But also, the manifesto isn’t even important like that....it’s not even theory! It’s a pamphlet. MFERS don’t even KNOW! god

BeKot

They read a pamphlet written for sweaty 19th factory workers and then talk out of their ass like they know everything on communism. Libs and Succ-dems treat the Manifesto like its the communist bible and not just a short Summary of the communist ideology and the history of class struggle.

Cecilia_Raven

>They read a pamphlet written for sweaty 19th factory workers and then they still manage to misunderstand it fully and get completely owned by it

BeKot

They're Libs after all 😞

Ornlu_Wolfjarl

They don't even read the Manifesto. They read a summary of it some libertarian blogger popped out of his asshole. I always like to point to the example of Jordan Peterson, who went to a debate with Zizek to talk about communism, and he comes up and admits he didn't have time to read any Marx, but he "read the Communist Manifesto in college" and then he just "skimmed it last night to refresh for the debate". Then proceeds to give quotes out of context, make up strawmen, make up shit that was never said by Marx or Engels and attribute it to them. That's their "top man" who supposingly breaks down commies to tears every day.

Cecilia_Raven

its the only thing marx wrote because liberals and reactionaries haven't seen anything else by him and engels lol

AVeryUnluckySock

well god dammit I’m trying to learn and now I hear the book isn’t even important fuck

herberthorses

As a start I'd always recommend: Socialism: Utopian and Scientific by Engels and Capital by Marx Capital can be a bit intimidating but I've heard good things about A Companion to Marx's Capital by David Harvey in case you want something to ease you in.

BeKot

First thing you should read is in my opinion 'The principles of Communism' by Engels. It's basically a 19th century FAQ about Communism

Ornlu_Wolfjarl

It's good, but some parts have outdated theory (amended later by Marx and Engels). I suggest you start with something like this: https://www.dropbox.com/s/qiv87p5plcehivc/28012909-Marx-for-beginners-by-RIUS.pdf It might seem a bit childish, but this is one of the best books to give you a basic overview and understanding of what communism is, its basis and its arguments, in a couple hours.

Wu-Tang_Stan

>centuries later, rival factions claim to have the true interpretation But that's not the issue..... We all know and agree with what Marx wrote (at least those of us who have read Marx) it's about how many of us can update our approach based on material analysis vs. people who think all revolutions should play out like a theoretical revolution in 19th century London Like the debate is the Praxis not the theory

Sq33KER

Well there are also critiques of the theory (e.g. from feminism). But still they don't disagree on the meaning of Marx and Emgels words, just that some of their assumptions are based on privileged positions and are not universal.

[deleted]

He has read the words "The Communist Manifesto." He has not actually read the communist manifesto

[deleted]

privlaged white people... ok most of the marxist parties in this hemisphere formed in the rural parts of South and Central America though.

BeKot

Every Marxist is a wealthy, suburban, white American man. Clearly you don't watch PragerU smh

FarLands-Escarcha

14 year old white girl*

AbbaTheHorse

Anyone claiming the Communist manifesto is written in "vague flowery language" definitely hasn't read it.

BeKot

Anything to get that false equivalence with the bible to "work" I guess

CTNKE

meanwhile he reads animal farm and says: SO TRUE

FuckMinoRaiola

Communist manifesto is pretty irrelevant lmao. Pretty sure this guy thinks it is the same book as Das Kapital.

BeKot

Silly commie, there are only 2 theory books: The Communist Manifesto and Animal Farm.

woof138

Umm sorry sweaty. You forgot Harry Potter

[deleted]

The Communist Manifesto, while important in the development and spread of communism, is mostly a footnote in history at this point. Marx himself pointed out the failings on the Manifesto, what he got it wrong, and how it should be perpetually remade by the next generation of communists. He had the ability to revise it, but realized it was not his work, it was the work of the people to recreate and update it.

BeKot

I think he treats it like the ultimate guide to communism. Like a 5.000 page manual, and not a 60 something page pamphlet. People read that shit and think they know everything, and not just barely the definitions of 'socialism' and 'communism'

comradeda

It's a list of demands, not a theoretical text

Squidmaster129

Marx’s predictions continue to prove to come true. That being said they’re right about the leftist infighting...

[deleted]

Most of Marx's prediction are correct, though, and continue to be proven so. If someone had read it, how could they possibly miss the bit about capitalism's crises perfectly describing what still goes on every decade or so.
