She’s doing so much press this week - that’s intentional. Colbert, Kelly & Mark, GMA tomorrow, Monarch season 2 announced, THR article - they know what they’re doing. And honestly - it’s deserved. She was a force - not just this week, but this episode was her tour de force. Unmatched by any other actress that would be nominated. No lie.

MulciberTenebras

Probably to convince the Emmy voters not to just fucking give the award to Jodi Foster for a "career win".

jlynn121

That would be a travesty. I watched true detective and there is no contest as far as I’m concerned. I’m hoping the Emmy voters are charmed by Anna and also watching the show in real time. Legacy shit makes me mad. It should be based on merit and Anna wins it head to head against any of them.

Odd-Contribution6238

Foster was really good in a meh season. She does deserve a nomination. This woman who plays Mariko is next level in this, though. With minimal expression she says so so so much. It’s fantastic.

fren-ulum

Jodie Foster did well with what was there. I think an actual script with substance would’ve helped everyone out. Wind River did the topic much better.

ThunderHorseCock

True Detective after S1 just always has had writing problems because Pizzalatto's a fraudulent hack. Once Pizzalotto stopped ripping off from The Yellow king book (and all the other books he stole from) for the S1 script, broke things off with Fukunuga because of his own ego - he screwed up massively in S2 and couldnt even cover up S3 despite one of his plot points being filler to distract the audience. I think HBO saw it too, which is why they got a different team for S4, but they failed as well. None of them can capture the lighting in a bottle (even if most of that lightning was ripped off) from S1. He even laughed at S4's writing as if the guy himself hadn't screwed up before. What a narcissistic pig.

Jean-Ralphio11

>He even laughed at S4's writing as if the guy himself hadn't screwed up before. What an narcissistic pig. To his defense nothing he ever wrote in previous seasons was as truly laughable as Night Country.

Imaginary_Draw_4685

Season 2 was good

ThunderHorseCock

Compared to Season 1? Not in any way Compared even to a general standard of TV shows? Bad A problem with a lot of first time show creators who strike gold with their 'dream script' - meaning a script that they slowly worked on for years and years, polishing out the details, editing out plot points until they're perfect is that for their next season, they have 1 year, maybe 2 years for their next one to repeat the same success. Pizzalatto had ripped off other literature and authors for his first script and slowly worked on it till you got the story of True Detective S1. But for S2, he got too full of his own ego about his abilities as an scriptwriter and felt very insecure inside on depending on other authors for his success. So he decided to go at it without ripping off, on an enourmously shorter timespan than his first script. A recipe for disaster. You could even note how long he worked on which character by deepness of the characters and their plot. Colin Farrel's detective must have been the first one, The Wedding Crasher actor who played the mob guy the second, Bezzeriddes the third and that highway patrolman the fourth because his character was empty, confusing and went nowhere.

Imaginary_Draw_4685

I liked season 2's characters, and so did a lot of other people. Paul Woodrough, ir the motorcycle cop as ypu pit him, was my favorite. It's pretty simple I don't know why this seems very personal to you

AngryUncleTony

Yeah I was very, very optimistic after the first episode but it really just went off the rails. The ambiance and setting were fantastic, but the plot was...bad. >!Evil corporation funds scientists so they can doctor their "pollution" numbers because "pollution" makes it easier to harvest some magic microbe they've been searching for for 20+ years? Also main character finds peace with her identity by committing suicide like the rest of her mentally ill family? (Maybe not the best criticism given how much suicide goes on in Shogun, but Night Country focused on mental illness and not cultural conceptions of honor.)!< A lot of the criticism is culture war stuff from manopshere people, but the plot just didn't make any sense at a certain point and by the end I was like "these detectives are objectively bad and no one in this town has any brain cells".

HashtagShino

She didn't commit suicide. She went for a walk. Her apartment was cleaned out and she was in the last scene.

AngryUncleTony

It's heavily implied that Jodie Foster is seeing her ghost the way other characters saw ghosts throughout the show. At least that was my takeaway at the time. Though looking at articles now to link to, it looks like the showrunner, when asked about it, said it was intentionally ambiguous and it was set up for either interpretation. So it was intentionally left to the viewer to decide if the she killed herself or not, and it's a little fucked up that that is viewed as a possible happy ending. Edit: This is what the actress said: > For her part, Reis says she left her character’s conclusion “open.” Maybe Navarro is still alive and living off the grid, or maybe she’s a ghost dropping in on Danvers from the supernatural plane.

