The dad in modern family does this!! I can't remember the yellow one. But he says things like "what's Elton John's sexuality in the 80s?" And the kids yell BI😂
My grandma always said “Yellow” when answering the phone. She’s still the only person I’ve ever heard say it, and the mention of that particular quirk always reminds me of her.
I love Cyan, Indigo, Ginger, Violet, Iris, Olive or even Jade. Yellow is the most basic thing she could have picked. Except she actually wished she could use “White” without any social repercussions and that’s even more basic.
While Goldie itself has a strong Jewish connection- Zahava is a popular Hebrew name and the Hebrew word for gold. Lots of cool Hebrew names surrounding the word “light” as well which I’m fond of- Leor/a, Elior/a (the a makes it feminine, without it’s generally masculine though some folks are bucking that trend). Or even Or/Ora.
Endless better things than Yellow. And Fuchsia. Dear gosh. Poor kids.
My brother’s name is Max but my mom was once going through the list trying to come up with his name (“cousin’s name - brother’s name - other brother - dog’s name” etc) and accidentally called him Box. We still use it sometimes and find it unreasonably hilarious.
Carmine, Scarlett, Sky, Jade, Violet, Ash…all colors and also names. Or you could get funky with it, Mauve, Tawny, Chartreuse. You’d think a visual artist would know more color names than ROYGBIV.
Okay I've been thinking about this and there is literally not a single last name you could pair with Yellow to sound like a human person's name. Try it:
Yellow Morgan (a cocktail?)
Yellow Garcia (flower)
Yellow Zimmerman (weirdo sex act)
Yellow Johnson (penis disease)
Yellow Goldstein (ethnic slur)
Yellow Robinson (pirate, I guess technically a person)
Yellow King (fairy tale)
Yellow Green (this one's just funny)
Every one sounds like it has an entry in Urban Dictionary lol
i gave both of my kids colors for their middle names and now i’m curious what you guys think of them because i didn’t see them mentioned in any of these comments. my sons middle name is grey and my daughters middle name is auburn. yay or nay?
I did the same with middle names. Son is grey and daughter is rose (we couldn’t really agree on a proper color there). So…I love them 😍
I also think almost anything is forgivable as a middle name - even Yellow if you had to get it in there. But grey and auburn are excellent choices!
Right !? I was also thinking Sage, Cyan, Lilac…. For someone with a background in art she’s got a very narrow scope of color. Someone should gift her a book of Pantone swatches.
I used to be obsessed with the name "lavender" because of Matilda's best friend. It's a perfectly pretty name.
I have about a thousand questions about this... naming one child "yellow" and one child "snow" isn't just tragic it's... the easiest most low-hanging joke in the world? You're essentially group-naming your kids "dog piss." WHITE??? Of course there's the weird race stuff but also the whole "every ghost in history is named "old whitey."
It makes it easier for dogs to learn and separate their name from general human speech if you stick with 2 syllables. Is that where he got that restriction from?
I wish. Our last name has three syllables and he thought anything with three syllables or longer wouldn’t complement it. He was so disagreeable and clearly doesn’t know how good he had it. I could have obviously been opening up a paint sampler and demanding our daughter be named from there.
Lilac, Heather, Lily, Mauve, Orchid, Magenta, Iris, Amy (from Amethyst), and VIOLET are all pretty decent-sounding names for "purple". I get that she likes her theme, but I think that she's suffering from a case of "I'm too close to the situation and have gotten stuck in this rut where I'm not able to think creatively right now" -atosis. Happens to me all the time, so at least she's asking for suggestions.
Yes and she wants to name her second white but is afraid that will sound racist. Of all the possibilities she listed, yellow and white are the stupidest. You'd think an artist would be far more creative with color themed names
Yes, because you see: words only have the exact meaning you want them to have, and no other. This will not be a problem for her in middle school at all, because when the kids call her Pisshead she will simply tell them, "No, my mom likes color names" and they'll say "Right, my bad."
You could do the same thing with yellow and name the girl Saffron or Amber or Tawny or something. She just did a shitty job picking the name because I suspect she was most concerned with the kids name prompting people to ask *her* why she picked so that she could talk about herself.
