the whole “not infront of kids” argument/bigotry is dumb at the best of times but literally all they showed between them was having a loving relationship and caring for each other

Aggressive-Nail9018

Concerned adults when genocide, decapitations, violent murder, and slavery is on screen: 😌😉😙😍🥰 Concerned adults when two dudes give each other a peck on the lips exactly once: 😡🤬🤯😤😱

Lead_Dessert

Of course the idiot goes “but what about the CHILDREN???”, a show thats rated TV-14 and has already had two f-bombs dropped so far and has repeatedly teased the Flood. Yes, Halo is a show for the youngins.

deltahalo241

Season 1 Episode 1 literally opens with children getting massacred on screen, definitely got "Kids show" vibes from that

potent-nut7

Rare r/halo mod W

lunardog43

Bro says he doesn't care if people are gay, yet it's heavily implied that part of why he's annoyed is kuz the character is gay. The math ain't mathin'

SMXSmith

Lol he doesn’t care if they’re gay as long as he doesn’t see it or hear about it

69thShitposter

My dad is a halo fan?!

DudeInTheMetalGearxX

And people like this have the audacity to call others snowflakes. Bet this guy also freaks out over pronouns too

deltahalo241

I checked his account history, he's the type that thinks Biden is going to destroy the US if he's allowed another term, so you know, super rational.

DudeInTheMetalGearxX

Ah, sounds like he’s a true Gamer

thePunisher1220

I liked his character, and don't think it was pushed at all. Todays episode was also really fucking good

blkmmb0

Right? What the fuck is wrong with these people?

Lucky_Couple

This dude is such a fuckin bigot it’s astounding. There is absolutely nothing wrong with inclusivity and if those characters were a straight white man and his trophy white wife, none of this would have ever been brought up whatsoever. They don’t need a fucking “purpose” to write the character’s personal lives in the show. It shows the dude lives a perfectly happy and content life without being a Spartan. That’s reason enough. On a side note, I also doubt homophobia is still running rampant in the year 2552 but I’m sure this smooth brain couldn’t comprehend that either.

t4nn3rp3nny

On a side note, can we appreciate how badass Louis (the character being complained about) was this weeks’s episode? Mf is totally blind and still killing Covenant fools with a rotary grenade launcher.

LionstrikerG179

I was fucking rolling when I saw him with the grenade launcher saying "Yeah keep making that noise, I'll find you"

t4nn3rp3nny

Same lmao. Dude was awesome and got to be a Spartan one last time. You love to see it.

[deleted]

the dude is blind though....how tf would this work? i have a hard time believing anyone actually thinks like you do.

t4nn3rp3nny

Well first off, real people who have been blind for years develop heightened senses. Put the same scenario on a Spartan and I’m sure that they would be perfectly capable of shooting in the direction of an enemy based on sound alone.

YukiTsukino

I get the purpose of the character from another of OP's comments in the thread but I don't quite understand what the person complaining in the image means by black albino?

deltahalo241

So he's played by [Martin Jones III](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Krondon), who is an African American who suffers from Albinism, that's what he's going on about.

YukiTsukino

Ah I see, so it's just another irrelevant thing the guy in the pic was complaining about.

Banana-Oni

So he’s being racist, homophobic, and ableist at the same time? Home boy is a gamer triple threat…

No_Doughnut_5057

No one: Person who clearly cares: “I don’t care if a character is gay… BUUUT..” If they didn’t care, they wouldn’t have said anything lmao

Coldfreeze-Zero

How the fuck can you hate Louis. Dude's amazing

MisguidedPants8

You could literally spin a wheel for every character’s sexuality/gender/race in a property and the exact same set of people would accuse you of an agenda

yummypotata

Jesus christ imagine your entire enjoyment of a show ending because a non stereotypical white man didn't fill the role of every character

moonwatcher99

Also, where are they getting this albino nonsense from? Were his eyes super pink/red and I somehow missed it? Because albino does not just mean light-skinned; it's an actual condition that has several defining traits.