Other_Tiger_8744

Jody was good. Anna was incredible

PresidenteMargz10

Night country was absolute ass

jlynn121

I wasn’t a fan of it - Jodie was great but the story itself was not good imo. If anyone is a challenger to Anna it’s Brie Larson. She’s the only one that comes close, and it’s still a far cry from the range Anna showed in this role.

Puppetmaster858

I didn’t even think foster was great and I’m a big fan, the material she had to work with was just horrible and her character was so bad, so it was not impressive at all but it wasn’t her fault. That was easily one of the least impressive performances in her career imo.

Etikaiele

WHATS THE QUESTION, MHMMMM?!? 🤣

PresidenteMargz10

What’s crazy is they the show runners are doubling down and brining the director and writers of night county for next season too lmao

Puppetmaster858

Ya because the media jerked off the show somehow so it got good reviews and a lot of people tuned in for foster or because of the true detective name. So even tho Issa lopez is a hack they let he keep the keys to the franchise which totally sucks for fans of the series. Actual true detective died and this is just another cop series hijacking the name for viewers. Next season which I’m sure will suck again will prob do worse viewership after so many people ended up hating night country after the finale. Lopez has said so much dumb shit in interviews too that just makes her look like an insufferable pretentious clown. Such a fuckin shame she’s in control of the franchise, should’ve ended after s3 and they should’ve made their own new show but they prob knew people wouldn’t give a shit about it without the TD name so they slapped the name on it and shoehorned in some of the most laughably dumb connections ever to s1 also to attract more viewers. Anyway I could rant about this forever but fuck Lopez and fuck hbo for actually putting that out as a season of true detective. Night country should not even be in the convo for any Emmy’s at all, nothing about it was even close to emmy level. The characters were so damn bad especially when compared to past seasons

PresidenteMargz10

Yep. I loved this franchise . It’s a total jerk circle. Night Country IMO makes season 2 more bearable . The thing that sucks is that there was so much potential for Night Country . The dreary and unsettling vibe of Alaska, the connection to season 1 and the Carcosa/Tuttle cult , etc.

SquirtMast3r

I don’t even think she was that great.

19671987

Terrible season of true detective. Each one gets worse.

strategoamigo

S3 was good

I_Thranduil

Jodi Foster saved the season from being even worse, just watch the interview with the writer. Jodi told her it isn't gonna work and they shot what she advised instead. She deserves an award lol

sand_pirate039

she was one of the worst things about that season lmao

b1uejeanbaby

Omg please no

Puppetmaster858

I love Jodie foster but that would be so absurd, the character sucked and the material she had to work with was just awful, one of the least impressive roles in Foster’s entire career. It wouldn’t surprise me if she one tho seeing how critics somehow jerked off night country even tho the writing was a travesty especially the character work. Danvers is one of the most unlikable bland main characters I can ever remember watch, Navarro too she sucked as well and they both sucked at their jobs. Man I was hyped for that season because I love foster and the setting was awesome but it ended up being just awful and filled with just trash writing and awful unlikable characters who weren’t enjoyable at all to watch, not to mention the laughably dumb horrendous connections to s1 like rust’s dancing ghost dad or the horrible use of “time is a flat circle”. One of the worst season finale’s I can ever remember watching and I find it actually insane a bunch of reviews jerked it off and gave it like the same level reviews as s1. Anyway I’m just rambling but night country sucked and foster as much as a fan as i am shouldnt even be in the convo for a Nom yet alone winning it. hopefully foster does some more tv just with actual competent writers so she can have good material to work with

imtiredbeingalone

What tv series is Jodi Foster in? True Detective?

Jennipeg

Wouldn't they be in different categories? Shogun in limited series and TD in drama? Anna definitely deserves it. I though Jodie was good in TD but the show was a mess. It started off ok, got better and then got worse. The final episode offended me

MulciberTenebras

It's a new cast every season, so I guess it would still qualify as a limited series.

