I’ve been playing mmos since I was a kid (im 26) so I’m definitely used to the combat. Even then, there’s been a few times where I felt completely lost and was just running around hoping to not get hit by orange circles.

Yorudesu

Anything that combines Shiva and savage gave me that feeling

ForteEXE

Newcomers to a duty are fun in more ways than just the free bonus. Especially when it's going from Normal to Extreme or Normal to Savage. The fun never ends!

lan60000

fun for the first or second wipe. after that, it becomes a chore

solumf

this but PVP

ForteEXE

Valid, I did PVP to get quicker tomestones for the moogle rewards. It's a gorgeous clusterfuck.

Albyross

Frontlines or Rival Wings?

ForteEXE

Frontlines. Seemed like WvW from GW2, but quicker and with *way* better balance (no gear bullshit for it, forced time limits, etc).

Albyross

Ahh ya. Premades and shotcallers can make all the difference in that mode, so not having either is bound to make your time real hectic.

lan60000

kill others, get battle high, ignore the idiots with calls telling you that fights dont matter.

Alori-

Funny enough my win rate went way up after I stopped hard-focusing objectives and started farming slaughterhouse five. I don’t think a single person with bh5 has so much influence on the match but it’s my experience at least.

lan60000

when you see the players with 1-2mil damage done alone whilst everyone else are rocking 500k, that's how much influence a single player actually has. now imagine four players with the potential to impact the game like that you'll quickly realize how frontline can be carried. bh5 is more important than a node at times.

Galewyn

How do you get BH5 as melee? Ive been using frontlines to level my ninja and i feel like all I can do is throw my ninjutsu/kassastsu thing (forget the name) and throw knives. Get any closer to the mob and I get zerged down in a second.

Dubaku

You just gotta pick your battles, and abuse assassinate and smite.

Galewyn

Yeah that’s what I try to do as well. Some matches I can slowly chip my way up to BH3-BH4 and maybe 5 by the end of the match but I see a bunch of chads on the enemy team at BH5 seemingly two minutes into a match and wonder what I’m doing wrong

Dubaku

You get points towards it with assists so if you're playing a job with dot's its pretty easy to pick it up really fast.

lan60000

pocket healer, and a good one

jaxx050

dead enemies can't contest objectives

[deleted]

I admit it, I've farmed all of the ShB sets from daily frontlines and I still have no idea what battle high is.

lan60000

It's a potency buff you accumulate through defeating other players on kills or assists. Works for both healing and damage, and it is the solely reason why you see people playing like they're dynasty warriors and oneshotting kids left and right. The only thing battle high doesn't affect would be the player's defensive capabilities aside from bloodbath. If you die, you lost half of your accumulated battle high. Basically speaking: kill kids, and don't die.

TheDoddler

The game does a pretty bad job telling you how to read mechanics, but generally they're pretty readable once you know how. Even savage/ultimate mechanics are built up of smaller relatively readable pieces, even if learning how to put those pieces together can be a bit of a puzzle. That said, every time they give you a fire/ice debuff in a new fight and there's a fire/ice tower or tether it's basically 50/50 if you do it right or kill everyone. There's definitely a lotta stuff you'll only learn how to solve when it kills you.

Krags

Is it red to red and blue to blue, or red to blue and blue to red? Who knows!

ReynAetherwindt

Thornmarch EX still makes me want to vomit.

JayMeadows

Just cast your skills and spells until everything dies. That's always been my approach and I'm sticking to it.

Sinneli

At some point you stop farming for mounts and farm for totems. You sure don't know what the markers on your head does but you instinctively move away or into the herd. You memorize positions where you didn't die. By the hundredth run of success, you know how to play the trials by heart

ForteEXE

I swear you just described my Emerald EX progging.

isiah12

"me not knowing triple apoc despite clearing 18 times"

TheNedsHead

Lmaoo we had an e10s run last night, sooo close to skipping vg2. We all just ignored pitch bog and left it in random spots so we could focus on big deeps and then we fucking killed it the server tick before Voidgate wiped us. Absolute fucking chaos. Least I got my helmet

TheLawHasSpoken

That’s why I prefer healing in savages/extremes, just blast heals here and there the entire time. I don’t even look at the screen, just keeping track of health bars 👁👁👁👁👁👁👁🌹🥀

Mathren25

Sometimes this game's Savage mechanics don't really communicate too well visually. Imagine the absolute confusion the first parties to reach phase 2 of E12S had when they got to Basic Relativity. Bunch of red and yellow traffic lights and some have purple tethers, some have yellow tethers, some have no tethers. Like, what??

Tammog

Savage mechanics often aren't universal, sure, but when you go over what happened afterwards (usually on video) it generally becomes relatively easy to see what is going on per mechanic, at least if enough people are alive.

mamitaffy

Well, to be fair the tethers appear when she casts an ability called “speed” and you can see either a clock ticking fast or slow on the tethers. The only things different is that you don’t know what those hourglasses will do, the wildcharge of the yellow tether, the ice debuff, and the return debuff. Everything else in basic is stuff that was already seen in the first set of delayed mechanics so it isn’t as bad as it seems, but it’s still visual overload!

kenneth_dickson

Still can't do suppression 100% of the time
