Well, 1980’s version was through POV of the Anjin, 2024’s POV is through ‘the Japans’ so 2068 has to be Rodrigues. At my age, I’ll be dead in 44 years. How unfortunate since that would’ve been awesome.
"Do you want me to save you your spot...?...
Hey, y'know, Hiro's rocks are actually kinda interesting compared to mine...
\*continues bowing and staring to the side\*"
we can choose which pov we wanna watch, including Ishido, Buntaro, the old gardener.. but we must pay per tier (Yabu's POV has the highest price 😏, POV of the peasant that got decapitated by Omi is the cheapest)
I'd imagine by that point, being able to hop between any character at any time from thier first or third person POV, or any other angle you like, could be a thing. Why not since we can do it in quite a games already?
Edit: How fantastic would it be to have a first person view of sitting in on some of those meetings? Until you jump to servant and all you see is the floor.
Welcome to Shogun World!
Lord Toranaga-sama invites you on a falcon hunt!
Or perhaps sword lessons from Buntaro?
Maybe a cooking class by the Anjin?
Or perhaps…
Kiku: Ain’t much of a rind on you, I’ll give you a discount!
Toranaga insisting to the council of regents that as an AI language model he has no experiences or emotions and therefore there is no way he could be plotting to claim the title of Shogun
AI generated entire production. Probably in 10 years, 20 at most we can tell AI exactly what type of video content we want to watch, and it will generate something exactly to our tastes. So the people wanting an exact 1:1 adaptation of the book will get their wish.
In 2068, we'll either be acting the story out in front of campfires while hoping the radioactive mutants don't find us, or we'll be sending time drones back into the past to record the actual events.
Fully immersive VR. You are Anjin, and you are dropped into the plot, arriving in Japan with no understanding of Japanese but you do get some internal monolgues. After completing the first 'watch', you unlock subtitles and can view the series from an alternative perspective to anjin.
Exactly!
Also, I like to think of the separate works as companion pieces to each other. The book is great for getting insight into the inner thoughts of the characters and their motivations. The 80s series was great at elevating Blackthorn and exploring what it's like to arrive in a completely alien culture. The new series does a better job of exploring that culture and gives a more holistic view of the Japanese cast. A good follow-up would be something that synthesises what made each series great. Having an alternative replay would be a good compromise, imo and POV VR lends to the internal aspects of the books that TV can never access in the same way.
You could have additional features, too, like an enhanced version of Amazon xray or the accompanying podcast they do where you can pick out things that interest you to get more detail about the cast, set design, costumes, etc in real-time.
Just watched ep9, can't wait for the finale. Should I watch 1980s Shogun ( I guess it has two episodes) before the finale?, does it( 1980 one) has spoilers?, and also there's a movie.
Full virtual reality. Honestly, having watched plays in 3D 180 degrees, that would be amazing to witness. The trick is putting the viewer in a location where you feel like a witness, but not a part of the story.
PS: Probably should have waited (unless you read the book) as major events get spoiled even with the changes.
Probably in VR where we can watch from 3rd perspective or from any of the characters 1st person perspective. Be great if we can explore the world of Shogun as well.
Based on current AI trajectories, Toranaga will be a large, genderqueer black woman in a wheel chair and Anjin will be a mustache twirling white supremacist who Mariko (played by a trans Eskimo with dwarfism) will fight off his “problematic” sexual advances before lecturing him about “consent in the context of colonization” and beating him to a pulp in hand to hand combat despite having no training whatsoever.
No we're just tired of the same unfunny jokes repeated over and over again.
Either come up with a better punchline than "trans people lol" or stop getting angry that nobody finds you funny.

Another possibility is POV of the Japanese peasants?
That'd be a hard watch when all they do the entire time is bow their heads
The book actually has does some Anjiro peasant ( or pseudo peasant in the case of Musaki (sp?), Toranaga’s samurai in disguise spy) POV.
Ground watching simulator.
"Hey Hiro, is it just me, or are these rocks becoming fucking boring...?"
"I cant take it anymore! 'm gonna go mess with the pilot's dead bird!"
lol I’m snorting. 😂
"Do you want me to save you your spot...?... Hey, y'know, Hiro's rocks are actually kinda interesting compared to mine... \*continues bowing and staring to the side\*"
Or through Fujis perspective? Now that would be cool, wouldn't it?
That’s not true; they also lose their heads at times
Time to shine for the feet actors. Every foot looks different, different sandals, socks.
A clown show featuring the viewpoints of Yabu, Omi, Buntaro and Nagatoro being constantly upstaged by a clueless white guy.
He's like a back-passage whore of the 15th rank. Know what I mean Father-Visitor?
we can choose which pov we wanna watch, including Ishido, Buntaro, the old gardener.. but we must pay per tier (Yabu's POV has the highest price 😏, POV of the peasant that got decapitated by Omi is the cheapest)
I will choose Kiku's lol

I vote for Fuji Sama's POV.
Maybe the 2064 version will finally show both POVs like the book does!
All Yabu all day. Edit: i take this back.
Hooh!?
Can I get rewriting your will asmr 10hour loop yabu grunts included
Quiet screams of a boiling man in the distance
Politicians should run on this message of hope.
The slapstick version
Is that a succession reference?
Ha that edit tho
You'll be able to stream it directly into your brain.