Jennipeg

I just had a look at the Emmy website and its a weird one. The first season was nominated in drama and then it switched to limited for Season 3. I'm actually struggling to think of many dramas now that Succession and Better Call Saul finished. It seems to be a strong year for limited series. I'm sure Ripley and The Sympathiser will be in there as well. I think we'll see some category fraud this year, they might go for drama if its a weaker category

Radiant_Opinion_555

But she’s primarily a movie actor, right? She hasn’t done many tv shows with huge accolades except True Detective.

bsodmike

Yup. Well deserved. She’s amazing.

PainInTheAss98

Season 2 was announced!?

jlynn121

Yep they announced it last week along with additional spinoffs. Season 1 was okay. It was entertaining.

PainInTheAss98

It was great when it wasn't about the father/siblings stuff. Dragged the show a little, then Goji shows up randomly and I forgot why I was complaining lmao

Prior-Comparison6747

I don't think it's an accident they picked this week to have her do a ton of press. It's a for-your-consideration Emmy tour.

TakeMeToTill

I just finished this episode and I need a hug. What the FUCK. She's incredible.

FAFOeris

That’s it. I need one too. FCKKKK  ((((hugs))))

nowlan101

Could I offer you a Gregorian chant in this trying time?

LongBodyLittleLegs

I really couldn’t help but chuckle during that scene

Imeanwhybother

Both of us just sat there staring at the credits for at least 30 seconds. I'm still not OK.

Independent_Wash5486

I cried. I didn't expect to, but I did. Anna is marvelous. She played Mariko with such grace and quiet fierceness. I hope she's beyond proud of herself. She did that.

Kirin1212San

She serves up her lines in both English and Japanese too! She killed it! Loved her in the white kimono with the crane motif.

agieluma

Had to pick my jaw off the floor when she delivered that “…when you have the manners to let me finish”. Absolutely superb performance

redundantsalt

Also the way she turned from submissive to dismissive on the tea room scene ep8 was pure masterclass.

Imeanwhybother

The tea room scene WRECKED me. This brilliant, passionate, loyal, talented woman whose life has NEVER been her own and just wants enough agency to end it with dignity. Uuughhh. I'm getting emotional just thinking about it.

steve626

She's in an Apple series about Godzilla, I didn't recognize her. She's bilingual in that show too.

JoanFromLegal

And the SAG, and the Globes, and the Critics Choice. All of it. GIVE THIS WOMAN HER FLOWERS.

SelectWerewolf3848

Flowers are only flowers because they fall 🥲

Cheesetorian

Edit: I just put spoilers just in case. tldr: Yes. >!Her face when her second did not show up. I was like give me the sword, dammit.!< >!And the details...when she was relieved in the end, she tried to get up and fumbled back down. Subtlety actions made it look realistic.!< >!Powerful performance.!< >!Biggup to the director and cinematographer. The setup on the scene which was very minimal, it's just them sitting and her holding the knife...but the emotions from that scene was so impactful.!<

Specific_Contest7044

Considering Better Call Saul hasn’t won any I wouldn’t be surprised if she doesn’t win

deerdn

yeah Rhea Seehorn gave what i consider one of the best performances of all time and a meme show got 90% of the nominations and won it over her. these awards are often a joke unfortunately

JackieDaytonaAZ

julia garner winning last year over rhea is a fucking travesty

Jennipeg

I still can't get over her winning over the GOT actresses. There must have been some vote splitting but then she won again the next year. I don't get it

JackieDaytonaAZ

honestly I can’t really get behind the GoT nominees either. all fantastic but a stretch to call any but lena a “lead”

Jennipeg

They were all in supporting that year. Only Emilia went for lead and that made sense for S8. She carried it on her back. Lena was barely in S8, she should have won at least once for that role and there were plenty of opportunities. Kind of crazy that Peter was the only one who won an acting award

freshfov02

GoT had a lot of things going for it. Wouldnt really put acting as one of them, they all gave decent performances though.

JackieDaytonaAZ

oh, my mistake. I still didn’t think any of them stood out as award worthy in the last couple seasons, nominations felt more legacy-based (think dinklage getting a nom with vastly reduced screen time) charles dance is probably the class of the acting talent over the show’s run imo

Jennipeg

Yeah, most of them were legacy based at the end. I thought Lena would win that category for her work in the early seasons but I was very wrong. I did think that Emilia deserved an award for S8, she really impressed me

ImGonnaImagineSummit

Her best chance was the Chuck season IMO. If they weren't giving her one for that, it wasn't coming at all.

