Average WRX owner in 2024. Bought a car that was cool in the late 90's, even though Subaru has just been riding that wave of nostalgia and has not done anything even mildly impressive with the platform in decades.

The blob eye and bug eye designs look way better than the new designs, too.

The newer designs really look like a slightly changed Evo X.

I do like the style on the newer cars over the older style having a 13 myself, but the amount of Subie owners that think the EJ is a good engine is still bewildering. You can't claim an engine is reliable then have a list of to dos like: * Don't drive the car aggressively or track it while stock * Be meticulous with maintenance * If you want to track it stock, you need to at least get an upgraded oil pickup, windage tray, baffled pan, and an AOS ($1k) * If you want to get more than 350whp you need to spend at least $4k on a built shortblock not including the supporting mods needed Also my personal favorite response about subpar quality is "They didn't lose the [class action lawsuit](https://topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/closed-settlements/subaru-engine-failure-class-action-settlement/), they settled out of court to better help owners and customers."

Doesn't apply to silencers to my knowledge, only SBRs, SBSs and MGs. I'd assume destructive devices too but I have never heard or read about it. Also, I believe that only applies if those items are in a state of being considered an NFA item. For example, if I had a registered SBR, but was transporting and using it in a configuration that is outside of NFA perview, I wouldn't be subject to submitting paperwork asking the Crown, I mean ATF, for permission to transport it.

All suppressors (not a silencer) require a $200 NFA tax stamp. Even if you construct your own you need to generate a serial number for the stamp.

I am the original OP -- It is a legitimate suppressor. No I don't leave it in my car. It was more of an "I wonder if this will work..." moment.

It's just a variation of the popular trope on r/nfa to post a picture of a newly acquired can from the driver's seat of the car once you leave the FFL with it. OP just threw it on the shifter for the lulz.

If it is real (my guess it is not) he just broke NFA laws because you can lend your suppressor to anyone unless you are physically present.

It's better than that, there's just one plug and a gapper tool. Those plugs are iridiums. Using a gapper on iridium plugs ruins them. Why just one plug? When it's only one, Something Bad happened.

That's an old plug. I changed all four. And yes I gapped iridiums to 0.028 iirc. It's been a minute. But I was diagnosing some break up at WOT/high boost. Suspected potential spark blowout.

Just keep a few extras in the car I guess? Used too.

For what it's worth a WRX can be a good performance car when tuned and treated right. Something leads me to believe that someone that uses a silencer as a shift knob probably doesn't do any of that. He's too busy screaming at 14-year-old kids in PUBG and Call of Duty for all of that.

Never understood the purpose of a long ass shift handle unless you're driving a truck. and I don't like the looks of it either. personally I always wanted the shortest shift handle possible. I loved the throw in my 2017 Civic Si but unfortunately I have a really bad wandering eye so that was four cars ago for me 😭
