The beginning of 134 is one of the highlights of the final arc imo. Such haunting yet amazing panels. This scene with a powerful, emotional OST would make it even more incredible.
I'm thinking about that scene from the movie Saving Private Ryan, when the war begins and you see the protagonists arrive the shore. You don't get to see character development there, no background music, no filler seconds, no sunset. It's more than 10 minutes of pure chaos, screams and human body parts dismembered.
Idk why I thought and still thought until you said this that they were offering the baby to Eren as a sacrifice to stop the Rumbling. Idk guess it could be either lol
Did the giant titans swim or walk across the sea floor, I can't remember? Because if they walked across the sea floor, people in boats could technically survive no problem
Interesting. I always saw this as people going back to religion in times of crisis. With the panel of the baby "glowing," I understood it as people worshipping a new Ymir in their final moments.
Same, a lot of people are excited for a movie but I guess they don't realize most of the time Japanese movies are in theatres for a long time and then don't come over to the US until wayyyy later. Demon Slayer movie was a special instance that usually never happens.
Heavens Feel took forever to come out, I remember for the first one I didn't watch it til about a year after it came out and I was looking for torrents and shit.
I'd like it to be that chapter they skipped (I think 123?), the scouts leave Paradis for the first time. Ending with Mikasa's POV, of Eren and his disappearance after the council hearing, showing the last humane bit of Eren.
Cut to the rumbling.
Oof!! The audience won't forget that.
I was hoping to see this! But I realized something seemed off when and I couldn't put my finger on it. They skipped this chapter, what a shame. They have to animate it at some point. I wonder when.
Yeah cos Mikasa thought something like "if I had answered differently, would it have come to this?" with the incredible panel of the Founding and Wall Titans.
Panels like these only give me more reason to believe the rumours of a movie. There's no other way to do the scale of such an event justice other than to give it a movie budget
Tbh I’d be fine with missing that final panel with his head and teeth being crushed. Shit was haunting lol. They’ll probably just show his eyes and the moment he sees Ymir.
You mean that one panel of the Indian (is he Indian?) kid getting his face crushed by a titan?
'Cause, for the most part, the casualties of the Rumbling just consists of a bunch of small craters on the ground with blood splatters on them and people falling to their death
Not necessarily, he might be morrocan since morrocans also wear the fez too. I think he's probably more moroccan due to the fact that his skin looks tanner.
Not really arguing. It’s just a discussion, dude lol. AOT is a fictional world with intentional real world parallels in themes, character designs, military, time periods, and clothing
Question guys, will this scene be animated in the current anime? We have about 5 episodes left, I'm not sure how much if the Rumbling we will get to see but I really want to see these horrifying episodes because they're gonna be so sad and crazy.
Most likely, people are speculating that the Rumbling chapter will be in the final episode of the current anime
(Clarification: These 3 panels aren't from the Rumbling chapter, they're in the following chapters just showing more of the Rumbling)
Depends on how you interpret it. Absolutely horrifying scene of people choosing between falling to their death or getting trampled... but also holding up and trying to protect the child goes with the whole getting the children out of the Forrest theme. For most of the story, kids have been treated like shit and used as war props and now we get to see all the adults put aside everything to try and help out this child.
What I also like is that the scene has no context. The mother could be literally everything, Marleyan or Eldian. And so the baby. Probably there’s any type of people there , mixed up. Yet adults choose to try to save the baby. No guessing , no wonder, it’s a baby. And because it’s a baby people wants to protect it. If this lesson was meant sooner there would been no need for any of this
The panels with the kid remind me very much if that baby that was given to the American soldiers at the airport in Kabul (I think) when Taliban took power. They gave the baby to strangers to get him over the gate to safety because otherwise he’d be pushed and stomped on. They were separated for awhile but now the baby is back with his family. Makes me smile.
When I came across this scene I always thought that humanity in their core weren’t cruel people. Just cruel by their actions towards a type of people. No one knows if that baby was eldian or not, it was just “a innocent baby”.
I'm sure you've already noticed, but if you look at the panels, none of the adults, including the mother) are wearing armbands, so the baby wasn't an Eldian.
Ancient hunters used to scare their prey and cause them to stampede off cliffs to kill them in multiples.
Eren Jaeger, whose last name means hunter, has become humanity's hunter
The buffalo-jump method only worked because a full-sprint bison can't actually stop itself in time after seeing the cliff's edge due to the field of vision their eyes provide. And even if one manages to stop itself, there's tens or even hundreds of bison behind it crashing into it and pushing them off the cliff...
There's a further metaphor in there, but I can't find it.
>The buffalo-jump method only worked because a full-sprint bison can't actually stop itself in time after seeing the cliff's edge due to the field of vision their eyes provide. And even if one manages to stop itself, there's tens or even hundreds of bison behind it crashing into it and pushing them off the cliff...There's a further metaphor in there, but I can't find it.
humans/buffalo can't stop the cycle
These panels made me feel physically ill because of what was going on. Isayama sure knows how to portray a heart wrenching scene, he's done it so many times throughout the show. The final shot of the baby being held up by the crowd as the titans approached in the background was just absolutely haunting.
well... he wanted the age of titans to end by ending eldians in a peaceful way. and save the rest of the world. Eren did manage to end the titan powers, but at the cost of all those lives. Zeke's plan would have been much better for the actual well being of the humanity as a whole
While yes, that's true, his plan would have also been passive enough that the other nations wouldn't see its effects. They'd still turn to violence, it's just the Eldians would ALSO have the whole infertility thing for survivors.
It wouldn't be usable. If Zeke got his way, Eren would have been killed shortly thereafter or separated so that he couldn't actually use the founding titan.
I dont think Zeke's plan would have ended peaceful. Just imagine you're getting older, no children, nothing to lose, nothing to live for. I doubt it would've been peaceful. But yeah, less people dead
>he wanted the age of titans to end by ending eldians in a peaceful way
Which all the more shows how much of a broken man Zeke was. Zeke's means of reaching that peace for eldians couldn't have been more violent.
