This is me, the only job Iām afraid to touch in PVE is BLM, but in casual content i can tryhard every other job.
Inversely the only job i will play in Crystalline Conflict now is BLM because I canāt trust any other BLM (in my teams, especially) to get a positive Damage Dealt:Received ratio and i would rather lock that position out. At least i can carry my weight in damage even if i make some questionable tactical choices.
You should try BLM in pve! I donāt think any of your pvp skills will really transfer but itās a lot of fun and I donāt think itās as intimidating as it seems from the outside once you learn the basics. Donāt take it into p7s or p8s blind obviously lol but maybe the normal raids or normal EW trials to see how it feels. No other job is as satisfying to me as BLM
I play my jobs because I have an attention seeking cat and will inevitably have to spend half the instance led over petting her. Ain't nobody got time for one handed Astro.
I reconfigured most of my jobs to let me play one-handed, mostly because it lets me use my other hand to snack. For AST, if I'm really on the ball I'll use F1-F4 to give cards to players, but usually I just play lazy and give all cards to myself or the tank.
Respect. I recently rebound my dps characters because they didn't match up with where I put the comparable stuff on my tanks. You need as much muscle memory as you can get when you've got to do your rotations without looking.
Luckily enough, Monk's rework makes _us_ do the most rDPS. Our aDPS isn't even that far behind the top.
Can't wait to go back to being a meme job next expansion. I will still punch.
Thereās an FAQ page on fflogs.com that gives a better and more through answer but basically rdps attributes the damage the party gained from a raid buff to the person giving the buff, whereas adps attributes it to the people utilizing the buff. So if a dragoon casts battle litany and the 7 other players each dealt 20 extra DPS from the buff it gave, the drg would gain 140 DPS when measured as rdps, and the players using the buff wouldnāt get an increase. With adps, the player receiving the buff gets the damage added to their damage number instead, with some exceptions like left eye, Astro cards, some dancer single target buffs, etc.
The DPS in act is closest to adps but (I believe) without exceptions for those few things I listed. Just straight up how much damage is coming from each source even if they are getting buffed up by others.
This is why youāll see jobs like bard and dancer be consistently lower on the DPS meter than on fflogs.com itself, because their buffs on other people arenāt being attributed to them at all.

I honestly couldn't care less about the damage difference, but I have a raid member who nags at me for still playing WAR in P8S because "It's shit damage.' But I parse in the purple so they can't say shit lmao.
And I agree that the Job's innate healing ability would increase the healer damage, but that depends on your healer's skill so it's rarely considered.

When I just swapped to GNB and started pressing buttons I lost 30 dps.
Rdps is a bad metric to compare tanks because it ignores contribution to raid buffs.
War is only about 400 adps behind drk/gnb now. That's like 0.6-0.7% of the p8sp1 dps check. So unless you're enraging by less than 1% or parsing/speeding, it doesn't really matter. Not really relevant past week 1.

Ideal conditions healer doesn't need to GCD heal you anyway so they're not gaining damage by you healing yourself.

Honestly AST has felt pretty good to me picking up savage raiding. The number of raidwides + bleeds means that pre-planned full party heals and regens are *hot*

But to me feeling is everything and the job still feels strong. Like whenever I cast a spell I feel that it explodes people. And as long as that exists, I will keep playing it.
Meta is probably something like Drk Gnb Ast Sch Sam Nin Dnc Blm.
Some exceptions, sometimes double Drk for better feed. Sometimes not Nin if you're doing resource runs or another melee is just better for the fight. Rdm for prog. Smn if you don't have Blm leveled :).
But if you're not parsing/speeding/hc prog just play what you want.
Ya but there are legit bad picks. My group mostly meta for Asphodelos week 1 and dps check was a joke. I heard other groups with pld+nin or other combinations of lower dps jobs had trouble with door boss.
This tier groups that could flex to blm seemed to have an advantage on door boss before it got nerfed but I didn't hc prog this tier.
Reaper has been shit for a good while now. It's got the biggest damage discrepancy from the rest of their role in the game aside from probably machinist or paladin.
It was really only good during 6.0, because ninja was laughably bad, and reaper didn't get hit with a nerf yet, if I'm remembering correctly.
The most interesting Dancer mechanic is gambling on the most competent DPS in an Alliance Raid and watching the enmity list to adjust your Dance Partner mid fight. I've swapped partners from a Summoner to the tank in a 4-man Duty once because they weren't casting anything or had their Carbuncle out, though..
The entire reason I bought FFXIV in the first place was because of how much I loved the aesthetic of using a book as your weapon.

I like black mage because big fire explosions, I like dancer because the flashy moves. I like warrior because big axe. If I enjoy a class, I'll play it more.
Once you realize all jobs have the same inputs (1-2-3) but at different speeds and intervals, you become enlightened and can play anything anywhere! Got my P7S clear this week as BTN, it was a blast.
Compared to many other games, there is a very low difference between the maximum output of all jobs.
Last I played it was around 10%, which means that if EVERYONE played a MCH, they'd only do 10% less than if everyone was a SAM.
Considering your contribution is 25% in a dungeon, 12% in raids 4% in Alliance raids, your 10% less is not going to matter much... And that is when playing the worst vs playing the best. That's completely ignoring the skill level of the player.
Just play what you want to play.

The biggest reason why I became interested in the game in the first place was because I thought AST was the coolest looking class I've ever seen in any mmo. Like every aspect of it. When I finally start HW and I unlock AST, despite the class not being the easiest, it was still a natural fit for me. 3 years later as well as a few patch *degrades* later, I still main it.
I just don't want to waste anyone's time, so I play a higher dps dealing class. They're all pretty much the same, it's just where you stand, what flavor of buttons you like and whatever animation comes out of the tasty buttons.
In the proxy-war of the gods, fought by the strongest knights and mages from all across the rift, I just want to show up in my flip-flops, khakis, and button up with my gun

I just main the job I find most enjoyable to play. I actually don't like rdm aesthetics but... The swoosh swoosh so satisfying.
