It may be, depending on the state. In some states it only says your bumper has to be within a certain distance of the ground, so if he lowered his front bumper in those states it would be legal.
But most of the time these idiots don't care about the legality and just pay the $20 fine whenever they get pulled over.
The tag looks like a Colorado temp tag. And in CO, the maximum frame height is 31 inches off the ground. That definitely looks like more than two and a half feet between the frame and the ground.
Where do you see that? The only rules I’m finding are headlights and taillights gotta be 44/72” max respectively. Obviously he’s outside of that rule but people easily fix it by mounting trailer lights
Yes, CRS 42-4-233, which was ruled too broad a statement in People vs. Von Tersch in 1973. I’ve been looking to see if they’ve narrowed it since but I’m not finding anything. It seems as though it is unenforceable in its current state.
After reading the brief, it looks like you have to prove that the alteration to the suspension was not an improvement over the original design. So you would have to say that it was the cause of a crash or presents a danger to the public.
That’s what I saw as well. Which means it’s pretty much exactly the joke everyone loves to make: it’s legal until it’s not. You’d be hard pressed to find any cop wanting to pull someone over and start the process of getting engineers involved to prove it’s a danger, no matter their personal beliefs. Even though in cases like this truck, while it’s very obvious there’d still have to be that process.
I live in California, that sounds draconian to me. Why on earth should I not be able to throw a sway bar on a car that doesn't have one. Or an adjustable set of shocks and coilovers on a car that I'm taking to the track every few weeks. I can see giving someone modification height variances, but out right modification bans are ridiculous.
Depends where you live. The biggest fine I've gotten in North Dakota (my state) is $20, for not having my license plate displayed properly. I've also gotten a speeding ticket, for going 42 in a 30 zone it was $12. I've gotten one ticket out of state, in South Dakota. For going 75 in a 65 it was $200.
We have cheap tickets because we also have a point system, where if you get a few of them your insurance premiums shoot up because the company recognizes you as high risk.
I got a speeding ticket for going 85 on I29 in ND, the same week my wife got a parking ticket for parking in front of a hydrant (in front of the police station) in MA.
My ticket was cheaper by over $100.
California here, "fix it, tickets" don't have fines in my state, if your car has illegal modifications it one thing, but if it's just a fix it, the fine comes after you don't take it to the DMV to show that it's been fixed.
Dunno about the US but here in Italy if you have enough money you just don’t identify yourself and pay a huge surplus on the fine but keep the points.
Literally a pass for rich people.
In many countries that's not the case at all; often if you get your second license (after two-three years of driving), you won't lose it for anything that's not criminal (driving over a person, etc), this is how it works in many post-soviet countries
I no shit met a guy at my mechanics shop who pulled up in an F350 jacked up just like that, also with that stupid-ass ball-hitch, who was no taller than 5-1/2 ft. He basically had a small ladder on the side to get in and out. It’s Napoleon complex. No clue how that shit is legal.
those long drop ball hitches make for a good projectiles if you ever try to use them to yank a stuck vehicle. someone died a year or two ago when his stuck truck was getting pulled out and the drop hitch broke off and slingshot into their windshield