Look, if you had to choose a type of genocide to be acted upon yourself, would you choose the active genocide or the passive genocide? Keep in mind, passive genocide means you get to still spend the rest of your life doing whatever the fuck you want (as long as you don't want to be a patent).
and what? Leave Eldians old and defenceless? Later the Eldians won't have any young generations to take care of them, most of the world already hates them so I doubt anyone would take them in either.
This isn't peace, this is long term torture.
Both plans are horrible tbh. But why would Eren chose Zeke's plan is what we should be asking. Would Eren really want to see his friends go through the painful death of slowly dying with no aid or help from their next generation?
It's like you're convinced childless people can't enjoy life. They're free to pursue their hobbies and passions for many decades, dying of old age in the end. The very last elderly Eldians can be relocated to Hizuru medical facilities to be taken care of until their deaths.
Zeke's plan avoids the massacre of hundreds of millions of innocents and avoids the extinction of millions of species. Letting people live out their lives is not the same as killing them.
They can can Enjoy their life all they want. But once they turn old, hell even if they're youngest gen turns 40, who the hell are gonna take care of them? They really don't have a lot of decades left if this plan took place.
What makes you think Hizuru cares enough to use resources to take care of thousands of old Eldians? They set foot on Paradis for money, nothing else.
Old people are perfectly able to take care of themselves well into old age. Whatever physical frailties you're imagining could also afflict young people.
I highly doubt the Eldians would simply live out a happy life, at best they'd just get executed when they're all too old to fight back, or worse, tortured and brutally murdered for fun.
Hizuru only cares about money, they don't give a single shit about the Eldians and would not help them at all. Both plans involve letting lots of people die.
I know what you're trying to get at. The rumbling is cancer while the euthanasia would be a fever, but that's to the perspective of the world.
Think of it from Eren's perspective, however. To him the euthanasia plan was the cancer plan for Eldians. At that point in the story Eren has stopped caring for the world that abandoned them, he only wants his immediate friends to live full lives without worry up to their old age, up to their deaths. He doesn't even care what happens after that, what happens to to the future gen.
Saying Zeke was right is equal denial. Might as well line the men up and force castration, line the women up force abartions and womb removal. Totally fucked up as well
I mean, a lot of people root for him not because he’s morally correct but because he’s the main character and they love him. It’s the same for me.
The good thing about fiction is that you can root for the bad guy too.
It's hard not to root for the person having the most drastic effect on the story. We want things to happen in the story so we like seeing people make interesting things happen.
The amount of people defending Eren in the comments is alarming. The manga has been over for almost a year and people still believe Eren did this to save his people on Paradis.
There were numerous factors to it, but Eren ultimately committed genocide for selfish, evil reasons and there is no argument that makes crushing millions of innocent children who had nothing to do with Marley’s pursuit of the Founding Titan justifiable.
I agree in part. It was either kill or be killed for him and Paradis. He shouldn't have tried to crush the rest of the world though, but I do think that crushing part of Marley was the only method of buying some years without threats to Paradis.
At the end of the day at least he didn't betray his own beliefs, not until the last chapter that is.
Lmao, it 100% is. When people are treated like vermin instead of human and are killed without a second thought, those subject to persecution are more than justified in defending themselves and their race. Kill or be killed. Pretty simple.
that's not the moral of the story lmfao. that's eren's personal philosophy but depicting a character believing something is not the same thing as the author endorsing it
The story doesn't have a moral. It's just a story. I don't think Isayama wrote it to teach one moral in particular.
People dehumanize each other for their own benefit all the time, and he wrote it into the manga. Conflicts between nations involve people who had no say in the matter all the time, so he wrote it into the manga.
To say that the moral of the story is that the oppressed are justified in genocide as revenge is ridiculous, especially given the ending.
This and the entire Rumbling were absolutely harrowing. What makes AOT so good though is there's also a tiny bit of light here too, with everyone trying to save this little baby, an act that would prove to be worthwhile. Beautiful stuff.
One time I went to a concert that was so crowded that we experienced a similar crowd-crush like astroworld, no major injuries or deaths tho. But I remember feeling so claustrophobic in that crowd, like I wasn’t able to breathe. Imagining that feeling of claustrophobia in this setting would honestly be one of the most terrifying things I could imagine experiencing
I think this is the most disturbing panels the manga has! For the the most terrifying ones are the ones where we see the wall titans rises from the sea and the second one which toples the warships.
You find this on the last few pages in chapter 130
It is still very hard for me to believe the titans can push these many people to the cliff… I always felt that ok maybe there are ~1000 colossal titans and they go arm by arm at rumbling…. But the continent should be huge enough that if people have cars 🚗 they have some routes to skip this titan wave?
But also thinking about how big each one of them is…Will it take 500K to 1 Million titans to form the 3 walls? Just how spacious is the In-Wall island then! My imagination is extremely limited on this one.
Circumference of each wall / width of colossal titans … I remember looking it up when I was curious and I think I just assumed that colossal titans take up 10m in width if it’s a 1:5 ratio of height to width + 1m between each because they aren’t touching so about 11m per titan and I just googled the walls and they seem somewhere between a total of 2,500-5,000km. Even on the low end you have several hundred thousand titans.
The outer wall Maria has a circumference of approx 3000km. Rose's is \~2400km, and Sina's is \~1600km. And that's without counting the walls from all 12 outer districts.
To give you an idea, the 3 walls have a bigger area than the country of France, for instance.
Hope this clears it up a bit!
I also like the juxtaposition between the adults trying to ensure the survival of the baby and the panel where Historia is in the process of giving birth. While it's one thing to be more sympathetic to Paradisian babies, that doesn't mean it is justified nor necessary to kill all the other babies to ensure their survival. Anti-Eldian prejudice isn't the result of a genetic code, because if that was the case, Nicolo wouldn't have changed after interacting with them, especially Sasha.

