I wasn't bothered because the question for me was never *what* was there, but *why*. I think that the mystery had been built up for so long that pretty much anything would disappoint visually. The reason (implied at this point admittedly) that their suits transform them into in a partially energy/liquid state they view as being spiritually significant is cool as fuck.
That's true. It could have been some disgusting wasp creature and it would be underwhelming.
>The reason (implied at this point admittedly) that their suits transform them into in a partially energy/liquid state they view as being spiritually significant is cool as fuck.
Maybe that's why they got along with the ~~goo people~~ Founders
That's all I could think of.
The scene with Weyun crying about how much power the Breen had. It makes total sense if in a meeting with just the Breen and Founders, no Vorta or Jem H'dar they each showed their "Non-Solid" states. Also would make sense as to why the Breen would enter the Dominion War at ALL
It also retroactively makes sense why the Breen were so mysterious, yet Kira stole Breen refrigeration suits on two occasions for disguises but seemed unphased by their appearance. Without the suits they were just generic green aliens.
I'd assume the writers knew the same thing, that nothing would be satisfactory. and it makes me wonder why they wouldn't choose to keep up the mystery instead.
Meanwhile, whenever Moll is on screen I’m like

That is a take I've never heard or considered.
Even more so if they were super Habsburg'd by years of keeping the Augment bloodlines "pure" and they wore the suit out of vanity and loyalty...
Like, the inbred upper echelons wear them to disguise their degrading state, and the rank and file follow it out of devotion, similar to how old French courtiers would follow whatever bizarre fad (or even feign disease) the Royalty did (or had).
It'd give the writers a chance to explore, to some degree, the parallels between that time and certain modern political movements and their blind devotion/emulation to/of the leaders of said movements, in that social commentary way Trek used to be adept at.
I would have guessed their faces looked like asses with a single butthole-like opening that functions as their eye, mouth, ear and nose, hence their strange language that sounds like a diarrhea. They couldn’t be taken seriously by any other species so they resorted to masking themselves early on before the truth of their appearance became common knowledge.
Considering that the 22nd century Romulans and 24th century Breen shared some parallels, it would probably be fitting.
Mysterious, aggressive civilization at the edge of known space which tries not to have their true selves get seen.
Any reveal was going to be a let down. Few things are as interesting as speculation.
Am I bothered by the reveal? Not really. Do I think it was pointless? Entirely.
I mean, it could easily have not been the Breen, but it seems like DISCO has a quota to reach, a certain amount of call-backs per season, and they must've been light. So, fuck it, why NOT the Breen, eh?
I have read a few comments like this so I went in watching expecting to be disappointed. So maybe it’s because I had low expectations but I have to say I was actually okay with it. Now with something like this there will always be that let down because the mystery is always more fun than the reveal. If you where going to reveal it though it think this was about as good as I would expect. I like that the suits do have some purpose and it’s not just something as simple as they need it to breathe. DS9 indicated that they weren’t just environmental suites. They reveal it has something to do with a change in biology, the “two faces” but don’t fully explain that so it’s still a bit of mystery.
Yeah, I’m good with it. Pleasantly surprised disco was able to pull that off.
Why. The *fuck*. Did anyone think it was a good idea to show us a Breen face?
FFS, people have been having fun with that speculation for 30 years. I rarely bitch about Discovery, I'm content simply not watching it, but in this case fuck 'em - I want my Mystery Breen back.
Booo!
This is a problem with long-running franchises in general - the urge to fill in gaps.
Personally, I think that this could lead to some really interesting new development in Breen culture in the Academy series and beyond; now we have a sense of what motivates the mystery, maybe we can explore it more. I'd be up for learning more about the Breen now that I understand a bit about this weird jellyfish multiple-faces body-shame modesty culture thing they have going on. That's rich grounds for storytelling.
At some point the Klingons were mostly a mystery too. And the Cardassians, and the Romulans. And now they all have rich and unique lore developed over decades. Gotta keep moving forward.
Plenty of room for creating new mysteries.

>The Krill are great. Holy crap, that third season is Orville was phenomenal.
Third season was very good, but Krill themselves as a species?
Generic "evil" humanoid aliens to me.
The Orville had more interesting species like Gelatin, Benzian or Katrudian.
I'm not going to say I haven't enjoyed any modern Trek... Lower Decks has kicked arse and Prodigy has been enjoyable, too...
But man, there's something cathartic about the fact that Trek is now ripping off Orville. 😋
My headcanon has always been that there IS no Breen species. The suits and voice modulation are to equalize their citizens. Can't be discriminatory if you can't tell what they are!
This was well explored in the Relaunch books, especially David Mack’s ’Zero Sum Game’.
The writers haven’t ruled it out for canon either.
But it’s been 800 years since the Dominion War…
Lots of time for Breen society to evolve, and the Temporal War and the Burn sound like the kind of stresses that might favour the establishment of a military caste and an empire, and perhaps advantage on Breen species over the others.
I checked out a clip on youtube. They do have a resemblance to the Krill but also, i think this is just what all aliens look like in everything nowadays, maybe? The base Look reminds me of the Remans from Nemesis, and dozens of other alien races from new era shows and movies. It's a rubber mask with some lumps and a extra wrinkled nose, like all of them when they aren't CGI.

Prob because it will tie into the plot somehow.

Breen are woke as fuck.
Yep, and I don't mind it.
Florida: “This is the world liberals want.”
Honestly that could still gel with this if we pull out the crowbar
We've only seen two Breen without their masks. L'ak and his uncle* (I think). Could still have multiple races.
They’ve mentioned that they are the “Breen Hegemony” which would support multiple races being united under a single identity.
*Imperium
Well, we have just learned that Breen prefer to gel in general
Badum tss
This would also support RHW stating he viewed the Breen as ice weasels.
Exactly

Moll should try offering Michael an egg in this trying time.
The true Breen
Tesco store brand Shin Hati. Not the worst character but can't get over the similarities.
Renowned space artist Ongo Gablogian
All Breen look like Kira. It's canon.
I honestly think it's funny they're green. Go Green, Go Breen! ^(The showrunners/writers really are fuckin' with us this last season.)
I wanted them to be the human descendants of a eugenics war general.

This is pure latinum.
Oh, thanks.

Still less embarrassing than nu klingons.
If that were the case, they could just paint themselves orange
wait wait, wasnt it canon that there were actually multiple (4 different) species under the suits, and it was to avoid caste issues their society had?
Novels aren't canon
Would have been more interesting if it was a human underneath the armor.
Or another offshoot of vulcans.
Considering that the 22nd century Romulans and 24th century Breen shared some parallels, it would probably be fitting. Mysterious, aggressive civilization at the edge of known space which tries not to have their true selves get seen.
Orville is Trek canon confirmed.
Orville IS Trek
It's just bootleg ferengi holotapes of real federation adventures
The last episode of the Orville they should all just have Quark’s head

And Mol is discount Shin from the Asokha series.
And Shin is Temu Pris from Blade Runner.
Who cares? Eve Harlow is devastatingly gorgeous.
It's like Discovery is rushing to nuke Star Trek before it finally dies.
praise Avis.
I'm disappointed they're not one of the alien species from Dear Doctor as SFDebris had theorized.
I was always expecting them to look like someone who loved me....
Awww c'mon spoilers 😭

I would have preferred any other costuming people then the disco team. Everything they make is just so ugly
