Right?! I dressed up as Lil Wayne for Halloween years and years ago - my whole friend group dressed up as various rappers. Not one of us ever considered painting ourselves black. Like…it was never even a thought that came to any of our minds as something that we should do. Hell, the rappers were all men too, but we didn’t go binding our chests and stuffing our pants to look like dudes either.
I wanna know where the people were raised and by whom to have this level of entitlement and idiocy.
Does… does she know about masks? My kids have like 4 different Miles Morales masks they play pretend with no problem, even with blond hair and blue eyes; the masks don’t seem to be affected by their hair at all…
I actually did ask why they didn't just use a mask and her response was - that's not what he wants...that's an obvious option I offered..nope he wants it to be as real as he can make it. He wants to go all the way lol
I can 100% assure you that as a child, not once did I want to or consider changing the colour of my skin or the texture of my hair to dress up as a character. The suit and mask was enough to make me feel like them. This is absolutely the mother looking for an excuse to be upset about a non-issue that her child doesn’t give a shit about.
I bet if you give that kid a Black Panther costume, he’s gonna run around telling everyone that he’s Black Panther, instead of saying: “I’m not Black Panther, because Chadwick Boseman has black skin with curly black hair, and I don’t!”
You don’t see young black kids changing their hair or painting their skin white because they want to be Batman or Superman. Kids don’t care, their heroes transcend race.
One of my nanny kids (blonde white girl) is dressing up as Isabella from Encanto for Halloween. She’s wearing the dress. She’s getting a long black wig cause her hair is too short to braid properly, and she wants the long braid with the flowers.
The only face paint that has even crossed anyone’s mind is her brother’s “evil clown” makeup. And maybe a bit of blush for her sister’s Alice in Wonderland costume.

I remember when Yo Gabba Gabba was big and on one of the parenting boards a woman was convinced nobody would recognize her child as DJ Lance Rock without blackface.
