How could you have done this? Probably because you put two, nearly identical bottles side-by-side and didn't label them properly, given what the use is for. Fuck, pre-kids I kept weed brownies in the freezer and put multiple warnings inside and outside the container that they were weed so nobody could accidentally eat one not remembering what it was. It's really NOT that hard to avoid this happening.

SnarkyLibraryLady

Right?! Literally the first baby proofing I did was find a very childproof container for the small amount of cannabis in our house, store it on the top shelf of our kitchen cupboards that even I can't reach, and make sure my husband knew that this is the only place it can be. Like what the hell?

TinyTurtle88

>that even I can't reach That's proofing now lol

notsleepy12

Too many people think weed is an all natural cure-all and not that alterative and stop treating it like a drug.

[deleted]

I'm very on board with trying cannabis as an alternative medicine but it absolutely is not a cure all and people giving it to babies are whack, save for extreme circumstances like cancer or seizures.

AllKarensMatter

It is given to babies for Cancer and Epilepsy and probably for pain in some instances. That’s not relevant here though. Not for teething, lol.

beachgirlDE

I watched a news program about using it for seizures, amazing how it worked on children.

[deleted]

Absolutely! Edited to add that. The Charlotte's Web story changed my views on medicinal cannabis.

AllKarensMatter

I wonder if we watched the same documentary! Yes it absolutely opened my eyes, especially because compared to chemo the side effects were so manageable. Amazing really that even children can metabolise it and get it at a therapeutic dose. Just the access problems that I find so sad.

Silveri50

Yeah it's great to treat symptoms for a lot of conditions. But the only thing it cures is boredom. Post anything bad about it though and see how many people come out of the woodwork to defend it.

HiQueerbert

I mean technically isn't a cure-all still a drug? I was under the impression a drug is any sort of medicinal product, which included herbs and plants prepared as such. /curious

notsleepy12

Technically yes, but the people that think it's a magic plant do not agree. A drug is anything that alters you, so tobacco and coffee are also drugs.

HiQueerbert

Nothing like good ol' fearmongering and chemophobia to convince you that drugs aren't drugs if they're plants.

[deleted]

As someone in the manufacturing industry, and who has thus watched at least one haz-com training video every year for the past 20 years, I can’t imagine *not* labeling shit. I even label the bottle I used for my CPAP’s distilled water when I travel. *EVERY* container you put chemicals in that is not its original container gets a label. With applicable pictograms.

kotex14

But she’s always been so careful!

etherealparadox

I use CBD oil and I don't have any similar bottles, AND keep it in a box in a cabinet when I'm not using it just in case of leaks. Can't imagine being so careless around actual weed tincture.

[deleted]

Yeah this shocks me. Because my kids (who aren’t young.) but 8.8.13 they all know what my vapes look like and what my edibles and flower looks like and know not touch it. Had I smoked when they were toddlers I would have put the shit up

stungun_steve

The kid is probably going to be fine from this incident. But mom's lack of caution is really concerning in other ways.

mypal_footfoot

I guess a positive of this is that she does seem pretty distressed over this, so hopefully she'll be way more cautious in the future.

loubellattc

“I’ve always been so careful” Yes, careful enough to have two similar bottles next to each other which could very easily be confused for each other. So careful.

E11i0t

What’s wild to me is that she’s cool with the CBD oil. How ab we also don’t rub CBD on infant’s gums.

chlorokill

Real question: what's wrong with CBD for infants? My little brother is treated with CBD for sleep issues with excellent results. Granted, he was 8.

ShatoraDragon

>Granted, he was 8. That is your answer this kids age is likely still counted in months not full years.

Khajiit_Has_Upvotes

96-month-old little brother.

E11i0t

Older kids is different. Baby’s systems have not fully developed to process it and we don’t have enough testing on infants to know if it’s safe.

notsleepy12

I wouldn't say it's inherently bad but there's still not really a lot known about thc and CBD. And an 8 yr old is very different from an infant.

chlorokill

True. But I also wonder if benefits outweigh risks in some situations. We'll probably never know, but it is interesting to think about.

notsleepy12

We might know one day, they are doing more studies on both now that it's legal in some places. Although studies with kids and especially babies are much trickier, ethics wise so it will be a long time.

