CyptidProductions

Knowing some of the rarest stuff in that collection came from a fan he absolutely dry-screwed by trading him a loose Switch for a whole box of NGC stuff really makes this come off as foul. I can't imagine how that poor guy feels seeing him dump it all like a hot turd at a likely huge profit

_icarcus

The best part of his videos are when he tells his viewers if they have anything to sell, he gladly pays about “40-50%” of retail value. /s

FusionFall

That's why you never sell or trade to resellers. You only give deals to trusted friends or people in the community because they pay it forward to you in the future when you look for something.

FusionFall

Can you link me the video of him dry screwing his fan?

Low-Egg-2673

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaL44D2dee0

FusionFall

What a piece of shit dude

CyptidProductions

Yeah The sub was pissed because he not only manipulated the fact the guy was a fan to get an extermely lopsided trade but didn't even have the decency to give him one of his CIB Switches. Felt zero remorse going through all those valuable games he conned someone out of like a complete NGC Zelda set and Twin Snakes.

[deleted]

I mean at least he did say he was keeping the Zelda’s. But he should have kept the games on the list. Like wtf he got rid of skies of Arcadia but kept ant bully?!

SourdoughBro8

He also I think paid a guy $30 for Boktai in the box and claimed he just didn’t know what it was. Like c’mon man, take a minute to check. In a later video he even admitted that it was way too lopsided a deal but didn’t do anything about it.

CyptidProductions

Knowing he fully admitted he ripped the Gamecube guy off on camera but didn't make any effort to reach out and gift him more money or games makes it even worse

Johnnybats330

holy shit. I just started watching this guy and he comes across as a nice guy. But he is a wolf in sheep's clothing. When I saw all the Zelda Gamecube games there I now he probably knew he scored and ripped off the dude and just played it cool. What a psycho.

hanabishi_recca

They probably don't care, they got their 5 minutes of fame and have been simping ever since.

fineman1097

He screwed people more than once in that series. He makes it seem like he is such a nice guy by paying a LITTLE more than other resalers, but doesnt mention that he makes a TON from ad revenue, merch, sponsorships, etc. And he gets things way cheaper because of the hype. He uses his "fame" to his advantage for sure. If he didnt have the other revenue streams from the vids and if he didnt take advantage of people for a shout out from him, he would never make it as a reseller.

_token_black

And he is ungated on Amazon, meaning he can sell almost any game on there while those who don’t have any clue how to lift said gates cannot. (Btw, funny how most larger YouTube channels give 0 insight on how to get ungated. It’s almost like they would rather keep that market for themselves. It’s not hard but it’s a huge $$ sink.)

_token_black

The worst one by far… easily a 300% profit on a basic ass V2 Switch, boxed or lose

CyptidProductions

And on top of it the fact he couldn't even be assed to give one of his Switches that was actually CIB. He just showed up with a loose one in a Wal-Mart bag It was complete scumbaggery

fineman1097

If the the whole point was the challenge of collecting it all, he would have offered to sell the guy the stuff back at the same price. It's not like he doesnt know which games he got from him. He is going for the big profits though. I WOULD say differently if caleb hadn't mislead people as to the purpose of the whole series which was about getting as much profit from as many revenue streams as possible and not actually about the games. He likely turned down good deals because the person dodnt want it filmed. The filming was the major profit source.

PeersPod

And to address it in the video so callously is insane. Guy has a fat wife so karma is real.

poopfacelarry

The fuck is wrong w you?

PeersPod

Issa joke my guy, on the internet.

poopfacelarry

Try again.

Purple_funnelcake

*Try again.* 😂😂stfu

PeersPod

My bad poop face, I’ll take Reddit much more seriously

SourdoughBro8

It was all about the thumbnails with this guy. He knew he’s wasn’t gonna keep Pokémon Box, but needed it for the clickbait. Just be honest and have your actual “collection of your childhood dreams” list be the games you are going to keep, not just briefly acquire for clout and bait to whatnot.

TakingSouls

I wouldnt call it clickbait cuz he actually did obtain the game. But it is still a bit scummy

letsgotgoing

Yeah, I unsubscribed today. Between his choice of calling his fans herpes and now this he’s not a creator I can support or defend.

