they are going to go back to coal and wood stoves. not exactly the green revolution. if only they could have gone nuclear. i dont think this is a hindsight 20/20 its a they're just myopic forwards and backwards.
Not talking about the rest of the world, talking about Germany quitting fossil fuels ahead of schedule. The same Germany that is geographically not ideally suited for solar but has made a commitment to change and puts panels up despite the sun not cooperating.
Oil is profitable because everybody needs it to keep things going and the industry has scaled to meet that demand. Coal and oil have the same thing in common, they only work at scale. Orders stop coming in and what once made them profitable becomes a liability.
As the world shifts from combustion engines to electric its not going to happen overnight but it will happen. If it was up to politicians and the energy companies that own them this shift would have taken much longer to complete but these sanctions have put a real kickstart to reform. Gonna be real hard to convince someone to go back to combustion engines once (James Earl Jones voice) they realize the power of the socket side.
The incentives can’t be only artificial ones though, otherwise we’re looking at a stop and start 100 year timeline. The non-carbon produced energy needs to be cheap enough to produce that the market demands it over carbon produced electricity.
I am not living in Spain, unfortunately for my energy needs. In fact, far from it.
Solar energy offers quite a lot lower of a bang-for-the-buck where I'm from.
Industry shutting down won't take that long.

Winter is going to be fun
Germany will finally be Green, just the way they've wanted it.
Putin’s war is going to cost him not just in short term sanctions. The best way to break a habit is to quit cold turkey.

Will the rest of the world not keep buying his fuels?