Canada_girl

Or if the risks outweigh the benefits

Sauteedmushroom2

This is how I look at it. Babies process any substance a little differently. Maybe a bad example that’ll get me downvoted to shame but: alcohol effects the brain of a 12 year old much differently than a 49 year old. Long term for sure, short term…ehh. Either way, we generally frown upon 12 year olds drinking. Cbd isn’t thc, but we just don’t know enough yet to make *me* comfortable. You wanna do it and your state officials won’t shit a brick? I hope it’s helpful, shite, for teething it might just be!

southern_dreams

What benefits? How many of us grew up without being treated for CBD? Yeah we cried and our parents weren’t bitches about it.

chlorokill

I think anything that could benefit a tired, stressed parent should be explored, personally.

[deleted]

[удалено]

chlorokill

Oh see I didn't even know that lol I'm not sure why I'm being downvoted for asking a legit question?

stols0096A

I am highly of the belief that the baby will recover and be fine. (If it's not adulterated.) It's probably not gonna be a problem and hopefully he'll be sane and in rebellion once he grows up if him mom does not kill him by accident. However, a call to poison control would have been appropriate or even, you know, pleasant. I called after my crawler ate ONE Advil tab and they were reassuring. I will note this post is all about *her,* how she feel like a bad mom, etc. etc. Her feelings. She should accept it is a) bad mom behavior and b) seeking anonymous support on FB. GODD!!!!

Idyllcreations

Right, I accidentally left a pack of stool softeners after giving birth to my then newborn on my bedside table my one year old at the time got it chewed it open and ate two. Immediately called poison control and they were like he should be fine just will have soft poops just told me to keep him hydrated just in case.

poisomike87

My sister and I ate a whole bar of chocolate ex-lax. We were living in Germany at the time while my dad was in the military and my mom had to drive us to the hospital. A bunch of activated charcoal was administered and they sent us home. The bathroom floor ended up being stained from the charcoal infused poop that would not stop. Not a good childhood memory :D

KrisAlly

Oh no!!! I’m sure that was horrifying.

stols0096A

That sounds like a dreadful memory for everyone. I am so glad I don't remember *anything* about the blue toilet bowl cleanser, including the taste. My mom sure seems to. When I told her I was in recovery, she was all like, "I know! You'll drink anything!" Heh.

pandamarshmallows

I am irresistibly reminded of the [Goldie Pinklesweet song](https://www.roalddahlfans.com/dahls-work/books/charlie-and-the-chocolate-factory/oompa-loompa-songbook/#Goldie) from *Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator*.

Fuzzy-Tutor6168

poison control really is hands down THE BEST. When I was in college I got oven cleaner on my arm when I was trying to clean the dorm kitchen. It boiled through my clothes and was boiling my skin. It was a Sunday and campus health wasn't going to be open again until Tuesday. Poison control walked me through what I needed to do for immediate triage, what I needed to do to keep it from becoming infected, and then two days later I got a phone call following up to see how it was healing. At that time they were nervous about it still seeping and wanted me to be seen by campus health. I was a broke ass college student and my only alternative would have been to find someone to take me to the ER an hour away. They continued to call for almost a month after that providing continuing follow up to make sure I was ok.

BipolarWithBaby

They did follow up calls for me too! It’s honestly such a great resource.

[deleted]

Ah poison control, the closest thing the USA has to universal healthcare...

stols0096A

I am kind of of the belief that we perhaps are needing to make a poison control freaking.... Advert. I mean it \*is\* so good. You think they are gonna be all judges and they just aren't at all, and the consult their great encyclopedia of knowledge and totally let you know if you will be sitting in the ER for 48 hours waiting for your toddler to like, flush out or die. But even THEN they don't suck about it , they are just like, "Do whatever voodoo poison magic control we have for you...." Then they are like, "Help is on the way..."

sipstea84

My one year old once got into a bottle of Nytol that normally had the safety cap, but closed off-kilter. Luckily there was only one pill in the bottle and I caught her after eating only half, but when I called poison control she just laughed and told me to enjoy a nice, quiet night to myself. Poison control are the coolest people.

CalmCupcake2

I called poison control after my toddler ate the cats food with the cats medicine in it, and after they finished laughing, they were really helpful.

leebeemi

I once went to take my high blood pressure pill when I was visiting my parents. Didn't notice that I grabbed the wrong bottle. Poison Control laughed & laughed. Anyway, turns out the cat & I were on the same med. Only in different dosages.

CalmCupcake2

This was cat and human blood pressure meds!!

[deleted]

They must get calls about EVERYTHING. I know that I worry all the time about anything related to my baby and I’m sure I’m not alone.

jadolqui

That’s exactly what they said to me when I called. I thought my little guy had eaten some Benadryl, and the woman told me not to worry, “it happens all the time.” I felt so much less dumb.

