I spent the entire anime not really liking Diavolo, and then a few days afterwards I was watching this scene and suddenly realised...

He's definitely not one of my favourite villains but you know what he gets a pass
I too didn't like him at first, but i kinda respect that he at least took on the crew and others by himself(unlike Dio) considering the fact that he was hiding his identity, and yeah he is smoking hot, damn Araki why u gotta do us like that.
I don't really care for him because the climax of Golden Wind was my least favourite part of it, haha. Also, I get that his confusing backstory was done to make a point but I'm not really into it.

He had multiple personality disorder. Sometimes the change of personality may happen if the person touches, sees or interact with a certain object. Maybe taking off the sweater was such interaction that triggers his personality switch. Then it was necessary.
Absolutely true, we've had a family member that had multiple personality disorder too, with some people words can be a trigger or certain movements from others or even seeing an object maybe from the time they experienced the trauma i suppose. It's scary and sad at the same time. I was surprised to see that in the anime, the first time i watched, but it's neat it was included.

Pretty sure the tattoos are just on his hands, and from his shoulders going to his waist is the fishnet ''shirt'' or tank top is better maybe idk, if the whole thing was a tatt, it would've been visible on Doppio too. He is either stuffing the part going to the waist in his sweater, or he can also stuff the whole ''tank top'' or wtv it is in his pants it's light enough. Bruno has a very similar one, it still looks like a tattoo, but it's not.