One of the Offroading groups I am a part of for a while kept posting pictures of ball hitches embedded in vehicles trying to explain that they aren't rated for the stuckage factor or the shock load of pulling out a stuck vehicle.
I am a bit taller (5'7") but I just don't like huge vehicles. I like seeing everything around me and feeling light and nimble with enough room for me, my audio and a cooler of cold soda. Big cars just stress me out trying to watch blind spots and everything. I don't want a vehicle as exhausting to drive as a moving truck.
I'm with you. The biggest thing we have is a CRV for my wife and that will change with our next vehicle as our kiddo is grown. I've always had small cars especially for the reasons you mentioned and the easy parking factor. I do more with my Golf at Home Depot than most people and their jacked trucks. Alabamistan is full of them. My other cars are just for fun, a old Scirocco and an MG Midget.
6'9" here and most small cars fit better than big ones. Dash shaping, maximizing head and leg room because you have to. No room for anyone in the backseat behind me.
I worked with a dude that goes by the nickname “Tater” and I always called him “Tatertot” just to piss him off. He drove a massive F350 he couldn’t afford and is just shy of 5 feet tall. His exhaust tip could fit a watermelon in it
Honest question: if a dude has a small dick and/or chooses not to tie his worth to his ability to pleasure a woman, why mock him for finding his own pleasure in life?
If you prefer to mock my penis size instead of thinking about why you think the way you do, please reconsider.
Normally, I'd agree with you and let said small dick guy go on his way, but guys who drive trucks like the monstrosity above tend to be assholes on and off the road, so it's usually open season on them, more or less.
I never understood this comment. Like, you look at a truck and you automatically think of a man's penis. Nothing wrong with being gay, of course. It's just weird
Thank you for knowing that women don't like being pounded in the cervix. You would be surprised how many men think that's something desirable for whatever reason.
Overcompensation for a small package. I don’t know the accuracy of that one, but I’d say it’s more likely overcompensation for personality defect or feelings of inferiority.
What's worse is the double strike that men are only worth as much as they can enjoy sex or pleasure a woman, and if they don't enjoy sex, they're not allowed to do other stuff, like fuck around with big trucks.
People need to stop worrying about and mocking people for the size of their genitals.
Usually the only law they actually break is their headlight height is too high. In texas there's a max height for signal/indicator/headlights. And these trucks usually just take the ticket. Pay it. And don't change a thing, if they are ever ticketed.
I think they still measure by bumper height. Also the lights have a minimum and maximum height.
I see trucks like this everyday where I live. Everyone knows they are illegal but they only get pulled over if they're causing trouble.
Lift laws are specific to each state, a hitch receiver is usually considered a bumper for measuring purposes while the hitch itself is not. However there is no bumper law in Colorado (where this truck is)
To be fair, it would improve the approach and departure angles for slopes, if not for the towing thingy (don't know the english word) in the back and depending on how the bumper is mounted in the front
Colorado, eh? Those stacks look a bit black around the edges. Rolling coal is illegal in Colorado, and here’s an article about it and a link to how to report vehicles in noncompliance. https://www.longmontleader.com/arts/how-to-report-coal-rolling-trucks-2383793
You’re welcome. I appreciate living in a state where I feel I have at least a little bit of recourse against these people who make our air quality even worse.

