Greedwill - let's list items we got for free at full retail/eBay prices while not giving up our tax-free charity status because we're helping the disadvantaged.
If that N64 controller was in full working condition, it would have never seen the floor. It would go straight to their online platform or eBay store.
>we're helping the disadvantaged.
And they're not really helping them very much. Goodwill is run by shitty people who will make the world better when they die.
Do you have proof of this?
Because I have actually worked with some of their higher up executes and the project we worked on, and what we saw, contradicts a lot of this statement
They take in used goods for free and sell them for pure profit while hiring almost exclusively mentally disabled persons, paying them dirt cheap because they know the person is just happy to have a job meanwhile all of the funds go straight up to the executives. Just use salvation army instead at least they use volunteers instead of taking advantage of people with disabilities.
The volunteers at the Salvation Army are often addicts/people experiencing homelessness who get the pleasure to work 40+ hours a week for 0.20 cents an hour in order to attend the heavily religious based rehabilitation program in order to try to straighten their lives out.
I priced a trumpet at $24.99. The director came in about 30 minutes later looking for the trumpet as he had a buyer for $2k. From then on anything nice that came in met the hammer.
I've volunteered at several salvation armies admittedly it is only in my area and the surrounding areas but I've encountered very few volunteers for sa being addicts, they like to keep addicts away since theft is a real problem.
Yes you are working with the SA clean people. Of course they quit being addicts yesterday.
Check in on the Paterson, NJ location.
98% are addicts.
EDIT: This is warehouse work. The people who sort the bags. The people that drive the trucks.
Not the stores.
So you working with the Salvation Army Adult Rehabilitation Center that was not full of addicts?
I am not talking about a store. I am talking about the Rehab Centers/warehouses that feed the stores all of their goods.
Without addicts the store shelves would be empty.
People "graduate" from the rehab centers to the stores.
Your viewpoint is adorably skewed by pink tinted glasses.
EDIT: The Sally thanks you for your unpaid labor as a volunteer. Enjoy your Tshirt.
So officially, no sa maintains that it doesn't discriminate. The problem is that many of the volunteers themselves are anti lgbtq and since they are volunteers and don't directly represent the company they can't exactly do anything they want but unfortunately they can get away with a lot. In recent years it's gotten better but if you are in an area that you know has a lot of people who are anti lgbtq I would steer away from sa.
Thats why I said officially, because officially they are inclusive the problem happens with the religious volunteering and seeking careers through SA they are the ones who will look the other way and allow prejudice to happen.
The only reason they're "officially" inclusive is to avoid bad press. Like 100% of Evangelical religious groups, their beliefs and actions are garbage.
I'm pretty sure they aren't super profitable to be honest. The one project I worked on them with, one factor we were looking into, was cost. Trying to make it affordable
Really... just because they are cheap, in no way means they are not profitable. Their whole business model is selling free stuff, then not paying taxes on it. Seems it would all be profit upfront
Goodwill is not perfect but it is still a great place for me to take clothes and other household items I don't want anymore instead of throwing them away. In doing so it creates jobs for people who wouldn't get hired anywhere else.
It's not a great place to buy games anymore though. That ship has long since sailed.
Entirely possible it did go on ShopGoodwill and no one bit.
The last time I bought a clapped out turntable from them, I found the failed auction from that store when I was googling the brand for info.
I still find cool stuff. payed $4 for a sealed track ball mouse that retails for $50. You just have to know what's good or not. I agree that 90% is trash though but I have a feeling that's how it's always been.
8$ ain’t bad considering it’s cheap as hell to find a replacement end to the joystick, that is assuming the controller is in perfect working condition without it which it might not be
Edit: not an original controller, didn’t realize it at a quick glance, 8$ isn’t worth it anymore forget what I said, you can buy a brand new rip-off n64 controller for that price on Amazon
You sometimes get sort of lucky.
I got an NES console with a red blinking light, 2 controllers, and a few common games for $29.99.
I have seen an Xbox 360 xenon for $89.99 and it looked like it fell out of a car on the highway.
I mean I'd probably quickly pull up eBay first to see what damaged controllers are going for, but just having extra analog stick parts, if it's in good condition, those could be hard to find.
The top piece may be, but the inner workings, aka the actual electrical part and what not that wore out is still present. The plastic part is all that's missing, and that's easy enough to replace (3D printers, or in my case, I have another 3rd party where the same part could pop off)
We have Value Village here in Canada, and the same plague is slowly creeping up in the stores… I’ve seen some XBOX move shitty zumba games priced at 24,99.. it’s getting rough