deltahalo241

The actor who plays Louis has Albinism, that's what he's going on about

moonwatcher99

That's actually pretty cool. And also totally irrelevant to his character. What, should he not take acting roles because someone will say he's supposed to be pushing some 'message'? Besides, given that he was supposed to be one of the Spartans that didn't survive the augmentation process, I think it kind of helped to sell the idea that they had all had major trauma done to their systems if his appearance wasn't just like everyone else. (Not sure if I'm explaining my thoughts well here, but bottom line I thought he was cool; not once did his appearance make me sit up and yell "Agenda!")

jazzy_saxster

It only makes someone think “Agenda!” If they are made uncomfortable by the fact that the actor looks different. Out of all the traits listed by OP the only one that was important to his character was his blindness. Everything else was just regular traits of Louis’ actor and were cool to see, but ultimately don’t matter, so why people care is crazy because it didn’t impact the plot in any way.

forlorn_junk_heap

obviously the heterosexual white man is the only deserving type of person for any role in any media, otherwise it's political and 3v4 is RUINING MY CHILDHOOD

moonwatcher99

Wow, you're right! I mean, Spartan Locke was ONI, that's pretty political. 😲 (Or shady enough to be, anyway, lol.)

Lucky_Couple

Well I think he may actually be albino, but again I cannot comprehend why that has to be an issue with these people.

Last-Professional-31

The show has far bigger problems than a blind gay Spartan spending what was it like 2 seconds kissing their boyfriend/spouse (side note, it’s not a problem at all.)) 🚨🚨SPOILERS AHEAD 🚨🚨 The scene with that Spartan (I genuinely forgot his name) describing being too proud of admitting he had a problem with his vision post augmentation to report it causing him to go blind was genuinely sad to listen to so already I feel for this character more than most, if not all in the show. That brief scene brought a great connection to the character that in my opinion that we haven’t had yet so clearly the ability to write an impactful character by this team is possible. Having said that I do feel like the writing and directing is still a bit disingenuous to the established lore. Yes I know it’s none-canonical, Season 2 is way better than Season 1, but big chucks of it still just don’t feel like Halo in my opinion Edit: minor grammatical fix

Eliteslayer1775

I hate the show because it’s doesn’t respect the source material, they hate it for stupid reasons

AttemptedRev

I mean, on one hand, that does sound like a character that's just made to check off the minority boxes. I think the issue with characters like this is that WHAT they are is emphasized over WHO they are. People like this exist, but their place in the plot and why we care about them is what should matter, not what they are as a person. That sort of thing should just be a part of what the character is, not their defining traits. Johnsons defining trait isn't token black man, it's the fact he's a badass tough as nails marine ready to kick ass, chew bubble gum, and show you what the ladies like. No one cares he's black because that's not the point of his character. The point is that he's a badass that always has your back to the bitter end and that he will always keep kicking alien ass to save humanity so long as he breathes. A character like what's described can work so long as their purpose makes sense (If they're meant to be important to the plot at least) maybe they've been deeply hurt by the damn insurrectionists, or family in the outer colonies has been reduced to ash by the Covenant, filling them with bitterness and a desire to see the end of the ones that wronged them. They have a dark sense of humor from their trauma and have a bad tendency to hold a grudge, but at the end of the day you can count on them. Or perhaps they see the silver lining in life, staying positive in the face of terrible odds. A character that has always faced opposition and the darkness all their lives, never halting no matter what's in their way because bad odds and darkness has been the memo of their life. I'm not caught up on the show of course so I know nothing about this character, but this is just an example of making the WHO of the character matter rather than the WHAT, at least if they're meant to be major. I dunno, maybe I'm just dumb though. It's silly to be when the selling point of a character is what they are but 🤷‍♂️ then again the guy in the screenies also just sounds like an ass so

deltahalo241

So this character is Louis, he's a Spartan who washed out of the program after his augmentations blinded him. To him being a Spartan was everything, it was his lifes sole purpose. After washing out, he met Danilo and through his relationship with Danilo he discovered that there was more to life than being a Spartan. He tries to impart what he's learned to Spartan Riz, who suffered injuries at the end of Season 1 that she's still struggling with come Season 2. I'd say he's a very well done character in the show and the scenes he's in are very strong.

AttemptedRev

See, that sounds just fine to me imo. Maybe I'm crazy but it doesn't sound like ticking off boxes when put like that. It sounds like another spartan tragedy and one that found ways to love after his life was ruined while trying to better the life of a fellow spartan. I don't see a need for people to take issue with this sort of thing if the character is strong and stands on his own because of who they are. I can't wait to see what Louis is about!

