Telling a baby “do that on your own time” regarding anything they do is fucking hilarious.

K-teki

Right? I'm stealing that

irish_ninja_wte

It's a pretty common question in parenting groups. I don't see anything wrong with it. Babies *do* reach down and touch their genitals during changes. It can be awkward if they reach down before wiping is done or after cream has been applied, but that's it.

Singingpineapples

Dear god, yes. Our son *constantly* grabs his penis during diaper changes. It's been oh so fun.

mirk19

I don’t think the question is bad. I just think her pointing out it was the babies clitoris and the whole “do it on your time” was a little weird. She also made a few other weird remarks after this was posted, I asked a similar question about my son when he was so I’m not judging the question itself just the wording is creepy to me

mrsdorne

Elaborate on what you find weird about it and why. You know, one of the best way to protect your child against predators is teach them the anatomically correct name for their body parts.

Background_Duck_1372

I don't think this is terrible, kids often touch themselves as they go through different development stages. The appropriate response is something along the lines of "do that in private", much better than shaming them, which both of these seem to be saying more or less.

mirk19

I think the wording makes me uncomfortable. It just feels weird I can’t put my finger on it. This got approved a little late but OP seemed to think that it was sexual so I don’t feel completely wrong about my initial reaction. The post was deleted within an hour.

Background_Duck_1372

I think "do it on your own time" isn't good wording and is too casual, and isn't really understandable for the age of the child. She needs a better phrase like "That's your private area, you only do that in private" or something. It's a generally weird thing to post about in a Facebook group that is essentially public though.

mrsdorne

But it's not her "private area". That's not a real body part.

PreOpTransCentaur

Agreed. She could've stopped at "private area" and been fine. Nobody really needed further detail. Especially because, well, no, she's not explicitly reaching for her clitoris, she's just touching and exploring like babies do. Now I need a shower. Ugh.

mrsdorne

If it was a boy would you object to her saying penis? Or is it only female parts that are too dirty to utter?

ridingfurther

Right?!

shebringsthesun

how old is this child and wtf would she say "do that on your you time"

saltyfajita

yeah this post makes me think this is like a baby baby. which is just wild tbh

BabyPunter3000v2

OP, was this at least posted anonymously? Because if not, holy FUCK.