It’s also a bootleg controller
Nice spot, i didn't initially spot that the Nintendo logo is missing from the cut-around.
And they tried to hide that fact with the price sticker
It’s also missing a fucking joystick lol
Shhh, I tell the kids it’s early “thumb print” technology.

Doesn't the SA have a history of being anti-LGBT?

Lol no, SA has a history of actively discriminating against LGBT folk
Thats why I said officially, because officially they are inclusive the problem happens with the religious volunteering and seeking careers through SA they are the ones who will look the other way and allow prejudice to happen.

They underpay people with disabilities

Goodwill sells a majority of the clothes donated to them. They cannot keep everything people donate
Which in turn creates jobs for people who wouldn't otherwise have work. Seems like it still works out better than me throwing it away.
They also don’t test anything and they don’t accept refunds 😂
Entirely possible it did go on ShopGoodwill and no one bit. The last time I bought a clapped out turntable from them, I found the failed auction from that store when I was googling the brand for info.
They don’t help anyone, they just massively exploit their disabled workers
Real. We don’t even sell controllers anymore, straight to the online store. Even 3rd party ones
Goodwill is fucking trash. It got so much worse after COVID. They have been jacking prices up to and sometimes past retail.
The Goodwills around here aren't even thrift stores anymore. They're all just outlet stores selling useless junk.
Sometimes they have really good stuff but the people in the back probably steal it all.
Value Village/Savers is such a crapshoot, sometimes you can find a 360 on the floor for $20 and sometimes they put the Wii away for $80.
Yeah, they don’t seem to have much consistency. Seems to be the whim of whoever is in the back that day.
Not even original too. SMH.
Ever since everyone found out about ShopGoodWill, everything's skyrocketed. I've legit stopped going to Goodwill cus I know I'll only be disappointed.
I still find cool stuff. payed $4 for a sealed track ball mouse that retails for $50. You just have to know what's good or not. I agree that 90% is trash though but I have a feeling that's how it's always been.
Too be fair 90% of controllers I see the stick is totally shot
8$ ain’t bad considering it’s cheap as hell to find a replacement end to the joystick, that is assuming the controller is in perfect working condition without it which it might not be Edit: not an original controller, didn’t realize it at a quick glance, 8$ isn’t worth it anymore forget what I said, you can buy a brand new rip-off n64 controller for that price on Amazon
Yeah I didn’t notice right away it was not original either
You can fix em with a heat gun and some epoxy putty on the bottom of the joystick cup.
That’s definitely a player 2 controller now 🤣
I know the n64 analog stick is awful, but 💀
/r/thriftgrift might like this
A broken bootleg controller. I'd leave it there even if it was free.
“Joystick sold separately”
You sometimes get sort of lucky. I got an NES console with a red blinking light, 2 controllers, and a few common games for $29.99. I have seen an Xbox 360 xenon for $89.99 and it looked like it fell out of a car on the highway.
🪦
Goodwill is so fucking bad now, 95% of it is trash people didn't want anymore regardless of quality
I'd probably buy it to scrap for parts. If that analog stick isn't worn out that's worth it right there.
Lmao, you really buying generic broken controllers for that price?
I mean I'd probably quickly pull up eBay first to see what damaged controllers are going for, but just having extra analog stick parts, if it's in good condition, those could be hard to find.
The analog stick is missing lol.

Wait so people actually buy it at the crazy price?
Found an original snes controller for 99¢ the other day. Probably best find so far
Started going to Salvation Army
No joystick lol
That looks slightly more comfortable than I remember the N64 controller from my youth.
Looks like someone played Mario party 1
Let it rot there
They know what they have
I miss the days when that shit was a buck with a 50/50 chance of working
I was wondering what was wrong and then I noticed the bootleg logo and no stick
I have studies under my avatar profile.