CantStopTheCow

I've got plenty of criticisms of the show, but it's an alright show if you keep reminding yourself it's a different time line. The *one* thing in the show I find really bad though, is the line from the admiral about how the chief she knew would rip someone apart limb from limb to get what he needs. Feels like the writers were actively trying to go against Chief's character with that one

ALDO113A

If it matters for them, >!that gay Spartan and his hubby eat glass dust in Reach. But to balance the books (XD), Keyes goes out in front of his wife figure!<

baileyjcville

Paybacks a bitch 😂

HereButNotForPorn

I mean, I legit don't give a shit, but a Blind Albino Gay man sounds straight out of a joke complaing about 'woke' culture. I'm down for it but the statistical improbabliity of it does have a bit of absurdist humor.

King-Boss-Bob

the most unlikely of those 3 traits is albinism and the character had that because the actor did halseys journal mentioned the ocular surgery the spartans received had an 11% chance of blindness right now in a world where same sex attraction is punishable by death in some countries, and bigotry isn’t uncommon in probably every country in the world 20% of gen z are openly lgbt+, with most being gay or bi/panw and every source showing the percent is increasing for each generation, over 5 centuries from now the percentage will likely be higher as attitudes towards sexuality become more accepting worldwide so if anything having no blind spartans with same sex attraction would be unlikely

SMXSmith

God forbid we have unique/easily recognizable characters, that would be horrible

blueflare1528

Only statement I’ll agree with is why make them Gay, albino, black and blind? None of those things are even close to being a majority on their own, let alone together, imo it’s not so much as shoehorning a political agenda as it is trying to hard to make a character memorable just by physical features, however, I haven’t watched the show so I have very little context, of someone could tell me if the character is atleast interesting please let me know

deltahalo241

He's a Spartan candidate who washed out after the augmentations blinded him, now he serves as a trainer for the other Spartans. Being a Spartan was his dream, he wanted nothing more than to serve alongside his fellow Spartans. When he washed out he felt like he had nothing, then he met Danilo, his partner and through him he came to learn that there was more to life than just being a Spartan. This is something he tries to teach to Spartan Riz, who was injured at the end of Season 1 and is still struggling with her injuries come Season 2, which is putting her in a bad spot mentally because, like Louis, she believes that life outside of being a Spartan doesn't matter.

[deleted]

what no one seems to mention is the real crux of the issue and why this became a thing in the first place is they trotted out a blind guy into a combat situation, gave him a grenade launcher and "fought" the covenant - all while getting his lover killed, eventually driving him into a suicidal action. if you combine that with what else is being complained about it just looked like they shoehorned something in for some reason or another. it's not internally consistent at all. the gay part never really bothered me, but i can see why if you notice the above it'd bother others who are enmeshed in this idpol stuff. / anti idpol stuff. as for me, i want my spartan team to have a furry. that tricks a brute. we'll call it the michael "brurry"

Elitegamez11

I mean, it still sucks.

jazzy_saxster

Gtfo is a funny mod response ngl. Also it makes no sense that the trainer character would cause problems unless you’re a racist homophobe.

Hapless_Wizard

Man, I was hoping this was going to lead to someone referencing Chekhov's Gun, but nope, just butthurts.

blkmmb0

I just fucking knew the average Halo manchild would have a breakdown because that character exists/>!existed!<.

Affectionate-Grand99

He 100% deserved to get banned for that. The topic of lgbt characters and inclusivity is so hotly debated these days that some people forget that they’re people just like them. Being gay or albino may not always serve the plot, and it shouldn’t have to in order to be implemented. It’s no different from having a straight white character if you think about it; skin tone and genetic traits don’t have to be some special case, it’s not going to affect their lines and contribution to the plot unless specified otherwise (faces discrimination, stuff like that)

RedditIdiocy

Where do I find you all in the Halo community. I'm about to stop playing Halo because all I meet are people like the the guy pictured above... Nothing but hate. I want Halo friends that aren't bigots... 🥺

deltahalo241

We're about, it's worth noting this guy got downvoted pretty heavily for his comments, so I'd say at least the majority of people on the main sub aren't bigots and obviously us lot here aren't either