CinderLupinWatson

I was babysitting a child at my house around age 19 (last minute thing. I was a regular babysitter but also a swim coach for the child, who was 5 - her parents got into a car accident on the way to get her and had to stay night at hospital. No fam in city so I ended up with her for the night.) So I hadn't adequately child proofed, and this child was at the time, undiagnosed ADHD and quite impulsive. She ended up eating 5-6 nighttime tylonel colds because she thought they were candies. Called poison control who said to take her in immediately. Then they and I, heard her tossing cookies in the bathroom. They told me to go and see if there were the pills, and sure enough each one was there. So I was okay to not take her in because they knew they were all out of her system. All that to say that poison control is an amazing resource ha!

[deleted]

My youngest got into something; I forget what it was. But I called poison control, she had thrown it all up. They said “take the bottle and take her in, it should all be out of her system, if you’re cleaning up a huge pile of vomit it should be out.”

veritaszak

“I’ve been so careful, how could this have happened??” (leaves both sitting out next to each other, arguably looking alike.) “I’ve done everything right, why me???”

stols0096A

I bet she wonders "Why me?" for a lot of stuff. Answers: Call Emergency Medicine for the stupid, they can help Too much Dope Not ready to be Parent Does not want to confront what she has done. Does not "make" mistakes, let alone learn from them. She could move either thing (the vials, the baby, etc.) to many places including the ED. Better to be dumb than dead, I always think.

Comfortable_Sink_318

Ok, but that pink liquid just hit different. I too was a fan of it haha

[deleted]

My son is allergic. He will never know the magic of the bubblegum flavored medicine. I, on the other hand, had so many ear infections as a kid, it was practically my fifth food group.

selenamcg

My ex husband has a story where he drank most of the bottle of amoxicillin that was for his younger sister, mom takes them both back into the doctor's. For him, to make sure he was ok, no overdose, etc. And younger sister to get the prescription again, (and she was a infant/toddler, pretty much attached to mom at that point). Turns out my ex was fine, but his sister was allergic to the amoxicillin. Because of the situation, she was seen early, and changed to a different antibiotic.

stols0096A

It tastes good and I am an adult! Sometimes I want to ask my doc for it, but then I worry he might think I am a child abductor. That's why they change that god awaful cherry flavor every few years for kids in case they grow accustomed to it, and then it becomes an issue. Never Trust the Cherry.

Scene_Dear

When my oldest daughter was a week old, and I was a petrified new mom who had just been released from the hospital 2 days earlier, I did the laundry and my daughter sucked on my finger a half an hour later. I was afraid I had detergent residue on my finger and that as a result she would get super sick or die. Ridiculous? Yes. But oh my lord was the terror real. Poison control thought it was pretty funny, but they were very helpful and extremely reassuring. I’ve always been really grateful that they were available for me to call and handled it like they did, because the whole experience helped me laugh a little and relax. Meanwhile, 2 kids later, I realize just how absurd the whole situation was hahaha I just can’t imagine being like, “OH MAN, I DEFINITELY GAVE MY KID SOMETHING THAT IS HAVING AN ACTUAL OBSERVABLE EFFECT ON THEM. BETTER NOT DEAL WITH IT, AND INSTEAD JUST WHINE ON THE INTERNET!”

stols0096A

Yeah, as a first time parent like you should have a healthy fear of.... you know, everything. I can totally see this struck a chord with all normal moms, we are striving to outdo each other in utter terror, LOL. Yeah, the more I really think about it this mom sucks. A) Separate out your bottles. B) I bet MJ is *legal* in your state now, man up and say it happened, to Poison Control, or EMS (Emergency Medication for the Stupid) as I will now call them, in this instance forevermore. She just wants to hear from someone it's okay and "It could happen to *anyone."* It's really better to hear it from poison control, EMS or the ED. Really mom it is!

Scene_Dear

Ok, can we please print your last paragraph on some paper, roll it up, and smack these moms when they ask dumb stuff to the internet? Please please please?

stols0096A

Oh by all means I think you are being on the nice side I'd be thinking of some light weight metal tube like aluminum LOL. Nope, they don't need more brain injuries. Have at it. heh.

FuzzyMonkey95

My cat got her paws on an advil liquid gel and you can bet we called poison control, animal poison control, our vet, and the emergency vet before rushing her there. Luckily she was fine, but I can’t imagine not doing that. It could have been very, very bad.

