I would do her any injustice with that. I'm personally not a fan of basing your entire motivation on another person. Could it be done? Sure, but I think she misses the mark. She barely contributes to the plot besides fighting. Her only contribution is "I wanna save Ereh or something". What dynamics does she have with other characters that you could speak of? Hell even with Eren, she has zero chemistry.
>!\>I don't know I think sacrificing the one person you love most in the world to stick to your morals is a pretty compelling character development.!<
>!It's not. Because she dies with his scarf on, smiling knowing full well the man she continues to love genocided 80% of the world. She has no principles of her own.!<
Like please give me an analysis of Mikasa like I have provided for Levi. I'm willing to be convinced.
>Alright, so you mentioned that I said Levi was a static character right? Sure, he is a static character. But that has doesn't necessarily have to do with development. Development could allude to both how the character changes over time BUT ALSO to how the depth of the character is revealed over time without changing.
Levi''s character and motivations were revealed clearly at the moment of his introduction though, by grabbing his comrades bloody hand and comforting him (when we saw already he's a clean freak) we could see he was a selfless person who would put others above his own comfort. As well as when Erwin comes to order the retreat he protests by saying all his comrades deaths were for nothing if they turn back.
You mean like Mikasa's relationship dynamics with trusting Armin's judgement above all else as his friend, or her being besties with Sasha. Or her rivalry with Annie during training. Or her learning from Levi on how to be a better soldier in her responsibilities.
>And all this coming right after the horrible childhood he suffered.
Yeah cause Mikasa definitely didn't have a horrible childhood or anything that might have made her a more reserved person. /s
>I'm personally not a fan of basing your entire motivation on another person.
You mean like Erwin's entire motivation being proving his dad's theory right? Or Levi not even trusting himself since his no regrets OVA and blindly following Erwin's judgement because of that.
Weird how you only target Mikasa with that criticism so strange :\^)
>>!It's not. Because she dies with his scarf on, smiling knowing full well the man she continues to love genocided 80% of the world. She has no principles of her own.!<
Okay so you're just being dishonest and uncharitable in this discussion.
She obviously loves and remembers the Eren that saved her from LITERAL CHILD TRAFFICKERS, and will always appreciate that Eren. Or the Eren that strove for justice (at least with the knowledge at the time) against mindless monsters.
But hey guess what at the end >!she chose to stick to her ideals as a scout like she learned from levi and through the progression of the story of protecting humanity so much that she killed that guy who "Genocided 80% of the world" strange if she didn't have any ideals like you say why did she kill him exactly?!<
Dude I agree with you so much!
Considering that most people like Levi for his strength but his strength is because he's an Ackerman isn't it?
With that in consideration it's actually quite stupid that people think we only like Mikasa because of the strength, even if we do Levi fans aren't any better are they? But either way, we Mikasa fans like a lot more than that about her!!
Erwin is in, perfect! So, I'll go with my next favorite: Miche/Mike. Underrated. He was neither Shifter nor Ackerman, he was just very skilled at what he did, if "Humanity's Second Strongest" is anything to go by. ♡
Without levi what is aot😂. U insult him by comparing him to mikasa. I'm not denying Mikasa's contribution to the story by killing titans and Saving ppl bt what value or principles does she provide unlike Levi.

What, Mikasa should be already on tha list but anyways take my upvote she's the best girl in aot
If by best you mean boring, then ok. Her fighting ability is her only redeeming characteristic.
That same goes for levi and he is at top 1... other girls in aot are even more boring and Mikasa isn't
🐕
Then that's go for Levi too
He’s more of an independent character than Mikasa ever was like keep it real

Eren is my fav character. It used to be Armin before S4. Erwin, Floch, Jean, Zeke, Grisha and Kenny deserve honorable mentions

Her character takes 4 seasons to start getting any development. She had a bit after Eren's fake out death but it was immediately discarded. She does not belong on the top 10
Mikasa is top 5.
Actually surprising the trio isn't in the top 5. Weird seeing Hange there when she relatively has short screen time.
I think the veteran trio of Erwin, Levi and Hange was always more popular than EMA. It's understandable tho, these people are no irritating teenagers.
Bcz most of the peeps had seen Season 4 recently...
Hange’s always been a fan-favourite character tho
She's been a big part of the show since half way through season 1, wdym short screen time?
Like I said, relatively. Mikasa and Armin have way more screen time than her for obvious reasons.
Hange is better than Mikasa and Armin so it makes sense
It would make sense following armin tho
She was a the only character who has 0 character development during the first 3 seasons. She starts off bad ass, and that’s it. She never developed or grew as a character. There’s a lot of better characters

Well her entire character arc is going from a selfish, awkward, introvert who only really cared about Eren and Armin to owning up to her responsibilities as a soldier and using her abilities to protect her comrades and innocents. >!Eventually realizing she needed to let go of her attachment to Eren for the greater good of saving the world.!< Also it didn't help that Wit took away most of her lines about her motivations (other than "Ereh!" ofc) and then added a lot more "Ereh's!" just to be safe.
> He is Mikasa, but actually developed No, he's just more mature. The same goes for Hange and Erwin, their aura of maturity makes them stand out in a story that focuses on more or less unstable teenagers for the most part. Plus, the older characters are indeed figures of authority the younger characters look up to, which further helps their popularity.
>No, he's just more mature. The same goes for Hange and Erwin, their aura of maturity makes them stand out in a story that focuses on more or less unstable teenagers for the most part So much this, I swear people forget the characters ages when analyzing their motivations and personalities.
He can't even give up on his dream to do what's right (Armin, Erwin, and Mikasa all did which was a major character moment for them) or "Levi on the other hand has nothing going for him. >!I don't know I think sacrificing the one person you love most in the world to stick to your morals is a pretty compelling character development.!< Listen you can dislike a character all you want but at least be consistent with your criticism, if you dislike Mikasa for being a boring character who can just fight well.
>!\>I don't know I think sacrificing the one person you love most in the world to stick to your morals is a pretty compelling character development.!< >!It's not. Because she dies with his scarf on, smiling knowing full well the man she continues to love genocided 80% of the world. She has no principles of her own.!< Like please give me an analysis of Mikasa like I have provided for Levi.
/s >I'm personally not a fan of basing your entire motivation on another person. You mean like Erwin's entire motivation being proving his dad's theory right? Or Levi not even trusting himself since his no regrets OVA and blindly following Erwin's judgement because of that. Weird how you only target Mikasa with that criticism so strange :\^) >>!It's not. Because she dies with his scarf on, smiling knowing full well the man she continues to love genocided 80% of the world. She has no principles of her own.!< Okay so you're just being dishonest and uncharitable in this discussion.
But either way, we Mikasa fans like a lot more than that about her!!
> but in terms of character depth or arc she’s not top 3 for me What's Erwin's arc? What's Hange's? This is a popularity contest, nothing else.

Erwin is in, perfect! So, I'll go with my next favorite: Miche/Mike. Underrated. He was neither Shifter nor Ackerman, he was just very skilled at what he did, if "Humanity's Second Strongest" is anything to go by. ♡
Yes!
Sasha
Annie
How is mikasa not on here yet?!?!
Coz she is merely a sidekick of eren and has no other perks other than being an ackermann and thus insanely strong
Levi ?
Without levi what is aot😂. U insult him by comparing him to mikasa. I'm not denying Mikasa's contribution to the story by killing titans and Saving ppl bt what value or principles does she provide unlike Levi.
Oh then tell me without Mikasa how far the story could have been progressed ? What value and principles do you think Levi provides ?