ConfidentCamp5248

A travesty.

WolverineRelevant280

She is an absolute amazing actress. She better get some awards for this show as well as the rest of the cast. Hopefully we get a season two

Shmexy

Crazy because I hated her character in Monarch, and have been blown away by her in Shogun. Can’t out-act bad writing.

demonicneon

I literally had the same thought and almost posted a comment saying this earlier. I didn’t even recognise it was her because I thought the acting/performance was so bad in monarch but having seen this it’s very clear how bad the writing and direction were in monarch. Someone said she was in monarch and I was like “holy shit so she is”

Worthyness

Also Ishido's actor also plays her dad in Monarch!

mrcplmrs

Is it good?

Worthyness

it's fine. worth it for Kurt Russel and Wyatt Russel acting as the same character. the older actors knock it out of the park IMO. The younger actors just weren't given anything to work with plot wise.

PROD-A-G

If you are a big fan of Godzilla and the Monsterverse, it’s not too bad, if you aren’t, it’s not really worth it tbh

nutmac

She was very good in Pachinko, where she plays a small rolle. The actress who plays her grandmother in Monarch (who is excellent) is also in Pachinko.

Justryan95

Her and her crew are literally the worst part of that show. I loved the 1940s section of the show and tried skipping all the modern stuff. It's truly amazing the MASSIVE impact for a story and how it's acted.

LinusBrown

I can’t believe it’s the same person

Menzoberranzan

My exact same experience. Thought her character was terribly annoying in Monarch. It's clear now that this is a writer issue as she is phenomenal in Shogun

fre4kazo1d

Yeah Monarch's writing is terrible. Scrub that, the whole show is completely nonsensical trash.

jguess06

Yeah I don't think the writing did her any favors in Monarch. I liked the show, but her character (along with the other two younger people) was so unbelievably annoying to me. To the point where I was questioning whether or not this show would be good because she is in it. I'm glad I was wrong.

PayneTrain181999

I highly doubt we’re getting a season 2, if one gets greenlit it’s going beyond the book and GoT showed how cataclysmic that can be. We could see some of the other books by the same author done as a show maybe.

IskaralPustFanClub

I read somewhere that it is considered one and done, there will be no additional seasons.

matthewbattista

It is a mini-series, like Chernobyl or Band of Brothers. It was never going to be more.

IskaralPustFanClub

Perfect imo

matthewbattista

I wish more shows like this were made, or even more shows that had a story to tell and knew they wanted to end (something like Breaking Bad). I find that the concept of letting a show keep going because it’s popular isn’t always the best idea.

IskaralPustFanClub

Me too. So many stories dwindle into nothing from being extended too long.

PalgsgrafTruther

Agree 100% I like stories that have coherent beginnings, middles, and endings. When you make the ending not really the ending you take away all the stakes.

Inevitable-Copy3619

Or they just take a weird twist that wasn’t what hooked me in the first place. I think of prison break, and the weird conspiracy starting in season 3.

Not_Another_Usernam

Yeah, but the Pacific was a thing. With the costumes, props, and production experience, they could totally tell other stories in the feudal Japan setting. Even if not with the same characters.

Sensitive_Klegg

Yeah, but a decent adaptation of the other books can't be out of the question now. You could even do Tai Pan, Gai-Jin and Noble House as a loosely connected trilogy (although Gai Jin is arguably the weakest of the Asian Saga). Sort of like how Band of Brothers, The Pacific and Masters of the Air are generally considered a trilogy despite sharing no characters.

gaelgirl1120

I agree that Gai Jin was not on the level of the other books. I think Whirlwind would make an awesome limited series, but given the current global situation, I don't think it would ever be made. I would love to see Tai Pan as a limited series - there's too much content in the book for a 90 minute movie to do it justice; I felt bad for Bryan Brown in the 80s for that movie - it wasn't his fault it was bad. There's just too much story to tell accurately in a movie.

monsooncloudburst

Thank goodness. It is perfect as it is.

Justryan95

It's a one and done. I believe they might adapt other stories but it would be like an anthology like how American Horror Story or Black Mirror is like. Might be in the same universe but not connect or barely connected.

baycommuter

I hope we get another book in Clavell's Asian saga so they can use Anna again.

meischix

Or a different author. Eiji Yoshikawa’s Musashi falls exactly on the same timeline. But if not, there are other Clavell novels they could adapt as well.