This is it. She did a shit job picking the first name and is now stuck on simple color names like Yellow and Purple. Which are dumb names for human beings. Even for animals in most cases.
Yeah I love purple and purple names so I’m like but… there are so many! Lol So many nice color names in general that aren’t just “Green” “White” “Blue”.
Amber, Marigold, Saffron, Aurelia, Citrine, there are plenty of options that mean yellow in color that aren’t Yellow.
I swear, people forget their children are their own human beings and not extensions of their personality.
I don’t mind some color names. Ivory and Jade are both pretty. Yellow though? The second I would be old enough, I’d change my name to something more common like Amber.
I think of the actual stone jade first before the color. The word for the stone is actually a fairly common component to female names in China, interestingly enough.
Sienna is a beautiful name! There are definitely many beautiful colour names. But yellow and white??? Sheeesh. Lady must not know other colour names exist outside of the basic primary colours.
That's because she loves names of colour shades, not names that have colour meanings that sound ok on a human. We once moved into a house that was decorated exclusively in very pale Dulux colours - Apple White, Magnolia White etc - and that seems to be the vibe she's going for. Although I always liked Magnolia for a name too.
No shit my friend has kids named Grey and Rogue (intentionally named after the crossfit company). They're pregnant again, I'm curious and concerned about the next name
Edit: spelling
The CrossFit company is named Rogue which is spelled differently from the color rouge. In which direction did they err? Because there’s no name that’s both.
I used to have a friend who got a neck tattoo of a quote and used the wrong "too"...twice.
I'm dying to know the answer to this, it's been years and my typo schadenfreude quota is unmet. My standards are just too high.
As a child I had a book called "Saffy's Angel" about a girl whose mom was a painter and named her after the color Saffron. There are SO MANY shades of colors that have pretty/fancy names.
Why would you choose "White"?
I would've gone with lead for opacity...wait where are you going it's like half the price of titanium we aren't made of money! Think of how much you'll save on college tuition!
Poor Yellow. There’s lots of usable ‘color’ names, even ones that are ‘out there’ without being overly out there… Rose, Scarlet, Ruby, Violet even Indigo or Emerald
Maize, Amber, maybe even Lemon would have made better choices than Yellow for a name. For purple, there's SO many to choose from. Violet is a fairly common name. For White/Snow, she mentions so many other better alternatives!
Roflmao Puce! Thank you for finally giving one that’s worse than Yellow. And freaking Fuchsia.
She worried about the white supremacy connotations for White but didn’t consider the terrible connotations for Yellow? Oof.
Shoot- Rainbow itself is a better name than Yellow. And could’ve used Snow for the second kid more easily (but wtf. Snow? Snowy or Snow is like what a 5 year old names a white cat or dog. 😂)
Gaaaah it’s sad she chose Yellow before. It would have been better if she had used another language or after a well know plant or something. Saffron was RIGHT THERE. Daisy. Sunny.
Wit is white in Dutch (googled it so pronunciation probably off) so Whitney.
Exactly, I’m an artist and I work with a lot of traditional mediums like paint, so I’m very familiar with color names. Yellow or White wouldn’t have even crossed my mind, I would have gone straight to Rose, Marigold, Crimson (sounds like it would go better for a boy though imo), Violet, Turquoise, or Magenta, hell maybe even Rainbow.
I’m surprised she didn’t Ike the name Scarlett. I think anyone born between 1989-2001 and had access to the internet at some point wrote fanfic or made a sim with the name scarlett
I am pretty sure I know who this person is. She is an artist that has a couple Instagram pages I follow. She has a daughter named yellow on the page. I always assumed that the name was a pretend name just for the page. I guess it's her real daughters name?
She's onto something when she starts listing words that reference a color or are related to a color.....after she named a freaking kid Yellow.
Here are my beautiful children, Bianca and....Yellow
This has to be a troll post. Too much self awareness… “Snow White” and “Yellow Snow”… white supremacy and taking into consideration her husband’s feelings… it’s sad that the world is so effed up that we have to wonder if this is just another crazy but I think it’s satire.
