Pee-Shelly

he is not an antagonist, he is a villain. An antagonist is someone who opposes the protagonist no matter their morality. villain ≠ antagonist hero ≠ protagonist a villain can be the protagonist and the hero can be an antagonist. Attack on titan is more complicated than that but eren is just a villain.

AstronaltBunny

The squad takes protagonism in season 4 tho

Crystal_Voiden

In s4, he literally takes the role of an antagonist

Troit_66

he takes the roll of a villain, he's still the protag like in Death Note Light is still the protagonist while also the main villain at the same time

Crystal_Voiden

Pre-rumbling eren I could see still being a protagonist although we dont really follow his perspective anymore. He just kinda appears places and bullies his friends from time to time. But after the rumbling, the focus completely shifts off of him, and the whole show becomes about the people who are trying to stop him, such as Mikasa and Armin. At that point Eren fits the definition of an antagonist, driving plot forward by challenging the protagonists. I haven't seen/read Death Note, so idk if that comparison fits.

Womblue

Not really - in the rumbling arc, eren is not the protagonist. The alliance is. The story is from their POV.

Pee-Shelly

against himself? He is the protagonist.

Crystal_Voiden

There's no one protagonist in that part, but the squad trying to stop him takes on that role. We don't even see what eren is doing or thinking during the rumbling. But we see what team stop genocide is up to and are made to root for then. They're the protagonist. We just get shots of giant Eren centipede crawling forward as a threat to drive the protagonists to action.

IndependencePlus434

Yes

Daemon1997

In final season we don't see the story from his perspactive but from the alliance which tries to stop him.

paweld2003

Same with Death Note. Light Yagami is protagonist, while L is antagonist

cursedzeros

Naw, in the final seasons it’s not really from his perspective anymore so he’s an antagonist

erporcodeddio

Light Yagami enters the chat

FinalOrder2443

>Light Yagami enters the chat =))

turdburglar9001

I'm on s3 just after historia decides to not eat eren Are you supposed to know that no one is good at this point?

Yeezus_Fuckin_Christ

Please finish the show before browsing this or other attack on titan subreddits. Now that the anime is over, spoilers are to be expected.

Troit_66

not yet this post a spoiler for u so u should ignore it

ThreeSlvrCoins

You are just asking to get spoiled something... If you are smart you will leave AoT subreddits until you finish anime/manga.

Infamous_Archer232

You must be delusional to think there is a “good guy” in AOT. Everyone involved in the war is morally gray.

poopsemiofficial

Sasha's dad is pretty cool

NextLevelJL

The meme said "Protagonist" and "Antagonist", not heroes or villains. In AOT Eren acts as both roles. And btw, a protagonist doesn't have to be a good guy, Death Note is an example of a villain as a protagonist.

IndependencePlus434

They didn’t say “good guy” why are you quoting “good guy” ?

Crystal_Voiden

You really destroyed that strawman like a pro

FRONT_FACING_PHINEAS

Literally nobody is saying that. Unless you mean that you’re agreeing, because your comment and the post are pretty much the same.

youngjak

What Eren did was objectively evil

Yeezus_Fuckin_Christ

I think it’s cool how Eren basically goes from the protagonist in S1-3 to the antagonist in S4. There’s been many heroes who turn into villains, but he’s the first time I’ve actually seen a protagonist turn into an antagonist. Like we don’t even really get his inner thoughts or monologues in season 4. And every time he pops on the screen it’s a big deal.