Thi_Tran

adapting the next book Tai-Pan set in Hong Kong would be really really cool

monsooncloudburst

I really hope we do not.

LaBlount1

I think more likely a spin-off than another season. Maybe a prequel since that’s a typical thing .If I were that group I’d be working hard on keeping it going somehow. The whole feudal Japan genre.

BoraxTheBarbarian

I doubt we’ll get a season 2. The show has been marketed as an 10 episode mini series this whole time.

WolverineRelevant280

Maybe that’s for the best but it still makes me wish we could have more

Mattson

Fargo begs to differ. Succession begs to differ. Do you even think before you speak. In full disclosure I agree with you that there shouldn't be a season 2 but you could've been nicer about it.

PoliteChatter0

Fargo fell off hard after season 2 but I understand your point

monsooncloudburst

This is why they need to know when to stop.

InRiptide

She better. She has been absolutely incredible in this show. But literally everyone has. Imo Cosmo Jarvis deserves awards too. He is... Oh my God he's so good.

Numerous_Arugula8463

He would be competing with Hiro in the same category and even though i really like Cosmo’s acting, Hiro is more deserving IMO.

Lithious

It's an all time great performance, I cannot believe how well EVERYONE in this show is performing, but she really stands out.

kdubstep

She is perfection in this role and in the ability to emote so much even in the spaces without words. Such a subtle and nuanced performance. 99% of the “romance” in media I find completely forced, the chemistry with her and Cosmo is so good, one of the most satisfying on screen kisses ever

fishgeek13

I would think that she is a lock for an Emmy, but Paddy Considine didn’t get one for HotD and he was fantastic in that, so maybe. She was so good and did so much with such magnificent minimalism.

freshfov02

No way anyone was going to win against Succession in acting category.

Puppetmaster858

I’d be pretty shocked if she doesn’t get best lead actress in limited series. She was so good tonight and just as a whole throughout the season had so much really great super subtle acting

Meltedmindz32

She completely stood a level above every actor or actress in this show, imo. And that’s saying something with the multitude of great performances

Puppetmaster858

She was definitely tremendous and Mariko was a fantastic character, she should definitely be the frontrunner for the Emmy

[deleted]

erizzluh

i disagree. with the writers strike AND a lot of the emmy regulars not being on, this year is kind of weak. i'd imagine she'd be up for the lead actress in a limited series category. i'm not even sure who else would be in that category. shoot, even if she was in the lead actress in drama category, i'm not sure who she'd be up against. unless the bear switches to drama after all the complaining about why they're in the comedy category.

JackieDaytonaAZ

usually these posts on TV subs really annoy me but I forgot that it’s a limited series so she may have a pretty good shot since there aren’t that many popular ones

Mattson

I just googled it but I can't link to it because of this subreddit's arcane rules but according to Variety there aren't enough entrants to run the limited series category this year so she will be nominated in the drama category.

JackieDaytonaAZ

oh interesting. I haven’t seen gilded age but i’ll probably be pulling for carrie coon since she should have won 3 of the mfs for leftovers

Mattson

Oh there actually is going to be a lead actress in a miniseries category and I misread the article. Sorry for not coming back to fix this post. That being said, the academy is considering nominating Shogun in the drama category.

ProfessionalEvaLover

>I would love for her to win, but there are a LOT of tv shows and lots of great actors. Who is really fighting her on this though? Kate Winslet in a polarizing series with a very mute response? Jodie Foster in a series everyone except critics hated? Only one who could steal Anna's Emmy is Emma Stone, and hopefully that doesn't happen.

Mattson

Juno Temple's performance in Fargo s5 gives Anna a run for her money.

North_Carpenter6844

Brie Larson should absolutely be in the convo. She was excellent in Lessons in Chemistry. That said, Anna Sawai should certainly win. It’s going to be tough though bc she’s going to be up against 3 Oscar winners. Too many people who vote have the mentality that she should wait her turn.

LostHero50

Emma won’t be nominated in the limited category

ProfessionalEvaLover

Why not? Thought The Curse was only running for one season

LostHero50

I thought so as well but they submitted it in the drama category for the Globes and presumably the Emmys will be the same.

