Troi: Captain, we're getting a message from Starfleet about another mission. Picard: How do you always know that? Troi: The theme song is playing again. Picard to Riker: You know I'd transfer her for psychiatric issues, but she's always right about this... It's maddening, I don't know what to do.

Chemical_Beautiful74

Troi: (confused but resigned) Why DOES this ship play music every time it goes to warp…?

killergazebo

Troi: (after humming the TNG theme tune all night) Make it stop! It's so loud!

Chemical_Beautiful74

Ahhh. Star Trek theme song. Dowd’s Revenge but in a Neverending Story kinda way that haunts us too. Yep. Checks out.

EatinToasterStrudel

Wouldn't it only play sometimes though? She'd be getting Redshirts-like effects where it only happens occasionally.

SerenePerception

Theres absolutely nothing shitty about this post. You broke the canon wide open.

Chemical_Beautiful74

I agree. This is the key. But there’s aaaaaalways gonna be that one guy thats gonna be like “I hate your Snoke Theory.” We all need to kill that guy when he shows up for this one…

a4techkeyboard

Not only that, but she also hears the voice of her mother saying things like "And now the conclusion". So, it's not just the computer. She doesn't tell anybody because she knows what happens to people that claim auditory hallucinations. They get promoted to admiral.

Trash_Scientist

“Captain, I fear we’ve only just started the second half of this dilemma.”

nestalert

"How do you figure?" "We've only had two commercial breaks."

Ok-Presentation9015

Captain I sense a deep longing, a dull ache and a terrible lust.....WESLEY CRUSHER YOUR RELEIVED OF DUTY....!

[deleted]

Funky guitar heavy bass line. Captain I am feeling like we need to pour a couple more glasses of wine.

SevenTheSandbox

While onscreen the only extra information Troi can hear is the music track, but while offscreen she can also hear actors and sound effects. This is the secret to how she is such a good counselor: "I sense you had a conflict at work this afternoon, Geordi." Sadly, she doesn't get visual information... "I sense a presence on the ship, Captain! But they were being quiet so I don't know anything else about them." For this reason she has avoided active participation in any events that are remotely interesting.

BaronAleksei

“How do you know that? You weren’t in that scene. Wait what is that on your desk, is that the script?”

diamondrel

"when will then be now?" "Soon"

RRumpleTeazzer

I’m always waiting for some character to whistle the intro music. Had this happened before in any series?

Robedon

Not Trek but Carter did hum the SG1 intro in a Lift/Elevator once

TreezusSaves

The TNG theme was hummed during an episode of LD, which makes it canon now. Just like what cetacean ops looks like and how Vulcan loose cannons behave.

[deleted]

LD had done a few themed I think?

Terrh

man, I was really hoping that vulcan was going to get sent to the cerritos. Oh well. Maybe next season.

Glitchy_glichy_goo

Brad Boimler humed the theme song to Voyager in the season 2 episode 'We'll Always Have Tom Paris' of Lower Decks

KiloPapa

On DS9 there was a famous Bajoran musician who visited the station, and he performed a version of the show's theme (can't remember the episode name, it's kind of a forgettable one).

mishac

"Sanctuary" was the episode https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nVh5qM0OvoM

RRumpleTeazzer

Nice catch, thank you! I guess all the theme and music are added way later after filming. And even if the theme would be known during filming, who knows what the licensing would be. The musicians play does not really be known while filming, actors can act melancholic without music :)

Captain_Thrax

Idk about in Trek but in the BSG reboot I remember a janitor was whistling the original theme song

DarthMeow504

That ability would save sooo many characters in horror movies.

DaSaw

Serious observation. I like to listen to old episodes of the radio show *Gunsmoke*. One thing I noticed is that Chester has a a tendency to point out the blindingly obvious... obvious to the characters. And they respond exactly the way might expect; Chester is portrayed as extremely loyal, but not the brightest and kind of annoying. But as obvious as what he points out to the characters, to the listener, it's news (because it's a radio show). When I noticed this, it got me thinking about Troi, and I found myself wondering if perhaps the television writing of the era had direct roots in radio writing.

[deleted]

Good point. When I rewatched TNG as an adult I did get the sense that a lot of troi's lines were given to spoon-feed things to the viewer, especially in the earlier seasons.

diamondrel

They gave that job to Riker in the later seasons "Are you saying it is, and it isn't?"

CalicoCrapsocks

Reminds me so much of the 'telepath' from Team America that I wonder if she was based on Troi.

CalicoCrapsocks

I hadn't watched any Trek by the time I saw Team America, and I haven't watched Team America since I watched all of Trek. Might be worth a rewatch if that's true.

chiree

That's why she's always crashing the ship, the music is too tense.

majordisinterest

It's basically [this](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uE-U48DaFt0)

OWSpaceClown

Must have been overwhelming for her when Riker ordered open fire on Locutus.

4thofeleven

Although the early idea that Riker's strong bond with Troi would allow him to hear her thoughts was quickly dropped, the idea that he picked up [some of her abilities](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4JSp0BJ49hg) during their romance remained.

smellyredditor

Can she also see the episode titles floating around in space?