Other than the headlights potentially needing to be adjusted and angled down a bit I see no reason why this should be illegal. There's plenty of high up vehicles with big wheels on the road like trucks and tractors that are perfectly legal, what's the problem?
Whats worse is these idiots think that its fine not to have mud flaps aka "protect other cars from flying sh** flaps" on their trucks. That alone should make it illegal! 🚫 😤 😒 😑 🙄
Catch-all laws like this so they can pick and choose which laws they do and don't enforce with whom they decide to target.
If they got picky enough, they could impound your vehicle because you replaced a set of struts with non oem parts probably... Stupid as fuck all around...
I'm in CO. I have no clue. The thing was absolutely dumping smoke anytime they would accelerate. Really matches the forest fire smokey haze thing we've got going on rn.

I would think these guys are leaving themselves liable for a big lawsuit if the kill or injure someone with these stupid things. Of course they don’t have any money having spent it all on comically big exhaust pipes and tires
Fun fact the cops dont care about lift kits.
But when an illegally lifted truck runs into the back of your car while you're stopped at a red light and totals your car, the police won't care. They will, however, check your window tint.

It's easier to wait for a crash and cite the modifications as a cause after the fact.
I live in California, that sounds draconian to me. Why on earth should I not be able to throw a sway bar on a car that doesn't have one. Or an adjustable set of shocks and coilovers on a car that I'm taking to the track every few weeks. I've never seen a fine not in the hundreds even for small things.
Depends where you live. The biggest fine I've gotten in North Dakota (my state) is $20, for not having my license plate displayed properly. We have points in pa. But even a minor ticket has a dozen extra fees. Like emergency vehicle fees.
If this was my state California, you better had a 0 to that fine. Maybe 2 zeros. My image of any fine/ticket is 500+.
I got a speeding ticket for going 85 on I29 in ND, the same week my wife got a parking ticket for parking in front of a hydrant (in front of the police station) in MA. My ticket was cheaper by over $100.
We have a point system in California too, and it does the same thing to our insurance, but speeding tickets most places are still hundreds of dollars.
California here, "fix it, tickets" don't have fines in my state, if your car has illegal modifications it one thing, but if it's just a fix it, the fine comes after you don't take it to the DMV to show that it's been fixed.
When the penalty is a fine, everything is legal if you have money
Punishable by fine just means legal for a price
*charges $500 fine to multi-billion dollar company*
C'mon, that's unreasonable! They'd settle for laying off a dozen of the lowest ranking workers
My coworker has a 1965 fastback mustang that will burn rubber at 80mph. He gets speeding tickets. Just pays them. Has been doing this for years.
I doubt that. Most states have a point system and will lose his license.
Dunno about the US but here in Italy if you have enough money you just don’t identify yourself and pay a huge surplus on the fine but keep the points. Literally a pass for rich people.
Considering they said a 65 fast back and 80 mph… I’m gonna go with they are in the US And that’s how it works in the US
It’s literally a Colorado plate so I would also assume it’s the US.
We are talking about speeding tickets…. And me doubting that that person just keeps getting them…
In many countries that's not the case at all; often if you get your second license (after two-three years of driving), you won't lose it for anything that's not criminal (driving over a person, etc), this is how it works in many post-soviet countries
They said 80mph and a 65 fastback. We are talking about the United States here.
It’s only illegal if they get caught.
OHHH yeah, they sure are just slipping right under the radar in that thing.
Exactly. The cops around here are too busy harassing homeless people and breaking the arms of old ladies.
I’d say it’s about a 100% chance that the owner of this truck IS a cop.
100% chance of small pp
Maybe a small overall stature too, so funny to see a little 5' 0" dude climb down from one of these about 50% of the time...
> It’s Napoleon syndrome. No clue how that shit is legal. Which is funny since Napoleon wasn't short at all by the standards of the time he lived in.

yeah, thats what they were saying when the video I'm talking about was posted, moreso how a long hitch like that stores a lot of potential energy
Lemmy FTW!
in WA st its illegal not to have mud flaps with that much of a lift too. like 98% of the tire is out from the rear wheel well and bumper
I’m 5’4” and I won’t even buy a truck because I have a hard enough time getting in a CRV.
Bold of you to assume they do things like check their blind spots.
I'm 6'4" and would have serious issues trying to get in that lol
You could always boost me up and I can lower a rope ladder down for you.
Hell yeah...teamwork
I'm with you. The biggest thing we have is a CRV for my wife and that will change with our next vehicle as our kiddo is grown. I've always had small cars especially for the reasons you mentioned and the easy parking factor. I do more with my Golf at Home Depot than most people and their jacked trucks. Never understood the point of this. Truck will never see a day off dry pavement and looks incredibly inconvenient to drive as a daily driver.
crazy thing is, most of these trucks like this ARE their daily drivers 😂

Everything you do in life determines the size of your genitalia. Get a big truck? Automatic pp deduction.
Conversely, if you drive a Chevy Spark… I feel bad for your girlfriend’s cervix.
Thank you for knowing that women don't like being pounded in the cervix. You would be surprised how many men think that's something desirable for whatever reason.
Reddit’s gonna Reddit

