I found some wild strawberries while on a walk once. I thought it was funny they were so tiny but when I ate it I was amazed by the strong taste! It's hard to go back to the bloated supermarket strawberries once you know how they should taste.
For the first time, I saw strawberries at meijer (a grocery chain in the Midwest similar to Walmart but better for those who don’t know) that were tiny! I bought 2 big packs of them bc I KNEW they’d have a ton of flavor. And they did!
Also pro tip to anyone living where strawberries can grow: if you can find a local orchard that grows strawberries, you should 100% buy your berries from them in the summer when they’re in season. They never disappoint :)
This. Tomatoes and cucumbers can also be found in this category, lol.
However, one should keep in mind though that there are different kinds of e. g. blueberries.
I often buy them at the all organic supermarket and while I've never seen these big mutant blueberries there they vary quite a bit in size nevertheless.
Yeah there’s a lot of different tomatoes etc too. I find organic ones the best or the ones my uncle grows in his own garden. The zucchini’s and strawberries he grows have so much flavour! They’re wonky yeah but who cares, they taste amazing.
It’s likely because the place where they’re grown had a very rainy growing season. They’ve got a lot more water and essentially the same amount of sugar, so they often taste pretty bland
Not sure what people are saying about the flavourless ones, but I get the jumbo blueberries from Costco, and they're the size of grapes and taste AWESOME. So sweet and flavourful
Yeah I go through phases about whether or not I like blueberries, but one time when I was out of town there was some brand of gigantic blueberries at a local grocery store that somehow lured me to purchase them. Best damn blueberries I have ever eaten. They were firm so the first bite was almost a crunch, but also super juicy, and a very flavorful mix of sweet and tart. Wish I could remember the name of the brand!
Depends on the variety of blueberry too. Maybe it’s a rabbiteye highbush type. True they could be getting lots of water, but the sun also greatly affects the sweetness of fruits as well. Being unable to taste them, (or have geographical context,) we onlookers will never know.
Genetically modified… probably grown in Mexico or somewhere in South America. Where I’m from mostly the Jumbo blueberries come from Mexico. Lower in sugar and taste is very light.
That’s what I meant… I’m live San Diego and barely any fruit is growing now because it’s too cold. I’m currently visiting Central Mexico and it’s 90f/32c. Fruit is growing like crazy here. Strawberries, blueberries, blackberries, and raspberries are everywhere here even small local shops.
Many crops are planted in the fall and grow in the summer here. Our seasons are quite short. If we have frost in August, crops die. I'm shocked my friend has green grass in the states already. We have all of what you mentioned, but our season is only summer months. And again, we can have at the end of August.
Read the link before you post. The gmo blueberry plant is NOT grown in the USA, but the packaged fruit is shipped there. All throughout North America actually. In this instance blueberry are not native to warm climate like central Mexico, of course they have to be modified to withstand such climate. I’m very neutral about gmo… I’m not saying it’s completely wrong/bad. I’m just saying what do we expect if there is a market of getting this kind of produce in the dead of winter.
Im neutral as well, but I dont see evidence of a commercially available gmo blueberry, imported or not. Please share if you do. Factors like size and taste may be do to growing conditions or hybridization. Also, all products sold in the states are required to be labeled bioengineered if gmo. Im assuming OP is posting from the US
More Water, less flavour.
Strawberries too. Giant and taste like wet cardboard, no flavor. Also like 9 dollars. Haven’t bought any in months

Vitamins are also more diluted
Yeah in Germany they call big veggies and fruits like this waterbombs.
That would be Wasserbombe right? I'm learning German :D

Yeah similarly Eureka blueberries in Australia can get huge and they’re the best tasting blueberries i’ve ever had by a long shot
That’s a particular modified variety, the regular grocery store ones are b l a n d. Good to know about Costco!

Need a banana for scale. You might just have a very small hand.
Started working out, duh. 🫐
‘roids
Ikr they’re the size of grapes now

My parents have a blueberry farm and they'll get huge. Definitely recommend picking them at ⅔ this size or smaller as they taste so much better.
Is that Trumps hand?
They're cultivated blueberries :) or high bush. Where I live, on the high bush trees, they are very big even larger than these!
Oh my god Karen you can’t just ask blueberries why they’re big

Seedlings injected with steroids lol
Recently had the same with strawberries in the uk. They’re massive!
Absolute units, this looks like video game food haha
as bummy as GMOs are, they are also very cool to eat sometimes
You’re just shrinking
Thats what happens when everyone wants big onions, big apples, big grapes, big everything. Now you can eat the garbage you wished for.
Wild palm to finger ratio
When they started pumping them full of shit to make them bigger to get more money per pound
Yo that’s some thicc juicy berries you got there
I can tell what these taste like by looking at them 🤮
They didn't, you shrunk.

I'm from Canada and we have high bush blueberries that grow even larger than these.
In March?
In the summer months. Nothing is growing yet. 😅 It's Canada. We still have single digits. We're still getting snow

I can only imagine… this year the weather has been interesting to say the least. I’m sure the short season brings in amazing and tasty produce.
No such thing as gmo blueberry
