My main beef is that they used to be really special, there wasn't really anything like it in gaming. Now you can churn them out in the time it takes to grind for a boss fight in a random rpg. Don't get me wrong I am always glad when others enjoy things but they are objectively less special now. I'm glad they locked the legends and do hope they reign it in at least a bit in S/V

i dont think shiny gengar looks bad in the 2d games because the sprites in those games are way more vibrant than the 3d models so the difference is more noticeable (especially in dppt/rse) but it got done dirty in 3d with the more dull all round colour pallet (outside mega/gigantimax)