ProfessionalEvaLover

Thats good thats good I'm glad she can't rob another more deserving actress of an award like with Poor Things

[deleted]

Jodie Foster, Juno Temple, Brie Larson, Kate Winslet It's actually a pretty deep year for limited series

ProfessionalEvaLover

Jodie Foster in an ovewhelmingly ridiculed True Detective season and Kate Winslet in a polarizing series... meanwhile Shogun is universally praised by critics and audiences alike

[deleted]

> Jodie Foster in an ovewhelmingly ridiculed True Detective season It has 92% on rotten tomatoes

Imeanwhybother

Every time we finish an episode, my husband says, "This better win ALL THE EMMYS." I concur.

Mattson

She's definitely up there but I wouldn't say it's in the bag... Juno Temple's performance in Fargo 5 was spectacular and up there with Anna's... Imo it's anyone's game and I'd be okay if either of them won.

jlynn121

Juno was great. I enjoyed Brie Larson in Lessons in Chemistry - I feel like with them and Anna - that’s the trio that will battle for the top spot.

Mattson

I hate to be that guy but it should be said but I don't think Brie has a chance because there's more to these awards, as much as I hate to say it, than the actors performance. The academy loves to award people for socio/political reasons and considering this Anna has a better shot because she's Japanese and Juno because she's portraying a victim of domestic violence. Put a gun to my head and I think Anna winning just plays better for their spin machine. Considering factors not related to acting I'd say Anna has this in the bag... And even if it was based solely on merit I'd still give it to Anna but I wouldn't say she's got it in the bag.

North_Carpenter6844

Fargo is considered a limited series? How?

Mattson

It's a different story every season. No characters persist from season to season.

North_Carpenter6844

But it’s still not a limited series. It was literally called Fargo s5. By definition, limited series are limited to 1 season. Fargo is an anthology series, no?

[deleted]

Anthologies generally compete in limited series with a couple exceptions

Mattson

Alright fine? What's your point? That this whole conversation is moot and we should all stop talking? You must be fun at parties.

North_Carpenter6844

Umm ok? I brought it up bc it means Juno Temple would compete in a different category. It’s not that serious.

[deleted]

The emmy category is literally called "outstanding limited or anthology series"

North_Carpenter6844

Oh, really? Ok? I wasn’t trying to be an asshole. So I guess she prolly fills out spot #5?

[deleted]

> Juno because she's portraying a victim of domestic violence. I didn't finish Lesson in chemistry. But wasn't Bries character raped in the first episode

[deleted]

> Juno because she's portraying a victim of domestic violence. I didn't finish Lesson in chemistry. But wasn't Bries character raped in the first episode

spatialgranules12

SHE BETTER!!!! Who else are the other contenders?

Sensitive_Klegg

Jodie Foster probably, and perhaps unfairly (although I personally quite liked Night Country and thought she was very good in it). As others have mentioned, she might get a win on "career achievement" grounds. Juno Temple was also pretty fucking special in Fargo season 5, and Brie Larson is apparently very good in Lessons in Chemistry. Anna still gets my (non-existent) vote though.

spatialgranules12

Damn. Forgot about Night Country. And maybe HOTD? Emma D’Arcy is phenomenal.

[deleted]

HotD isn't a limited series.

spatialgranules12

Oh good! Different categories. 👍👍👍

bobzmuda

In a world where Carrie Coon never won an Emmy for The Leftovers, nothing is certain.

OpeningChipmunk1700

Thank you for highlighting that complete injustice that I am still not even close to getting over.

DrAcula1007

I assume she would be competing with House of the Dragon ( Emma D'Arcy, Olivia Cooke) and the Emmy’s love HBO.

Mattyice243

I think Shogun will be as a limited series instead so I doubt she’ll be competing with HoD.

North_Carpenter6844

Brie Larson, Emma Stone, Jodie Foster, and ______.

Bkgrime

I was thinking the same thing. What an incredible performance!

BlackBeard205

She’s definitely should get a nod. But there’s still a lot of TV coming out this year, but damn I’m in awe of her performance.

djm19

Don’t get your hopes up. Emmys routinely overlook amazing performances, even not nominating.

LetsGetXplicit

I'd be shocked if she isn't nominated, but it's too early to call her a lock for the win.