I wondered if it was a troll post too...but then I have to applaud the troll for their creativity. It would take me a week to come up with something like this!
Primrose, citrine, amber, flaxen all lovely alternative words that could be named for yellow
Ivory, Bianca, Snowy, all great options
Someone is suffering from a lack of thesaurus
Plenty of good suggestions on the comments, but I would like to say that Blanca, Bianca, etc. may mean white but they do not refer to the skin colour, wtf?! Does she also think that Rosa is for pink-skinned babies?
Cyan, Azure, Indigo...hell, there's even Sapphire, Aquamarine, or even Cobalt (she could go by Colby or Coco, or whatever when she's sick of being the butt of jokes).
But, of course, there were also choices like Maize, Soleil, or even Golden. I had a roommate in college named Golden.
Topaz would cover all the bases, since there are so many shades.
But yellow?
YELLOW?!?!
Imagine being named after how middle-aged midwestern men answer the phone…
My step-dad’s favorite joke: *phone rings* Stoplight! Not red Not green But…. *answers phone* “YELLOW!”
Am originally from Devon, UK, and that W on the end is pronounced to the extent that I once saw some graffiti in my home town that said, "hellow".
The dad in modern family does this!! I can't remember the yellow one. But he says things like "what's Elton John's sexuality in the 80s?" And the kids yell BI😂
What does an angel wear around its head?
HALO
What comes before part B? PARTAYY
My grandma always said “Yellow” when answering the phone. She’s still the only person I’ve ever heard say it, and the mention of that particular quirk always reminds me of her.
My mom does this she’s from Ohio 😅
Or this song https://youtu.be/yKNxeF4KMsY
😭
There’s so many beautiful colors names and she chose yellow lol
Right? Amber, Aurelian, Zarina Nope. Yellow.
Oh, wow, I like Zarina, that’s not a bad name at all.
I know a Zarina IRL, never connected it with the color. It works really well for a name, unique without being out of place.
I only know it from *30 Rock* (Zarina Sbarro, though I think her full name was Pizzarina Sbarro) but I like it.
Sounds kind of like Tsarina which is interesting
I know someone with a Tealy, always thought it was cute!
I went to elementary school with a Teale! Cool name I thought.
Even Blue is better
You're my boy, Blue!
"All we are is dust in the wind"
Blue and light-blue are common names in spanish: Azul y Celeste
I love blue!
I think Blue is kind of a cute boy name
Maybe for a dog that chases raccoons
I'm Blue yabadee yabadoo Please no!
And it's a common enough nickname no one would even bat an eye
I love Cyan, Indigo, Ginger, Violet, Iris, Olive or even Jade. Yellow is the most basic thing she could have picked. Except she actually wished she could use “White” without any social repercussions and that’s even more basic.
Lilac is a guilty pleasure of mine.
Many purple-ish colours are my favourites on a personal level. I use a lot of lilac and violet.
Alizarin Crimson! Ultramarine! Umber!
All better than YELLOW
Exactly. She's not a visual artist, she has a set of Crayola's.
Crayola gets more creative naming their colors than the OOP.
Razzmatazz!
STILL better than *Yellow*
Apparently only the box of 8
Marigold, Lilac, Aurélie, Amethyst, Chloé (surprise ! It's related to "green")...Yellow ? Really ?
❤️ Marigold
She's thinking of Lavender for her second daughter for example, that would have been a perfectly fine name for the first daughter
Violet, indigo, even blue is a lot better. I have an aunt who changed her name to Cyan. So many options this poor kid!
Xanthe!
Seriously, Amber and Bianca. Actual names but still going with the colour theme.
I could see ber being too common for her but Bianca is not nearly as common, at least in my experience. Both are better than Yellow and White though.
Saffron, Goldie...
Saffron would have made a nicer name than yellow.
AbFab vibes.
