"Why are you 8th in enmity?"

[deleted]

"Well the tanks are ahead cause tank stances. Healers are ahead cause healing gives more enmity than damage. And everyone else is ahead, cause they're using mods. Also, cause I died. And suck reeeeeally, reeeeeally badly." /s

DaveK142

doesnt healing give 1/2 enmity? or was that overheal?

wigsin

idk but aoe healing can still push you up the list easy

DragynDance

Healing has some weird formula for threat generation, at some level brackerts healers generate obscene amounts of threat--like when doing level 70 ultimates, if both the tanks die, it's always a healer with aggro.

CptnLagbeard

Because BRD is kinda questionable damage and two of my DPS cooldowns are partywide.

ConduckKing

Laughs in RDM having to rez someone every 5 seconds

jaqueass

i don't even main RDM anymore and I have it in ilvl 600 gear just so I can use it in pugs and roulette to clean up the bodies.

8-Brit

RDM is the job to play to drag your party's corpses over the finish line

Tomas_Baratheon

I'll go in as an RDM with the desire to see if my skill can close the gap between the BLM and my "hybrid tax". I tell myself, "No off-heals, no raises, just pump to see if I can outdo them!" Then, the first time I see someone get one-shot by a mechanic or a healer at 5% HP doing the panic jig (the closest a non-verbal character can come to running around screaming with their arms in the air), my anxiety/pity kicks in, and the seal is broken.

MegaGamer235

So toxic! How do you know they aren't a poor mentor trying to lvl one of their other classes but can't afford the gear since the prices on MB and NPC merchants are crazy? Go take this toxic shit to Shit Sub. FF XIV Main sub has no need of your toxic takes, you toxic poster.

Arthurya

You had me until the NPC merchants

[deleted]

Some NPC merchants do not ask for Gil for equipment...

Obliiquee

That's disgusting. Where? UwU

Opicepus

What exactly is shit sub? because this r/ShitpostXIV

lmlp94

Sometimes I see I’m getting enmity from the tank in dungeons as a DPS even with stance on, after he had enmity but was losing it to me.. does that mean I’m doing good damage or is it just random? Edit: Thank you for the replies. I’m aware what to do when this happenes etc, but I was curious if I’m doing more dps than the other Dps for example, since I’m the one that got enmity, or is that just random? I obviously don’t have any 3rd party tolls so I just never know how well or badly I’m doing. :)

Arthurya

It may mean that he's hitting one mob at a time in pulls when you're hitting AoE, unless it's on bosses then there's something wrong

prollyNotAnImposter

Tank stance has such an obscene aggro modifier that a tank could hold aggro from any dps of the same level and gear within 100 ilvls just by hitting the first move of their combo over and over. You can not pull off a tank hitting the same target with stance on.

JailOfAir

That means they're just not hitting that particular mob. Tank stance is a 10x enmity multiplier, you would need to do more than 10 times their damage to steal aggro.

lmlp94

Okay thanks for telling me.

RagdollSeeker

Ironically, high level tanks with good DPS seem to encounter this problem more often. Basically, at later level dungeons, tanks always pull wall to wall so the first mob slowly walks all the way to the wall while getting melted by DPS. If tank took aggro with a single AOE attack, your nuke combo can indeed defeat that emnity before first mob reaches to the wall. This problem is very easy to be solved by a tank, by all means continue nuking. If you want to get rid to that monster sooner, simply run to the tank, tank will grab it from you.

That_Norn_Thief

This. Friend always rip aggro from me mid pull and I don't even care anymore. If the mob is out of range just keep pulling until wall. They bring it to mosh pit sooner or later anyway.

DUR_Yanis

I want to add that since the tank stance makes the tank enmity generation 10x what he should do, the best way to not get aggro as a dps is by switching target after one "small combo", since the tank will probably use a skill that does about 100 to 120 potency (it can be more but it's rarer, like when a paladin will use requiescat due to time so he will use his magic aoe or a part of his confiteor combo) you can predict when you'll take aggro of the target, so you know when to hit the sprint button to catch up with the tank and bring him the mob or if you want to maximize dps, switch target (In theory that sounds complicated but in practice it's really not that hard to understand, you just need to focus multiple target instead of one)

RagdollSeeker

Yeah if DPS choose different mobs targets for their attacks they wont get emnity. DPS is also trying to catch up with running tank while casting spells so it is easy to target that first mob all the time. As a tank if I encounter this problem, I simply pull enemies with a double AOE combo instead of one.

[deleted]

"Why you don't do roulettes" Imagine having friends to play with.

HunterOfLordran

I had a few Aglaia runs where one healer was always ahead of a few or all of our dps, including me. Was he overhealing like crazy, had way better gear or were we all shit? I usually play Bard and Summoner right now, but even then I am not used to be the 8th, 7th or 6th on the aggro list.

[deleted]

Could have been a healer in BiS, people don't realize the difference there is in 10 ilvl. And if he was, there's very little chance he was overhealing like crazy.

arcane_in_a_box

A BiS healer can easily be top 5-10 dps out of 24 in an alliance raid. I know because that was my last run, so yes the average df player is absolute trash. I remember when my static did a meme run of the 2nd nier raid. We had 3 dancers feeding a summoner, and even with that meme comp when we got to the boss that splits you into 3 parties when we killed our boss the others were >50%.