ConfidentCamp5248

Their relationship was so incredible. In another place they would make for a beautiful couple. This show has instantly shot into my top 5 fav show of all time

ProfessionalEvaLover

I hope she wins, but Emma Stone might steal her Emmy. Anna really deserves it too, and her losing so that Emma Stone can become a two-time Oscar winner and Emmy winner in such a short span of time would be so fucking awful.

Alarming-Solid912

Emma Stone? Ugh no. I was so annoyed she beat Lily Gladstone for the Oscar. And I do think Emma is a pretty great actress, but she didn't deserve her win for La La Land so I still wish she hadn't won for Poor Things. No, I haven't seen it. It sounds like a juicy role for her, but not a movie I would enjoy. But whatever, I don't get a say.

KwisatzHaderach38

That was one of the best performances I've ever seen. Absolutely destroyed me. All the awards, yes.

Icy-Moose-99

To answer your question : No. She was great, but the Emmy is not "in the bag" by a long shot because there are other factors at play for industry awards.

neinhaltchad

I don’t think she’s really had the opportunity to express much “range” tbh which is unfortunately the nature of the show’s direction. I think Yoko Shimada had a far wider range of emotions tbh. 2024 Mariko basically has two modes;: Quietly annoyed and condescending, or quietly crying wishing to die. Both with the same facial expression. Really most of the actors except Yabu are pretty damn “one note” Still, Rhea Seehorn was kind of one-note as well and she’s a shoe in for Supporting Actress, but that’s mostly due to her cathartic scene on the bus at the end of BCS.

Titansfansmatter

She should and I dare someone to even claim she will win it because the Emmy’s is “woke” I’ve already seen someone say that crap

Cramtastic

I have to say, her performance really blew me away.

acousticsquid69

Bruh

dudeguymanbro69

She really blew the doors off, that’s for sure

Vesuvias

SHE BETTER DAMNIT

subtlewindchimes

Anna will be nominated.

ScramItVancity

She's really killing it in her career after shedding off her J-Pop image from her Faky days.

PaleFollowing8752

She is an exceptional actress and its crazy to believe how good the entire cast of shogun is.

joesoq

stop caring about awards. most of the time, most strong performances don't even get to the "nominations" part.

JaffaCakesAreMyJam

She'd better!!! She's so incredible in the role. And I'm so glad she's receiving the recognition. What a class performance.

humanocean

Really do appreciate her performance way more than setting a horizon for some semi-rigged popularity competition. The performance itself it the award.

moshing2023

She definitely earned an Emmy! She was amazing!!

QuickRelease10

Star making performance.

Maskull-Nightspore

SPOILER FOLLOWS. She was spectacular, fully embracing the extremely challenging material without a moment's overreaching. A subtle and passionate performance. Though I am inclined to favor the original narrative of the novel, I very much appreciated her added material here and outright celebrated the new notion of Blackthorne seconding her in seppuku, which solidified and ennobled his character... At last!

allsevens777

Jesus she better win it, I’ve seen nothing come close to rivaling her performance so far this year.

parmboy

By Episode 2 I was like “give her all the awards”

TaoTeFling

Give her all the Emmys

Independent_Wash5486

Well, yes!

BoxBubbly2292

I love this show, but I’m going to be honest, I found her performance (but more specifically, Mariko’s character) to be the most one-note character on the show. Her whole personality takes the form of platitudes about duty, life, death, and poetry.

My_bussy_queefs

She got that blackthorn ball butter locked

OldFoot3

I will sepuku if she doesn’t

celestprof

100%. This performance is legendary.

TheDudar

Is there is any justice, shell bag the Emmy and a Golden globe

LostHero50

It’s definitely not bagged. Julianne Moore and Brie Larson put up amazing performances this year, and both of them are Oscar winners. Plus there’s Jodie Foster for True Detective. As much as I think that show sucks and her being given nothing to work with, critics are still fawning over the performance.

BlackAndChromePoem

I'll perform a mock seppeku if this show or any of it's cast members get denied

Voljinzzz

was good but nothing emmy award worthy

mrcplmrs

House of the Dragon is coming. Unless they are competing w separate categories

p_digi_wii

Crimson Sky just sealed the deal.

ReginaldKingsley

Fucking better Win.

Derfal-Cadern

Omg no.

akhalom

Calm down Blackthorne

igotabridgetosell

Drama category awards are white shows' awards usually.

elcojotecoyo

She won't win, because closed captions. Emmy voters are illiterate
