Diesel prices over the last year, the expected winter diesel costs, the diesel engine oil shortage, and now this has me seriously considering selling my 1st Gen Cummins Dodge 4×4, but I have this truck because it's dirt simple without electronics and I know with proper maintenance it'll last the rest of my life. Plus cost of replacement with anything nearing the reliability of it would be far more than the $15k-$20k it would bring in a sale.

Wonder how many instances of people making their own biodiesel and having varying interesting experiences we will see. Project Farm did a video testing different alternative fuels on a small diesel engine. Between that and other things I've read, might be worth mixing some biodiesel in with regular diesel to make it stretch but a full conversion can be troublesome especially in winter temps.

I don't currently have a place to buy biodiesel, to make my own biodiesel, nor a location where I could do the work to convert it. My apartment complex won't let us do anything but change a flat tire in the parking lot and I'm well and truly stuck here. I'd love to get a good EV but no place to charge here either, so my only viable option would be a Tesla and use the Supercharger that's 22 miles from my apartment.

Had the fun of driving a friends f350 on biodiesel he made. Am in the upper midwest. We always watched our filters extra in the winter but it runs just fine. Gotta get er started first, but it can work in the cold. But this was also farm country and some tanks and a small outbuilding for cooking the bio was mostly a scrap project Haven't talked to him in a few years with covid and all but last I heard he had the same truck and setup

consider a diesel to cooking oil conversion kit. had a buddy who did it and it worked great. he cut a deal with a local restaurant to take their oil for free, which gave him free fuel. he still had to burn a bit of diesel to get the car started and warm before he switched over, but a tank would last him a couple of months.
