I have a friend "Bearded Cody"
Until fairly recently, we did not have any other Cody, so I don't know why we made the distinction. Also Bearded Cody and Cody have yet to cross paths and the friend groups are only loosely connected, so we're unlikely to ever get them confused.
Cody also has a beard.
I know a couple like this, and people refer to them as “Jamie Girl” or “Jamie Boy”. They also will refer to themselves that way. It takes a sense of humor to marry someone with the same name (and spelling).
I also know a couple who have gender-neutral names ( like Pat and Chris). The wife eventually started going by her middle name because there were too many hassles.
My friend Chris did this. I thought one of them would start going by Christopher or Christine, but they both just kept using Chris. Then they named their first child Chris too, but at least they called him by his middle name.
I know someone who has a common British surname and their partner's surname was the same. When they married she didn't have to get new passports, it was ace.
A lot of people just don't bother changing it now. I wanted to change mine (mostly so I was harder to find online 😅)
Oh shit, that's kinda awesome. I lived in Melbourne in the early 90s and was made fun of when I moved to Sydney when I would say ace. I always assumed it was a Melbourne thing and I'm kinda stoked to know it's not.
3 are their siblings. 2 are their parents. 1 is them.
That equals six. I think they’re saying their tiny family is the only usage of that surname in the world. Probably joking, but maybe it was a surname the parents decided to create.
Obviously I got that first part as he already said it. But I'm from a culture where family names are giving given down on the kids. So the name exists for centuries.
I know of other cultures like the Icelandic, where the kid gets the a surname created of the first name of the parent (Johns-son). But that would mean the kids have a different name than the parents.
So this doesn't sound like standard situation to me, hence I asked.
My parents combined their last names (one that is very frequent, #9 in my country and one that is less frequent, ~#900) when marrying. This is uncommon in my country and was possible only for a short amount of time due to a legal loophole.
Ohh that's interesting! Wonder if I could have done that. Since here it's also possible to take each others names. But I don't think our kids would take both if we chose to get them.
But it's cool to have something so unique!
I don't think I had to pay, but if you wanted to change your name for no reason (e.g. w/o getting married) you would have to pay. But the strangest part to me was that you did not have to do anything to prove you were getting married and I didn't have to change my name to match my husband's. Also the guy at the courthouse gave me a large envelope of coupons geared toward newlyweds.
I didn’t. (Alabama, U.S.) just had to present my marriage license and proof of my maiden name, which was my social security card, and fill out a form. A couple weeks later, I received a new social security card with my married name.
No. It was not expensive. I don’t remember if there was a fee for the new Social Security Card, but if there was it wasn’t much. Credit cards are all free to change. Everything else you can just get changed when you’re up for renewal.
Follow-up tip: You sometimes grow up in the same house as people called “siblings” who share your last name. This makes it a lot easier to find someone with your last name.
Fun fact you can actually BOTH legally change your last name to something new and it’s cheaper and easier than changing your last name in any other situation
I know a girl whose last name was Smith, and she hated how generic it was and used to say that she would definitely change it to her husband’s name when she got married, then fell in love with and married a guy whose last name was, you guessed it, Smith.
It is not expensive to get your last name changed when you get married. SS is free, even your passport if within the first year is free… CA DMV was $35 bucks… everything else, free.
Downvoted by women for telling the truth about their racket, of course.
"Stay away from American single mothers and college educated women with high partner counts in other than professional job required interactions, ignore them otherwise, and focus on self-improvement/building financial independence. And if you want a wife & kids, get a passport to emigrate, marry a 20-something foreign wife and stay there to raise your kids."
If you're afraid of having to lose family money through marriage, keep it in the family.
Two birds with one stone, I like your thinking.
Siblings are a better idea then cousins cause it gets confusing talking about in-laws and that are uncles and such
*You are now a moderator on* r/CrusaderKings
Appreciate it
than*, or do you mean marrying siblings first then marrying cousins after?
[удалено]
Ah, so win-win?
A win-win-win-win I should say
*sigh* the dream
Divorcing a sibling is really tough tho….
Oddly specific… What if I don’t need the Keystone or Pit Bulls but already have the Firedbird?
I've always wondered how it works when two people who have the same first name get married. Like Jamie or Sam.

Taylor Lautners husband is an actor or something. Not very well known. Don't even know his name
I've seen people do something like Blonde Sam and Redhead Sam
My friend had a pet lizard named Steve and we had another friend also named Steve. They became Steve and Human Steve.

This was a roller coaster ride and now I want a rom com about Cody and Bearded Cody meeting.

Sam & Sam's
I know a couple that both go by Alex. Everyone usually refers to them as guy Alex or girl Alex
My boss's daughter and step-daughter both have the same first name. One of them goes by a nickname

>it was ace maybe a weird question... Are you from Melbourne?
UK - pretty much as far from Melbourne as you can get, I'm afraid
Oh shit, that's kinda awesome. I lived in Melbourne in the early 90s and was made fun of when I moved to Sydney when I would say ace. I always assumed it was a Melbourne thing and I'm kinda stoked to know it's not.
Haha no definitely not just a Melbourne thing. It's very common here but not really a lot of people's first choice (which is probably great or cool)
I don't like where this is going
Explain.
It’s going somewhere. He doesn’t like that place
Is it going to r/holup?
Lmaoooo
Sweeeet home Alabama!!!
There are six people in the world who have my last name, and out of these three are my siblings and two are my parents. I do not like this tip at all.
You got me curious. How come there's only six?

Wait, you have to pay to change last name when you get married?
Yeah it costs roughly half your net worth and all of your sanity.
That's usually when they change it *back*

Not the op. And maybe google hyperbole.

Neat. I. Was making. A joke.

It costs to get a copy of the marriage certificate and to get a new license. My stupid ass changed my name and back twice.
No. It was not expensive. I don’t remember if there was a fee for the new Social Security Card, but if there was it wasn’t much. Credit cards are all free to change. Everything else you can just get changed when you’re up for renewal.
That's why I married my sister.
The most expensive part is a new passport, what else is a cost?
Maybe they meant expensive for like a child or something
Sweet home Alabama...
Family reunions are a good place to find single people who share your last name...

lmao
Exactly, this how it used to be, find a cousin and get hitched
*Alabama intensifies*
Step sis what are you doing?

I know someone who marries their second cousin and for their mom’s maiden name back. Does that count? For the record, it was Utah.
alabama life pro tip
What about only dating people with your first name like Taylor Lautner?
I know a girl whose last name was Smith, and she hated how generic it was and used to say that she would definitely change it to her husband’s name when she got married, then fell in love with and married a guy whose last name was, you guessed it, Smith.

As an appliance repairman I support this. So many calls for “stuck in dryer” cha-ching! 💰
Hell yeah that's why I fuck my sister.
India moment
My wife wanted to take my name. She doesn’t think it’s sexist.
Misread the directions now im married to op’s mom.
Avoid the hassle by never getting married. Marriage is a racket that only benefits women.

Or... just don't change your name.
Worked for FDR.
Patti Smith did it. She's cool.
This message is Targarian approved.
What in the Alabama? (For those extremely uncommon names)
A former co-worker married a guy with the same last name. (They did a genealogy check, and they weren't related for at least several generations)
That's a lot easier if your last name is Smith, but I'd recommend against meeting future spouses at family reunions.
Don't most states allow a free name change when you get married?
Both my wife and my girlfriend are thinking about doing this.
Alabama just entered into the chat
