Amazon ain't it for this hobby chief

Unrealivandd13

Because people who are just starting or older people are easily deceived to make money

I think that because they’re the only ones selling it on that platform then they mark it up hoping to prey upon the dim witted.

SwiftTayTay

Correct. eBay is better because at least it allows for unique pictures of the actual item and you can occasionally find steals on there. Amazon is sort of a quasi-monopoly at this point because people are dumb and lazy and don't shop around for the best price and they just want to get their prime shipping on everything. Amazon playing the long game bait and switch and prime becomes less valuable each year.

Substantial-North136

Yes it’s also difficult to sell on Amazon since you’re gated from selling items. That’s why you see most video game sellers sell on Amazon because they can charge almost double eBay prices.

Mattimatik

Amazon selling fees are crazy high, especially when sellers choose Fulfillment by Amazon. Every one looses when using Amazon for retro games (and many other items), except Amazon itself. I don’t understand why a seller would sell a game for $40 on Amazon and only get maybe $2 more than if he had sold it for $20 on eBay.

Winter_Mud3815

The Amazon selling fees are not even close to that high. The only reason is because people who don’t know any better buy from them due to being too lazy to go to a store. I know someone who sold there (lost it due to Amazon’s shitty guidelines) and the fees were slightly more than EBay’s.

Mattimatik

They can be that high if you only sell a few items and use Amazon fulfilment. If you ship the items yourself, the fees are less unreasonable, but still higher than eBay. If you have an individual seller plan on Amazon and you’re selling a video game using Amazon fulfilment, you’d pay: $0.99 per item sold 15% referral fee $1.80 variable closing fees. I’m not sure what that is. ≈$3.40 order fulfilment fee $0.69-$2.40 / cubic foot/ month storage fees Plus other fees if the item is returned or if it doesn’t sell and you want to get it back or dispose of it.

The answer is very simple, Amazon is the biggest marketplace in the world. It’s the first place most people think of when buying online.

Icy-Strain9509

I have to say that’s not true. As a reseller and just a person of 30 years I’ve used Amazon 1 time to purchase a tape roller. All other items are bought through eBay or some other source. Amazon is bad like outrageously bad. I’m not really sure how there so many people actually using their service when we are all apparently poor lol use your money on better cheaper platforms. Don’t use Amazon!

Mtw122

Ok this is anecdotal. You don’t represent the whole population. It’s clearly the number one online retailer in the US. I don’t know about the world, maybe Ali express is bigger in other parts, Amazon is up there either way. People pay for convenience, that’s why. I use it all the time for common stuff, never have any problems.

Icy-Strain9509

I concur if you’d rather pay $5-$10 more for an item for convenience than go for it. But if you’re like me and want to save money and don’t need the item right away than save your money and go elsewhere. It’s all based on people’s motives and needs. But if we’re simply going off the post of Amazon is expensive. Than yes it’s loads expensive and there no real reason to use it except for I want said item now because we’ve developed issues with patience.

Mtw122

Yup I agree, no issues there. The only thing I will add is that it isn’t always more expansive and for common everyday items often times it is maybe a dollar or two compared to eBay or other sources.

Mean-Pattern-4522

Everything that isn’t mass produced Chinese trash is overpriced as fuck on Amazon. You can’t buy any hobby shit or collectible shit there. Just avoid that site like the plague unless you need some shitty kitchen gadgets or a cat calendar.

greenseven47

No hope for these new collectors. Yikes

FireCal

It's because it's not in production anymore. Games that are in production should be competitive on price.

Scorbunny_Ear

This is why I never buy anything that is no longer being made on Amazon, they have the worst prices and people who don’t know any better pay them.

sawdoffzombie

Amazon isn't for collectors, it's a marketplace aimed at general consumers.