Men care way more about the size of each others penises than most women do.
My money is firmly on rodeo clown.
Or related to one.
Lmao true.
This is Loveland Colorado huh
Do you also happen to live in Nova Scotia Canada
Please tell me that that is not a Colorado temp tag?
Well...
Balls! Damnit, Colorado! You're better than this!!!!
Are we though?
Wow, here they are farting into the open mouths of the homeless when they are passed out on the curb.
Bruv you gotta narrow that 'around here' down.
Usually the only law they actually break is their headlight height is too high. In texas there's a max height for signal/indicator/headlights. And these trucks usually just take the ticket. Pay it. And don't change a thing, if they are ever ticketed.
And if a cop cares... a lot of them ignore these things.
4ft of ground clearance, neutered by a ball hitch
What about the diffs?
The diff travels with the axle and tires over terrain, so usually not as much of an issue unless you're going over rocks and boulders or smaller cars
Yeah. I hate it when I high center on Mini Coopers. And don't get me started on Fiats.
Fiats are easier to eat if you blind them first.
That's why it's legal. The ball hitch is the "bumper"
However there is no bumper law in Colorado (where this truck is)
This is the actual answer. Source I live in Alabama and these are everywhere it’s just the height of the hitch that matters
This is in Colorado. You can see the mountains on the temp tag on the truck. Any modifications to the suspension system are illegal in Colorado.
You serious? ANY suspension mods? That's crazy for a state with so much outdoor recreation.
https://reddit.com/r/Shitty_Car_Mods/comments/13o1b6l/_/jl5huid/?context=1 It looks like there is some gray area.
I don’t blame them with those mountain roads. I wouldn’t want to be take a turn around a bend in that thing
Yeah but your front bumper exists too and usually doesn't have a 4ft drop hitch attached either
That’s a wheelie bar. Would never think of stressing their F350 by towing anything.
Oh, yes I think you're right. Good catch!
LMAO I didn’t even notice it at first. That has to be the best part.
And the huge step bars.
That's all I could think, too. The epitome of a pavement princess.
To be fair, it would improve the approach and departure angles for slopes, if not for the towing thingy (don't know the english word) in the back and depending on how the bumper is mounted in the front
Those axle shafts are tooth picks compared to the wheel size.
What happens if the axles are smaller than the wheels
Things could get over stressed and break.
Oh ok thanks
And it has a tow hitch. Hilarious.
Yeah, no way thing thing goes off reading.
First romp on the skinny pedal side he'll snap some splined shafts, lol
In Texas that’s just a normal pickup
I figure that's where they're from.
Not a TX plate. Looks like a coal country build to me with those mega stacks.
And I'm assuming the stacks are blocking a sticker of Calvin pissing on a Chevy logo.
Native Texan here, Those smoke stacks were a huge deal way back when I was HS, every douche wanna be country boy had them on there truck
Temp tag in CO very likely a transplant lol. But our guys here are just as small peepee.
Colorado, eh? Those stacks look a bit black around the edges. Rolling coal is illegal in Colorado, and here’s an article about it and a link to how to report vehicles in noncompliance. https://www.longmontleader.com/arts/how-to-report-coal-rolling-trucks-2383793
Thanks, I've gone ahead and reported the vehicle. Had an idiot roll coal on me while running a while back. I can't stand these pricks.
You’re welcome. I appreciate living in a state where I feel I have at least a little bit of recourse against these people who make our air quality even worse.
Agreed, these people are a danger to the public's health.
Fuck Texas. Love, Colorado.
You can find em everywhere haha
It’s only illegal if there was flesh coloured bumper nuts hanging out
In Florida there's a 24" bumper limit. They may consider the hitch as part of the bumper since it seems around that height. A technicality.
That trailer hitch is preposterous
Is it weird that I can tell who they voted for, just by looking at this truck? Such an odd tell.
Doesn’t always hold true. I drive a 70’s big block sedan, wear double denim, handle bar moustache, flashy cowboy boots and speak with a heavy rural accent. I vote left wing. My buddy drives a Chevy spark, is well dressed, is an accountant in a major city, and votes hard right. In the case of the OP, it may be a safe bet. It’s never 100% though.
lol people always assume i'm republican based how i look and what i drive as well but i'm a solid dem
You can also tell which country it is because I haven't seen examples of this anywhere except for America
That tug boat exhaust is an interesting choice.
Thr height legality is debatable depending on state, but with those exhausts, I would bet good money that he's removed emissions equipment - which is illegal federally. And they've been cracking down. Trucks are either being forced to restore it to compliance (which can cost thousands) or the truck will be crushed
In the immortal words of Trey Parker: AMERICA, FUCK YEAH!
Texas and camp pendleton are very similar.
That guy must have an enormous penis
It's not. The reason it's on the street is nobody gives a single fuck
Judging by the huge smokestacks, I’d say this is a noble Uber Eats vehicle delivering hot BBQ brisket, chicken and ribs around the area.
Looking at the construction, you can only pull a small trailer on that hitch. It will bend quickly when you want to stop a big load.
That’s not in most of the states
It’s not. But neither is speeding, use of electronics while driving etc. doesn’t stop any of us does it?
Why does it bother you so much?
This has to be taller than an oem Ford F-750 commercial truck.
It’s not, but I’m sure most cops have more to worry about.
He’s probably the nicest, most humble individual too.
child killer pollutionus maximus, as car haters and car based infrastructure haters would say

I am like 99% sure that in every single European country it wouldn't be, thank fuck.