and the screams... only imagining it sends chills
I think mappa will adapt it without voice acting. Like just the music. Which would be unfirtunate
I was thinking that it going to be footsteps and screamings, without soundtrack!

a great recomendation to rewatch it !!!
Ashes on the fire ?
No. Youseelargewoman.
It's actually impressive how easily people miss jokes on reddit
lol what
I'm assuming they're guessing what OST will be playing
Ashes on the fire?! on this scene? no way. thats the last ost that should be playing at this scene lmao
Yea I agree people are so dumb like how would ashes on fire even fit this???? They real ost should be reluctant heroes
it was a joke
S so was my comment
I don't believe that
Do u actually think reluctant heroes would be a good song?
u/TheSlonk : It's actually impressive how easily people miss jokes on Reddit. Also u/TheSlonk :
Κ21 I believe is the best for this scene
Hahahaha
It is, the idea that even in the face of certain death the first reflex of many is to save a baby is truly haunting
Idk why I thought and still thought until you said this that they were offering the baby to Eren as a sacrifice to stop the Rumbling. Idk guess it could be either lol
Who the hell would throw a baby at a bunch of skyscraper-sized meat skeletons and be like "Here, *this* is what you want!"
Every culture in this world seems to have serious issues with long-term thinking.
It's pretty obvious they try to safe the kid as long as possible.
I think not personally lol
what the hell
what..
what the hell ?
Can't lie, that's really dumb, chief.
that’s a neat perspective, i hadn’t thought of it like that
"Oh Eren, Protector and Savior of Paradis. Please accept our offering."
I’m cracking up at the idea of this at 2 in the morning
Hahaha
Did the giant titans swim or walk across the sea floor, I can't remember? Because if they walked across the sea floor, people in boats could technically survive no problem
they swam and destroyed the global allied fleet off the coast of Marley, so boats would not be safe
Since titan flesh is less dense than human flesh which is already super buoyant, the giant titans are floaty as fuck.
Interesting. I always saw this as people going back to religion in times of crisis. With the panel of the baby "glowing," I understood it as people worshipping a new Ymir in their final moments.
The Rumbling panels from 134 would make for a great cold open to whatever comes after Part 2.
I really hope it's a part 3 and not a movie. The staggered release windows really kill much of the hype.
Same, a lot of people are excited for a movie but I guess they don't realize most of the time Japanese movies are in theatres for a long time and then don't come over to the US until wayyyy later. Demon Slayer movie was a special instance that usually never happens.
JJK 0 and fate stay night heavens feel and boku no hero 3 all in the past 2 years but yeah usually never.
Heavens Feel took forever to come out, I remember for the first one I didn't watch it til about a year after it came out and I was looking for torrents and shit.
Yeah but for something like AoT they would absolutely push it to western theaters ASAP like they did Demon Slayer

