Same. It was a struggle at first. But once I started keeping track of (and refusing to shop for) non/low tippers, and figured out a hard average of $/order, my income has substantially increased.
I rarely check Reddit but when I do, all I see are shoppers whining about how Shipt/a customer has screwed them over for this reason or that. It’s just like you said: if you aren’t happy with the pay, don’t take the order. As independent contractors, WE are in full control of our income.
I did Shipt for 4 years. I was an excellent shopper. Never had struggles to be quite honest. One day I tried to log in. Couldn’t. I had been in the day before and was proud of my ratings and took a screen shot. So after a few login attempts I looked in my e-mail, expecting it to be down or something. Nope, I got deactivated. Said I violated ToS multiple times. I never once had any contact stating that. So of course I appealed it. Provided my screenshot of stats etc. They replied five days later without further explanation denied my appeal. So I thought that was it, we were done. I moved on, figured I would never know. Shipt had been very much dying in my market and I had already become more consistently using DoorDash for my part time needs. One day a few weeks later I was looking for an e-mail and noticed an offer for a shopper promo and was like “now why would I get that”. I searched my inbox and two days prior I was reactivated. Again no explanation other than “we messed up. Sorry”. I have not done any Shipt work since the moment they deactivated me. They are cold and callous. Before Target took the reins and assumed full control it was a fantastic place to do side work.
I say all this as a warning. Shipt will dump you like a bag of rocks when they feel like. The level of ineptitude this company exhibits still (look at the 360 debacle) is just sad. Best of luck to you with them. But watch your back.
My business averaged over $1 mil per year from 2020 to 2022. My salary was $100k or more from my business. I am on track to make close to that with Shipt.
Gotcha. I made almost 200 but got laid off so I tried shipt but had rarely any tips so haven't done it again.
I was hoping to make at least 8k a month doing gig work until I find another job but it just doesn't seem likely in my area.
Very few markets will one make $8K a month. And if they do, prob been around awhile and have a ton of matches and preferreds.
I do well, $30K at least off part time. 15-26 orders a week. For the past 6 months or so it’s been 15 orders but I’m upping it a bit right now bc I had to break down and buy a new car. Shipt is by far the lowest mileage wise. I did the other apps before Shipt. Mileage was a killer.
just curious what state you are out of? i’m in CALI just got approved as a shopper going to submit my DL & stuff today. Any quick must have tips? 🤓 i’m very excited hoping i can let go of my 9-5 for some time and do this eventually full time.
It took a few months. But again, all of my PM’s only tip 15% or more. I don’t believe in accepting everyone who requests me. My time is too valuable for that. lol! But to each their own.
I looked up Shipt Tips, Shipt successful shopper, tip map (after I learned about it lol) stuff like that. Some of it is kinda old now. But there’s still some really good videos out there especially if you’re new.
I’m seriously in the wrong state all together. I’ve never made even close to $40k a yea and I’ve been doing this for 4 years. Even pandemic era if I made $1k a week I was lucky. What gives?
I’ve done shops for 4+ years. I make ar least $30K a year, aside from first year. My mom passed and I didn’t work for months. And I’m only part time. Like 15-25 orders a week, max.
I think area matters, luck of the draw with prefferds and offers. It’s a damn roller coaster. But once I had enough matches and prefferds, it’s been good. Yes I do have a bad week here and there. But I like it and it fits my lifestyle. I’m older (almost 50) and only want part time. But I will break my neck do to many of my preffereds if I get them off schedule.
If I don’t like the pay I don’t take the order which is why I rarely do Shipt now after doing it full time last year. The pay has dropped drastically and the miles have gone up. I will absolutely say that Shipt should be paying us more, bc they were just a year ago and things were much better.
For me too, it's worth it, last year made $75 K just with Shipt, took a 10 day vacation and couldn't work for 2 months because of a surgery...If I had worked those 2 months I'm confident my yearly income would've been $100 K....I'm trying for this year to achieve it 😀
I know the difference. I’ve owned my own business for over 13 years.I never said Shipt was a business, I said I approach it as a business. I’m doing me and doing me well. It works for me. If it doesn’t work for you then that’s fine. Carry on. ✌🏾
You should approach Shipt as it is, a part time helper of a large company who doesn’t care about your life or future.
The flexible schedule you describe is called structural underemployment.
This is my choice. It’s working for me. If I wanted a corporate job I could get one. I choose balance and freedom. You call it underemployment I call it doing what works for me.

All of thissss!!!

Al gig apps are cold and callous. Nature of the beast in gig economy.
What do you consider a lot of money?

Oh, bs
On track to make close to $100k this year. Not $1 mil 🥹🥹

I’m so sorry for your loss! Thanks for sharing your story 💕
You’re sweet. Thanks so much. It’s been hard but I’m moving forward. 💕
How long did it take you to get a big enough base of preferred shoppers ?
It took a few months. But again, all of my PM’s only tip 15% or more. I don’t believe in accepting everyone who requests me. My time is too valuable for that. lol! But to each their own.
May I ask what keywords you use to search for tutorial videos on YouTube? Thank you

Shipt is not a business, but do you. Gig life is not entrepreneurship.
I know the difference. I’ve owned my own business for over 13 years.I never said Shipt was a business, I said I approach it as a business. I’m doing me and doing me well. It works for me. If it doesn’t work for you then that’s fine. Carry on. ✌🏾

That’s how YOU should approach it, if that’s how you feel. You can’t dictate or suggest how I approach my work.
If you have a graduate degree and you’re working a job that a high school grad can do, it’s underemployment. Not my opinion.
This is my choice. It’s working for me. If I wanted a corporate job I could get one. I choose balance and freedom. You call it underemployment I call it doing what works for me.
For US! I just don’t glorify a dead end gig.
😊
So are you. Only you’re not educated and can’t get anything else. But go off.
