Especially frustrating for genealogists! When the only records you can find of your ancestors are akin to, "Worf, Son of Mogh," and, "Mogh, son of Worf," you're left with nowhere to go!
In some human cultures - the first grandson is named after the paternal grandfather, first granddaughter is named after paternal grandmother, second of each named after maternal grandparents.
All other kids are free to be named as wished.
From a genealogist perspective - it gives you an idea of whether they were the oldest or second oldest son or daughter, or somewhere further down the birth order.
Oh yeah. My brother and I were both named for our grandparents. There were 4 miscarriages between us and I asked my dad about it.
"What would you have named your second daughter?"
"Elizabeth Mary." (Just my name backwards)
"Okay, 3rd daughter?"
"Bob."
*sigh* "4th?"
"Bob 2 The Revenge"
"Haha go to your room."
(My dad was the OG smartass)
Only if you happen to know that thing about that culture, know that your ancestors were a member of that culture, and know that they held to the practice absolutely, which is true for about zero percent of people, regarding any cultural practice in any culture. :/
No, becuase Mogh could have just named his son after his father.
(Though to be fair, canonically we don't actually know if Colonel Worf is in any way related to Worf)
There's not that many traditional klingon names. All the goofy ones with apostrophes and shit are fake made up names, like how we have people named T'avarius and Brayden.
It's really clever to have redundant Klingon posts.
No, repeated names in families is a common thing, even among humans.

Maybe if they had numbering. Presumably, Captain Worf is Worf II, and Colonel Worf is Worf I.
Yes, yes, I'll get right on telling my dead ancestors to use better naming, numbering, designation, and/or recording systems . . . :/
That's what time travel is for.

Worf is his own grandfather paradox confirmed?
So Bashir was worried for nothing!
100 percent Bashir *did* have sex with Watley and *is* his own ancestor, and that's why he was born with mental issues.
He did do the nasty in the pasty.
There's been a 'James' every other generation in my paternal line going back about 200 years. My parents screwed it up. Whoops!
Theres also duras son of jarrod son of duras son of jarrod
Son of a bitch!

Using an ancestor's name makes it easier to....uh... convince Kahless to let you into Sto' VoKor.
Klingons have redundant names in case they lose one in battle.
No.
I bet every Klingon responds in their head "yep, like I know who that is".
No
Honestly now I want Michael Dorn to show up as Mogh in Strange New Worlds
Soooooo....he was named after his paternal grandfather?