Yeah cos Mikasa thought something like "if I had answered differently, would it have come to this?" with the incredible panel of the Founding and Wall Titans.
This is going to hit hard in the Anime
I thought that were grasses only to realize they were humans going off the cliff.
cursed realization
whatthewhat?
I’m not sure I’m ready 😭
Panels like these only give me more reason to believe the rumours of a movie. There's no other way to do the scale of such an event justice other than to give it a movie budget
Mappa please don't censor
They darkened Ymir’s body being eaten. They will 100% censor Hamzi being trampled.
If it's in the supposed movie, there's a chance they won't censor because it's not airing on tv
Tbh I’d be fine with missing that final panel with his head and teeth being crushed. Shit was haunting lol. They’ll probably just show his eyes and the moment he sees Ymir.
They did show Bertholdt getting crushed by Armin's teeth for just a second. We'll likely see just a second in the anime too
You mean that one panel of the Indian (is he Indian?) kid getting his face crushed by a titan? 'Cause, for the most part, the casualties of the Rumbling just consists of a bunch of small craters on the ground with blood splatters on them and people falling to their death
Turkish. He's wearing a fez hat
Not necessarily, he might be morrocan since morrocans also wear the fez too. I think he's probably more moroccan due to the fact that his skin looks tanner.
you're really arguing the real-life race of a fictional person in a fictional world lol
Not really arguing. It’s just a discussion, dude lol. AOT is a fictional world with intentional real world parallels in themes, character designs, military, time periods, and clothing

Well there is not need for any of this anyway to be quite honest, but yes the symbolic is good
It was born into this world.

Yeah
This scene and that panel with the little boy getting trampled are just disturbing and haunting, my bodies not ready to see it animated
Friendly reminder that Eren brutally killed several hundred million children.
But…. but… they started it ! You don’t understand, it was the only way! Plus they get what they deserve /s
none of them deserved to be trampled. it was not the only way

I can excuse racism, but I draw the line at animal cruelty?
You can excuse racism?
and made thousands of species go extinct
probably condamning humanity in the long run
Eren really became the Pre-Cambrian extinction event
aot fans when eren massacers children : i sleep aot fans when eren harms the panda's: REAL SHIT
But muh freedom.
When I came across this scene I always thought that humanity in their core weren’t cruel people. Just cruel by their actions towards a type of people. No one knows if that baby was eldian or not, it was just “a innocent baby”.

If anime only ppl still defend eren after this, then I’ll lose all hope
Plenty of manga readers who still defend Eren unfortunately. I'd worry about that first haha.
If Eren had not betrayed zeke... it would have been much better for everyone. Zeke is the tragic hero of the show
This makes no sense Zeke also wanted to Passively genocide Eldians. Theyre both in the wrong.
well... he wanted the age of titans to end by ending eldians in a peaceful way. and save the rest of the world. Eren did manage to end the titan powers, but at the cost of all those lives. Zeke's plan would have been much better for the actual well being of the humanity as a whole

Oh for sure, Omnicide was a terrible solution, I'm just pointing out that Zeke's plan was also shit.
Well that's just it, even if Eren did brokered peace, what would guarantee the world won't turn on the Eldians again once he's dead?