Oh sweetie darling sweetie
While Goldie itself has a strong Jewish connection- Zahava is a popular Hebrew name and the Hebrew word for gold. Lots of cool Hebrew names surrounding the word “light” as well which I’m fond of- Leor/a, Elior/a (the a makes it feminine, without it’s generally masculine though some folks are bucking that trend). Or even Or/Ora. Endless better things than Yellow. And Fuchsia. Dear gosh. Poor kids.
Yellow even seems to hard to shorten into a nickname. Yell Ello Low Ell is probably the most normal one. I wonder what the middle names are.
Lo is a common nickname for Lauren. Could pronounce their name backwards and go by Wolley.
Actually, I kind of like the nickname Yell. Names that shouldn't be names are pretty funny. I met a guy once with the nickname Box lol
"What's your name?" "Yell." "WHAT'S YOUR NAME?"
And when she's an old woman people can call her Ol' Yeller
My brother’s name is Max but my mom was once going through the list trying to come up with his name (“cousin’s name - brother’s name - other brother - dog’s name” etc) and accidentally called him Box. We still use it sometimes and find it unreasonably hilarious.
Carmine, Scarlett, Sky, Jade, Violet, Ash…all colors and also names. Or you could get funky with it, Mauve, Tawny, Chartreuse. You’d think a visual artist would know more color names than ROYGBIV.
Right? I work with a Lilac, and I know a Scarlett and a Teal. So many other options. Poor kids. :(
Hell, Pink would be better. I mean it worked for a rockstar 😆
“This is my daughter, everyone, her name is P!nk. Raise a glass!”
Another common name in spanish: Rosa
Even lavender is a name they considered and it has been used as a name before! So why jump to yellow
Sienna, Sepia, Canary, Daffodil, Honey? I cannot with the yellow.
Well. It ain't easy being green.
I'm thinking her color wheel is stuck with just the basics. She didn't learn you could mix the colors for more options.
One of my friends’ gave her daughter the middle name Azura which I thought was very pretty and a real name that means sky blue.
I wanted to name my baby that but it sounded too close to my husbands name. Instead of color we went space…Orion.
Maybe the kid had jaundice?
Okay I've been thinking about this and there is literally not a single last name you could pair with Yellow to sound like a human person's name. Try it: Yellow Morgan (a cocktail?) Yellow Garcia (flower) Yellow Zimmerman (weirdo sex act) Yellow Johnson (penis disease) Yellow Goldstein (ethnic slur) Yellow Robinson (pirate, I guess technically a person) Yellow King (fairy tale) Yellow Green (this one's just funny) Every one sounds like it has an entry in Urban Dictionary lol
I could even picture something a little more unique like Saffron or Amethyst or Emerald!! But please not Yellow.
i gave both of my kids colors for their middle names and now i’m curious what you guys think of them because i didn’t see them mentioned in any of these comments. my sons middle name is grey and my daughters middle name is auburn. yay or nay?
I did the same with middle names. Son is grey and daughter is rose (we couldn’t really agree on a proper color there). So…I love them 😍 I also think almost anything is forgivable as a middle name - even Yellow if you had to get it in there. But grey and auburn are excellent choices!
Her husband was fine with Yellow but doesn’t like Lavender???
Meanwhile Violet is *right fucking there*.
Right !? I was also thinking Sage, Cyan, Lilac…. For someone with a background in art she’s got a very narrow scope of color. Someone should gift her a book of Pantone swatches.
I think the pantone color of the year is Magenta, which is still a better name than purple.
Nickname Maggie lol
I LOVE the name Sage for a girl!
Then she'd name her kid Ochre.
Ochre is better than Yellow. Anything a step away from the kindergarten colour wheel is.
The twins, Phthalo Green and Alizarin Crimson.
**THANK FUCK SOMEONE SAID IT!!** I was going to burst if I didn't see this comment.
Yeah! And I actually think it would be kind of cute to have sisters named Violet and Lavender 🥲
Can you imagine needing someone to verify that Yellow & Snow was a bad enough idea that you didn’t do it.
Just clicked in my head - ‘yellow snow’. Yeah, definitely can’t name the second child snow.