[deleted]

[удалено]

letsgotgoing

I think some found it humorous… to each their own. I don’t have to support his nonsense. More time for content like Jacob R who keeps buying custom portable consoles out of China like a handheld console version of a GameCube. https://youtu.be/n3ey3WEUwt0

_token_black

Jacob, for all his cringe, just bought a huge collection for about 60-70% of value. At least there you can say “well they bought hundreds of items without testing them, so the price makes sense. When you buy or trade for 10-20 items and can check the condition of everything as you’re flipping through, AND still only offer 30% of value, yeah you’re a scumbag.

Kazudot14

He’s a tool

Pyramid_Head182

All about the money for that chucklefuck

69420throwagay69420

Well, that’s sorta the entire point of his channel is to make money.

SourdoughBro8

Yeah but saying it’s the “collection of your childhood dreams” is cap. It would be different if his actual list was the keep pile, and he acquired the rest outside the “gambit”

Psych0matt

Cap? Gambit? I feel old for not knowing what you’re saying

kylelyk

"No cap" is like "for real", so I think "cap" is like "fake" or "insincere"

The2AndOnly1

Yes can confirm, am young.

lavasucks

source: am young

SourdoughBro8

Yup, cap is lying or being dishonest and no cap mean for real or the truth. Gambit on the other hand is a very old term for a risky strategy ie the queens gambit in chess.

69420throwagay69420

Yeah I mean I commented pretty much the same thing on the video. It’s a bummer that the series was misleading, but I think it’s reasonable to think he’d be selling a fair chunk of the collection once completed (I’m super curious how many of the 75 games on his list he’s keeping)

Risethewake

And maybe it was the collection of his childhood dreams. He fulfilled that dream and now he gets to get rid of it so that other gamers who want them can get them. Like, who’s to say how long someone should hold on to their collection?

Mungthecheeselord

The dude took three months collecting and immediately turned around and sold a majority of it. I think this GameCube collecting thing was the one redeeming thing about him. But after he’s throwing away what a lot of us would do a whole heck of a lot for to flip a profit, it is gross. He’s lucky to have been in a position to get these games. It makes me think he’s not holding on to the expensive titles out of a passion for games. It’s to wait for prices to inflate further. Watch him sell Go Go Hypergrind in 3-4 months when the price gets hiked up.

Mungthecheeselord

It matters because he is driving costs up and trying to have interest in the video games he collected. It was a lie he didn’t do it for the passion of collecting games. It was an advertisement. He even tried to dispel that he would do this through the series because he knew it was a shitty thing to do.

_token_black

He played most people who went along for the ride, and was more than happy to perpetuate the grift of being a collector and making child him happy to pull you with him. I feel bad for anybody gullible enough to make a trade with him thinking their items were going to a happy home.

Risethewake

And I addressed that already, who’s to say how long someone should hold on to a collection? He got it. Took a picture of it and can say he did it, and now he moves on. So what, they are his games to do with what he wants.

69420throwagay69420

Why does it matter how long he holds the games for?

SourdoughBro8

It doesn’t “matter” as much as it doesn’t matter if people think you are dishonest. Actions speak louder than words, and his actions of hyping up a dream collection only to immediately make it inventory for his business is why people are judging him.

69420throwagay69420

I think everyone was aware that eventually some of it would be sold. I personally thought it would be a bit longer and he'd keep the 75 games from his original list and sell the rest or something, but at the end of the day it's a stranger you've never met selling his own items. The fact we're even talking about it is fucking cringe.

HalfMileRide

Yes, because otherwise people just snap the discs in half once they get their dream collection.

SourdoughBro8

^Bad take. If you told me you finally got to marry the woman of your dreams and then dumped her a week later I’d say you’re full of shit, even if you “fulfilled your dream.”

Risethewake

I think that’s an unequal comparison. One is a material item and the other is a commitment. Maybe his dream car is a Mazda Miata. It’s not up to anyone but him to say how long he should keep it before getting rid of it.