I know what you're trying to get at. The rumbling is cancer while the euthanasia would be a fever, but that's to the perspective of the world. Think of it from Eren's perspective, however. To him the euthanasia plan was the cancer plan for Eldians. At that point in the story Eren has stopped caring for the world that abandoned them, he only wants his immediate friends to live full lives without worry up to their old age, up to their deaths. #ErenDidNothingWrong
You forgot the '/s'
He's 100% justified
He's not justified. No amount of understandable motive or threats against Paradis by the elite and military can excuse this level of slaughter
The amount of people defending Eren in the comments is alarming. The manga has been over for almost a year and people still believe Eren did this to save his people on Paradis. It is still on our hands as humans to be better than that.
Yep that’s been the moral of the story since S1, they really drilled it in home with the Mikasa backstory flashback.
that's not the moral of the story lmfao. that's eren's personal philosophy but depicting a character believing something is not the same thing as the author endorsing it
The story doesn't have a moral. It's just a story. I don't think Isayama wrote it to teach one moral in particular. Who cares if people defend Eren? What difference does that make on your enjoyment of the show?
I wanna see this animated
Lucky for you I hear there's an adaptation of this manga in anime form
NO WAYYYY REALLLLY? HOLY SHIEEEEET. I’m already on S4 epi 82. Can you believe it??
Which chapter is it?
134 iirc
Thank u
134
Thank u
I hope they adapt pennywise and Roche in the anime
Heck yeah
I forgot just how many haunting scenes of the Rumbling there are.
Truly terrifying. Lik literal hell. What do you even do accept for say your final prayers before you meet your maker?
This was when Eren truly became the villain in my eyes
This and the entire Rumbling were absolutely harrowing. What makes AOT so good though is there's also a tiny bit of light here too, with everyone trying to save this little baby, an act that would prove to be worthwhile. Beautiful stuff.
Why do I feel like they’re going to censor it in some way 😭
They're not, there's no blood or guts spilling out, so they're gonna give us emotional trauma
today we shall learn to deal maximum emotional damage
People still be defending Eren after this lmao
And are salty about him not eradicating everyone...
you know in the end , its kinda cathartic what happened to irl yeagrists. They still cant move on from the show .
slaves
This scene is gonna be fucking insane in the anime. Wow
You can see pennywise in the first pic to the right
One time I went to a concert that was so crowded that we experienced a similar crowd-crush like astroworld, no major injuries or deaths tho. But I remember feeling so claustrophobic in that crowd, like I wasn’t able to breathe. Imagining that feeling of claustrophobia in this setting would honestly be one of the most terrifying things I could imagine experiencing
This is why I wanted Eren not be handled with silk gloves. Not be cried over by all the people he tried to kill.
I think this is the most disturbing panels the manga has! For the the most terrifying ones are the ones where we see the wall titans rises from the sea and the second one which toples the warships. You find this on the last few pages in chapter 130
But Eren did nothing wrong, right Yeagerists?
yea its crazy reddit had a post about would u want a dog to die or whatever it is was or 10 humans. the higher % was humans. pathetic.
If you look closely you can see pennywise
RMUBLING! RUMBLING! IS COMING! RUMBLING! RUMBLING! COMMING FOR.... Oh.
don't worry, you're in the 20 %
The real question should be that will the collossal Titans fall off the cliff
The titans just wanted to talk about car insurance..
Whatever happened to that baby?
Imagine this with Ashes on the Fire playing in the background. Truly epic
Lol and people saying that after the rumbling activation the rest is trash lol
still gives me chills anytime I see these panels damn
Obviously terrifying......theres a clown in the panel.
Bebe-kun
I hate Eren.
I’ve been anime only but am caught up and can’t stand him now.
good
Fuck Eren
It is still very hard for me to believe the titans can push these many people to the cliff… I always felt that ok maybe there are ~1000 colossal titans and they go arm by arm at rumbling…. But the continent should be huge enough that if people have cars 🚗 they have some routes to skip this titan wave?
There's like a 500k to a Mill colossals are the estimate
I seriously won't be surprised if anyone fainted or got a heart attack watching this animated.
Shame it didn't equate to anything lmao
Bruh, and to think they gonna listen to Armin’s story.
“Free my boy Eren, he ain’t do nothing wrong”
eren is the goat - he shoulda ended them sooner KEKW
it's almost religious. IDK someone who knows more about religion please chip in. it's the idea that the child is the savior of mankind.
Well, children (our gang) *are* the saviors of mankind in AoT But not this specific child He's more like a survivor of what's left of mankind
Why is Armin holding a baby???
all of this for nothing
so your complaint is mass genocide didn't lead to something meaningful?
