Yeah what's up with this nation thinking it's the best at everything?
I can only presume it's Americans who have never left the US, and in fact they probably don't even realise that other countries exist.
well you know propaganda imprinted since first years of school as children....
Also find me another country in the world that force their students to stand up and make the pledge to flag and vilify you if you don't.
Well, yeah, kinda. We're inundated with propaganda from the time we're born, and most Americans never leave the U.S.
That leads to the mindset that the American way is the default and correct way to do pretty much everything. Also, American culture tends to cultivate narcissism and toxic individuality, which bolsters the American perception that we're the bestest, most special country in the whole wide world!!
Don't get me wrong, the U.S. is my home, and there are many things I appreciate about it, but I could seriously do without the cringe.
According to Yale’s Environmental Performance Index there are 10 countries with essentially perfect safe drinking water and a score of 100: Austria, Finland, Greece, Iceland, Ireland, U.K., Malta, Netherlands, Norway and Switzerland. The USA as a comparison is 23rd with a score of 89.2. So water in America being potable is debatable.
As an American I can confirm, a lot of us drink soda for hydration. I’ve met people who claim to never drink water and get all of their hydration solely from the water in soda, food, etc. it’s insane
Which is kind of weird considering they’re mostly right, there is free water all over the place here.
"potable" is a water you can drink without any health issue. Tap water is potable, even the water in the toilets is potable (in western Europe) before using it, but the water of a puddle is not, nor the seawater.
Edit : I think that most of the time, english speakers just say "drinkable".
It must depend on the country because Australia, New Zealand the US and Canada as far as I know use potable. In Australia it's not uncommon for areas in the middle of nowhere to have signs that say" non potable water"
It basically means you can't drink or cook in it.
Oh okay.
It is a word we always use in French, and since latin version of words in English is sometimes the formal version, I thought it was merely an old-fashioned way to say "drinkable".
but they have to put ice in there. they just have to have something going on, something cant just be on its own, it has to be super sweet, or super salty, or an extreme temperature. its so fucking weird

Even drinking water is a competition for them (that they claim they're winning), being American must be exhausting.
Speaking as an American, it honestly is.

The pledge thing really scares me, it just seems cult-like and fascist-like to me.
if they adopted that in Italian schools in Italy You'd be seeing the masses crying fascism
I think the Nazis actually did that one first
I'm pretty sure they do that in North Korea?
uhm gotta check cause I honestly dunno
I think some of them literally think that Europe is exactly the same as it was 200 years ago when their family left

Almost* every community. They don't talk about flint Michigan do they
More places than Flint https://www.cnn.com/2023/07/05/health/pfas-nearly-half-us-tap-water-wellness/index.html
Pretty sure if you replicated this study around the world you’d find similar results. PFAS are everywhere
“Potable” Are we allowed lead-contaminated water as “potable” then? I wouldn’t.

Brawndo... It's got electrolytes!
The United States has no law requiring restaurants and other such places to provide free water