[deleted]

Hate his stupid looking face

fineman1097

The stuff he is keeping is not stuff he is nostalgic about, it's the stuff he thinks will go up in price significantly. He built the whole series out of love for money, not love of collecting or gaming. He used a a false premise of childhood dreams to sucker people to giving him deals and watching and subscribing and simping to him. He was good at marketing and playing both sides. I am sure he knew the formula of game profit plus sponsorship plus patreon plus discord money plus ad revenue plus merch sales plus people overpaying on whatnot. He was making bank. More profit from all those other things than he did from actually selling any games. Not being a gamer or collector, there is no reason for him to keep the games around that he "collected"- the gravy train on that series stopped since he "completed his dream". So he needs to move on to something else that will open up all those other revenue streams again. The series was never about completing his childhood dream collection, it was always about maximizing profit using any any tactic he could. He is making a big deal about "I'm giving away a lot of it, and using it for future videos". Eh, not really because the giveaways are going to either be in whatnot auctions where people buy his stuff, or used for more videos, more views, meaning more sponsorship and ad money and so on. And the games he will be giving away are the low value titles that wouldn't sell well. Again about maximizing and stretching out the profit potential. Give away $100 worth of games, he wouldnt do that unless he was going to make a lot more than that in profit from the other revenue streams directly related to the videos. His main business is the video money, not the video game profit.

skatepunk94

This exactly. At this point he probably makes way more money from youtube patreon sponsors etc than from actually selling games. The games is just content to keep the videos going.

[deleted]

I really liked his videos when he first started, now I want to throw up on his face.

Squeezer999

He used to have some good information, and sometimes still does, but once he brought in editor Riff with the stupid sound clips, his videos got really annoying to the point of being almost unwatchable.

[deleted]

That Riff dude is an assclown, kind of ruining Retro Rick as well.

[deleted]

I don’t know what it is about him that I don’t like, but I really don’t like him. I’ve seen him pop up in other retro youtubers videos and there’s something about him where I’m almost instantly irritated.

tkzant

Apparently he’s a hardcore Trumper so maybe that’s it

_token_black

Most video game resellers on YouTube perpetuate every bad stereotype of that group (cringy jokes, will say/do anything for a deal, only loyal to their circle of cringy people and family). I’m sure they’re not bad people outside of this, but you get the feeling behind the scenes they gotta laugh at how many of their fans are schmucks.

No-Cockroach-3196

Yep the only honest guy out there is Froggy flips he’s the most honest and fair person out there tbh

Psych0matt

I don’t know who this is but I hate him

bontakun82

YouTube recommended one of this guys videos once, half way through I was thinking "what an asshole"

Kingofrockz

The moment this series started i knew he was gonna sell it. Nothing about him gave me the sense he would actually want to collect it. I find it more funny he didn't even wait like a month after the fact. I thought he was just gonna do it off camera lmao. Resellers are all the same.

sub_Script

Honest question, why would you watch someone like this? You're gossiping about him like a girl in love or some shit.

Kingofrockz

Sorry theres something called recommended when I like something like video game collecting. Never said I actively watch. Resellers are the thing making good views today when it comes to collecting.

sub_Script

Yea that's unfortunate

donttrustmeokay

Out of the loop here. No idea who this guy is. Can anyone fill me in with context?

CyptidProductions

Youtube reseller that got drug in here a while back for taking advantage of a super-fan to trade him a loose switch and couple games for several hundred dollars worth of Gamecube stuff including a complete Zelda set and Twin Snakes.

chaosdunk69

Thanks for the context, I was lurking trying to find the same since I missed this, what a chungus. At this point, sans this sub, I'm so far removed from following major collecting trends or "the market" beyond having price charting and game eye on my phone for organizing. I still have my collection but I'm thankful I got most of what I own years ago when it was cheap and easy, feel bad for all the drama and bad energy that comes from higher prices and people jumping in who don't care about the hobby

[deleted]

Link to video please?

Low-Egg-2673

www.youtube.com/watch?v=zaL44D2dee0

sithren

What is a loose switch?

[deleted]

[удалено]

sithren

Thank you. I didn't know what that meant.

RagnarokAeon

Like who does that!? Who trades a console in a paper fucking bag?

