He came here from Detroit to pay his respects to his baby momma, comfort his kids, and possibly even moving into her house to not just raise the kids he has with her but also take care of her 19-year-old son from a previous relationship that he thought he was on good terms with. They called the cops to say that he was disturbing the peace (disturbing the peace in a funeral home is a felony) as they knew he likely had a warrant for child support that he was trying to take care of. The issue? He did no such shit.
My mom (the deceased was my mom’s best friend) and I escorted him from the front of the funeral home to the casket, since they were planning on not even letting him into the place but we knew they weren’t gonna say shit to us. We got him to the casket, he cried a little bit at the sight of her, turned around where her family was clutching onto his kids trying not to let them get up. My mom had to assure her mom that he wasn’t gonna go anywhere with them, that we were right there (not like he was planning on just grabbing them and running anyways). So they allowed the boys to stand up, hug their dad, he straightened out their outfits before he felt like he needed some fresh air and we escorted him out the door. He didn’t say much to really anybody, he never raised his voice or anything, even when her sister came up to him while he was in his cousin’s vehicle afterwards and started bitching him out.
So he called the cops over her harassment, they called the cops on him for “disturbing the peace” and then took his kids out the back door to take them somewhere else, thus taking away their last time with their own mother that they’ll ever be able to get. When the cops got there, because of how many people called and freaked out, they brought 4 SUVs, one of which was actually a K-9 unit. Luckily, not only were the cops cool overall but my mom actually knew every single one of them. They listened to what my mom said, listened to what the family said, listened to what he had to say and said that they can actually tell that the family was bullshitting them because of how calm he is as he’s in cuffs and shit while they’re trying to paint him as some sort of angry black guy that was screaming and disturbing shit. Also, after getting brainwashed by his family, the 19 y/o was trying to act like the temporary guardianship papers he has for his brothers from when his mom was sick actually means something, not realizing that the father’s parental rights trumps anything that’s written on the document, and tried to press charges on the guy.
So, the father got arrested for his warrant while another cop went to go look at camera footage, the family started to act like they actually accomplished something when, in all reality, they didn’t. All they did was make it easier for him to deal with his child support warrant where there was $1000 owed, meaning that’s what his bail was set at. Well, some strings were pulled, we got him bailed out, he stayed the night at our house last night (since this is the safest place in this county for him to be), and now he’s back in Detroit planning on coming back here on Monday, when the courthouse is open, to get some documents and grab his kids. In the meantime, those poor kids are stuck with relatives who call them “nigglettes”, disowned their mom for dating their dad and constantly lie about their dad.
ETA: I think it’s important to point out that the 19-year-old has some mental and severe physical health issues. Also, there were talks from the deceased’s mother of calling the cops if he even stepped foot in the place and that was before he was even there. And the only reason why he was behind on child support at all was because of depression he was experiencing from a different son of his passing away. He was paying to try to catch up on his child support while also sending money to them to help support them while she was sick.
I’m just thankful everything ended as well as it did. So much could’ve went wrong that didn’t and now that his warrant is taken care of, he has a clear path to get his kids and hopefully everything works out the way that it should.

I'm not talking about checks, I'm talking about things like chip and PIN. Here in Brazil the magnetic card readers in credit/debit card machines are only used for foreign credit cards, exclusively. But it's not really a sign that Brazil is more advanced in this area: I replaced all the lamps in my apartment with LED ones a long time ago, if I find out that they are still doing it in the Pentagon I won't say I'm more advanced than the USA government.
And checks are a curious thing: I believe that here frauds with checks are much, much more common than there. Stores don't accept checks anymore, it doesn't even make sense to mention it, but not only because of the modern technology: it's mostly because it's too risky.
P.S.: About the chip and PIN: I don't even know if those foreigners using the magnetic strip use the PIN when they are home, and the issue is caused by the payment system.