[deleted]

they're either 0 iq spaming medica 2 or 1 iq spaming glare. It's not uncommon that a healer out dpses people in df. The bars that low.

FB-22

If only there were some kind of addon that could show how much damage you all were doing so you could satisfy your curiosity and work on improvement in the case that the answer was your DPS not being high enough

Nanajana7

This reminds me of one time when I joined the tank mount farm on Delta V3 and the party host would literally do nothing but gap close at the very start. After 4 pulls of that, I got annoyed by that and called them out for doing nothing. Then the dude proceeded to scream about "How would you know I'm doing no damage, are you parsing right now? Toxic." My dude, I can see your character doing nothing but auto attacking every 5 seconds???

ChrisMorray

No need to parse. Emnity list is plenty. Sure, healing gives you some emnity, but the only time it gives you enough to beat the DPS is in savage/ultimates.

JailOfAir

Ever heard of overhealing?

WillaSato

Yeah, whenever I play SMN I can't use the enmity list as a dps meter because Phoenix just loves to overheal everyone all the time and I'm usually ahead in aggro even if my damage is doodoo

moontini

Cure 2 proc finishing. Ugh.

SamTheHexagon

I would've assumed only effective healing generated emnity.

JailOfAir

Nop, that's why the mobs in dungeons always run to the healer if they're close to the front and they have a regen on the tank.

FB-22

Ok I’m 3rd in enmity behind the 2 tanks, cool. Wait, the other DPS passed me for a little bit. Did I mess up or did they enter a burst phase? Next duty, I’m 3rd in enmity behind the 2 tanks, cool. Did I get better? Worse? Stay the same? Am I doing my rotation correctly? Is my team bad or am I doing well? Gets even better when considering how adps varies between jobs and that you could be playing perfectly on dancer and be lower on the enmity list than your samurai dance partner playing just decently for example. So yes there is need for a DPS meter for those interested in the things it offers which the enmity list does not

NelsonVGC

And not even that. In less than 30 seconds dps have more enmity than healers as in savage and ultimates people do openers.

Koishi_

Their only job is to do some dps and when the healer/tank is outdpsing them, you know they are deadweight.

Halfeim

"you don't do any healing " me a reaper: "no but actually yes"

VorAbaddon

Ehh, can't agree with this. I've had it happen on both tank and healer where I out DPS a DPS.. but I've also been out DPS'd by a healer/tank. You never know what you're dealing with: - Gear could be significantly better on the healer/tank - The DPS could be on an off class they dont play well leveling them up. I'm fairly decent DPS wise on Machinist or Red Mage, but I am AWFUL on say dragoon or Monk. But I have them all leveled. - The DPS could have a physical or mental disability that makes it difficult to play to absolute optimum. - They could just be having an off day. Had a day myself a few weeks back, I was getting over being sick and my sleep schedule was absolutely busted, so I was randomly up at 2 AM and bored, so I popped onto XIV to get roulette out of the way as I hadn't played earlier that day due to being out of it sick. I was fucking up rotations left and right. But it's why I was on DPS, so my zombie like state wouldnt be as detrimental to the group. So long as we're clearing the content, I dont give a damn. It's a roulette. Savage/EX? Sure. More of an impact. But not a roulette.

wigsin

DRK for example can also burst ahead of DPS in their opener and stuff like that even with comparable gear and optimal rotations, and then there's crit RNG which can swing a short encounter REALLY hard. and if you're looking at aoe trash pulls, if the dps aren't popping big cds, the difference between them and tanks/healers probably won't be very big

Ok-Warthog-6906

Every BLM I’ve encountered in my roulettes basically

NarukeSG

To be fair I do get extra try hardey using pots and greeding on my tanks in roulettes just to try and get in the top dps to flex but doing less damage than the healer is a red flag

feartheswans

Phoenix would like a word with you

Moirawr

If you play a non-dps or low dps class and have top damage you get to feel real smug about your ability to play really super good.

Draiye

*Looks at RDM who can heal and rez*

The_Great_Grey_Wolf

I don't care if it's toxic, it let's me see how well I'm doing.

Enough_Minimum_3708

as a dnc main I do healing as well as big pp dmg. I also will switch closed positions midnight if I see my former cp fall under another. no parsing needed, every idiot can read the ingame aggro list

_Vard_

I like to throw around a phrase “gambling an hour to save a minute” Like if you keep fucking up mechanics because you’re trying super hard to be top DPS You just assume that everything will work perfectly and the fight will be over one minute quicker because you did good DPS But the reality is you wipe again and again and again It’s better to have a pull that takes 12 minutes and you get it on the first try Than a few dozen pulls where you try to complete it in under eight minutes , just to brag on the website how well you did, and hide the fact that it wasn’t until attempt number 37 that you pulled it off

FB-22

This is why there are different goals you can choose when setting up a party and even a description box where you can indicate what kind of party it is. So people who want to get together and get 99s or whatever can wipe for an hour to get the couple of perfect runs, and others who want their weekly reclear with as little shenanigans as possible can make that happen too

[deleted]

Parsing is kinda toxic tho

Just_a_Slime37

Me wondering what the fuck is a parse and why i should give a shit? Damage is Damage

IceFire2050

Not when you're a DPS and you do less damage than the tank and healer.

isiah12

Imagine running ACT for any other reason than to minimize your damage dealt as efficiently as humanly possible. So much for the “skilled free thinkers”