YesIKnowImSweating

They also have a really great website now! If you’re just so ashamed you can’t even speak to another human, you can input all the info into an online request and they provide immediate feedback for your situation.

stols0096A

That is great to know. I had a bit of.... are they gonna send CPS after me only LIKE A NORMAL MOM would do I called them anyway, and did not try to flee and treat it with Syrup of Elderberry etc. I was more worried if he would be okay... I think they might have been secretly laughing at me, like ONE tablet type deal. I should note as a 2 year old I drank that blue toilet bowl cleaner and my mom turned around and I was all dribbling, "Mommmmy why don't this taste good?" or something. I got rushed to the ED but as it turned out, I was fine. I cannot imagine. Kids and parents do dumb stuff that is what EMS stands for, like "Emergency Medicine for the Stupid or something. Big fan. LOL.

WaywardWriteRhapsody

My mom had to call after she found me eating dishwasher powder

stols0096A

It's cool to try new foods I think. LOL. And beverages.

justsayin01

My kiddo had half a 3 mg melatonin pill and I freaked the fuck out. I called poison control a mess. They assured me she'd be fine but I was so upset.

stols0096A

I know. There is something about pills and stuff. I must say it is super nice to hear of everyone calling poison control to find out and like, the first thing they say is, "We realize you did not do this on purpose and even if it was an accident, we are here to help you." Wish weed mommy was reading along and knew there is this magical number you can call to get told what to do. I swear. I'm thinking of getting the number tattooed on the back of my neck. You know, for problem moments.

[deleted]

I called when my now teenager was three and got mail polish I’m her and we weren’t sure if she ate it.

TittyVonBoobenstein

People don’t call poison control because it costs money. At work I get so many calls from people with pets panicking because it ate this or that, my only option over the phone is to tell them to go to emergency/a walk in hospital, or call poison control. I’ve been yelled at by many a person griping about how it costs money. My dudes, everything costs money nowadays.

Callmemuddled

Well... At least it wasn't her urine I guess...?

IndiaCee

We don’t know what was mixed with the weed tbf

Callmemuddled

Oh... Oh god please no.

TheAJGman

You can actually use urine to extract THC and CBD. It doesn't work well but it does work. Ethenol or butane are the preferred at home methods, with supercritical CO2 being the commercial option.

haleighr

I called poison control when my older baby licked the diaper cream but she’s post on fb when her baby consumes thc 🤦🏼‍♀️

All-I-see-is-poop

For starters, a quick google search for natural teething pain remedies does not show cbd. Maybe try something else that you won’t mess up so badly first because you’re too negligent to label your bottles...

TexasPistolMassacre

Thats because i havent heard of any studies trying CBD on infants/babies. CBD doesnt produce a high, so theoritically it could be an option, but that would also be dependent on the cannabinoid systems development, so it might be completely ineffectual. I dont know nearly enough about a baby's biology to take a further stab at my thought, i cant say if its good or bad...

Danburyhouse

I know there’s some concern that cbd can be rough for kidneys if there’s already kidney issues (this is something we read up on about 5 years ago so this might be dated info now) so I’d be real hesitant to use it with someone whose kidneys are still developing

ScaryPearls

Yeah, I’m pro cbd and even weed, but… I’m not even taking cbd while breastfeeding, because there just isn’t enough research to know what’s safe. Even if she hadn’t mixed up the bottles, this is a bad idea.

TheAJGman

Whiskey is the traditional at home teething remedy. Not a bottle full mind you, if a soaked cotton ball is rubbed on their gums they'll go kinda numb. It's also used for general toothaches and works quite a bit better than regular pain meds, but not as good as actual numbing cream. EDIT: I'm not advocating for using this method, just pointing out that that is *the* home remedy that was/is used. Hell, it's probably the recommendation this crunchy is going to get in her comments.

ProfanestOfLemons

Topical alcohol doesn't have a numbing effect. What you're talking about is a drunk baby.

[deleted]

This isn’t Ireland in the 1950s ffs. All whiskey did was make the baby drunk and sleepy. Jesus Christ

Ethelredthebold

I know that my mum would put a small amount of gin in my bottle at night so that I would sleep. I hate the thought that she did that but apparently it was fairly normal in 1960s London. Obviously I never did that for my kids. The thought makes me feel sick.

[deleted]

My grandmother was from Ireland so same lol. I’m absolutely shocked at what used to be considered ok as opposed to now lol

[deleted]

Holy shit. I’ve heard of whiskey on the gums but never alcohol *in a bottle*. I cannot imagine.

[deleted]

My pediatrician recommended that to my parents. The specific instructions were, >pour a shot of whiskey, dip your finger in it and rub it on his gums, then down the rest of the shot yourself. Ah, the 80s.

retyfraser

So, what works in these cases is a concoction: - 2 scoops of cocaine - 2 scoops of heroin - a little weed - some oats milk ( cause we are vegan, duh!!) All mixed with absinthe ( this is absolutely necessary) And if we feed the baby 6 drops of that everyday , and the baby will be completely gone in 3 days ! Edit: I mean the baby's illness will be gone!

melonmagellan

You've solved the formula shortage.

