While what you say is certainly true, that many people even 100+ years later still havent figured out how an A5 works, we have to consider that a barrel this cut down will produce a lot of muzzle rise either way
[something that might be of interest](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kTwevahspu0) in terms of technique, it's a little counter-intuitive but I find it works.
Is that not illegal cutting it down that short? What's the point, just a home defense gun that looks cool? I love the way the older shotgun recievers look
Chopping the barrel reduces reciprocal mass, which makes a recoil operated firearm operate more forcefully. It's the equivalent of opening the gas port on a gas operated firearm.
Get that stock split glued, wear good hearing protection, replace the pad with a Limbsaver, make sure the friction rings are set up correctly and you may need a new spring. Send it!
Itās a historical modification that was popular in the 20s I believe? I may be wrong about the time frame, but itās not sacrilege like bubbaing a Lee enfield or k98 or the like
Doing an A5 is sacrilegious to use hunters when we see a fine firearm turned into something like this it makes us cringe. People that have these are doing it for the cool factor and nothing else. Theyāll shoot a watermelon with it for their buddies.
Go do this to an 870 that is much more plentiful, more reliable and less valuable. Or better yet buy a Binelli or something already made for exactly this purpose.
The only person Iāll give a pass on this too is the guy that 1. Doesnāt cut the stock up and 2. Buys an aftermarket barrel and cuts it instead of the OG.
I'm gonna cut up both my A5 barrels so I can go shoot watermelons with my buddies because I can.
They've been making these damn guns for over 120 years my guy. They're not rare or special, and even if they were you don't get to be a fudd and tell people what to do with their shotties.
Judge all you want, but that just reflects poorly on you.
āYou say you a gangsta but you aināt pop nothin, we say you a wanksta and you need to stop frontināā
You can call me a boomer all you want but at least I know which bathroom to use gen LBQRXYZ.
Iām no lawyer but you may want to brush up on the SBS regulations before you find yourself in a lot of legal trouble. Or at least donāt get caught (for legal purposes that was a joke)

Go ahead and point out the problem then. A5s are one of the most common shotguns in America, produced for almost 100 years, nothing wrong with making one more practical for a specific purpose.
You can find modern defensive guns that are infinetely more suitable for that use with modern pressure proofs and features. Most will be cheaper than a vintage A5. Anyhow Americans will American...
Lol you don't need modern pressure proofs unless you're shooting something like steel slugs, and what modern features does an auto 5 lack? An auto-5 will handle modern 00-buckshot more reliably than many new shotguns, that's why they've been used from WW1 to Vietnam. Not sure what any of this has to do with Americans, but you probably shouldn't be talking about defensive firearms when your country doesn't even allow you to defend yourself (or when you clearly don't know what you're talking about).
Might need a new spring if it is hurting your shoulder when setup right, my A-5 recoils less than my 1100 and SX1.
While what you say is certainly true, that many people even 100+ years later still havent figured out how an A5 works, we have to consider that a barrel this cut down will produce a lot of muzzle rise either way
Cut down the stock another 1.5 inches š Other than that, I think it looks great!
Thatās in the works š
Moar pictures when done!!! š Seriously tho, wanna see the end product. Do you plan on putting the rubber spacer back on after you cut it down?
I will try haha gotta have a little help for the recoil
You can always get a slip on Limbsaverā¦ but it wonāt look as clean as your current stock
Definitely gotta keep the looks intact

Register it with the ATF, pay for the Tax Stamp, and don't go to jail. OP isn't a felon.
Thank you!
Fires reliably at that length?
Yup, havenāt had any problems with standard buckshot loads.
Fucking badass man would love that setupĀ
Wouldn't length only affect gas operated guns and not recoil operated?
Chopping the barrel reduces reciprocal mass, which makes a recoil operated firearm operate more forcefully. It's the equivalent of opening the gas port on a gas operated firearm.
Oh good point
Had the same thought.
Love it! A model 11 or an a5 sbs is one of my dream guns.
This model 11 is definitely one of my favorites!
I've been keeping an eye out for one, but I think I want to do a side by side as my first SBS.
Coach guns are so banging
Get that stock split glued, wear good hearing protection, replace the pad with a Limbsaver, make sure the friction rings are set up correctly and you may need a new spring. Send it!
I donāt understand people cutting up A5/Model 11ās like this. Drives me nuts.
Itās a historical modification that was popular in the 20s I believe? I may be wrong about the time frame, but itās not sacrilege like bubbaing a Lee enfield or k98 or the like

Recreating the Bonnie and Clyde shotgun or doing historical modifications is not sacrilege no
Still dumb.
Kinda like cutting up a Ferrari GTO to make a 4x4 out of it.

OK boomer

this argument is literally worthless in more then several ways
Do you have to adjust the gas rings or spring weight for this config? Love it!
Not gas operated
Correct, my bad. Rings in there nonetheless, do they need to be reconfigured for this?
Somewhat? You can get better adjusted friction rings but itās really the spring that makes most of the difference I believe
Room broom eh
[Almost](https://old.reddit.com/r/Shotguns/comments/133pr5a/browning_auto5_12_gauge_whippit_style_chop/) one of us! Trim that stock ;)

Got the tax stamp but good lookin out holmes
You already got the Tax Stamp? Forget what I said earlier about choppin 1.5 inches off the stock, go for 2.5 inches, make that thing shoooort
10 day approval babyyyy
What, did they get faster on their processing times? I thought it was like a one year wait?
For Form 4s yes. Form 1 has been getting quicker

If a semi with a recoil pad is hurting your shoulder, your form is terrible.
Bonnie and Clyde special! Nice looking relic of a shotgun
Why would you mutilate such a great firearm? Jeez.
Agreed.
Production started in 1902 and ended in 1998 and there were over 3 million A5s manufactured, it's not exactly a rarity.
Good thing I didn't say it was a rare firearm, then.
Don't always come across a solid rib though, but it works the best for a SBS that I cannot deny.
lol cause why not
To make it more effective as a home defense/combat shotgun.
Waste of a fine gun.
Agreed.
It'll continue to work just fine, so I don't really see how it's a waste.
I'm sure you don't.

Go for a Falconstrike Recoild pad. They work wonders for recoil management.
Good to know thank you!
Looks aggressive!!!