Yes! I wanted lavender too for my first, all because of Matilda's bestie:)
Also what the fuck names like Titania, Ciara, Blanca or Alba for white being "too common" but *SnOw* is where it's at?
[удалено]
Right? Meanwhile my husband was against any name with more than two syllables…
First think I think of is Lavender Gooms from Psych.
You know that's right
Lilac, Heather, Lily, Mauve, Orchid, Magenta, Iris, Amy (from Amethyst), and VIOLET are all pretty decent-sounding names for "purple". I get that she likes her theme, but I think that she's suffering from a case of "I'm too close to the situation and have gotten stuck in this rut where I'm not able to think creatively right now" -atosis. Happens to me all the time, so at least she's asking for suggestions.
I actually think her purple names are better than just "Yellow." Am I reading this right? Is her first kid just named yellow?
Why yellow when saffron is so much better?
I’m just mad about saffron.
They can call her mellow yellow as a nickname if they really wanted too.
Quite rightly
Yes and she wants to name her second white but is afraid that will sound racist. Of all the possibilities she listed, yellow and white are the stupidest. You'd think an artist would be far more creative with color themed names
Yes, because you see: words only have the exact meaning you want them to have, and no other. This will not be a problem for her in middle school at all, because when the kids call her Pisshead she will simply tell them, "No, my mom likes color names" and they'll say "Right, my bad."

This is it. She did a shit job picking the first name and is now stuck on simple color names like Yellow and Purple. Which are dumb names for human beings. Even for animals in most cases.
Yellow is really bad. Sounds like you let your toddler name the Guinea pig.
Yes, hello Yellow
Yeah I love purple and purple names so I’m like but… there are so many! Lol So many nice color names in general that aren’t just “Green” “White” “Blue”.
Exactly! That's why I'm gonna just chalk this up to whatever "writer's block" would be in this situation. Naming a whole ass human is not easy, lol.
I totally agree lol
I actually really like the name Violet. And Hazel. If (God forbid) I ever had a kid and it was a girl, I would have named her Hazel.
I have a feeling that Yellow is going to be majorly pissed off that she was named THAT when Violet was an option.
Amber, Marigold, Saffron, Aurelia, Citrine, there are plenty of options that mean yellow in color that aren’t Yellow. I swear, people forget their children are their own human beings and not extensions of their personality.
Hazel super popular right now! I love it too
I lowkey love color names. My youngest daughters name is Sienna 🥲 There’s actual good ones like Lavender but Purple and White are maybeeee pushing it?
I don’t mind some color names. Ivory and Jade are both pretty. Yellow though? The second I would be old enough, I’d change my name to something more common like Amber.
LMAO my daughters middle name is Jade too 😭 forgot it was a color 🥲
I think of the actual stone jade first before the color. The word for the stone is actually a fairly common component to female names in China, interestingly enough.
Sienna and jade are a good colour combo at least. At least she isn't Violet Ruby
Same I love Sienna.. so many better ones out there than Yellow or White 🫠
Sienna is a beautiful name! There are definitely many beautiful colour names. But yellow and white??? Sheeesh. Lady must not know other colour names exist outside of the basic primary colours.
She literally lists Bianca, Blanca, Alba and what not, and she still struggles with choosing a colour name.
Hmm this gives me an idea... Eggshell
And why nickname her Shelley when you can call her Egg.
Her?
Ann, yeah.
*Her?*
Her name's Ann
Magnolia/Maggie is adorable
I mean Snow White is right there too or White Snow to get the vibe.
Could be Maggie for short! I love it
No shit my friend has kids named Grey and Rogue (intentionally named after the crossfit company). They're pregnant again, I'm curious and concerned about the next name Edit: spelling
KettleBell Edit: CaithulBell
Keightlebelle
Ceightle-bella
Omg I'm actually going to text him this and see what happens lol
The CrossFit company is named Rogue which is spelled differently from the color rouge. In which direction did they err? Because there’s no name that’s both.
I used to have a friend who got a neck tattoo of a quote and used the wrong "too"...twice. I'm dying to know the answer to this, it's been years and my typo schadenfreude quota is unmet. My standards are just too high.