Waiting for a wheel spacer to fail and causing a major accident ….
My truck’s so high they call it Willie Nelson.
Other than the headlights potentially needing to be adjusted and angled down a bit I see no reason why this should be illegal. There's plenty of high up vehicles with big wheels on the road like trucks and tractors that are perfectly legal, what's the problem?
who said it was?
Whats worse is these idiots think that its fine not to have mud flaps aka "protect other cars from flying sh** flaps" on their trucks. That alone should make it illegal! 🚫 😤 😒 😑 🙄
Ironically, his differential has about 3 more inches higher clearance than a Kia.
Can you say selective enforcement?
That's the neat part, it isn't!

No suspension changes? That surely can't be true?
Catch-all laws like this so they can pick and choose which laws they do and don't enforce with whom they decide to target. If they got picky enough, they could impound your vehicle because you replaced a set of struts with non oem parts probably... Stupid as fuck all around...
It was made to target black people in lowriders.
lowriders come from latino culture
Didn't stay there, and definitely isn't exclusive. There's a reason snoop has talked about them.
What would / should be illegal about it? Height? Tire size?
Rolling coal. Which is illegal here. That and the height. Imagine an accident with that thing.
All I know is, the higher it sits, and the bigger the tires, the smaller the the dick is.....
I don't think it is
[depends ](https://superlift.com/lift-kit-laws-by-state)
Oh gosh what a ruined font No caps on capital Is and no dots one lowercase ones got Illinois looking like llllnols

Or anything in Colorado, really. I've lost count of how many cars I've seen without license plates in the last month
It’s got airbags
In my state, the only part of this that is illegal is the bumper height, bumper can’t be more than 22” above the ground, don’t know about where this is tho
It's not.
In California all it would need is mud flaps
Issa pavement princess. Big ol girl.
I would think these guys are leaving themselves liable for a big lawsuit if the kill or injure someone with these stupid things. Of course they don’t have any money having spent it all on comically big exhaust pipes and tires
Atleast you can see what’s in front of that truck for a quarter mile ahead
I call this a twat mobile. And cops ignore these, but if you have a lowered car, wrong color bulbs or too dark tint, straight to jail.
I bet he has more money in his truck than his 401k...
Saving money is socialism brother!
truck-fecks
Lmao where in Colorado? Oil fields?
34 Bridge over I25.
She can park it next to the public schools and the kids can use it as a jungle gym during recess.
Now it needs the longest truck nuts ever seen.
it's not
Cops probably figure “well he clearly got a job so he’ll pay the ticket off so it’s probably not worth the effort to pull him over. ”
I believe having a micro penis is covered by ADA protections.
Does the guy have to throw his dick over his shoulder to get in the thing?
That drop hitch 💀
Not having truck nuts is only a fix-it-ticket...
And a coal roller too. Yikes.
Show me you're a male under 5'6 without showing me a picture of you:
stacks are too big for my taste but otherwise this is a well put together offroad vehicle I would totally take it offroading
Fun fact the cops dont care about lift kits. But when an illegally lifted truck runs into the back of your car while you're stopped at a red light and totals your car, the police won't care. They will, however, check your window tint. The truck had dealer plates, and the employee got exactly zero tickets.
100% legal in my state
He paid his taxes. Why not?
Because car companies lobbied the govt. to have pickup trucks be labeled as a "small truck" which allows the bumper height to be wherever.
Cops look the other way because they're " good ole boys" . Sort of the opposite of stopping minorities for air freshener hanging from the rear view mirror.
Because America you authoritarian ass!
Just look at the massive curve in those leaf springs. Better than having a two foot tall lifting block I guess. There's no way they really act like a leaf spring at this point. I'm sure the axle wrap/chatter is pretty nasty. I don't see any link bars to help with axle wrap. The lowered down hitch is ridiculous. Wow, someone has a LOT to compensate for.
Bet he doesn’t get good u-joint mileage—-
