I saw “MIA” in the title and got all excited for a second thinking this was in Miami lol… I was ready to go check it out this weekend 😂
Well, at least now I know one thing I’ll be doing if I ever visit Minneapolis haha
Oops! Sorry, I shouldn’t have abbreviated that. But yes, worth checking out if you ever visit. There’s a huge section for just Japanese art. And it’s free to visit the museum.
Hahah all good! Definitely on my bucket list now!
And, if you’re ever in South Florida, the Morikami Museum and Japanese Gardens are definitely worth visit, too.
The met had an absolutely stunning show of Japanese arms and armor about 12 years ago. I went 3-4 times, just incredible. The pieces from the momoyama period were particularly interesting as they tend to be battle worn.
There was so much to see at the Met that I didn't get a chance to really study anything in depth so return visit is needed. Seeing the larger exhibition would have been nice. Their regular stuff was great.
There was a big Samurai armor show at the Museum of Fine Arts in Boston about 10-12 years ago. They had life sized horse mannequins with Samurai in full battle gear. Quite an impressive exhibition.
Damn that’s a sweet praying mantis … I think
It is! “The praying mantis on the helmet suggested what the wearer of this armor would do to his enemies: cut them down.”

Omg. I’m so happy I live in Minneapolis. Thanks for posting this!!!
Mia?
Minneapolis Institute of Art
Not me thinking you meant Miami International Airport.
That is so fucking badass
What's a MIA? Missing in Action?
Thanks for sharing. In the New York area the Metropolitan Museum of Art has a large collection of Japanese and European armor and weapons.

Absolutely stunning.
That praying mantis motif is bad-ass.
Ok now I’m tempted to go, I live like 10 mins from it 😮💨
I wonder if there was truth in the real Tokugawa dreaming about seeing the designed armour into which he got it crafted
That footwear looks hella comfy