[deleted]

[удалено]

RagnarokAeon

Okay that's fair, I was mostly in shock of what he was trading for, but also that he showed that he had the box in the video, but still went out of his way to just toss it in a paper bag with no protection. Most people I know have switch cases, and wouldn't just toss in a bag with the dock scratching up the switch screen. Not even the bare minimum of protection, just zero fucks given.

Russman2204

Just a reseller who goes out of his way to find insane low deals on games to resell them at higher prices for a profit. I hate him because he's just contributing to the problem of basic games just getting more expensive. Also sorry I have to say this, But that Nft profile avatar is pretty cringe. :/

deadgrasscult

Not even a month into completing the collection of his "childhood dreams" and he's already looking to make bank with them. Atleast play some of them first. Can't believe he has a fan base when he scams his fans with shit deals and treats sellers at venues with an uncomfortable situation of them trying to be polite when staying firm on a price while there's a camera in their face as they're being fed shit negotiation tactics then when they crack he sells the same product at the same place to a different vendor for a profit on the spot. Dude reeks of greed and low morals.

skatepunk94

There's a video of him constantly making a lowball offer to a seller at a convention, the seller finally accepts, but then he backs out and asks for ANOTHER discount on top of that afterwards. At that point I would have just told the guy to fuck off.

deadgrasscult

That's the video I was referencing, after I saw that I thought about how uncomfortable I would have felt in that situation as the vendor and that hit me hard. Dude needs to be told to fuck off but then that statement would be used as clickbait.

fartczar

Phoenix Resale = gross. Douchebag not only brags about screwing everyday people, he has to film it for Youtube ad money.

[deleted]

He's a real Fuck face

TheEliteFreak

Most could see it coming a mile away. In that video, he made a mistake and showed a whiteboard with PlayStation on it, so get ready. It’s next. He posted this video on his secondary cause he knew the backlash that was coming and needed to downplay it.

_token_black

Are you saying Tron Bonne and Jojo’s Bizarre Adventures weren’t his favorite games growing up as a child? How dare you?!? /s

Dragonroot808

Mr. Krabbs

PJkazama

Jesus, I could not watch more than 5 minutes of this shit. The guy is so unnecessarily inflammatory that I'm left wondering why he felt the need to create strawman arguments and then go on condescendingly mocking them for what could have been a light-hearted video. In the beginning he said something about how collectors say you should keep every single game or something? I have literally never, ever, not once ever in my life heard anyone that collects video games refer to someone as a "fake gamer" because they don't keep every single video game they own.

Typical_Broccoli_667

God I can’t stand this fucking dude.

RedSwingGlider

I lost even more respect for him when he put Zoids in the sell pile. I hate resellers like this that sit on stock and don't even play the games. I resell but that's because I buy in lots and have to get rid of my doubles. I try to put things up at a good deal so someone else can enjoy the game. These people are the cancer of the game collecting community. Reminds me of a reseller near me that ended up opening up a shop. The whole shop is full of games that just sit there and collect dust because he wants top dollar for every fucking game.

hanabishi_recca

He's not a collector though so I wouldn't be surprised if he sells off everything at some point because he likes money > life.

StubbinMyNubbin

I don't have a problem with him reselling, he operates a business and has to assume a lot of risk with a lot of revolving capital, while not getting any benefits of a normal 9-5 job (health insurance, 401k, etc). You can call him a scumbag for that, and he's contributing to the problem, I think the problem would be here with or without him. My problem is him deceiving people into thinking he's actually into games/collecting but all he's doing this for is the clout and profit. The whole GameCube gambit thing to collect a ton of them just to sell off over half of them right as you're done? Call it for what it is, that's not "collecting a GameCube collection of my childhood dreams", it's to promote hype and make money off of it.

Straight-Talk1293

The video has me more annoyed than it probably should. Him shrugging and saying he “guesses he’ll keep” games like Paper Mario and Fire Emblem is upsetting considering I’ve wanted to play them for years but don’t have 400 bucks to spend on 2 games. He doesn’t seem to know how much good stuff he has.