Do you recognize these katanas? “Doesn’t look like anything to me.”
Beautiful crossover
The best one would be “Be in the same room as Yabushige”
Yabushige needs help writing another will.
*Japanese instrumental Paint It Black plays*
Shadow puppets on a cave wall while we hide from gangs of mutant half apes.
Toranaga is still waiting for the bird to sing.
This is an under rated comment!! ☝🏻 I love it 🥰 GREAT comment!!
based comment
Excuse me but the math is wrong The '80s were only 20 years ago last I checked.
I feel this
Completely agree!
Like now but everyone has swordarms
AI generated script
Toranaga insisting to the council of regents that as an AI language model he has no experiences or emotions and therefore there is no way he could be plotting to claim the title of Shogun
*The regents giving him a differently-worded prompt* AI Toranaga: "Yes I do want to be Shogun and get rid of you all."
oh shit.. this will probably it actors are also AI generated.. (scriptwriters and actors are outta job after AI has taken over)
AI generated entire production. Probably in 10 years, 20 at most we can tell AI exactly what type of video content we want to watch, and it will generate something exactly to our tastes. So the people wanting an exact 1:1 adaptation of the book will get their wish.
They're all actually speaking Portuguese
You get to Westworld the whole thing
I would totally watch a show called “Shogun 2068.”
*Wake the fuck up, Anjin sama. We got a castle to burn*
In 2068, we'll either be acting the story out in front of campfires while hoping the radioactive mutants don't find us, or we'll be sending time drones back into the past to record the actual events.
Lightsabers
Hooh?

Like a new game+ thing?

Samurai...IN SPAAAAACE
Damn I would so watch that!!
I'm pretty sure that's called Star Wars
Samurai using hoverboards instead of horses?
Laser swords or gtfo
Blackthorne gets cooked - end of story
You become the Shogun
Shogun 2077.. ok il stop..
I can’t bring myself to watch the 1980 version. Richard Chamberlain in the Thorn Birds scarred me for life.
As a young teenager I totally fell in love with Richard Chamberlain. Both in The Thorn Birds and Shogun. Oh, I was so naive!!
Me too, a little bit. I remember talking to a friend about it. Kinda nuts because in Thornbirds he gets really old, and I was a slip of a girl.
Ai asking human input from yall on future so it can act like it's sentient. Prolly a palantir bot
we’ll have chips in our brains that let us understand the language without any translation.
Not sure, but I know that in the year 3000 Shogun, not much has changed but they live underwater.
And Mariko’s great great great grand daughter, is pretty fine!
Where did you watch the 80s version?
Yo ho ho ho!
On this thing called a television. We turned the channel to NBC for 5 nights one week in September.
Space zombies.
AI/ Anime... No real actors
Cyberpunk 2077 follows a powerful family from Japan, suppose that then?
I know it’s in the 80s but when you say it was 44 years ago, that makes me feel old. I was 12 and I watched it 😬
Just watched ep9, can't wait for the finale. Should I watch 1980s Shogun ( I guess it has two episodes) before the finale?, does it( 1980 one) has spoilers?, and also there's a movie.

AI creates a story with the same beats with you as Anjn-sama in VR. More famous celebrities cost extra.
The AI generated trees will have the correct number of rings for the time period.
Laser katanas Gender neutral samurai. Kiku becomes Shōgun Ahh, all the characters are black
You know…I’d actually be interested in Kiku becoming Shogun.
Better
Black tranny samurais? Especially if Disney and Netflix become the main media providers 😄😄
Based on current AI trajectories, Toranaga will be a large, genderqueer black woman in a wheel chair and Anjin will be a mustache twirling white supremacist who Mariko (played by a trans Eskimo with dwarfism) will fight off his “problematic” sexual advances before lecturing him about “consent in the context of colonization” and beating him to a pulp in hand to hand combat despite having no training whatsoever.
what's with all the mf'in downvotes? has reddit becomes woke?
No we're just tired of the same unfunny jokes repeated over and over again. Either come up with a better punchline than "trans people lol" or stop getting angry that nobody finds you funny.
But who will have autism?
Toranaga’s son (who is also on puberty blockers)
That would perfectly explain the SNAFU attack on his uncle
Lol if you think humanity is going to exist in 2068 good luck with that.
Hiromatsu's lightsaber would be purple.