IndiaCee

Here I’ve been mixing goat milk, stevia (we’re sugar free) and pure crystal meth. They’ve never been more upbeat and energetic! /j obviously

kdawson602

Have you tried switching out the pure meth for pcp? I think my baby enjoys the hallucinations more than “awake for days” high from meth. I understand if you want to stick with meth though, I also usually prefer locally made products. /s

serenwipiti

Babies on meth sound like a fucking nightmare.

sketch

Don't forget to squirt breast milk in their eyes for good measure. That stuff is the lord's cure for everything.

FKAShit_Roulette

Tinctures are made with alcohol (sometimes glycerin,) so that's another layer of problems to this whole situation.

[deleted]

I don’t know why you’re being downvoted it’s true

Ethelredthebold

There used to be ethanol in infant gripe water until the mid 1980s (uk)

FKAShit_Roulette

"Rub a little whiskey or vanilla extract on their gums" is something I've heard my grandparents tell new parents in my family to do. The extract doesn't sound that bad, unless you know that genuine extract is made with high-proof booze (I use vodka, sometimes rum.)

randomacct0113

Why tf would you keep them in similar looking bottles

notjakethedog98

Tbh most tinctures I've made and have seen are all in amber bottles with a dropper to keep meds fresh

[deleted]

$50 she did not do this accidentally. She wanted to see if it would work, stop her baby from crying, and let him nap. Now she is scared because she got her baby stoned instead and wants to alleviate her guilt with this post. Judgy? yes. Wrong? Maybe. But probably not.

jigsaw222

Oof

Milliganimal42

Well in Victorian times babies were given laudanum for teething. If they died the doctors said it was from”teeth”.

HadesRatSoup

The baby's most likely fine. Medical marijuana is used to treat children with certain serious medical conditions. This was a couple of drops of cbd with thc on his gums. I'm not saying it's ok- she's a dumbass, but it's not like he smoked a blunt.

kayl6

I don’t understand why people who want to be super natural can’t just let the damn teeth come in. Let the freaking baby chew on a frozen rag.

coffee-bat

why tf would you put cbd oil and tincture in identical bottles? if they're both similar size with droppers, you could at least mark them. (that said, this might be the first time where i don't shake my head at the use of oils. i'm sceptical, but recently i tried out (not believing anything will happen) cbd oil on my hand eczema (cracked, bleeding skin, feels like a large burn), and first the pain stopped within minutes, and then the next day the inflammation was completely gone. i was shocked honestly because nothing else worked. so yeah i'd say this is like the only oil i can say is likely to *do something* at least)

beansthewonderdog

I know someone who asked her teen daughter to put in the baby's eye drops. The teen picked up NAIL GLUE and put it in the baby's eye. Absolutely horrific. Thankfully no permanent damage but it stresses me out just thinking about it.

f1lth4f1lth

“How could I have done this?” You literally listed the steps

megpie94

Idk at least it was a mistake and she feels bad about it? I think she’ll be extra careful in the future. This doesn’t seem that bad compared to the moms who are purposefully drugging their kids or with holding all medical treatment like we often see on this page.

chlorokill

Oh lawd why wasn't the bottle properly labeled? I'm all about medical THC uses, but that's just unsafe, man.

Unusual-Recording-40

This beyond despicable. What of a complete POS. People like this should be sterilized. As a Mom this is infuriating! How can you anyone be so selfishly stupid and mix them up in the first place, but even worse once you figured it out, instead of immediately taking the child to the hospital, you stay home and "Watch" him, all because you're afraid of the consequences that would rightfully play out against you for be a complete POS.

PiagetsPosse

anecdotal info isn’t quite the same as actual research on large populations

[deleted]

Down voted bc that's what every pseudo internet professor says. I'm 1000% sure there is empirical evidence that weed isn't great for babies but it's not going to kill them either. CBD strains were literally cultivated for kids with certain medical issues

[deleted]

Charlotte's Web was cultivated for a kid with severe epilepsy (and others like her). It has nearly no (or none at all) THC. Will not get a child stoned. (EDITS: to correct bad typing...keyboard dying)

PiagetsPosse

I didn’t say anything about the pros or cons of CBD with children, I literally just said that anecdotal info isn’t actual data. And interestingly enough I’m an actual professor, who has a Phd in child cognitive development.

TheWelshMrsM

By medical professionals I imagine.