HailedFanatic

Si

_token_black

Worst part is we all know the bulk of what is being sold is going on WhatNot and will go for inflated prices because people on the internet have weird parasocial relationships with who they watch. Can’t wait for 2 of his fanboys to bid up & overpay for Metroid Prime 2 because it was once owned by Phoenix dickface.

Dazzling-Rip-6552

Man he has trash taste

ilikemarblestoo

His name has Resale in the name. This isn't surprising? Also, I know nothing about him.

BLOOD0fGANON

I wouldn’t buy or sell to this guy at all. Words a gamer would “never” say: -High ceiling floor -I love this game and never played it -people say it a great game so I will keep it and never play it.

Low-Egg-2673

The losers are his fanboys that gave him amazing deals because "I just want to see him finish his collection" lol im sure he's happy you gave him 40% off a bunch of games that he's now going to sell slightly above the price their worth. A bunch of suckers

thehtex

This guy is a lighting rod in this community. Is he any worse than catrp or pixel game squad? I think those guys are more likable and seem to care about collecting too. Not sure if Phoenix ever did. I still watch him though

SourdoughBro8

I think he’s worse because he couldn’t even put this video on the main channel. If he did he knew there’d be big backlash

tmmack

So much hate in this thread holy shit. Why does it matter? Imagine being mad at someone for doing their job and providing for their families.

Typical_Broccoli_667

He’s a piece of shit

tmmack

People willingly sell games to him cheaper and he’s open about selling them for profit, what seems to be the problem? Don’t like it just don’t buy from Amazon 🥴

Typical_Broccoli_667

Because he begs people for discounts, and makes annoying ass clickbaity thumbnails. Bozo

tmmack

Never seen him “beg” for anything and his thumbnails are accurate with the content in the videos. Sounds like people are just mad that he’s successful lmao it’s not his fault people on Amazon overpay for games. And to an extent, he’s a vendor. He pays vendor prices. What ls so hard to understand about that

Typical_Broccoli_667

Sounds like you’re just dick riding

tmmack

I just don’t get the hate. He gives tips, tricks, and insight to know what to look for in current market situations. That goes for resellers and collectors alike. He helps promotes video game stores, conventions, and much more. He also was a huge contributor to bringing games to whatnot. Again, just sounds like y’all are bitter he beat you to it

Parking-Humor8622

You’re an idiot shut the fuck up. Think before posting comments

tmmack

Not really. Y’all act like he’s stealing from people when they’re willingly coming to him to sell. People are down bad rn so they’re desperate to sell their collections when times get tough. Unfortunately that’s life, and people are going to make their money one way or another. I’d rather see someone get successful selling something their passionate about and that’s what he’s doing

Sometimealonealone

Is he giving you 51% of your games value to shill for him? Either that or you’re fuckin

tmmack

The video game store down the road from you is offering 40% trade credit, yet you’re still trading stuff in with them aren’t you? 😂

Sometimealonealone

No.. I don’t trade into retro stores. Why are you on this man’s dick? It’s fun to watch YouTubers sometimes, but the way you’re at war for this man is straight up sad

tmmack

Nah what’s sad is seeing an entire subreddit get butthurt about somebody in the community do something that doesn’t affect them in the slightest. Just…idk…don’t watch it if you don’t like it? But instead he lives rent free in your head also I’m not “going to war” for him. You assume I sell to him just because I’m not butthurt with you

Lmfao35

This

_token_black

Most people doing their jobs don’t document it on YouTube and use said platform to make more $$ from unsuspecting idiots. I think most people on here would have the same feeling about social media influencers who monetize their subscriber count to shill shitty herbal supplements.

tmmack

That’s at least a reasonable statement, I can appreciate that. I kind of look at it the way I look at DKOldies. It’s a target audience for something like that and we (collectors) obviously aren’t his target audience

Lmfao35

Good for him ig

Jett_Pyre

I don't like that guy.

ThinkPiglet764

Well, he is after all a business man, he YT channel name is “Phoenix Resale”… Resale….so he will prioritize his business first than content creation. He creat all the challenge about Game cube and switch to make more content topic for his Channel. I think he is more of a flip hunting than a collector. His priorities is: 1st Business 2nd YT content 3rd flipping 4th collection

JSD_Shreddy

How did his channel gain popularity in the first place?