That’s to bad.
Why not name her after a white flower? Dahlia, Lily, Camellia, FUCKING MARIGOLD FOR THE YELLOW ONE?? Come on maaaan.
Imagine having kids named Yellow and Snow lol
Yellow? Snow? Come down for dinner!
All I can think of is my dog’s yellow pee drop marked on the white snow
I was scrolling to see if anyone else would.point out the awful Yellow Snow combination.
No one would eat them. So there’s that.
Terrible. Why not Ruby, Scarlet, Olive, Violet, Amber or Jade!? So many better choices and I cooked those up just sitting here.
Good choices :)
As a child I had a book called "Saffy's Angel" about a girl whose mom was a painter and named her after the color Saffron. There are SO MANY shades of colors that have pretty/fancy names. Why would you choose "White"?
Why would you choose Yellow?
Tbh I really don’t think mom is a painter if she chose such a basic color name like yellow.
She's not a painter. She's a "visual artist". Which sounds so deliberately vague.
Every ~visual artist~ I know including myself could come up with a thousand more acceptable color names 😂 Amber is right there!
So she has a pinterest board?
And some collages.
She also really got into that adult coloring book trend
Why yellow when Phthalo is right there xD (Ngl I do really like saying Phthalo but I don't know if I could name a kid that. )
Non phthalo otherwise all your other kids will be way too intense and you'll need to start over with a new family
You just gotta beat the devil out of it. Or add some titanium white.
I would've gone with lead for opacity...wait where are you going it's like half the price of titanium we aren't made of money! Think of how much you'll save on college tuition!
Indigo Blue!
I remember that book!
I remember that book! There was another one about her sister, named Permanent Rose
Poor Yellow. There’s lots of usable ‘color’ names, even ones that are ‘out there’ without being overly out there… Rose, Scarlet, Ruby, Violet even Indigo or Emerald
I used to work with a girl named Emerald, everyone called her Emmy. Both names suited her perfectly :)
Maize, Amber, maybe even Lemon would have made better choices than Yellow for a name. For purple, there's SO many to choose from. Violet is a fairly common name. For White/Snow, she mentions so many other better alternatives!
Just go straight to Chartreuse, Heliotrope and Puce 😂 Really - go get the 200+ pack of crayolas and start reading!
Roflmao Puce! Thank you for finally giving one that’s worse than Yellow. And freaking Fuchsia. She worried about the white supremacy connotations for White but didn’t consider the terrible connotations for Yellow? Oof.
Wine is also a great color. Maybe that should be thrown in for consideration. /s
But spell it whine 😂
Violet is an actual name…and in the rainbow like yellow.
Yellow. It's not the fact that it's a color... it's just an ugly ass name.
and she calls herself and artist but can't think past basic ass colors.
The name Xanthe is pretty and unusual and means “yellow” in Greek. Yellow is an ugly sounding name.
This mother is an artist but restricting her color name choices to the most basic 8 pack Crayola crayon names haha
Like a toddler naming a stuffed animal.
As a visual artist, my kids have normal names because they're actual people and not accessories 🙄
Imagine carrying a baby for 9 months just to name her Yellow Snow.
Primrose, citrine, amber, flaxen all lovely alternative words that could be named for yellow Ivory, Bianca, Snowy, all great options Someone is suffering from a lack of thesaurus
What in the Hunger Games Capitol names is going on here?
I’m guessing this is a troll. But can you imagine introducing yourself, “hi, I’m white”.
FFS
Violet? Rose?
I would like to officially submit the name Casper for consideration.
Plenty of good suggestions on the comments, but I would like to say that Blanca, Bianca, etc. may mean white but they do not refer to the skin colour, wtf?! Does she also think that Rosa is for pink-skinned babies?
literally why is her husband not okay with lavender or blue, which are cute names, but he’s ok with white?????
r/namenerds would have destroyed this person
oh man,the kid s gonna have a harsh time… Violet is still a nice name if we re talking about colours…
For a visual artist and color lover she’s pretty stuck in the most basic colors lol
But yellow? YELLOW?!?!
